Balmir |

Somer, I'm fine with you keeping the dagger.
Splitting the sold gold makes sense to me, but then I also got all of the high-value stuff already. :-) I'm also not opposed to a communal pot of gold that we all use.
I would use my gold to buy an amulet of natural armor +1 and then a cloak of resistance. Tamaxander, can you make either, or both, of those? Would that be half price?

![]() |

It seems like we ought to take into account what everyone took. As the only small character, I’m much less likely to find items I can use. Eventually , I’ll be far behind on treasure (I’m already the lowest) if I don’t have extra to buy equipment I can use.
The items I’d like are:
Upgrade weapon to +1 2000 gp
Ring of protection +1 2000 gp
Crafted +1 cloak of resistance (cost?)
I probably can’t do all that, so I’ll just do it in the order I can afford.

Somer Hiondu |

Getting behind on the gear is a problem. It kind of depends if the GM is going to go with loot as written or drop things that are in your size.
Honestly given the name of the AP I would bet that there will be mostly loot no one can use at some point.
How would you propose a gold breakdown be handled? I have never been great at working that sort of system out.
I am not trying to be difficult by the way I do not know the way to balance things out. If there is time and Tam is willing to craft some things I would certainly toss some gold to you for more gear. Even crafting the quiver and a dex belt I would have I would have 600ish gp left on the even split.
We could also sell the dagger, its like 5k. I just worry that we will need it.

Balmir |

By Somer's calculation everyone would get 3550. If the Amulet of Natural Armor is 2000 and Tamaxander can craft the cloak for 500, then I'll gladly donate my left over 1000 to Mouser. So Mouser, you would then have 4550 which is enough for all the stuff you want. This all depends on Tamaxander being able to craft the cloaks for us.

Somer Hiondu |

and us having quite a few days to prepare.

