Random does not notice any dust or footprints on the floor but as the party moves into the room to investigate further, one of the statues near the door begins to move!
temple guardian: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Phyton: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Random: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Jaysin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Nari: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Manzcar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Omorose: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Random is up!
EndlessForms |
Random fires an arrow at the statue but it flies off in in a different direction. go figure with that name, lol
The statue swings its longsword at Nari.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
You guys are up!
Nari Brau |
"Creepy Statue! Creepy Statue!" Nari yelps, the figure in front of her coming alive.
Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
She dashes away, blood streaming from the wound not quite healed...
Withdraw Action. Place myself behind random.
Jaysin Deckert |
Jaysin takes a quick 5' step back away from the statue and quickly releases a couple of arrows from his bow!
Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Arrow 1: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Arrow 1: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Manzcar Alexander |
Manzcar moves up not knowing what this thing is but trying to be careful of what this is.
What is this thing?
Knowledge dungeoneering? 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
edit doesn't matter if you did allow it LOL
Manzcar crouches in a low stance shield outstretched and sword pointing out to brace against attack
Should we be breaking it?
Total Defense AC is now 24
EndlessForms |
Phyton swings his polearm and hits the statue, taking a chunk out of it but finding that his weapon is not as effective against it as one would hope. Omorose heals her ally just as Nari runs away from the statue. Jaysin fires two arrows at it but again is only able to nick the Vudran guardian. Manzcar readies his shield against any incoming attacks.
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Guardian: 9 dmg
Random is up!
Random Derrick |
"It's better than it breaking us!"
Recognizing he has little chance of damaging the statue, he drops his shortbow and moves forward, drawing his longsword. He swings at the statue with a wide, distracting arc, attempting to reduce its defense against Phyton's next attack.
Aid another to give Phyton +3 to next attack roll (trait: battlefield disciple): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
EndlessForms |
I forgot earlier:
As Phyton strikes with his halberd, the statue's hard exterior seems to dent up the weapon!
damage to halbert: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 minus hardness-ability says though that (despite normal 'broken' rules) that if the weapon takes any damage above hardness it gains the broken condition.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Random moves up with his longsword and aids Phyton. The statue swings back at Random.
longsword attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Guardian: 9 dmg
You guys are up!
Manzcar Alexander |
Very well but beating at a stone being is bound to only damage my blade
Manzcar scowls as he swings his sword at the neck of the construct.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Jaysin Deckert |
Jaysin seems slightly taken aback by the fact that his arrows seemed to be less effective against the creature. Stone beings, what necromancy is this?
Rapid Shot 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Arrow 1: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Rapid Shot 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Arrow 2: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Random Derrick |
"Ahhgg!" Random winces in pain. "'Swordfish!' 'Password!' Well, I'm out of ideas! Fall back to the next room! Er, fall forward to the next room?"
"Nari! Grab my bow, please!" Just asking since it's on the floor next to you and you're closer to the door. If I stop to pick it up, I won't be far enough away from the statue if it can follow us.
EndlessForms |
Manzcar's blade hits the statue, dealing damage to both statue and blade. Jaysin's arrows hit but only one of them is able to take a chunk out.
Manzcar's blade damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Guardian: 15 dmg
Omorose, Phyton, Nari, and Random are up!
Random Derrick |
For this creature, though, it sounds like, because Manzcar's blade took 1 HP damage (if I understand it right: 11 damage - 10 hardness = 1 hp damage), it's automatically considered broken (link to definition). Correct me if I misunderstood your post above, though, GM.
Nari Brau |
Nari reaches down and grabs the bow while moving forward slightly to be directly behind Omorose. "Got it!"
She lays a hand on Jaysin. "Let me see if I can help those arrows bite a little harder."
Actions: Move Action - Grab Bow. 5ft step forward. Cast Guidance on Jaysin.
"This thing could be a danger to others! Best to take it down. Your bow will be safe where it is."
Nari moves forward, to directly behind Phyton and lays a hand on him. "Let me see if I can help your weapon bite a little harder."
Actions-Move to behind Phyton. Cast Guidance on Phyton
edit:altered what happens in the case where bow requires movement to grab.
Manzcar Alexander |
shouldn't a longsword have more than 2 HP. Actually found a link if my longsword is considered a one-handed metal hafted weapon it has a hardness of 10 and 20HP if considered just a one handed blade it is 10 and 5
EndlessForms |
A longsword is a one-handed blade so it has 5 HP and a hardness of 10.
Yes, normally a weapon is only considered broken if it goes down to half HP but this creature's ability says "Weapons that take any amount of damage in excess of their hardness gain the broken quality."
@Nari: I believe it would be a move action to pick up the bow
Nari moves up and casts guidance on Phyton.
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Guardian: 15 dmg
Omorose, Phyton, and Random are up!
Omorose |
Omorose frowns, not sure how she can aide her companions against this creature, she opts to copy Nari casting guidance upon Manzcar.
If if Phyton misses, or the statue hits, Omorose will use her Misfortune Revelation to make them reroll.
Phyton Empyraster |
Can't see map atm
Phyton takes a positioning step and swings his halberd in an attempt to knock the statue over.
Trip!: 1d20 + 4 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 3 - 2 = 13
Random Derrick |
Random takes another animated swing, attempting again to distract the statue enough to give Phyton another opening. He then backs up out of reach of the statue.
Aid another to grant +3 to hit to Phyton: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
5-ft step back.
