For those who have never heard a cajun accent, I give you Justin Wilson and the tail of the squirrel chunkin' boy
This is basically how Darvin sounds when he talks.

Meh, I just realized you have to take Literacy to read and write, which is kind of required for Darvin. *sigh* Ok to switch out Knife/Sword for Literacy?
Is it possible to speak English & Creole without taking Linguistics?
Darvin Tarroh |
Darvin Tarroh At least, unless I find something I like better.
Darvin Tarroh |
Creole is a pidgin of French and not a written language so much. I really don't mind if you speak it, however, if you wanted French you would need linguistics.
You will need literacy. This is the old west not everybody could read and write.
On a real life note, don't ever ever every tell a Cajun that Crole is Pidgin French. Especially not if you're not in a public place. I've seen people get knocked down for saying that. :)
Ok, I'll switch out knife for Literacy then, and pick up Linguistics down the road.

I am considering adding a sixth game I'm running, now that my work life has settled down with my new job (And my jaw is no longer stabbing pain into my brain). If you are interested in GURPS, you can look here and if interested, let me know in the thread.
Rather than do a public recruitment, I'm just going to ask people I'm playing with already first.

Just to be clear, I'm not cheating. I was rolling to see if I noticed anyone else cheating. At least that's how I understood the rules. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm not familiar with GURPS and don't want to spread myself too thin especially with too many new game systems. Thanks for the offer though.

Ahh! I saw the second roll from Gambling and assumed you were using those rules. My mistake. Consider the brow-waggle to be about seeing a genuine card sharp, from the way you hold or hand-shuffle your cards.
Darvin Tarroh |
Darvin should be a decent brawler, if I remember my rules correctly. He's got a high strength, and a higher coordination, and a point of Brawling.
Doctor Devon McBride |
Wouldn't winner of initiative have an opportunity to respond to loser's planned action?
Both roll initiative.
Loser declares action.
Winner declares action.
Actions resolved. This gives a benefit to the winner.
GMEDWIN |
If we look at the example on page 48 of the rules. Initiative gives you the first action and third. On the first round, I thought it would be fair to grant Darvin an undefended first shot. I am thinking about house ruling an initiative bonus vs defense if you win initiative by 3 points where your action is either so quick or unexpected that the defense is negated.
Darvin Tarroh |
The biggest problem I have with the combat rules is that your coordination has no effect on it. :) It would seem that someone with an 18 coordination should usually win initiative over someone with say an 8 coordination, but per the game, it's just a random die roll, meaning the 8 coordination beats the 18 coordination half the time.
In other words, Slow Poke McGraw beats Lightning Lem to the punch half the time in actual punching. :)

Man, dice bot is hating Darvin right now, handing out multiple combo/uppercut/haymakers to Mike.
Still, Darvin did pretty damn good against a professional fighter, so he'll not have been embarassed. And I doubt Mike can go another round with someone else. ;)

Sorry everyone, I'm falling way behind with work and need to cut back a few games. This one seems to be healthy without me. Not fair to keep slow posting. :( Have fun!
Nikomedos |
Hey all, posting this in all my games to let people know I'll be away for a few days. My family is headed to camp later today, and I won't have Internet or my computer while I'm there. I should be back and posting Friday afternoon/evening (Eastern Time), but please push the game as needed, botting my character if you need to do so. Thanks!
Charlie Smallfoot |
I am on vacation this week until next Monday, Please bot me as necessary. If I'm running the game, I will do what I can to check in, but don't expect much activity from me this week. Thank you.
Nikomedos |
To be honest, I didn't really have a reaction. Niko already had a plan of action in mind, which I'd been working toward for a little while, and then a couple other folks voiced that they'd be interested in joining with that. The arrival of a random couple of people doesn't change that plan.
Sorry if that comes across as snippy or anything, I don't mean it to be. I just honestly didn't know how to respond to the event, because I have no response. It doesn't seem to have any bearing on my part in the game.

Hey there, this is a friend of Loup Blanc. He sent me a text to let you know his computer is currently busted, and he's not sure when (or if) he'll be able to get it fixed. He's looking for other means of posting, but if those don't pan out he'll likely be MIA for a while until he can find a way to get online and post.
Loup Blanc |
And I'm back! It was probably a false flag--my laptop crashed, and I was concerned due to the nature of it that the screen had broken. I've had bad luck with computers in the past, so I wanted people to be aware if it was a worst case scenario. For right now, I'm okay, but if I go dark you know why.
Charlie Smallfoot |
Okay, bad news on my end. My computer is down for what duration I cannot say. I might be back online in a few days, it may be a few weeks. Needless to say, this suspends my gaming. I can log on through my wife's computer, but I cannot access any of my files. Hopefully, this will be resolved within a week. Please bear with me.
If I am in your game, bot me as necessary (though I will try to log on once a day).
If you are in one of my games, I don't know what to say. I will try to keep things moving as best I can with what I have to work with, but as I said, my files are inaccessible right now. Just hang in there and we'll be back!
Nikomedos |
Before I post any actions for the round, I'd like to know if we're in Shootout or Combat Turns, as it makes a big difference. The hip fire from the Sheriff makes me think Shootout, but then we'd be going by counts rather than taking full actions... and in any case, isn't the losing side in initiative supposed to declare their actions first?

The horses are around 24ft. from the bucket brigade. I tried to do it on the map but I am no longer able to copy avatars from Paizo. Christopher is another 36ft from them. :( If you look on the map, The three of you are standing between the stable and the well. The horse are at the corner of the hotel building and and christopher is between the bank and the hotel building.
Doctor Devon McBride |
So the guys robbed the bank at the other end of town, and then rode through town just to rub it in? Instead of just going east out of town while everyone else is on the west end fighting the fire?
GMEDWIN |
Dead Mule is built in a narrow pass that cuts through the thumb of the Black Mountains. The land in the area is extremely rough and the road is surrounded by high ground on both sides. Dead Mule sits in the shelter of two jutting ridges. From these ridges, it is possible to see most of the southern end of the pass. Little vegetation grows in the area. except around the town itself. where a natural spring provides water for a few trees and gardens.
Basically(East or actually North) is deep in the mountains. The logic is that the robbery would go according to plan and they could just ride through without any noticing because of the fire.
Doctor Devon McBride |
I thought this was a pass-through for the coach? Is it an end point?
If an end point, it seems weird that the two latest arrivals got kicked off for not having money to go further, they're at the end of the line.
If it is a pass through, that would still mean an in and out?
