"Bein sûr. If that hooded woman yet lives, we needs must end her life to put these unquiet spirits to rest," Mavaro suggests, "If le crétin, Erasmus, can find some way to confront her with the haunt within him, then perhaps this will be our way to put this same haunt to rest. First, though, we should explore further. Of course, Erasmus may have some problems actually doing any of this because he is apparently now possessed. Quelle catastrophe."

Yoon gasps as she recognizes the hooded woman. "it... It... It's her! The waitress at the bar!"

Mavaro |

"I quite agree," Mavaro says, apparently to the skull he still holds aloft, before turning to Yoon, "Young one - Yoon, is it? - Mother Wren is impressed with your memory, as am I. Perhaps if I had been less focused on le vin, then I would not have missed that detail. Bien joué!"
Mavaro pops the skull of Mother Wren back in a pouch and unconsciously strokes his ample belly, "I still think we ought to move along first, before confronting this waitress... or whoever she may in reality be. Allons-y?"

![]() |

"Yes, let's. I'm worried about mister Erasmus.... What do you think will happen?"
-Posted with Wayfinder

Mavaro |

"Moi aussi, ma petite. He will either get it under control, die horribly or it will leave him eventually," says Mavaro a little callously, "But I sincerely doubt it will possess him forever. If he cannot answer, then there really is only one way to find out: attendre."
Actually, does anyone have a way of boosting Erasmus's next will saving throw? I have resistance, but it won't stack with his cloak.

GM_TheBobJones |

Ok, so all that was round 1, I get to control Erasmus for at least another 9 rounds, oh brother.
"You are all fools, if you choose death that is your fault. I am dead, so it matters not. Let her play cruel games with you."
Erasmus begins to descend the Moongate stairs.
Party is up

"Do you think a healing portion will make him better?" Yoon asks quizzically. She pulls one out of her pack and tries to offer it to Erasmus.

I cast Guidance on him...that's about all I can offer at the moment.
Estra steps back, scratching her head helplessly. She turns to the others, eyebrow arching at the skull Mavaro holds in his hand. She then turns to Yoon. "Perhaps that will help...who knows? If we knew the manner of his affliction, perhaps we could assist better, but he among us is best-versed in these things."

Meligaster |

"Just how old was this waitress?? This happened 90 years ago..."
How would spells like charm person work on this situation? Can we charm our possessed ally? Plus, Meligaster and Rivani can affect undead with their mind-affecting spells... We are very low on positive energy, I think we barely have the items for our own healing. So our best bet would be to find out this haunt's vulnerability. Erasmus could also damage it, but well, he's not in control :) Can anyone grab and pin him?
As he stated earlier, haunts are not exactly Meligaster's speciality. He was counting on Erasmus' talents, but that plan fell short. Fighting doesn't quite work, the halfling suspects poking Erasmus to death would just release the haunt to cause havoc with the rest of the group. He remembers there was some ways to destroy a haunt, related to the event that created it in the first place. Keeping his distance, the halfling starts speaking to Erasmus, who is the haunt (addressing him a lady makes Meligaster giggle a little).
"Oh, my lady, please do not be so hasty to depart, and deprive us of your company. We travelled from faraway lands to aid you, so let us help. Who is this 'her' you speak of? Tell us, and we'll take care of her."
While waiting for an answer, he turns to Mavaro, whispering: "Hey, if this work... You're the big man of the group, grab the guy before he runs off and gets himself killed"

Mavaro |

"Va bien, an excellent suggestion," Mavaro agrees. The big man takes up position near Erasmus and makes ready to grab him, "This is easier if two of us do it, you know. If he tries to move again, let's stop him. Prêt?"
Mavaro manfully grabs Erasmus and tries to hold him tight.
Also hoping for at least a +2 on this with help from my companions.

Unfortunately, a lot of Rivani's things seem to take a minute to work! Either that, or she can do damage. I am also pretty sure that my first idea, levitating Erasmus, wouldn't work.
Rivani watches the situation, and realizes that this would be a perfect time to learn about the interactions with the haunt's spirit and Erasmus.
She will use the spell Command while pumping Mindtouch through it (1 phrenic pool) so that she can read surface thoughts. (Will DC 16 for command)
"Halt!"
Once she has the mindtouch working (if) she will ask, "Who are you, and why are you still here? How may we put you to rest?" while reading surface thoughts to see what it is thinking.