Omorose |
I'll use an immediate action to grant Phyton a reroll, which I'll go ahead and do to save time.
Phyton Trip Reroll: 1d20 + 4 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 3 - 2 = 14 Blah!
Misfortune (Ex): At 1st level, as an immediate action, you can force a creature within 30 feet to reroll any one d20 roll that it has just made before the results of the roll are revealed. The creature must take the result of the reroll, even if it’s worse than the original roll. Once a creature has suffered from your misfortune, it cannot be the target of this revelation again for 1 day.
EndlessForms |
Phyton tries to pull the statue's legs out from under it while Random distracts it and the statue topples over.
The statue swings from the ground at Manzcar!
longsword attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 4 = 9
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Guardian: 15 dmg and prone
You guys are up!
Jaysin Deckert |
Can't anyone do anything to this blasted thing? I'm wasting good arrows here!
RS1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
CIA1: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
RS2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
CIA2: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The creature tumbles to the ground just as Jaysin was firing off his latest volley. Keep the damn thing still, you morons! spouts the Taldan.
Nari Brau |
"Ah ha! Try and kill me? How does it feel now Creepy Statue?" Nari Exclaims.
I still have no idea how I'm supposed to hurt this thing.
She moves to get a clear shot. Gets crossbow in position and fires.
Attack: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Actions:Move - 20ft(Based on map) to clear firing position, crossbow already loaded with bolt that light was cast on. Standard - Fire crossbow two handed.
EndlessForms |
Phyton swings and hits, his weapon taking another notch in the process.
weapon damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8
Nari and Jaysin fire projectiles at it but neither hit it from its defensible position on the floor.
Initiative:
1. Random
2. Vudran Temple Guardian
3. Omorose, Manzcar, Phyton, Nari, and Jaysin
Guardian: 23 dmg and prone
Omorose, Manzcar, and Random are up!
Manzcar Alexander |
Okay that makes sense then
Manzcar looks at his longsword and drops the broke thing.
He then pulls out his Morning Star.
You broke my favorite weapon.
Can I still attack?
Manzcar Alexander |
[ooc]If I still can[ooc]
Manzcar surges with all his might and swings heavy at the stone creature.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
EndlessForms |
Yes, it is a free action to drop your longsword, move action to pull your morningstar, then a standard to attack.
Manzcar brings his morningstar down on the statue. He crushes the head and the statue stops moving.
damage to weapon: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Out of combat!
Those of you with weapons that have taken damage: note that if someone doesn't have mending you can get it cast later and your weapon will be fixed. But it will be broken for the rest of the scenario unless someone has it.
Omorose |
Don't have it I'm afraid, but mending only works for up to 1lb per level so I suspect it won't work in any case, unless its specifically called out as doing so.
Omorose cautiously moves over to the door checking it for traps.
Perception vs Traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Perception vs Traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Perception vs Traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Perception vs Traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Perception vs Traps: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
EndlessForms |
The party looks about the room and finds that in the rubble of the Vudran statue lies a fist-sized opal.
You also find a small gold-plated statue of a many-armed Vudran goddess.
Nari Brau |
Nari walks over to crushed statue and kicks it lightly. "stupid statue, but pretty gem. Anyone mind if I carry it till we get out of here and can get it appraised?"
assuming no objections
Nari reaches down and plucks the opal from the ruins of the statue and places it in a pocket of her dress. She then sets out far more cautiously, seeking out anything else that may be hidden in the room.
Take 20 on perception = 23 perception.
Random Derrick |
Random walks around Phyton, inspecting his gear. "Ah, you have another weapon. I'll keep my longsword, then, until you break that one, too." He then picks up his bow. "Unless there was some password - it seems like Nigel could have shared it with us - I think it's safe to say that the Blackros girl and the guards went through the other door. Or the statue leaves you alone if you pass through here quickly."
Looking on as the party finds the opal and gold statue, "Nigel's the curator, but he's afraid to come down to the basement. I don't think he'll notice if anything goes missing. And you two already have the expense of replacing those weapons."
"Anyone have healing ability?"
Jaysin Deckert |
Jaysin lets the others handle the carrying of the loot and such. OK, lets lick our wounds and head on out of here before another one of these awful-looking statues decides to object to our presence here.
Nari Brau |
"No arguments here." Nari replies, confident that nothing suspect remains in this room. Assuming of course I don't find anything suspect in my inspection.
She then meanders over to Omorose, and waits for the rest of the party and the all clear to move forward.
EndlessForms |
Nope, no one finds anything else of interest in this room. Is there a consensus on which way?
EndlessForms |
There's the other set of doors from the entrance (sign: Storeroom 2) and there's a door in the back of the room (sign: Scriptorium—Quiet Please.)
EndlessForms |
Bare wooden shelves, empty except for some extra writing supplies (sheets of parchment, bottles of ink, and quills), line the eastern wall, and three desks with high stools stand in the center of the room between six columns. A small sign on the southern door reads “Archives—Private.”
A body lies slumped in the southwestern corner, still clutching a club. Its legs have been eaten away by acid, and the corpse is already showing signs of putrefaction, with patches of mold on the skin. A broken lantern lies next to the body, its oil spilled on the floor.
The two northern desks each contain small, empty candelabra, two bottles of dried ink, and old quill pens. The southern desk has been used more recently—the candelabrum holds the stubs of half-burnt candles, the ink bottles are still wet, and fresh ink stains the quill pens. A handful of books and scrolls, treatises on the solar system and the empty space beyond, lie open on the desk.
