GM Bird's Depths of War

Game Master Radidast

And the discussion is open!

I'll be waiting for everyone to check in over the next day or so (and writing the first post) before I go into too much detail. In the mean time if you have any questions for me feel free to ask!

Hey! I'm glad I made it so far as to be selected, I will cook the full build and alias tonight (which in my timezone means in a couple hours) and post right ahead.

If any of the other players want to co-ordinate skills to cover as broad as possible while still being in character choices, please suit yourselves. But keep in mind Ssekhith is a barbarian, so Perception, Intimidate and Survival are a must.

M Pseudodragon [ HP: 29/29 | AC: 18 | T: 14 | FF: 16 | Fort +3 / Ref +7 / Will +8 | Init +2 / Percept +10+1d6 (Blindsense 60, Darkvision 60, Low-Light) ]

Thanks for the selection!

I need to finish up Traits and a couple of other small things, but I'll be ready by tonight / tomorrow.

@Emissary: Don't forget you get quite a few skill points to do with what you will. We're using the background skills rules and you get an additional 2 skill points for adventuring skills. I always liked the idea of characters being skilled in and out of battle.

The other characters already have their skills chosen so if you'd like to make yourself versatile in comparison to them feel free. Don't worry to much about not having different skills or overlapping though. With things like aid another, having two people with a skill means being that much more likely to succeed. I've even seen things like friendly rivalries form between two with high survival, always trying to best the other as hunters.

@Azeban: Thank you for joining us!

Okey dokey!
Looking at Azeban's profile I remembered that Boon Companion exist. Would you allow me to pick it instead of Iron Will at level 2 and multiclass a level for now (but up to other 3 else later)?

I was thinking Warder with the Dervish archetype for extra tankiness and mad dual wielding lizardfolk goodness!

I'm pretty sure that's how it is meant to work - I don't think you need to have the companion reduced by all 4 levels before you grab the feat. It should "scale" with you up to the four levels after the feat has been taken. Much the same as you take the trait Magical Knack before you've started multiclassing.

I know, I know! I just meant if he didn't mind me multiclassing hahahaha!

@Emissary: Works for me! Multiclassing is fun because it lets you really flesh out a character. Also I've always really liked the Tome of battle and path of war take on martial characters. So yeah, multiclass away.

Speaking of! If anyone does want to make adjustments now is the time. Once you've got a build nailed down say so and I'll start up the game.

Grand Lodge

Male Lizardfolk, Mad Dog Unchained Barbarian 2 / Dervish Defender Warder 1 HP:47 / 47 || AC 20/ 14 / 18 || F: 9 R: 4 W: 5 || Init: +2 ; Perc: +8 || Maneuvers Readied 3/3

Last question before I finish everything and copy it to the profile!

Would you rather have me using Vanilla or Unchained Barbarian? Both are valid options for Mad Dog archetype, so this is a matter of preference.

@Ssekhith: I'd say it's your choice. I enjoy different things about both and consider each of them a valid take on the barbarian.

Grand Lodge

Sshekhith is finally done! Only remaining thing would be spend 1000 gp, but as a noble savage lizardfolk without knowledge of such fine details as trading, bartering and the value of money I say Ssekhith has a thousand gold pieces worth of assorted stuff: trophies from hunted creatures, trinckets, food, toys and mementos. And shiny rocks! And small gems!

Grand Lodge

Male Shark Animal Companion HP: 30 / 30 || AC 24/ 14 / 21 || F: 5 R: 6 W: 2 || Init: +3 ; Perc: +8 || Maneuvers Readied 3/3

And so is Jawshsh, which deserved its own profile.

Disclaimer: Any and all accusations of this very profile being an excuse to use Sharks' images as profile images would be denied, sued and appropiately summary executed

@Ssekhith: That works! Though I'll need you to either post as Jawshsh for his actions or add his stats to Ssekhith as a spoiler. XD I will, not on purpose, likely forget where they are.

