"Sune, dig in for a moment."

Syllyn smooths down his crest, and considers the mans words thoughtfully.

"I see. This box is under the guards protection and you want us to retrieve it. I suspect that asking them nicely won't do any good? I am not all that familiar with the culture around here, but some things remain the same everywhere, and one of those things is that guards react violently to such things. Are you absolutely sure that THIS is what we were sent here to do?"

His gaze, though indecipherable to most humans, grows quite dubious.

Guaril smiles one of those greasy smiles that leaves you feeling a little soiled afterward at Sune's promise. "You my dear, would have a promising future within this company." He looks at the others and waves one hand dismissively in the air. "As for guards, there are none. While the warehouse was seized, there is no one watching it... other than apparently some creep snooping about. Which is why I am asking you to retrieve my items from the crate in question. It is not stealing if it was mine to begin with..." He smiles again. "As for everything else in the warehouse, well, if the others are not savvy enough to retrieve their own items, then I would daresay they could be considered abandoned property. If its been abandoned, then it has no owner, and therefore would not be stealing. Don't you agree? In any case, please do hurry. Those books are exceedingly rare and possibly fragile."

"I don't have any time to work for you!" Sune responds to the sleazy man, "Except to accomplish this one task. Then we must be on our way!" she says, impatient to leave.

"Alright...I'm going!" she adds, then turns on her heel and hurries toward the warehouse.

Rerois arches an eyebrow. "If the warehouse was seized by the law, then all items within it are evidence and should be left until the Watch is finished investigating. Do you have proof these books are your property and are not involved in your friend's legal troubles?"

Syllyn is sincerely perplexed. He has always been a rule abiding Nagaji and is struggling to understand his place in this human world. He just wants to know if this is against the rules or not and it is so complicated. At this point, however, he is ready to just listen to others more knowledgeable about these things called laws which sound like rules but are obviously not. How can one not know the rules? Don't these humans teach their egglings? Well, I'm guessing lizards lay eggs. There's not a heck of a lot of info out there

Guaril raises an eyebrow at Sune's impatience, but quickly turns his attention to Rerois. "Do you have any proof that the armor you are wearing is yours? You have the smell of a horseman about you." He makes a point to audible sniff Rerois and wrinkle his nose. "Or perhaps can you prove that your horse belongs to you? Say you were stabling your hoofed companion at a stable and that owner was arrested and his stables seized by the authorities. Now you are unable to retrieve your horse from the stables, because as you so pointed out, it is now evidence. Now to further prove my point, say you heard from very reliable sources that a shady figure was lurking about those stables and paying very close attention to your horse... What would you do?"

"Of course I can prove ownership of my horse. Swift Grey is a pale grey Chelaxian warhorse, fifteen hands tall at the shoulder, trained by myself to come at my command and to fight in battle. Furthermore, he is branded with my crest, as any valuable property should be. Can you describe these books of yours? A physical description of the books and list of the titles thereof would be sufficient."

Guaril narrows his eyes at Rerois and speaks through clenched teeth. "You are an irksome man; however, if it would ease your conscience I will provide you with the list of books that can be found. I cannot describe them, because they were being delivered to me." With that he leaves for a moment and returns with a manifest with the following titles scrawled on it: Practical Thaumaturgy In Accordance with Creation, Geographic Anomalies of the Inner Sea, Under Kaer Maga: A Trial and Travel, Physiology of Dragons: An Illustrated Reference, Lost Sarusan. As Guaril hands the manifest to Rerois he speaks again. "I needn't remind you, Recruit, that you are here on behalf of Ambrus Valsin and the Pathfinder Society. So I suggest before you decide to impose your own morality upon others, you stop and think about that for a moment. I can assure you, Ambrus will not appreciate your lack of respect displayed here." Once Rerois has had the opportunity to look over the manifest, he snatches it from his hands and walks away. "Now, please begone. Your odor offends my delicate senses." He disappears into the back room of the shop.

Perched on the end of a long pier fifteen feet above the water, the warehouse appears to struggle against its own roof, threatening to sag into the bay below. No light shines from the building’s windows and only the movement of gulls and pelicans stirs the scene. As far as you can tell there is no one around... How do you wish to proceed?

Sune watches as Syllyn rushes toward the door.

"Finally! Someone who is not moving slow as molasses!" she says approvingly.

Once the skald has listened at the door, she pushes on it to see if it's open.

Rerois slams his boot into the door, but while he rattles the door hard and fractures the frame, it still holds shut... It looks as if the other may be able to assist with Rerois' extraordinary attempt!

Strength check DC is 22... Just need two folks to make an Assist DC 10 and we'll call it good.

