Putting down a large tome. Trunau seems the place to start. There is a mention of this Council of Thorns operating in the area. I have found several references to them having the ability to manipulate dimensions. With that he picks up his pack, weapons and spell book leaving home fir the first time on his own. History:
Sorasen and Meriann were in love in the way that is normally reserved for poetry. Living the lives of intellectuals, each with a field of specialty that keep them intellectual stimulated in their seclusion. Into this life they brought a son combining their spirits and their names in little Somer. Somer was a good student and took to his lessons well but he also had a less cerebral side and worked with martial weapons and even dancing. In his adolescence, he began to dabble in the less theoretical side of magic and found a teacher to learn the practical application of magic. Somer’s bifurcated life was not welcomed by any of his teachers but it was undeniable that he had talent so they chalked it up to youthful exuberance. This went on for a decade or so until a strange elf arrived with a flashing smile, flaming scimitar and thick spell book. This elf, Ledia, Somer learned was something he had never heard of a magus. A wielder of martial weapons who could cast the spells of a wizard and even pass the power of those spells though her weapons. Somer was hooked. His parents, loving their son, convinced Ledia to stay, enticing her with an ancient magic item they had discovered and were investigating. This item, a plain looking black mirror would swirl with power and absorb and spell directed at it into its black depths. By day Ledia tutored Somer and by night she worked with his parents. Things were going well until they pushed the envelope. Ledia cast one of her most powerful spells at the mirror and it reacted violently. As Somer watched on energy spewed form the mirror absorbing not only the spell but Ledia and his parents and then the mirror itself. Greif racked Somer for many weeks at the loss of his parents and teacher but slowly it faded into determination. He would join the wider world and seek the knowledge needed to find the origin of the mirror and maybe where his parents and teacher had been take too. After some research his best lead was an Druid group the Council of Thorns. With that he set out for Trunau. Recent History:
It has been 15 years since Somer left his home for Trunau and he has met nothing but disappointment on his quest. Arriving in Trunau he quickly found what he could about the Council of Thorns and after some research found he was at a dead end. Disheartned the only thing he could think to do next was to travel to Magrima where there was greater access to research materials. There he spent five year chasing leads but at the end of the day he has concluded that his parents are simply gone. Somer moved back to Trunau, buying a small house, and spends the majority of his time reading and drinking wine. Probably too much wine. He keeps up on his studies to some degree with both sword and spell but his skills have slipped a bit over time though he has been knowen to help the town guards here and there. He makes a meger living identifying the odd magical item, doing research projects for the council and giving fencing lessons. Somer is simply a lost soul living in Trunau waiting for his fate to change. He has a few friends but no really that close. "The artifact that took my family was some sort of portal. But to where?"