Did Erasmus deal the 3d6 daamge to the haunt that his Haunt Channeler would let him do?

GM_TheBobJones |

Before making the semi-ultimate sacrifice, Erasmus reaches out and touches the apparition. The assembled Pathfinders see the image flicker before returning to full sight. Almost instantly, the image vanish in a cyclone of ectoplasmatic energy, the spinning vortex connects to Erasmus' open mouth and spins into it. Staggering back, their friend looks at them with unfamiliar eyes.

Currently
Unaccustomed to the freedom of being both alive and ambulatory, the Haunt/Erasmus turns and begins to 'walk' away. A normal gait consists of alternating thrusts and extensions of opposite sides of a person's body. The New Erasmus however seems to have forgotten that momentarily. He shuffles sideways by extending a foot, then dragging on behind. The pushing out with a hand, before extending the foot once again. Combined with the ill effects of the exhaustion spell, and the now heavy burden he needs to carry, Erasmus manages only to make it a few gliding feet before Mavaro extends one hand and places it on his shoulder. The new weight proves too much and now Erasmus is anchored to his spot.
While the Pathfinders discuss possible remedies for him, Erasmus waits in painful silence.

bugger, I was hoping he would fail. There were so many cool RP ideas I had for you all, oh well Chris Lockwood, welcome back

Mavaro |

When Ersasmus stops his stilted struggling, Mavaro lets go of him and observes for a while.
"So, M'sieur Intelligence Supériure, exactly what did you have planned for this petite haunt that we have here?" Mavaro raises an eyebrow at Erasmus, "Or did you think you would just want to wing it and see what happened?" The disdain in Mavaro's voice is evident.

![]() |

"That isn't going to happen to me will it?" The child says with a trace of fear in her voice.
I'll just burn everything if that tries to happen again, that always works, doesn't it Gom Gom?
"Well at least we have the first clue as to what happened here! I wonder if there is any more information on the way of the kirin group in here..."
Yoon's mind, much like a child, is prone to distraction, and her absurdly optimistic outlook prevents her from being bothered by the scary ghosts for too long.
"I wonder why the waitress would want to kill the people in this house. What if she was part of the aspis consortium, or the golden order, and didn't like that the lady of the house wanted to be friends with the kirin people?" Yoon continues to theorize as she flips her stuffed owl up in the air, playing catch with herself.
You are such a good flyer Gom Gom. I wonder if there are any ghost mice in here for you to chase...

![]() |

Rivani was hoping to read the thoughts of the haunt, who is currently controlling the body and mind of Erasmusm, but I guess it doesn't matter now? :D
"Interesting. Yoon, I don't think that will happen to you, but we should be prepared for anything. I was hoping to be able to question the apparition, but apparently I was too late for that. "
Did I cast the spell, or not? If so, do I get the chance to interview her?

GM_TheBobJones |

[ooc]Rivani - not sure you can read the mind of the haunt, as it has no mind. I did not charge you with a casting nor a Phrenic point.[/oo]

"If you don't like how it turned out, Mavaro," the man bends forward, and coughs a few times. "... I'll let you step up and take the next one." He takes a moment and wipes the remains of spittle from the corner of his mouth.
"From what I can see, it didn't hurt anyone else," Erasmus says coldly.
"It may be painful, emotionally excruciating even, but I am used to being followed by spirits. It's why I am here... If I can deal with them, even if it takes its toll on me, then you are saved the struggle."
For a moment Erasmus looks past Mavaro, into a place no-one is standing, then shakes his head slowly and shrugs his shoulders as if in reply to words than have gone unsaid. Then he turns away from Mavaro and prepares to take his place in line with the others.

![]() |

"But how did it feel, Erasmus? What was it like consuming such a thing?"
Though Rivani has neither pen nor parchment out, she looks like she is recording everything being said.