Not a major deal, just surprised it's so high in a low-level scenario. DC 22 is approaching iron reinforced door difficulty. Almost seems like a punishment for not having someone with Disable Device in the party.

Assuming we get the books back, I'll get one of the goals for the Dark Archive checked off. Whoo!

Together Rerois, Syllyn, and Sune blast the door off it's hinges and hear the sound of a board go clattering across the warehouse... Darkness fills the warehouse, the ambient light from outside blocked by a filthy, oily film on the structure’s few windows. Darting illumination comes from light reflecting off the water through a splintered hole in the floor. Throughout the warehouse, crates, boxes, and barrels lean against each other in vaguely sorted stacks. A lingering smell indicates some of the contents are certainly spoiled.

Ahhh. A harrow deck! Most curious. All of these Pathfinders, most curious.

Syllyn starts poking about, looking for a heavy box with books.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"Odd. They bar the door but leave a huge hole in the floor. Everything looks abandoned! Hmmm. This would make a good fishing spot," he states, peering down the hole as he passes it by.

Within 30' of the doorway the lighting is Dim Light conditions. The far Northeast corner is Dark, and the southern half of the warehouse is Dim Light from the light reflecting up from the water and through the hole in the floor. Please adjust your icons on the map to indicate your positions.

Juhnavi does not detect any magical auras within the warehouse. Syllyn notices the following as he begins to move around the warehouse.

Just inside the door sits a handful of crates and kegs of beer. Most of these smaller crates and barrels contain foodstuffs in various states of freshness. Some crates reek of rot. Stacks of simple coffins sit against the east wall. The rest of the crates stacked along the north and south walls contain simple sundries including, but not limited to beer, blocks of clay, coffee, coils of rope, dried fish, lead ingots,nails, nets, raw cotton, rough wool, spare sails, timber planks, various pulleys and tools, and cheap weapons.

Golangar enters and immediately hugs the walls, hoping if there are any creatures inside that he can be unseen and not associated with the broken in door.

"I'll look for the crates, I guess," she says, using her keen eyes to locate the crates with the correct symbol on them.

I just realized that none of you have a magical way to deal with darkness and only two of you have any type of light source. It won't come much into play this scenario other than in this instance, but for The Confirmation I cannot stress how important a light source will be to the party!

Through a little detective work, the group locates the crate for which they are looking. Unfortunately, all the talking and moving about has angered a nest of dire rats! The party is alerting by the sudden squeaking of boards and the scrabbling of claws across wooden planks! Suddenly three filthy looking dire rats burst out of the north wall!

Inspired Rage Effects:

Raging Song (Su): A skald is trained to use music, oration, and similar performances to inspire his allies to feats of strength and ferocity. At 1st level, a skald can use this ability for a number of rounds per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier. For each level beyond 1st, he can use raging song for 2 additional rounds per day.

Starting a raging song is a standard action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. A raging song cannot be disrupted, but it ends immediately if the skald is killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action each round to maintain it. A raging song counts as the bard's bardic performance special ability for any effect that affects bardic performances. A skald may learn bard masterpieces.

A raging song has audible components, but not visual components. Allies must be able to hear the skald for the song to have any effect on them. A deaf skald has a 20% chance to fail when attempting to use a raging song. If he fails this check, the attempt still counts against his daily limit.

When the skald begins a raging song and then on each ally's turn, if the ally can hear the raging song, that ally must decide whether to accept or refuse its effects. This is not an action. Unconscious allies automatically accept the song. If accepted, the raging song's effects on that ally last for that ally's turn or until the song ends, whichever comes first.

Inspired Rage (Su) At 1st level, affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC. While under the effects of inspired rage, allies other than the skald cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. At 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the song's bonuses on Will saves increase by 1; the penalty to AC doesn't change. At 8th and 16th levels, the song's bonuses to Strength and Constitution increase by 2. (Unlike the barbarian's rage ability, those affected are not fatigued after the song ends.) If an ally has her own rage class ability (such as barbarian's rage, bloodrager's bloodrage, or skald's inspired rage), she may use the Strength, Constitution, and Will saving throw bonuses, as well as AC penalties, based on her own ability and level instead of those from the skald (still suffering no fatigue afterward). However, inspired rage does not allow the ally to activate abilities dependent on other rage class abilities, such as rage powers, blood casting, or bloodrager bloodlines; the ally must activate her own rage class ability in order to use these features.

You still get the miss chance due to dim light, but you double the distances that are given. So where anything past 30' of the doorway is in darkness, you treat it as 60' past the doorway instead. A torch creates normal light within 20' and increases the ambient light 40' past that. Low-light vision doubles that to 40' and 80'. Looking at the map, you can ignore anything listed as being in darkness and treat it as dim light instead.