Reg does tend to post a bit later so I'm going to post a few things now for him to reply to when he gets on with Valauthiel.

Each of you will receive a minor bonus of a kind (or already have) that will fit with your backstory. These bonuses aren't going to be the be all end all but they'll be in place of the normal magic item you would normally have acquired by this point in your adventures. They are also to reward you for fan-fricking-tastic character concepts.

Azeban: Your bonus is the new and improved Octupus, for making igeia such an interesting character. She also gets the improved 4th lvl advancement I sent to you.

Ssekhith: Your bonus is two fold. First your character is pretty much what I envision of a 'Blessed One', touched by a more primal god. So you get 'Blessed Resistance: You have acid resistance 5, cold resistance 5, and electricity resistance 5.'

And when you hit fourth level and your shark gets his Animal Companion advancement, he will also gain the powerful bite ability because it's awfully thematic for a shark.

Valauthiel: You will get the Battle Mage feat we discussed as a bonus feat, gaining int to damage on ranged spellcasting. In addition at 4th level she will gain both Hex Magus (Su) and Spell Recall to represent her years of training towards using the blade she now wields. She was more physically inclined originally but learning under her father has, at least in part, given her some skills in magic beyond the norm.

And lastly there is the fourth member of your party played by moi. The party does not have a dedicated healer so the character I'll be taking up will serve as one for the party. I'll be using an archetype I made to make a Healer Cleric a real thing so you guys will get real in combat healing, but the sacrifice the archetype makes to do this means she won't be able to actually do anything to the enemy. Aside from keeping your characters alive to beat them down that is.

Again if there are any questions feel free to ask!

At fourth, you mean, not yet, right?

I had grabbed a wand of Cure Light Wounds, so if you wanted to do something other than be a healer, I think we'd probably be okay. But if not, I can swap it for something else!

I will gladly accept the bonus! Ssekith's one is flavourful and appropiate, while Jawshsh' is a much needed one: to my surprise, shark companions start small and advance to meeium at 4th.
Even if a man-size shark is a dreadful sight, a horse-size or car-size one is awesome.

That said, fast and bitey man-size shark is still superb, so no real complaint.

@Azeban: I'm actually looking forward to testing out the archetype. I've seen a Vitalist used as an in combat healer too and while he did little else he had a blast keeping the party from near death. It probably will need tweaking too. I plan on putting you guys up against hefty odds at times and while smart thinking will get your way out of some of it a fight won't always be avoidable.

@Ssekith: Yeah, one of the downsides of the shark. Though don't worry too much. There are ways to get your shark bigger. Perhaps one of your 'magic items' might come in that form.

Female elf magus (bladebound, hexcrafter) 3:

Checking in. Sorry for the delay.

nice. I'll make the adjustments to the character and build sheets.

I'm good to go.

Wonderful! That is everyone.

@Azeban: The last thing I need you to do is put your stats up like the others have beneath their name. Here's a quick guide I'm borrowing from GM rednal for it.

Organize your quick reference bar - the Gender/Race/Classes part of your alias (they display in that order if you need more room) - with the following format:

Level(s)/Tier | HP: XX/XX | AC: XX / T: XX / FF: XX / DR: X, SR: X, Resist: X, Immune: X | Fort: +X, Ref: +X, Will: +X | M. Atk: +X, R. Atk: +X, M. Touch: +X, R. Touch: +X | CMB: +X, CMD: X | Init: +X, Perception: +X

If there are things you don't use or don't have, such as any elemental resistances, ranged attacks, or non-touch attacks, remove those. CMB and CMD stay. Do not hide this information behind a spoiler tab - that defeats the purpose of a quick-reference bar.

This will let me see what your stats are while we play. I'll be finishing my post. It should come later today after I get food delivered and get to eat. XD Been a few days since I've done that.

