Pitbull is running with a +8 check on DD, Happy for Garox to have a shot at it though. One caveat, as a standard process, no one searches for a trap/opens an item/picks a lock/disables device when any other party member is within 10' Lets just have one person blow themselves up if it goes bad :P

![]() |

I'll gladly accept any help looking for traps and any guidances in helping disable traps. You could also try to assist me with DD as well for a +2 which would be great in case we find them. Really ups the chance of successful disablement

![]() |

And with a +8 on her check it will be hard for her to fail an assist :) Two 'Rogues', what were the odds?!

GM Crash |

Alright, since majority rules...
As soon as Pitbull reaches the bottom of the stairs, a magical darkness falls on the stairwell. All the light spells go dark and the torch has no effect.
CMB: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Valandil: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Pitbull: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Grigori: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Garox: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Creature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Round 1
Garox, Creature, Nesterok, Grigori, Zanaver, Valandil, and Pitbull.

![]() |

Valandil tries to restart his magic light.
Can I make a spellcraft check to identify a darkness spell?

![]() |

"Whats happening, who turned off the lights!"
I might hear the commotion but Garox has no idea whats going on so he delays, maybe someone will tell him what to do. I think the knowledge arcana is to identify the monster attacking us.

![]() |

I'm badly hurt guys ! I will gladly accept any help ! said Nesterok
He call for a bit of luck swift action Archeologist luck and tried to avoid the grapple of the creature standard action
CMB with Archeologist Luck: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 2 = 17
Know. Arcana: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 1 + 2 = 19
Nesterok after saying what he saw run for his life and moved away in the room where are the other taking an AoO if needed

![]() |

"галерка Выше и ниже!" the priest exclaims in his strange native tongue. "What is happening Nesterok? What is hurting you? I see nothing in this darkness."
Grigori holds until Nesterok says more... all he knows is that he hears struggling nearby, and that Nesterok is badly hurt, but not by what or whom.

![]() |

"Some trouble huh, I'll get it"
Pitbull advances and attacks.
Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12

![]() |

"Pull back out of the darkness. I cannot help you in there."
Says Valandil, backpeddling up the stairs until he can restart his lights.

GM Crash |

Round 1 (partial)
Garox delays.
The darkmantle grapples with Nesterok and constricts him.
Nesterok broke out of the grapple, identifies it, then tries to run but gets knocked out instead.
Grigori delays.
Valandil should go down the stairs instead, otherwise you will draw an AoO from the darkmantle. It will also be out of the range of the spell, too.
Pitbull advances on the creature and strikes it for 12 damage while standing over Nesterok's body.
Round 1
Garox, Creature, Nesterok (-4), Grigori, Zanaver, Valandil, and Pitbull.
The delayers this round are Garox and Grigori. Zanaver and Grigori should act now, and Garox can act for two rounds.

![]() |

Garox will listen as to where this monster is supposed to be after he heard Nesterok cry for help and then go down.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
I think that should be enough to pinpoint its location from the noise
Moves up to its position and try to hit it with his sap.
attackroll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
miss I guess
He will 5-foot step the round after in order to start moving into a flanking position and attack again.
attackroll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

nonlethal dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4
sneak if applicable: 1d6 ⇒ 5
free intimidate check from enforcer, # rounds shaken = dmg of hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Garox manages to poke the monster in a sensitive spot even though he cannot see it and manages to scare it a little. He looks quite fearsome in the darkness with his awesome mohawk!
"Haha not so scary now, eh! You weak ass pansy popsicle!"

![]() |

Or use the withdraw action...

GM Crash |

Because Pitbull is in front of the darkmantle, the only way to deal damage to it is to be behind the creature. The staircase is only wide enough for single file so Garox would be unable to attack it without going through Pitbull's and the darkmantle's spots. I will save those rolls though for when you can attack.
And for Nesterok...since I am trying to help, I will allow that roll and Nesterok will not get hit for the 6 damage, but I will also save those rolls for the first person who fails an acrobatics check.:)
Nesterok and the darkmantle are both looking bad, but Nesterok has escaped from it.

![]() |

dang they were such nice rolls :)

![]() |

Urm could I tumble past them on stairs? I know it is possible normally but with difficult terrain rules I'm not sure how they interact.

GM Crash |

After further consideration, I don't think you would be able to get past them. You need people to clear out of the stairwell. Tumbling requires you to go half speed and difficult terrain counts as two squares. For you to tumble in difficult terrain would possibly take 4 squares, if I did my math right.

![]() |

Would I be able to do it as a full turn? I have 12 squares of movement, first one I can go in normally so that is 2 squares, then the two tumbles which add up to 8 for both I would be left with 2 squares of movement. If the tumble check is higher then its cmd +5 I should be able to tumble past him. What do you think? Though maybe it's already dead before I get there :P.