Tamxander Glenfarrow |

Cloak of resistance +1 is 500 gp for me to craft, correct. Since I know the resistance cantrip, it's DC 10, which I can't fail. Takes me one day to make one.
Belt of incredible dexterity +2 costs 2,000 gp and 4 days to make. Since I don't know cat's grace it's Spellcraft DC 18, but I can take 10 on crafting it and succeed.
Efficient quiver is 900 gp and 2 days to make. Since I don't know secret chest it's Spellcraft DC 19, which I can also hit by taking 10.
I'm happy to make any and all items that people want, time permitting.
At level 5 I'll be picking up Craft Magic Arms and Armor as well. This will let us keep Mouser well equipped, among other things, by making custom small items.
Other gear you guys should consider:
Handy haversack: 1,000 gp, 2 days
Pearl of power (1st): 500 gp, 1 day
Cat burglar's boots: 1,000 gp, 2 days (these give +2 Acrobatics, Climb, and Stealth, and have a secret pocket for masterwork thieves' tools)
Traveler's any-tool: 125 gp, 1 day (counts as masterwork any tool you need)
Boots of striding and springing: 2,750 gp, 6 days. Imagine Balmir with a speed of 30!
Amulet of natural armor +1: 1,000 gp, 2 days.
~~~~~~~~~~
As for my own purchases outside of making stuff, I'd like to add more spells to my repertoire, of course. This always involves a check for availability, so here we go. >25 means available.
Scrolls of:
1st level (25 gp ea.):
Detect Secret Doors: 1d100 ⇒ 71
Grease: 1d100 ⇒ 80
Mage Armor: 1d100 ⇒ 82
Shield: 1d100 ⇒ 92
Unseen Servant: 1d100 ⇒ 44
2nd level (150 gp ea.):
Acid Arrow: 1d100 ⇒ 87
Disguise Other: 1d100 ⇒ 12
Locate Object: 1d100 ⇒ 50
Make Whole: 1d100 ⇒ 98
Mirror Image: 1d100 ⇒ 51
See Invisibility: 1d100 ⇒ 54
Web: 1d100 ⇒ 9
No disguise other or web, but everything else is available. Total cost would be 875 to purchase the available scrolls, and 250 to transcribe them all into my spellbook, or 1,125 gp, if the party is all right with that expense. At some future date I'll want to scribe some scrolls of my own, but it looks like our few days of downtime will be used to make wondrous items.
That crafting is going to be super useful. Actually, I'd like to change my main interest to a Belt of Incredible Dexterity. That helps me on attack, dmg, AC, and skills. If Tam could make me one, I would be thrilled.
As for typical loot distribution, here's how we're doing it in another campaign I'm in that seems fair:
1) All loot gets recorded (please don't steal and hide stuff from your party members)
2) Sell value of each loot item is entered.
3) If you want to claim a piece of loot, put your character's name next to it in the Claimant column (if there's already a name there, talk to the person in the discussion thread and work out a fair way to decide who gets it)
4) The value of all loot is assumed to be spread evenly between the party when we go to sell stuff.
5) If someone has claimed something, the value of that claimed item comes out of their share of the gold, and that value goes to the other players. In essence, the player that claimed the item gives everyone else their portion of its value.
6) The sheet automatically calculates the amount of gold each person will get once the unclaimed items are sold (based on the calculations in parts 4 and 5), and spits it out to the "gold pending" section of the page.
7) NOTE: If the Gold Pending amount for your character is negative, make sure you have enough normal liquid gold to compensate your allies for your "purchase"
Anyway, those that pick up more loot during the adventure end up with less gold coming their way when we distribute, but it all evens out.
Somer Hiondu |
If someone wants to maintain a formula I am fine with it. Once it is decided I will either buy stuff or not.
I am not convinced that basically punishing Balmir for getting good story driven gear is great for the party. The 9 CLW potions I will keep just because someone should.
If you want to ding me for the campfire stone that is fine I will still let everyone sit by the fire at night when it is cold. :)
*edit
Brinya's Love:
"The dagger is named Brinya's Love. It has been imbued with a portion of Rodrik's soul, fused with the tears of his beloved at the time of its quenching."
So the knife need to see it though to the end. I am not going murder hobo and selling afterall.
![]() |
I don't want extra loot or anyone else's share. I'm happy to do this however everyone wants.
My proposal would be:
1) We receive loot and do a distribution
2) Sell whatever no one wants
3) Take party items (CLW wands, maybe some story items like the dagger) out of the pot (i.e. it doesn't count against you since it benefits the group)
4) Equally divide everything else
5) If someone has claimed something, the value of that claimed item comes out of their share of the gold
I'm sure in the end it will all even out. If everyone would rather do it differently, that works, too.
Derrik Nular |
Derrik can help you with the Cats Grace spell since I have 2nd level spells and access to it.
Derrik has 4k right now and no need for the cloak (Not that it isn't awesome that Tax can craft them) since he has the Defense domain which gives it to me.
I am going to pay to increase Derrik's Armor to +1 and get a master Work Morning Star.
Probably buy another Wand of Cure Light before we go as well. Other than that Derrik doesn't need much.
The Wand has 40 charges on it, I think we used the 41 on it and bought a new one, we can just go with that.
Are they any potions left over? Not that Derrik Needs them. I might buy a haversack.
Somer Hiondu |
I have 9 CLW potions. Feel free to relabel some to you Derrik. Moving to range I should only need a couple for emergencies.
It sounds like we will be in the wild for some time so a full wand might be good but I don't know.
Do we have someone, or access to someone, to enchant weapons? That might be better then a dex belt for me. Might be a GM question unless one of us has it.
Derrik Nular |
True I never thought of that, I will do that during my time off. Really I could do that for everyone who needs their armor upgraded. It does seem rather cheap though.
Somer Hiondu |
INtresting Tamxander, that changes thing then. I guess here is what I want to do.
- Efficient Quiver - Material Cost 900gp
- Enchant Weapon Later - 2000gp
This will allow me to put an additional +1 and Elemental Damage on the bow for 1 Arcane Point at level five.
- 500 GP to group fund or to bolster Mouser.
- 184 GP for some minor equipment and walking around money.
GM: Should we enter things that we want to buy / have crafted in sheet 1?
Balmir |
I updated my profile but I didn't include the amulet of natural armor or cloak of resistance yet. Are we doing those? What's the entire list of things that we want Tam to make?
1) Cloak of resistance for Balmir
2) Efficient quiver for Somer
3) ??
![]() |
I’d really like the Dex belt, if I just get that I’ll be good. If there happens to be more treasure for me I’d take the +1 cloak.
I was also thinking of a magical weapon, but if Tam can do that next level I’ll hold off until he has the feat.
Should we all just put our wishes on the spreadsheet and see how it looks? If we are short, I guess we take items off in order of who has the most?
![]() |
I added 2500 gp of stuff I'm hoping Tam can craft to the sheet (+2 belt and +1 cloak). If I end up with that I think I'll be golden for now.
I think if everyone will add what they are wanting to the sheet, we can see if we have enough to go around.