GM_TheBobJones |

Welcome back Erasmus, remember that you are Exhausted until you get 1 hour of rest

![]() |

"I kind of hope there isn't any more of those... you look tired Erasmus. But if there are, maybe we will find out more about what happened. Especially since no one in town wanted to talk about it..."
"Wh.. who wants to open the front door?"

![]() |

"Why, Erasmus, you seem quite... peaked. Do you need some rest? I have a potion of lesser restoration, which might make you feel a little better... oh, sorry, you seem to have dropped yourself there a moment... let me help you up." Rivani seems quite at a loss on how to deal with the now nackered medium. "I believe a pair of lesser restoration spells would heal you from this condition... or just a full night's sleep.
"What? We don't have time for that? I thought that the place has been around for 90 years like this. Was I mistaken?"

![]() |

The older woman sighs, looking to her not-quite-alive counterpart, Honaire, with a long-suffering gaze, before turning to address the others. "Perhaps Erasmus just needs a bit of time to collect himself. If he hasn't recovered sufficiently from his ordeal in say, an hour or so, then we can go back to town and rest or use those potions you spoke of, Rivani."
She turns back to Honaire. "Young people these days..." Of course, the spirit guardian stands vigilantly by her, remaining silent.

Meligaster |

"Unfortunately your condition is of a kind which Doctor Meligaster cannot fix. Never considered very sensible to learn remedies for something one can get over with by just a little nap. Very hard to make profit with that." Meligaster says, after spending a moment studying Erasmus.
"So... Hours rest, and then we're perhaps good to go. Or will that haunt thing came back soon?"
Meligaster can remove confused, dazed, fascinated, frightened, shaken, or sickened condition. But no exhausted, unfortunately

Mavaro |

"Je suis desolé, Erasmus, I am truly sorry," Mavaro places a gentle hand on his shoulder, "Merci for taking this upon yourself. What happens to le haunt now? Is it defeated or will it return? Also, I would suggest you take Mademoiselle Rivani's potion so we can move on at full strength. If we need more, we can always buy some at the local temple."
Speaking of full strength...

Invigorated by the magic of undeath, Mavaro moves forwards into the house, eyes scanning for any items that may tell more of the tale that the haunt began.
I say drink the potion now and pawn our stuff for more later. Not like we paid for anything on these character sheets. :-)

![]() |

Remember, he'll still be fatigued, but at least not exhausted. If we waited for just an hour for him to rest, the potion would bring him to full.
"I think perhaps Estra has it right. We rest here for an hour... and then Erasmus can drink my potion. That should fix him right up. Perhaps one of us can remain with him to observe, while the rest of you check out the grounds. If you find anything, just yell, and we'll come running."

![]() |

The portion would be pointless since he only needs to rest an hour to be back to normal, if I read it correctly. I don't care either way, but my vote is drink the potion and move on. We will be fine :)

Mavaro |

Tiring of the bickering, Mavaro pushes open the front door and steps inside.
"Rest for an hour if you want, mes frêles," snorts Mavaro from within the threshold, "But I would not recommend doing so around here. Perhaps sleep in your nice cozy bed back at the inn. Maybe you could talk to the woman who caused this haunt in the first place. Personally, I prefer bold action. Alors! What have we here?"
Mavaro allows his eyes to adjust to the darkness (he has darkvision) and peers around.

GM_TheBobJones |

As Mavaro pushes his way into the house, he sees that the walls of this large, L-shaped room are painted with depictions of soldiers and samurai in battle against the armies of nobles and daimyos, while receiving the adoration of peasants and common people. Little furniture is to be found, but a once ornate wood-and-paper folding room divider lies in a broken ruin in the southeast corner. Metal hanging lanterns have been torn from the ceiling and now lie in ruins on the wood floor. Several ceremonial weapons have been pulled from the walls and discarded.

Mavaro's palms begin to turn clammy, his back breaks out with cold sweat, a sense of dread envelops him likes a cold blanket ...