M Pseudodragon [ HP: 29/29 | AC: 18 | T: 14 | FF: 16 | Fort +3 / Ref +7 / Will +8 | Init +2 / Percept +10+1d6 (Blindsense 60, Darkvision 60, Low-Light) ]

I should be ready to go, now!

Alright, the first post is up! Thank you all for your patience. It's been a trying few days but now that I have a good source of food again things should get easier.

Alright, I'm going to give Emissary another couple hours to reply and then I'll post.

Alright, we've had a slow start but consistent posting. Lets see if we can get everyone up to one a day! I've been trying to give people leeway time so I can reply all at once but I think I'll start replying when I see a message on the board to see if that helps things.

Grand Lodge

Male Shark Animal Companion HP: 30 / 30 || AC 24/ 14 / 21 || F: 5 R: 6 W: 2 || Init: +3 ; Perc: +8 || Maneuvers Readied 3/3

I'm totally okay with that, it helps keep things moving.

I usually check 3-4 times a day my PbP updates, but now on vacation I can either be out with no data available on my cellphone or being a lazy ass at home.

So between once a day and enough to make you run out of ideas is my average.

@Azeban: Apologies, I thought Ligeia was capable of telepathic communication with everyone. Feel free to ignore that part of the post. XD

M Pseudodragon [ HP: 29/29 | AC: 18 | T: 14 | FF: 16 | Fort +3 / Ref +7 / Will +8 | Init +2 / Percept +10+1d6 (Blindsense 60, Darkvision 60, Low-Light) ]

Oh, nope! it's part of the connection due to her being my familiar. I'm not sure how common telepathy is anyway, and they are trying to not draw tooooo much attention.

That adds an even more interesting dynamic to them. Anything she says will be filtered by Azeban. XD

Sorry about the delay Ssekhith. You posted while I was working on my reply for Azeban so I ended up not noticing it until this morning. XD It's a good thing I double check the threads or I might have missed it again.

As a heads up, I am a relatively new GM, so if anyone has any comments on how I might improve or directions I take with the story feel free to raise them. The goal here is for all of us to have fun writing this story so if I'm missing a detail you want to focus on feel free to let me know!

Silver Crusade

I apologize for my absence. I am currently sick. I hope to be able to play soon.

No worries. I'm going to give players who don't post a week from now before I see about finding replacements. If you think you might be longer let me know and I'll probably just bring in another and run a four person game when you return. If I don't hear any response though I'm going to assume a drop out.

M Pseudodragon [ HP: 29/29 | AC: 18 | T: 14 | FF: 16 | Fort +3 / Ref +7 / Will +8 | Init +2 / Percept +10+1d6 (Blindsense 60, Darkvision 60, Low-Light) ]

Sorry for my delays, I've been on the job hunt so I've been doing interviews and prep and haven't had a ton of time. I'll get a post up today.

Life happens and I get that. I won't kick anyone out of the game that gives me a heads up that things are going to be slow for them. Just need to know so I can plan what to do next.

Ssekhith, you're not kidding there. I've been checking every day and haven't seen any notification about the thread getting posted in. And that means I left Azeban hanging since Saturday! It's really weird. Haven't heard anything from Reg for a week so I'm going to probably go on with the story without him and we'll bring him back in when he comes back. If it goes on for another week I'll also bring someone else in to fill the spot.

M Pseudodragon [ HP: 29/29 | AC: 18 | T: 14 | FF: 16 | Fort +3 / Ref +7 / Will +8 | Init +2 / Percept +10+1d6 (Blindsense 60, Darkvision 60, Low-Light) ]

Yeah the forums seem to be having a lot of hiccups lately.

FYI I'll be away from the 2nd to the 9th because I'll be at GenCon.

Ooooh, nice! Alright.

Been having lotsa problems to connect with Paizo -related to Paizo and outside ones-, solved them all and will post tonight after the "Star Rain".

I'm really sorry for the delay, let's get this back on tracks!