Looks like Somer and I have already added our items. If there's not enough time to craft the stuff, let us know.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Let's Say the town gives you 6 days before getting antsy.
Remember the material components for the masterwork transformation spell is basically the same as making it masterwork in the first place. So you are only really saving 1/2 the original cost of the weapon. It is mostly valuable for upgrading a weapon of personal significance.
Somer Hiondu |
On that topic I am assuming there is no one in town that can enchant a weapon. Would that be correct?
GM Fuzzfoot |
It might be best if you just list purchases here and I will update the sheet. For instance, even though Tam created a cloak of resistance for 500, it's value is still 1000. But to keep things balanced, we need to have an outlay of 500 worth materials. I'll cleanup the sheet and resort it, and then you can tell me if everything looks right.
GM Fuzzfoot |
OK - sheet updated. I wasn't really sure what was going on with Somer's bow enchantment, but you are correct in that no one in Trunau can enchant it for you. So I just left it as 2000 value in materials that cost you 2000. If this results in a +2 bow, we will modify the value then.
They do have the following available for purchase:
Minor Items +1 heavy steel shield, +1 light crossbow, cowardly
crouching cloakUE, oil of shillelagh, ring of spell knowledge IUE,
scroll of divine power, scroll of magic weapon, wand of magic
missile; Medium Items +2 greatsword, potion of resist energy
(fire); Major Items —
I have you with 6476 gold remaining, in case anyone was waiting to see what was left...
Somer Hiondu |
I spent an additional 32gp on the following, I assume they would be available if not let me know.
10 Elven Rations
Grappling Arrow
Silk Rope
20 Arrows (bringing me to 60)
I can take Craft Magical Arms and Armor so it is not all on you at the next level. I basically get two feats anyway. You call really but I do not mind. Alternatively I was going to take extra arcane points but can certainly live without.
Tamxander Glenfarrow |
If I can get the 1,125 that I mentioned earlier for spells, I'm good for now! I'll make my own cloak of resistance next time we have another spare day in town.
Note to folks getting stat boost items: Remember that by the rules you can upgrade the power of a stat booster (turn +2 Dex belt into +4) but you can't add another stat to it (if it's a +Dex belt, you can't turn it into a +Dex/+Con belt). This is important if you are dependent upon multiple ability scores: You don't want a +Wis headband now if you are gonna have to sell it back later to get +Wis/+Cha instead.
Mostly important to Derrik, who as a cleric probably benefits from +Wis/+Cha, and to Balmir, who benefits from +Str/+Con.
Somer Hiondu |
Just a little heads up.
We cancelled my wife's 40th birthday in favor of a Disney vacation. I will be gone the 28th to the 3rd so posting will be light.
Balmir |
Great. Have fun. Going to a park or a cruise? For my parent's 50th wedding anniversary we (my parents and all my siblings and extended families -- 24 of us) went on a Disney cruise. It was a lot of fun. My kids are all teenagers and they still loved it.
Somer Hiondu |
We did the cruise for our honeymoon. This is just us, our 1.8 year old daughter and my mother in law going to Disney World. Its funny, we were not going when I woke up this morning and now we have 2/3 of the trip planned.
GM Fuzzfoot |
If you have any questions on planning, let me know... we go often.
Would have been there this week, but other events have transpired to prevent it.
Somer Hiondu |
I have known my wife 10 years and we have been 9 times. It is our addiction. Last time we went for my daughters 1st haircut of all things.
Trickiest bit at the moment is getting Fastpass to the Avatar thing-a-ma-gig.
For added fun a friend who leaves the day before we arrive is going to try and hide things in the parks for us to find.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sounds fun! Yah, that fastpass is hard to snag, but we managed at Thanksgiving If you haven't been on it, it is quite cool - but nothing is worth standing in line for 4 hours!
Both my daughters had first haircuts there. :)
Derrik Nular |
I haven't been there since I was like 9, being 33 now it would be very different, My wife doesn't really have any desire to go, I think my kids would but the Canadian Dollar sucks right now so it would be to costly.
Somer Hiondu |
I just work from the assumption that Disney is always very expensive. There are ways to reduce cost but still.... expensive.
Just found out last night that a friend of mine is on the same flight with his family and staying in the same resort. Crazy.
If I have to stand in a four hour line I will. My wife can do other things, I can read for four hours and she can catch up. Still would rather not. If we time things right we will have the second kid during the height of the Star Wars opening and go a year or so later.
Somer Hiondu |
As of 4:30am tomorrow I will not have an actual computer with me. Phone and iPad only so please bot me as needed. I will return to normal activity on the 4th or 5th.
Somer Hiondu |
Disney was great. The GM of our resort and I got talking and he Magic Moment-ed me 3 on demand fast passes a day. We could just walk up to any three rides and hop on!
![]() |
I forgot to mention I'm on spring break (Moab, Utah) with my family through Monday. Please bot me as needed!
GM Fuzzfoot |
Hey gang, I wanted to let you know that I need to scale back a bit on my games. I have found that I am spending as much as 4 hours a day reading, prepping and posting, and it's just too much. Right now, I am GMing 5 games, and each takes a minimum of 30 minutes for a decent post, and I am sure everyone has seen the resulting lag time because I just can't get the time free.
So, one of these is PFS and should wrap up soon, so I won't be taking on any more of those for a while. (Especially since PFS 1 is now on short time, it just doesn't seem worth the effort).
Three of my games are the giantslayer ones, and while it does help with prep time some, you are often at different places, etc. There was not nearly as much attrition as I expected, but there has been some.
So, I am thinking about disbanding the 3rd game, and would like to offer the 4 remaining half-orc characters spots in the other two. This would bring you guys up to a party of 7.
I haven't told them yet, but they have been strong players, so I suspect they would rather move than be done. They just beat the big bad guy in book 1 and have a bit more to wrap up, so they would miss out on this first part of book 2 you have been working on.
What do you think?
![]() |
I’m fine with a party of 7. These games tend to last a few years, and we could easily lose a player or two in that time.
I’d much rather have you feel you have the games under control so we can keep going.
Somer Hiondu |
Knowing how much work it is to GM I say anything that makes it easier for you is good. A Mouser said these games will go on for a long long time. If it is a chore for you it is more likely to fall apart.
I agree with Tamxander, boosting our front line would be a good thing.
Do you plan to scale up the encounters to balance for seven people? I am finding that I have to do that in the games I am running otherwise it is too easy.
