Azeban:
"Nothing. Though be warned even that information is something you should not have, by the order of the council." Ardonis was technically a soldier of rank within Atlantis. His role as a cleric and high priest gave him several advantages in that regard, but sharing classified information was still a dangerous risk.

"I am certain you would have made it back fine with her help though. In some ways she is limited. In others she is much stronger then you would expect." There was a note of pride as he turned to look at the meditating woman. "Shall I call her over so that you may meet her?"

Ooooh, nice! Alright.

Azeban:
Ardonis raises a brow at Azebans request though it isn't certain if it's because he's surprised by it or trying to decipher it. After a moment he does answer though. "Well... the problem is two fold. The first is that my apprentice, while quite capable, cannot direct her divine magic against anyone seeking to harm her. She can only protect herself and others or heal them."

Such a vulnerability in a cleric was laughable really but Ardonis wasn't done speaking. "I also have reason to believe the necromancer is still in the tomb... and if he managed to find some of those buried you'll be fighting undead beyond the typical. Some of Atlantis' older... heroes were buried there."

Sense Motive DC 15:
Though everything seems to be on the table now it does seem odd that he would hide such important information. He actually looks a little guilty about it too.

Ssekhith, you're not kidding there. I've been checking every day and haven't seen any notification about the thread getting posted in. And that means I left Azeban hanging since Saturday! It's really weird. Haven't heard anything from Reg for a week so I'm going to probably go on with the story without him and we'll bring him back in when he comes back. If it goes on for another week I'll also bring someone else in to fill the spot.

Azeban:
The priest nodded slowly as he listened. They weren't at war with Atlantis but it was widely know that the Deluvian Empire was a militaristic state. It made sense that they'd always be worrying about such things. "I might be able to help with that then. I have need of some assistance for my apprentice over there..."

The priest nodded in the direction of the young merfolk woman who still appeared to be in deep concentration. She had moved several inches from where she had last been simply by way of letting the water move her. "She'll be undertaking a dangerous mission in service to Atlantis. We've gotten strange reports at one of our crypts of undead. The military is currently to occupied dealing with sahaugin raiders to look into it so they asked us..."

"Unfortunately my apprentice, while capable, does have certain... limitations with her blessings. So I'm looking for others to join her just in case the situation is worse then it is. You were seen coming into the city with that weapon and while it could be true that you're simply a man with a blade, you move a bit too well for me to assume that. What do you say? I'm offering five hundred gold up front for accepting and another five hundred for getting her back safe."

Knowledge (Religion) DC 10 - Azeban:
Blibaal has made many enemies over her existence but none are more hated then her brothers and sisters of the Elder Gods. In particular though, both Hades and Poseidon hold a special place, such that priests are trained to scorn the workings of each. For Hades, that means a hatred of undead, for every single one is said to be able to serve as a spy or even conduit for the God of Death and his power. The reason for this hatred is simple. Hades has stolen a piece of Bliball's power over darkness.

Sense Motive DC 15 - Azeban:
A thousand gold is a lot for a supposedly simple job such as this, especially when the church would be providing a cleric to go along with whatever group is formed. The man seems honest but there's definitely something strange about his request and he knows it.

Ssekhith the White:
Ardonis cannot help the smile that stretches across his face, nor hide a bit of relief. "I have spoken to others as well but I worry. Perhaps too much. All the same you have my thanks. She won't be leaving till the morning. Perhaps you'd like to meet her before going to make any preparations you need to make?"

Azeban:
"Really? That is fascinating. You know a Sea Elf hasn't seen a Kua Toa city and returned for nearly 200 years." Though this would have normally been a point of anger there hadn't been any reports of sea elves going to or being taken too a Kua Toa city for over a hundred. Adronis had let go of that anger by this point.

"I wish I could ask you some questions but I imagine you might be uncomfortable near our church. Mira, keep practicing." Ardonis said over his shoulder before gesturing for Azeban to join him a little ways away from the church. "I'm glad you find Atlantis pleasant. Tell me, do you have plans to find work, or do you seek to simply stay for a little while before moving on? I mentioned in my letter I might be able to assist with the former."