And then the feeling passes as quickly as it came. Yet some lingering resonance remains.
Mavaro is now Shaken for Rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Mavaro |

A small puddle appears beneath Mavaro. Oh, how embarrassing... at least it's dark in here. He pulls out a wineskin, hands trembling and spilling much over his front and the floor, concealing what has occurred. He swigs some for added fortitude, but is no better off than before.
"Regarder dehors!" cries Mavaro as the others consider coming in also, "It... it... it's a l-l-little freaky in here."
Slowly, Mavaro approaches the discarded ceremonial weapons.
If nothing more bad happens, I'll try to get a reading from some items in the room. 2 rounds isn't that long, so I'm assuming something bad will happen before he gets a chance. If not.. let me know!
Ah, it seems like no matter which character I play, I play an incautious trap-springer.

![]() |

Its more fun that way!
Yoon enters the room cautiously when the normally brash Mavaro seems a bit shaken.
Gom Gom will keep me safe. Or burning stuff will keep me safe…
With a deep breath, she follows the overweight man to help inspect the broken things, starting with the metal lanterns.

Getting ready to enter the house, the woman begins to mutter and chant for a fair amount of time, causing a shimmering field of force to surround both herself and Honaire, and then casting another spell upon herself to bolster her defenses.
With that being done, she follows the others cautiously into the House, peering about.

Mavaro, I assume you want to use your Object Reading (Su). That will take 1 minute.
Mavaro, still shaken from his frightening entrance, picks up one of the weapons that has fallen to the ground. Turning it over in his hands, he makes a large, showy gesticulation, closes his eyes and begins to hum, all to no avail. Alas, the weapon is just an ordinary weapon in a not so ordinary house.
Yoon and Estra follow the portly man into the Hall but do not experience anything like what Mavaro experienced.
It wasn't a trap, but a HOG mechanic. Love how paranoid this is making all of you. Mwhahahah!

![]() |

Estra patiently waits as Mavaro provides a show, then sighs gently as it all proves for naught. Her ectoplasmic companion blinks out of existence, appearing right next to the older woman. She gestures to the door directly in front of her. "My friends, shall we continue?"
If there are no objections, Honaire opens the door.

Mavaro |

Correct, GM, object reading. Sorry, would have said but didn't expect to get to use it so soon!
"Do not sneer, Estra," Mavaro says, dusting himself off and walking over to the door, "Even a lack of information tells us something. Those weapons have not been used for at least four days, these items have no historical significance - they are only well-crafted ceremonial weapons. So, whoever made this mess did not have occasion to use the weapon. C'est bon, non?"
Mavaro peers into the room, "Mes amis, if we are expecting danger, I have a means to peer into rooms without us physically having to go in there. It will last about seven minutes, give or take. Just let me know if you would like something like that. Of course, I suspect some of you may be able to peer into rooms yourselves, oui? Not to mention, if Honaire goes, well, it's not as if a real person is being endangered."
And then you might not suffer any more... malfunctions, Mavaro.
"Who said that?"

Mavaro |

"A likely story! Hmmph."

GM_TheBobJones |

The Pathfinders emerge into the next room. The ceiling of this large spacious area extends two stories high, with staircases on the north and south walls leading to an overlooking balcony. A rock garden dominates the center of the room; a large wooden frame filled with clean sand and large stones, moss, and pruned trees. Adding to sense of luxury, paintings and woodcuts adorn the eastern wall. A balcony on the second floor overlooks the garden from the east side. On the ground floor there is no exterior western wall; rather, it opens out to a wooden porch and another outdoor garden.

Captivated by the exquisite gardening, Yoon hurries over to the tranquil sand pit and delicately pruned trees.
She runs her fingers through the sand, reminding her if her grandmother and the time she spent pruning and taking her own tranquil garden. Then suddenly stops short, screwing her face up in confusion.
"who keeps this garden so neat, if no one has been here for 92 years?"
Suddenly more curious, she looks around for anything else that catches her eye, and listens for more sounds of ghosts and haunts.

Mavaro |

Do we know where the noises are coming from (eg. upstairs, which room, etc)?
"Sshh, ma petite," Mavaro whispers, holding a finger up to his mouth and slowly drawing his sword, "I do not think we are alone."

