The axe within reach of the door is what looks like the result of what would happen if someone capable in wood-making decided "I want to take my awesome hatchet and just affix a second hatchet blade onto the other side." It's incredibly well-worn on the handle area, though you can see flecks of red paint still on it.

GM Burglar |

In round 4 (the round we are going into in which you're grabbing the axe from the doorway), the flames that already were cause 2d6 damage to pass through and all adjacent squares catch fire do 1d6 fire. Before, I just had you guys running around the table to avoid damage. spreads right as Baz exits with grits.
Baz, your most direct path to rescuing the body look like Round 5: "Move forward, grab table-side." Round 6: "Drag entire table + body out."
You would take 1d6 per square (individually, for resistance purposes), plus another one for ending a turn in one. This totals at 6d6. Do you accept the charges?
Alternatively, that table leg is wood, and you have this fancy, new woodsman's axe...

![]() |

Harboth is also interested in said axe, so perhaps we could split up the gathering of things? Also, note that
You would take 1d6 per square (individually, for resistance purposes)
so it looks like, rather than 6d6, you would take (2d6 - resistance) + (1d6 - resistance)+ (1d6 - resistance)+ (1d6 - resistance)+ (1d6 - resistance). that could end up being more like 1 or 2d6 total. Just sayin'.

GM Burglar |

Harboth is correct in that assertation, though it is 1d6 for each instance 6 times.. You know the flames will start taking a toll on the structure at some point, just not precisely when. Mire is nowhere to be seen. Item list and magic ness will be posted when I am not busy installing a printer.

Doh! For some reason when I read that, I was thinking GM already was factoring in resistance. So maximum damage taken could only be 6 pts, right? As far as the axe, Baz already has it outside. (Silver Crusade is working with Andoran on this Faction Mission).
With the fire reflecting eerily off is eyes, Baz screams, Sarenrae protect me! and dashes back into the inferno to drag the dead man and the table back outside.
Fire Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 4, 4, 2) = 21
So...Baz takes no fire damage, right?
Edit: If the first one is 2d6, then Baz would take 3 pts damage.

GM Burglar |

There is a brook nearby. It does not provide enough water to substantially help putting out the hut before it burns to the ground, though it will be usable for preventing a forest fire. All Baz's damage is in 1d6 increments, so no damage; just a cool backdrop.
---
Within another 30 seconds, the house collapses in on itself into a smoking heap!
We should be out of inits now, since there's nothing of major value in the house and the magic items aren't going to help here.
The bag, given a minute of identifications, potion of barkskin +2, a potion of bear’s endurance, two scrolls of lesser restoration, amulet of natural armor +1 and a pouch druid-y knicknacks and baubles with 240 gp.

![]() |

What is problem with the man on table? How did he die?
He looks at the items.
Those scrolls could be very useful - do we let a warrior wear the amulet or one of those less protected?
My AC is not where I want it for a warrior - that would help some but I am cool with whatever the party decides. I should be clear to get my mithril armour after this game

@Baz: Hemzel’s journal is written in pidgin shorthand of Taldane and some unidentifiable language (for the party as a whole). Make a Linguistics, please, unless you're gonna magic through this one.
@Kyo: Additionally, the atomie half-body's bag you passed earlier also detects magic, since you're now detecting that.

Kyoshiro pulls a scroll of Comprehend languages and uses it.

GM Burglar |

Anyone got Heal for Hemzel death IDing?
Are you guys putting out the fire at the hut, or do I need to send Awakened Bears to talk to you?

Kyoshiro translates for the group.
"The lorestone is keyed to druidic circles, and one lies several hours’ travel north from the hut on a lake island. Lately (when the journal was written,) a band of fey has recently been harassing Hemzel and threatening to destroy the lorestone Hemzel assiduously avoided exposing the lorestone to sunlight, because the sun’s rays striking the lorestone inside of a druidic circle disintegrates it."

Baz begins looking for a bucket or some other form of container to carry water from the brook to put out the cabin fire. As he moves away, he calls over his shoulder to Chelsea. There's some kinda furry ball in the sack. Probably another rat like the other one had.

Harboth and Grits join Kyoshiro in the lead. As Kyo eyes his wayfinder, Harboth watches their surroundings for other sapient life.

After a few minutes of traveling north, the party reaches a wooded area. Out from the woods comes a high-pitched (but obviously male) hail, laden with of obvious displeasure "Travelers! You have one of the bags Hemzel sews for the fae in the woods, and his hut burned to the south! Explain yourselves!"
Everyone that's not Kyo notices at least two gnomes about.

![]() |

Baz stops short and raises his hands to show they are empty. We were coming to speak with Hemzel and found his hut on fire and under attack. The poor fey who wore the bag is dead I'm afraid. We were also attacked by the creatures and defeated them. They were some sort of humanoid. We were told by another fey that this is the machinations of the Count.

Kyoshiro speaks as well. He strokes his Wayfinder, triggering it before he speaks. Guidance.
We did as best we could but he was long gone. We also stopped the fire from spreading into the woods further - we are innocent of any wrongdoing against this Hemzel and seek only parlay.

Harboth does his best to look non-threatening. He pets Grits and whispers to whomever is close enough (Kyo?), I see eight of them.
He looks around at the gnomes, hoping to gauge their mood and intentions.

Friends, Fey, Adventurers, Lend me your ears - for I have come here to talk to Hemzel, not to burn him out
Sorry - just couldn't resist

GM Burglar |

After everyone chimes in, a gnome riding a badger exits his hiding spot into plain view. "If that's the case, Pathfinders, then why are you leaving his hut in company with a woman whose clothes depict an affinity for such blazes? Explain yourselves."
If you want a map, I might be able to conjure some time to make one up. Season Zero, everybody!

![]() |

Baz nods in deference to the gnome. Clothes do make the woman so to speak and this one is a trusted companion. If you do not believe us, investigate the wreckage of the hut. You will find the bodies of the two who are responsible...the two that we put an end to their evil ways.

No problems, haha. She specializes in burning things, that would be said with a tinge of disappointment.
"Please don't insult me. If that had been my doing it would have been much more... explosive. We ran into another fey before we even got to the hut that knows of our intentions. You should probably talk to her if you want a neutral parties' assessment of the situation."