Ssekhith the White:
"My apprentice and the third of three clerics, a woman touched by true divinity like myself, is about to go on her first trial. It has been months since she was ready but I cannot simply fabricate problems. Sometimes they simply take that long for one to occur." The man actually smiled at that. A peacekeeper was probably happiest when the peace kept itself.

Then Ardonis's expression turned serious again. "The wait was a blessing in disguise. We have learned that though capable physically, my apprentice cannot harm others with the divine magic given to her. She has a different gift... One that benefits others even more then herself."

"I am seeking individuals of unique skills too assist her in clearing out a tomb that has been invaded by a necromancer. The undead and the necromancer himself are to be slain and if information can be found as to where he learned his magic I will be rewarding those that join her further."

Ardonis stepped over to his desk and opened a drawer, revealing several bags, "I do not know if you have much use for gold or trinkets, but if you were to help my apprentice I would also be more then happy to use my own pull in the courts to assist your own efforts of learning of our culture. I can help you speak to scholars and professors and even access our great library, a rare opportunity for someone who is not a citizen."

"What say you Ssekhith? Will you aid both my apprentice and Atlantis?"

Life happens and I get that. I won't kick anyone out of the game that gives me a heads up that things are going to be slow for them. Just need to know so I can plan what to do next.

No worries. I'm going to give players who don't post a week from now before I see about finding replacements. If you think you might be longer let me know and I'll probably just bring in another and run a four person game when you return. If I don't hear any response though I'm going to assume a drop out.

Ssekhith the White:
"Truly, they nearly drove your kin to extinction?" The man asks as he moves toward the sealed bowl and undoes the seal, letting the scent touch both the lizard folk and the shark. Fresh meat, very rare, much as one might see back at his tribe. Ardonis had either done his research or made a good guess. "And such a marvelous friend too. It is rare to see such dangerous creatures befriended here in Atlantis but I here tell that our ranger core does enjoy the odd friendship here or there."

The sea elf moved back to them with the bowl, setting it down so that Jawshsh could eat at his leisure, and then looked back up to Ssekhith. As far as 'high priests' go Ardonis seemed to be a rather lax one. The shaman of his tribe would have commanded respect. Indeed, the shamans of other tribes he knew would do the same more often then not. Ardonis though seemed to break that mold... Assuming he was to fill the same role that is.

"I admit that my hope for learning is mutual. Despite our many advancements, Atlantis still knows so little of the sea beyond our borders, or even the more wild areas within it. I fear this lack of knowledge could prove dangerous in time. Only our most skilled rangers dare even venture into places like the Kelp Forest or the Depths." Ardonis sighed, but then shrugged away the concern, "Heavy stuff for a first meeting and unfortunately not why I called you here today. I have a favor to ask of you and your friend."

As a heads up, I am a relatively new GM, so if anyone has any comments on how I might improve or directions I take with the story feel free to raise them. The goal here is for all of us to have fun writing this story so if I'm missing a detail you want to focus on feel free to let me know!

Sorry about the delay Ssekhith. You posted while I was working on my reply for Azeban so I ended up not noticing it until this morning. XD It's a good thing I double check the threads or I might have missed it again.

Ssekhith the White:
The high priest in question was a sea elf with sea green scales and long black hair. When Ssekhith entered the smaller room that he sat in the man looked up and immediately gave a broad grin. "Ah! Ssekhith the White! A pleasure to finally meet you."

He stood from the chair he had rested on, another strange piece of furniture, and moved away from the desk carrying the many items underwater writing made necessary. Despite his casual surroundings Ardonis was wearing heavy armor that looked fit to his form. "I was hoping to get a chance to talk to you after you helped our scout party against Sahaugin hunting party they had encountered."

The man was quick to offer a hand to shake. His grip was firm but with no attempt to try and overpower or out squeeze the sturdier looking Lizardfolk. "You have my thanks for helping our warriors. I admit I called you here for more then that, but before I bring up my own interests, is there anything you'd like to discuss?" He released Ssekhith's hand and gestured toward a small bowl with a sealed cover, "Some food, perhaps? I did drag you out rather earlier today."

Azeban:
The young sea elf looks up with surprise at first, glancing between Azeban and the squid nervously. After a moment however he nods slowly. "Yes, of course. You were invited? Must be Ardonis." The priest points around the church too it's side. "He should be around back with Novice Mira."

