Some tips on posting in PbP:

"Use bolded text when you are speaking. It makes it stand out and is easier to read and to separate what you are actually saying in character." Use normal text to describe your characters actions, etc.

Italics can be used when your character is thinking or talking to themselves internally.

Out-of-character text should be reserved for out-of-character comments and should ideally be kept to a minimum in the gameplay thread. If it doesn't have to do immediately with what's happening in the game or if it's a particularly long comment, use the Discussion thread.

And, of course, always make sure your posts are easy to read and understandable. Breaking things up in smaller paragraph chunks (as I've done here) makes big blocks of text a lot easier to read.

Noob question, how does the dice rolling work? Do I just roll one of my dice, is there somewhere online I go to get a number?

Below the text box you post in there is a 'How to format your text' button. Have a look at that it should sort you out.

For example if I want to roll 1d20+9 I put that formula between 'dice' tags. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

picked grand lodge but might move over to lanterns before lv up. test 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Lantern Lodge is actually going away in another month or so, along with Shadow Lodge. It's still legal until August but just warning you that you'll eventually need to switch.

as mentioned this is my first ttrpg game, i'm going to get some stuff wrong. If anyone spots something wrong just let me know, im treating this as a learning exp. any tips for noobs are also welcomed. are we going to be using openrpg or another program for combat, etc?

Don't sweat getting things wrong. We're here to have fun and as long as that is happening, it's all good. There is no such thing as wrong fun.

Related to PBP specifically, I've a lot of table top and LARP experience, but little PBP. I did see this linked in another thread and it seems totally legit. PBP Advice

I think the key difference with PBP is that there is more chance for a narrative, for a deeper roleplay. That doesn't always happen in the PFS scenarios by their limite scope, but is definitely the case with the longer campaigns.

How much gold do we have to spend and do we get PP right away?

Pregens do not have PP and only have as much gold as is listed on their sheet.

sorry im trying to read the society guide but i fear im misinterpreting the information. this is my first game and i thought i seen i start with 150 gp (however now i can't find that info)?

by saying "pregens do not have PP" from that statement should i assume my char does start with pp?

Yes, a new character starts with 150 GP. But since you are playing a pregen of higher level, essentially all their gold has been spent. And you can't spend PP of a pregen. Especially if you're applying it to a new character who doesn't have their own PP yet.

"gold has been spent", u mean items i have already bought and are on my character sheet... right? should the same go for PP, what i mean is, when i created my char should i of already adjusted for PP or is it because i'm coming in with a pregen that i don't get PP?

When you play a pregen you only get what is on the sheet. If they have "20 GP" listed, that is all you have. You have no PP to spend because pregens essentially have no PP. You start with 150 GP when you make a new character, but when you're playing a pregen all you have access to is what is on their character sheet, unfortunately.

So if its a brand new character that isn't a pre gen you get the 150gp and a PP to spend on stuff?

but i have to use society approved pregens (of which my char is not)? or roll one in front of you? i don't mind changing my char stats over to a pregen or rolling again. i used an online sheet for the last guy and it calculated everything for me... which was nice.

Also i work well with excel and i don't mind collaborating info in excel format for everyone. there is a ton of excel resources out there already so really its just a matter of data manipulation and esthetics.

You don't roll characters in PFS, it's a 20-point buy system. So yes, you have to either create a brand new character, which you are welcome to do, but it has to be PFS-legal (check the Guide to Society Organized Play) or you can just play a PFS-approved pregen.

Done and hopefully correctly now so please check if you want. i've only spent 47(ish)gp so far and still have to pick my PP which i think is going to be a healing rod/wand. more shopping to do but that should be completed shortly (checking some material costs).

Razamoph, if this is a new character that has never been through a Scenario then he doesn't have any PP to spend yet.

No, that's fine, you don't have to list every piece of equipment right now.

And if this is a new character you have 0 PP right now so you can't spend any. Although spending your first 2 PP on a Wand of Cure Light Wounds is definitely a good idea.

Could everyone make sure their banner in the "Classes/Levels" has everything I asked for? Go back to the first post in this thread (the Discussion thread) and make sure it's all there. Sometimes I'll need to make Perception checks, etc, and I don't want to have to dig through everyone's profiles each time. Thanks!

If someone could help me with some equipment queries i have that would be great! I have some basics, silver and iron, dagger, club. i'm no good with them but i have them just in case. problem is i have to keep my distance as magic is finite, whats my best ranged attack weapon options (str 8)?

For a sorcerer with a low strength, I would suggest a light crossbow.

The only problem with your orders Kumari is that Karazan already expressly said he'd take up the rear rank. :)

True, I initially had Karazan in the back, with the ranger up front for tracking, but putting the guy who is busy for the next couple days up front seemed like a bit of a dick move. This way Dex can still contribute with his bow, ensures someone protects the rear, and hopefully the absent guy won't get beat up too bad. If we want to do something else, I'm fine with that too.

I'm fine with whatever, and being out front with a big target on her chest is probably going to be Mella's thing :)

Yeh originally I thought Dex to track and Mella to tank was going to be the party marching order up front which is why I thought id get the rear but it does make sense for Karazan and Dex to swap places if he is away for a few days.

Busy now, I'll try to update late tonight. If it rains in the next couple days I'll get off work and will be online most of the day, then we can start to move faster. Thanks!

a little help with animal handling feat please; i want to train my familiar rat, how to i begin? ideally i want to train it for a purpose but i'm unsure the process?

Familiars are smarter than animal companions. They don't need training.

Sure, go ahead. You are actually allowed to change anything about a character until you play them at 2nd level.

found a fantastic free character builder which feeds data straight from the rule book. Not sure if im able to mention it on the boards? I'm still polishing my char and was wondering how stringent the rules on ammo are? I hope im not flooding the board...
