Angela gives a look down the hallway. "Hmm, maybe the Ambassador's room will have some of the information we need."
She watches the timing of the servants coming and going. but can't sem to make heads or tails of the timing.

Perception, heroism: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 2 = 13
Somebody will roll above a 10 this campaign...

![]() |

First to succeed gets the whole party across here, the rest just take time.
Sheela and Sirius begin to move forward, but one of the servants begins to walk over with a set of trays on a small cart, clearly looking for someone to make a delivery. They pop back, flush with the wall, then wait a few more minutes before things seem to clear out. Once Koani spots another gap, you make it across to the ambassador's room. The door is locked, however one of the keys provided by Amara Li bears the same markings as the room and you're able to slip in without attracting any more attention.
The furniture in this luxurious sitting room is covered by drop-cloths, and buckets of paint sit against walls where erotic murals are in the process of being replaced by a neutral institutional taupe. An enormously tall gilt frame leans against the wall. A door to the east leads to a hallway, while to the southwest a door is propped open by a bucket and displays the half-dissolved inscription, “Where Love Comes to Die.”
About 15 minutes have elapsed and you all feel like you've been making good time.

![]() |

Koani takes a moment to pat and reward her good little dino with attention. Then she glances to some of her companions. "Does this room mean anything to you guys? It appears that someone is trying to 'clean up' this room in more than one way. Isn't Zarta known for being a bit... interesting?"

![]() |

Sheela grins. "Oh, was she? Hehe..." She coughs. "Where Love Comes to Die? That's a bit morbid, isn't it?"
Sheela casts Detect Magic and scans the bucket.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Oh hey, I rolled over 10!
"Well, I don't have to tell you we should peek behind the mysterious door?" Sheela looks Southwest.

![]() |

As a note, there are a total of 3 keys on the keyring you were given. One bears the stamp of the Chelish cross, which matched the entrance to this room. One was a nondescript key which was used for the waiting room. The last bears a sigil of Asmodeus.
No magic radiates from the bucket but it emits a rather harsh smell. I'll use that roll for a perception check instead to investigate it.
The bucket contains a mixture of turpentine and varnish. Next to the bucket is a stack of several pieces of art, some of which have been obliterated likely using the mixture contained within the bucket. One of them includes a full-length artistic rendition of Zarta in scanty red apparel. It looks as though, as Koani indicated, someone is indeed trying to 'clean up' this room.
The other door within this room or the door outside? Outside will need another check to navigate the hall.

![]() |

Angela takes an impartial look around the room, noting the paintings and clean up efforts. "I can't say much for the taste, but these paintings are well done, you can see the care the painter took in making them. It's a shame to see them getting 'cleaned up.'"
She heads to the door further into the room. "Before we risk the hallway again let's make sure there's nothing here that can tell us what we need to know." She listens at the door for a second before carefully opening it to the room beyond.
___________
Perception: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17

![]() |

No sound comes from beyond the door, and it appears to be unlocked.
This extravagant bedchamber is dominated by a massive four-poster bed that takes up half the room. Red-varnished wardrobes and vanities complement the black silk sheets on the bed, which appears to be in the process of being dismantled. The walls of the room have been stripped of the portraits that once hung there, faint outlines of the art pieces being all that remain. The exception to this is the eastern wall, which is occupied by an elaborate woodcutting depicting but a single nymph in a seductive pose, garbed in nothing but a necklace bearing an amulet shaped like the
Asmodean star.

![]() |

"Ooo!" Sheela's eyes are drawn to the luxurious bed, the decadent black sheets, and the beautiful visage before her. "Someone has fine tastes. If it weren't for the infernal influences I'd throw one hell of a party here."
Sheela stands up straight, suddenly. "Do you- do you think Zarta fell in with the wrong crowd?"
Sheela scans the image for any magical effects.

Sirius looks at the woodcutting of the nymph.
"Nice woodcutting...nice amulet...nice..." His gaze looks like it might be about to wander downward, but it suddenly fixates on the amulet bit. "...hole? Ah-HA!"
He takes the sigil-shaped key from the keyring and carefully uses it on the keyhole deviously concealed in the amulet.

![]() |

Sheela grins as Sirius mentions holes. "Rather blunt, but.. oh, a keyhole." she giggles as a) she sees Sirius for the first time in maybe 10 minutes, and b) trying to unlock the amulet.

![]() |

The key fits perfectly! As Sirius turns the key a pair of little devils appear as new etchings in the woodcutting. Then they appear out of the woodcutting... in the flesh. Fiendish wings and a whipping scorpion-like tail lash behind these diminutive, red-skinned nuisances.

Angela gives a look around the room, curious as to what might be in the place. She, too, notices something unusual about the amulet in the painting, but also that Sirius also has it covered. Instead she goes to the door and takes a moment to mess around with it. With her back turned she doesn't immediately notice the new devils in the room until they attack.
Whiling around the halfling takes in the scene with some surprise. "What did you do? Why are there small, what I assume are devils, here?" With a sigh she pulls out her longspear and readjusts herself to be able to help the fight. Once in place she takes a second to study the movements of the beasts and, taking her longspear, starts trying to point out places to Sirius. "I don't know much about outsiders, it's still on my reading list, but, Sirius, if you try to hit them on the wing where it attaches to the body, it'll probably cause the thing a great deal of pain."

The attack was at Sheela. Was mixing up icons.
Sheela reaches out to touch the imp but it snickers and corkscrews around, evading her. Rogar barrels in, swinging down hard with his axe, but at the end of the swing all he can see is the laughing imp sitting on top of the axe blade. As he pulls the axe back, the imp hops up and bows. It's too busy taking it's bow to realize what Sirius is about to do and staggers around blindly as the sylph backs away. You normally do need to make acrobatics checks from both, however in this case since green is blind you only need to make one against red, which you passed. Also, yes, aid and flanking do help with combat maneuvers.

Koani fires an arrow at the imp who continues to twist and hop blindly. Taking extra care to avoid her allies she waits to line up a clear shot then lets loose a single arrow, striking the blasted creature. Pieces of the arrow sizzle away as it strikes, but it still leaves a wound on the creature. (Some of the damage was reduced by DR)
Blarg rushes in to the fray and gnashes at the creature, but it's flesh resists the little dino's teeth. (Hit, but negated by DR)