He pauses to greet another of the people currently entering into the church and then turns his attention back to Azeban. "He's fairly informal about meetings, particularly when he sends out invites, so you're welcome to go and see him right now if you'd like."

Moving away from the crowd and rounding the corner, Azeban is greeted with a strange sight. It's not often that people even register too his extraordinary senses but all three of the creatures around the corner have an aura of good about them. The first two, a Merwoman with unusual silver scales and a tiny creature, both have moderately powerful aura's probably akin to the strength of his and Liegei's aura.

The last one though, a heavily armored sea elf man with greenish grey scales, has a strong aura of good, one that's as powerful or more then the other two combined. Altogether the aura's seem to meld together as if they came from the same being, creating a brief moment where Azeban saw both the people and a cloud of silvery light in the same space. As his mind adjusted he was able to push away the aura's with little trouble, as none of them were overwhelming in power.

The merfolk woman seems to be deep in thought, her eyes closed and her hands clasped before her in an expression of prayer. The armored sea elf was watching her but almost as easily as Azeban was able to spot them he seems to become aware of the Kua Toa. He rises from his spot on the ground and moves around the apparent Novice to greet them.

"Hello there. I am guessing you are the new comer I heard of. Welcome to the Church of Prismire. I am Ardonis, it's high priest. It is a pleasure to meet you." Despite his apparent status the man bows, immediately showing a difference between himself and a Kua Toa priest. No priest of Bliibaal would ever bow to another save the emperor or a higher ranking priest.

Ssekhith the White:
The clawed hands might have originally intimidated him but instead the priest hardly paid them any mind. Instead he gave Ssekhith a surprisingly firm shake for such a lean and simply robed fellow. "It would be my pleasure. It'll actually give me a chance to look at our records. The high priest is currently in his study. The far door in the back left of the church."

True to his word the priest almost immediately heads off as if to seek the knowledge he spoke of, leaving Ssekhith too go inside for the original purpose for which he had come here. Following along behind is his companion who the priest makes no move to stop as they enter.

The inside of the church is nearly as grand as the outside. The roof of the building, which provides shelter from both animals and harsher currents, seemed unnecessarily high. It made for a lot of swimming space but was fairly ostentatious by tribal standards. In particular the amount of worked stone and corral used to support the structure from within must have seemed almost wasteful to someone whose tribe needed natural caves just to get something this sturdy.

There was something peaceful to the water inside though. The constant tug of the water, the motion caused by so many people living so close, the currents above and below and even the many sounds all seemed muted inside this church. The door too the far left wasn't open but it wasn't hard to miss either. It did mean swimming by or over a great many 'benches', more furniture that seemed to have little point to it.

Valauthiel Brightsong:
Valauthiel heads inside and finds that the ostentatious outside of the building was actually a lot simpler on the inside. The most flattering thing about it was still the windows with little else adorning the walls. In the church of Aroden one could see countless scripts and scrolls hung across the entirety of the cathedral, each with an important 'truth'. The elder gods shrines were smaller, in the grand scheme of things, but often had ornate jewelry or the like.

Prismire's church was simpler. At least in comparison. At the end of a long row of benches for the masses to attend whatever sort of religious meetings that took place here stood an elf man in heavy armor. Unlike the one outside he was yet to show his age. He also seemed to be praying. At the sound of the door closing behind Valauthiel, the man stood up and turned to look at who had arrived.

"Ah, Lady Brightsong. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me." He bowed forward in a polite manner, one that wasn't exactly appropriate for a high priest too be following. He didn't seem to care much about that as he straightened. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything today. I am aware that it is your day off but, alas, you are a hard person to get a meeting with."

That adds an even more interesting dynamic to them. Anything she says will be filtered by Azeban. XD

Valauthiel Brightsong:
Valauthiel does not have to wait long. In a matter of an hour the messenger who had originally delivered the letter returned, looking a bit more chipper. Considering he had not one but two jobs for a noble blooded and a high priest the young man was probably getting paid a pretty penny.