![]() |

here goes nothing
mega super awesome blind tumble balooza: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
omg so lucky :D

GM Crash |

Garox rolls past Pitbull and the darkmantle smoothly. Then he strikes it with his sap, knocking it to the ground.
Combat over!
As soon as the darkmantle hits the ground, the darkness goes away and the light spells that Valandil cast earlier come back on. The party moves into the room and see that old carvings cover the walls of this square chamber, thick with dust and cobwebs. Three sets of stone double doors stand in the three facing walls. Heavy bronze seals emblazoned with the symbol of Pharasma secure the doors against whatever lies beyond.
Let me know what you want to do.

![]() |

"I did not actually kill the creature. I did not know what attacked us and was hoping it could give out some information. But looking at it. It's just a random monster trying to nibble on poor Nesterok's head" Garox says with his head shaking in disappointment.
"I will put it out of its misery. We don't want it attacking us from behind."
Garox takes his short sword and sticks the creature two times to make sure it stays down (coup de grace).
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Garxos is too distracted by the creature to notice the writings on the wall.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Thanks all ! This creature was a dangerous foe, hopefully I could see in the dark and able to flee its tentacles !
After thanking his comrades Nesterok draw his wand and began to heal himself.
Oh ! Did you see theses writings ? They seems newer than the other ?

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Pitbull watches Garox finish the job, as she had the same thought in mind.
"Ugly thing" she thinks out loud as she pokes it with her sword examining it.

Valandil looks at the runes, sharing what he learns of them.
know-history: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
He then goes over to examine the dead beast. "How facinating. A creature that eliminates natural and magical light. I wonder how it came about, and if that is what has been eating the bodies. I also wonder how it got in here."
Just got my 'Confirmation' Chronicle, and as I get a nify wayfinder, I've changed out the 'light' spell for 'message'. I hope that is okay.

Zanaver Silverkin |

Zanaver struggles up after being unconscious for a long period of time during combat. He looks astounded at the creature on the ground.
"What is. this. disgrace to mother nature."
Zanaver expresses a barely disguised disgust as he looks down upon the foul thing
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
"Hmm, strange these markings upon this wall.

![]() |

"So, which way first, Pathfinders?"
Valandil goes up to each set of doors and listens/looks at each to see if he can get an idea what might be the other side.

Grigori pinches his nose in slight disgust, "Uy, it is most hideous. What... was it?"
Shrugging at Valandil's queries, "It is a mystery to me. But perhaps it was our killer." Looking down the corridor, "Or... perhaps not. We shall see"
Observing the graffiti pointed out by the others, "Well well, what have we here?" Reading it, he remarks, "Seems to me that maybe someone is down here with us. And maybe they've been down here a little... too long."
Fr. Yefimovich raises his free hand as he enters the square chamber. Gesturing, he mutters a few esoteric syllables. He then looks around at the symbols on the walls, the doors, and the Pharasmin bronze seals...
What does Grigori know about any religious or ritualistic meaning behind the wall symbols?
Knowledge(religion): 10 + 5 = 15
Grigori casts detect magic and scans the entire square chamber. He will maintain it for at least three rounds to pinpoint the strength and number of auras, but will immediately say whether it's magical or not.

![]() |

Pitbull, now convinced the thing is quite dead, gets a good whiff of it… pausing to pick up parts and smell them as a bloodhound getting a scent trail to follow.

![]() |

"Let me just inspect those doors for a bit, it seems that big doors like these might be trapped." Garox moves over to the doors and studies them closely with a pair of small goggles on his nose.
trapfinding: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
think I am all out of 20's now :P

GM Crash |

Grigori can only tell that the wall symbols are more historic than religious or ritualistic. The only sources of magic are the three door seals maybe with an arcana knowledge check you can find out what type of seals they are of overwhelming strength.
Pitbull follows the trail about halfway up the staircase (about 30 ft) to a very small gap between the stairs and the wall, too small for any of them to be able to fit in...
There are no traps on the doors. Taking 20 perception on the doors reveals them not to be locked, but unable to open.

![]() |

Valandil also inspects the magical seals, trying to work out what they are.

![]() |

"Well there don't seem to be any traps on it. It also isn't locked but I can't get it open using normal means. Maybe some divine intervention is stopping us from continuing." Garox jokes.

![]() |

"Where is a gnome or halfling when you need one." Garox jokes.
"So how do we get beyond this door guys? We haven't tried brute force yet..."

![]() |

Valandil gestures to the chime. "Perhaps this is required for opening the doors. Although I would have thought the priest would have mentioned that to us..."
Slightly confused. Did we come down the stairs to begin with? But we missed the halfling sized hole? Was that when the darkness came upon us?

GM Crash |

Yes. Don't worry about the gap though, it is not important. And I'm pretty sure the priest did mention what the chime is for.
"This is a chime of opening. The person to use this can open the Pharasmin seals down below. But be warned." she holds up a finger. "There are only 5 uses left on this, and one must be left to get back here because none of our clerics will open the door for you, just in case you have been turned into a mindless undead or being impersonated. If you lose the chime or use it up, you will have to find your own way back."