GM_TheBobJones |

In the description of the room, there are stairs that lead up to a second floor. Not sure if that is clear on the map or not. The rooms to the east that are currently spoilered are 1st floor, 2nd floor rooms are directly above them and are currently not displayed on the tactical map. To answer your question, you are certain that the noises are coming from the 2nd floor.

![]() |

Yoon quickly hushes, hunching her shoulders and ducking her head, looking about her in the natural reaction most humans give when being told to be quiet.
Fire dances across her fingertips as her senses are heightened, trying to keep herself from being spooked.
"upstairs?" she whispers before taking the set of stairs closest to her. Assuming no one stops her...

![]() |

Estra nods to her companion, Honaire rushing forward to provide cover for Yoon as she starts to ascend the stairs, looking for the source of the giggling. The old woman sighs again, always a bit flabbergasted by the impatience of the young.
"Can your sense look through ceilings as well, Mavaro? Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what awaits as our companions rush towards it?"

Mavaro |

"Oui, upstairs," Mavaro says quietly back to Yoon and the rest of the crew, "I have an idea that should enable us to continue to look around down here while still keeping an eye out upstairs... if you catch my meaning!" Mavaro suppresses a chuckle at some unknown joke.
Producing a spoon from his pocket, Mavaro very carefully gouges out his left eye - much to everyone's disgust. Suddenly, the eye starts floating and looking about. Expecting perhaps a gout of blood, the companions look back at Mavaro only to see that he still has two eyes in his head and a big grin on his face.
Mavaro moves very slowly towards the next door, allowing Honaire to lead the way once more. Every moment or so, he takes the time to concentrate and direct the eye to its next location. For the beginning, at least, the eye flies up the first set of stairs and out of sight.
Until something happens, Mavaro will be using his move action to move, standard action to direct the eye (60ft per round). I've marked its location on the tactical.

"Shouldn't we wait for Erasmus to rest? It seems foolish to barrel ahead like a half-Orc worshiper of Kurgess. I believe we will need his prowess before we finish here."
While Mavaro plays with his eye, Rivani will cast Augury. "Will not allowing Erasmus to rest be a good or bad idea?" 77% chance of success, GM

Meligaster |

"A moment of your time, monsieur Mavaro. Would you kindly look at this pocket watch for a moment", Meligaster says, producing a beautifully crafted time-piece from his pocket, and starts slowly swinging it by the attached chain. "You too, Rivani... Follow the watch closely, follow its movement...
"Feel your eyelids getting heavier..."
"And heavier...
"You can close your eyes now, and just concentrate on my voice..."
"Next time, when you're attacked..." the halfling voice begins, but the rest goes blurry for the two listeners for a moment and then they are awaken again with the same voice: "...and you can open your eyes know. We're done here"
Both have an odd feeling of losing a few moments of their time, but otherwise feeling very good.

Eivani can hear nothing from the beyond. Whether it is the strange presences in this house that are interfering, or if the spirits do not know, she is left to deal with the situation using only her intuition.

Mavaro |

Rivani, I thought he was going to take the potion and just be fatigued. Until we hear back from Erasmus, I figured we'd push on (since that's what he was doing in his last post).
"I do seem to be picking up some residual half-orc energy here, très mystérieux," agrees Mavaro, "But given the sounds upstairs, I think it would be wise to investigate before whoever is making them leaves. I've got my eye on the situation upstairs now, so perhaps we'd be best served simply searching below before doing anything as rash as resting. Erasmus can perhaps take his leave in the garden while we open the doors surrounding it. D'accord?"
Mavaro eyes Meligaster suspiciously, but has faith that the half-man only means well for the party.
Vote for looking around down here while the mind eye lasts (7 minutes) and can keep Mavaro apprised of anything approaching from up there. Erasmus can rest if he wants, but fatigued isn't so bad... happens to barbarians all the time.

GM_TheBobJones |

Erasmus can rest if he wants, but fatigued isn't so bad... happens to barbarians all the time.
Nope, not Fatigued, but Exhausted unless I missed something someone did? Exhausted: An exhausted character moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. After 1 hour of complete rest, an exhausted character becomes fatigued. A fatigued character becomes exhausted by doing something else that would normally cause fatigue.