Valauthiel is lead on quite a swim. While the church of Aroden and even Poseidon reside deep within the cities center, the 'cult' of Prismire did not seem to merit a building so close to the central hub of culture and wealth.

Despite that the architecture of the place seems very ingrained in the older style that one can see the closer one gets to the center of the capital. A large sprawling building with grand windows of stained glass each depicting a different act of divinity, made from carved and shaped stone rather then clay or coral. It's far more impressive then a mere cult should be able to get.

Each image on the windows seems to have a common theme. At the base there are some people either being attacked or facing danger. The side that seems less dangerous often has a gentle silver light shining down on it. And above each scene is a silver shape, though only a small part of it happens to be in each image. It isn't until one follows the image all the way from the back of the church to the front that one sees what it's displaying.

Prismire, the massive silver beast, with a reptilian like head filled with teeth. And the silver light seems to be light reflecting off of her scales onto those she protects and watches over.

As Valauthiel she can see that the church, despite it's very noble looking structure, appears to be nearly empty at this time. There's no bustle of movement or sound coming from within and only one person is even nearby. The person is flashy enough in her own right to merit a second glance though.

For a moment she almost looked like a Merfolk statue forged of platinum. The second glance revealed a story that was close to the first impression save for a few key differences. A Merfolk woman with scales prominent through out her form that gleamed in the early afternoon light. They were definitely silver or platinum in color, much like the revered beast in the glass images, wearing armor and wielding an impressively large shield.

She wasn't alone either as Valauthiel learned upon getting closer to the church. Around the bend was Sea Elf male, one who actually showed a bit of age, moving closer toward the woman with a blade in hand. He lunged at the same time the merfolk woman raised her shield, deflecting the blow by the narrowest of margins. A moment later light flared to life between them, dividing the battle. The sea elf, undettered, swam up and over, preparing another charge.

Valauthiel Knowledge Local DC 10:
The elderly looking elf warrior is none other then Ventes Dardes, a former captain of Atlantis' guard and famed swordsman. Now he makes coin teaching. Though of noble blood he cares little for anything but the skill of those he wishes to teach, becoming a bit of a scandal amongst the nobility and a bit of a folk hero amongst the common man.

Valauthiel Spellcraft DC 17:
There is a spell of mercy cast on the blade that will cause it to deal only nonlethal damage. It will probably fade in a minute or two.

Azeban:
With a full stomach the two head off down the road. The church is actually fairly close to the outskirts of Atlantis being one of the more recent additions to Atlantis. The architecture is of the same strange design that the elven people use, with massive windows of what looked to be colored class depicting sections of a large image.

Each image seems to have a common theme.

There appear to be some people entering the church at this time. Ten elves and two merfolk moving through the doorway, with a single sea elf standing at the door in simple robes. Azeban and Ligeia would be hard pressed not to recognize a priest when they saw one, though the color of his clothing is strange, being a pale grey rather then the usual blood red they were used too.

@Azeban: Apologies, I thought Ligeia was capable of telepathic communication with everyone. Feel free to ignore that part of the post. XD

Ssekhith the White:
The priest definitely did not look like a high priest. He was a thin man wearing simple robes with only the silver medallion around his neck really shining. He tried smiling back when Ssekthith showed so many teeth but it was hard to disguise the twitch of uncertainty that had come before it.

He read the letter quickly and with it and the question the young man seemed to actually brighten a bit. "The serpent that flows below? Hrrrm..." He lowered his head and thought, going so far as to start rubbing his chin. "I think I recall reading about such a god. Worshiped by several tribes of lizardfolk, the pale white serpent is less of a guide and more of an ancestor."[/b]

The sea elf looks up as he consider Ssekhith and his eyes widen a bit as he notices the white scales. "Ah, I see. I suppose that depends. Many scholars didn't even believe Prismire was a god until recently but I hardly look to them for a reasonable discussion. I do know of a few scholars that have different ideas of such primal gods. Some say... that the one who flows below, with pale white scales, is a servant or perhaps even avatar of Hades."

"I personally think that's less likely since Hades himself has appeared in the time since Atlantis' founding in other forms. A harbinger perhaps, but then it is hard to ignore the similarities between Prismire and the one who flows below. There aren't any tails that I know of linking them together but... perhaps comparing some of their older sightings might give us an idea..."

