In all my gabbing, I forgot it was my turn.. if the door is still locked, I am going to keep at it. If not, let me know.
Cursing, Awen keep trying the damned door.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
HA! Finally!!
"Lets go! I finally got it!"
Lucija Lal Rani |
Uh-oh. I just noticed you are where you are, Awen - I'm afraid that in order to get there, you'd have had to go through my nasty wall.
I also have to do this to you for last round, too:
fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 Nothing wrong with being a Tiefling. :)
Before I have to roll for the much worse passing-through-the-wall damage, I wouldn't mind pointing out to you that going that direction is a great deal riskier than going through the door you were working on before, so MAYBE you'd like to reconsider while there's still time and say that's the door you were working on instead?
I think we're still going to need to overcome this battle regardless, though.
Awen |
Well, I was initially working on the exterior door, and something happened. I dont know how, but my token was moved to the door that I am at now. I would really rather not chance your wall.. and I mentioned my confusion a bit earlier, but got no response so I just left my token where it was and went along with it.
All that you told us about the Nightshades distraction was that they were willing to distract the guards. I guess that we failed to actually define that.
"Whatever we do, we need to do it quickly. Lets grab Lucija and decide from there."
With these words, Awen moves to the door behind Orik and checks for anyone beyond it.
[dice=Perception]1d20+12
I thought I was working on the door to the outside.. but this works too. We can explore as we retreat I guess.
Working feverishly to get the door open, Awen answers the disembodied voice coming from nearby "Yes.. We can at the very least pull a fighting retreat through the building. Perhaps we can find something on the way out."
EndlessForms |
I had to move Awen to the other door for his actions to make sense since the door he was at was already unlocked, it just didn't really go anywhere useful. I thought he was trying to unlock the door he's at now but just hadn't updated the map. We will assume he was there before the wall of fire was put up so no need for him to cross it.
One note though: summoned creatures can not use their teleport abilities. Link "A summoned monster cannot summon or otherwise conjure another creature, nor can it use any teleportation or planar travel abilities."

Lucija slows the angelic guardian and some of the human guards. Orik then beats on the guardian until it falls. Insidion then moves in and drops one of the guards with a single bite.
Hearing the voice coming from the conference room, Victoria sprays glitter in the area and reveals the half-elf woman on the table, blinding her and her guards in the process.
Meanwhile Awen pops open the far door, providing a convenient way to retreat if needed or at the very least provide access to further rooms yet unexplored.

I really appreciate that, EF. Thanks for the clarification, and I guess that was my misinterpretation thinking the door was locked.

"We've yet to accomplish our goal. At this point, we must press any advantage we have." Baz ponders out loud as he glances at the open door, then back to the blinded leader. Cursing softly, he darts into the room and slashes at her, calling on his powers to pass judgement. Attack and damage

Sorry for the delay! Got back from my trip Wednesday but then had a lot to catch up on yesterday.
Baz wounds the half-elven woman and she lets out a curse as the blood begins to flow. "Get out of here!" she yells to her men. Going to remove then and not worry about them any more since they didn't pose a threat anyways.

"OOOPH!!!!" Awen exclaims as an unseen force pummels him. He looks back at the wall of fire separating him from the rest of the party, draws his bow, and throws the door open wide.
Victoria Hennessee |
Hearing the cry from Awen, Victoria will peek through the door, avoiding the flame wall.
If a foe is visible she will cast magic missiles at it.
Otherwise she will lob another glitterdust in the room, avoiding Awen.
"What happened Awen? I do not see anyone. Was there a trap?"
Awen |

I'm having a hard time remembering what the icon to the south of mine is on the map. If that's an enemy, I'll rip into it with tooth and claw. If not, I'll move to the north, drop out of rage, and cast magic missile at the invisible stalker.

"Once we finish this air creature, we need to decide - can we go deeper in or need to flee. What were you able to find before they attacked, Lucija?"
Victoria will delay to see how the group does with the stalker.
Lucija Lal Rani |
Lucija shares what she's discovered after the creature is eliminated.
I know I found a lot; I'm not 100% sure it's enough.
"...and look at this gem! It's magical for certain, but I cannot be expected to know everything - would any of you recognize its properties?" She gestures to the magical sapphire dominating the room they're presently in.
Orik Fistbreaker |
Moved Baz into the only square available for melee. Unfortunately, that move prevents ORik from getting close enough to attack.
Seeing the invisible stalker in the corner, and unable to get at him, Orik stands ready in case someone clears a lane for him to get inside.
Delay until someone clears a space, then Orik will move up and attack.
Lucija Lal Rani |
Here's an idea: DM, would you permit Orik to make a free and automatically successful reposition maneuver "against" Awen?
Also, you've got an extra 13 temporary hit points for the next 6 minutes, Orik.
EndlessForms |
Reposition would be a standard action but I'm guessing Awen would not want to fire his bow while right next to the invisible stalker, as that would provoke an AoO. If Awen had 5-foot-stepped away before firing, there would be room for Orik to move in.
Awen backs up and puts one arrow in the invisible stalker. The archon also hits once, although Baz misses.
Moved Orik up into melee.

Awen |
I would have considered a 5' step, but thought that we had to have the reposition teamwork feat to trade places with another player like that. Also, is the Egyptian token the archon? I thought the token represented an enemy.. in my mind anything I did provoked an AOO, short of pushing through the door to my right, and I didn't think we needed to open another can of worms by doing that.. Otherwise, Thank you for saving my bacon.. again..

No problem. The Egyptian icon is the archon; the (no-longer) invisible stalker is in the corner. So you had room to back into the corner before Orik moved in. I adjusted the tokens so everyone should be fine now.

In the next room that Awen unlocked, you find a vault. There are ironbound chests secured with magically enhanced locks and priceless artwork lining the walls. A cabinet filled with rare old tomes sits to the north.
An intact, flawless marble statue of Runelord Sorshen stands in the corner, arms open for an embrace. A glass case also holds a mantle of immortality.
[spoiler=DC 33 Spellcraft]You not only know the cloak's magical properties but also identify that the creator's magic has a distinctly Thassilonian style.
A small glass case underneath an oversized painting of Sloan hosts an amulet of the god caller (gills, swim) with a note:
This scaly amulet with serpentine gills and webbed horns is the original work of the Sarkorian god caller Jolef Riversoar, crafted between 4413 and 4418 ar. The amulet was passed down through his family line, until it was buried with one of his descendants in the Field of Thrones, a graveyard of honored heroes. This amulet was part of a substantial cache of items of magical and material value retrieved from the Field of Thrones in 4605 ar, on the eve of the fall of Sarkoris. While Sarkorian histories indicate other such amulets exist, granting other powers derived from the essence of eidolons, the late unpleasantness in the region has halted all further efforts at retrieval.

Remember, you were given strict orders not to harm Sloan. But you should try to unsettle him with your discoveries or your Writ of Authority. Skill checks will be needed.