The priest, who had been friendly but nervous originally, seems to have lost any nervousness he had. He speaks now with a confidence that shows he is definitely a learned man with an acute interesting in such things. He also gives no indication of stopping, so this pause was Ssekhith's chance to interject before the man continued.

Alright, we've had a slow start but consistent posting. Lets see if we can get everyone up to one a day! I've been trying to give people leeway time so I can reply all at once but I think I'll start replying when I see a message on the board to see if that helps things.

Ssekhith the White:
It does not take long for Ssekhith to find the newly minted church. The place is one of the more recent additions to Atlantis and is not nearly as close to the center as it could be. The architecture is of the same strange design, with massive windows of what looked to be colored class depicting sections of a large image.

Each image seems to have a common theme. At the base there are some people either being attacked or facing danger. The side that seems less dangerous often has a gentle silver light shining down on it. And above each scene is a silver shape, though only a small part of it happens to be in each image. Prismire, the massive silver beast, with a reptilian like head filled with teeth. And the silver light seems to be light reflecting off of her scales onto those she protects and watches over.

There are, surprisingly, about a dozen people coming out as Ssekhith arrives, all talking about a 'sermon' that had been held. Ssekhith gets some strange looks from the merfolk and sea elves leaving but a sea elf in robes drifts over to him, gliding through the water with a casual grace, and bows his head. "Greetings. Can I be of some assistance?"

Valauthiel Brightsong:
Unfortunately there aren't many texts yet about the church of Prismire. Though a city of knowledge Atlantis has many who live for hundreds of years. It could be a while before such a book could be added to your collection. However you do find a few about Prismire herself. They aren't much, little more then fairy tails, but each one speaks of a beast so large as to dwarf a city and it's protection of different creatures beneath the waves.

Often it's mere presence far above or the shimmering silver or sometimes adamantine scales will scare away those that do harm. Sometimes even just the holy symbol attributed to her will have that effect on evil. These are just stories of course but it's Valauthiel can still get a sense of what sort of goddess she is supposed to be.

For the Ventes family, Valauthiel has to rely on some more current sources of information. She recalls reading the name once before and after only a little bit of searching is able to find where. In the after action reports that she receives as the last existing wielder of a Black Blade. Most describe his father, one of the Generals of Atlantis' military forces. The man is old in years but continues to serve loyally long past the age at which he could retire.

These days it's more rank and file things that he does, since there hasn't been a war for Atlantis for hundreds of years, but he seems to have a sense of diligence that serves him well. Each report is filed by him, first off, rather then a secretary he could easily hire to do it for him.

There's some on Ardonis' siblings to. Each one seems to have found a field or position of power and the reports detail skill on their part. The eldest, a female, is one of Atlantis' rangers. The next in line for the noble house is an engineer. Then Ardonis, the youngest, who is also listed in some of reports of, has dealt with a lot of local issues.

Since becoming high priest there have been fewer in number but it seems he now has an apprentice or two beneath his wing, as he has begun filing reports for their activities. Mostly simple things such as dealing with accidents or injuries but one of the apprentices has managed to successfully deal with a fledgling vampire within the city.

Ssekhith the White:
Ssekhith would hear some good-natured laughing from some of the others in the barracks already awake, those early risers amongst this squad, but no one tries to stop the elf courier or ask after Ssekhith for answers. Another strange difference between Lizardfolk and Elves. This sense of privacy that was often a rare commodity in a village where a couple could spawn as many as a dozen children in a generation.

The letter is neatly bound and opening it reveals equally careful handwriting.

Ssekhith the White

Greetings, warrior. I have heard word of your presence in the barracks and I have to admit I am curious about your story. I understand that you help those within the squad you have found yourself apart of, but if you have some free time, I would like to extend an invitation to the Church of Prismire. Anyone should be able to give directions, we've certainly been talked about enough over the last century.

For what it's worth I can offer a good meal for your visit and perhaps some interesting stories of my own if you're curious.

From the High Priest of the Church of Prismire, Ardonis Ventes

With the startled sound of the courier it seems that more of the soldiers in the squad have begun awakening. Ssekhith would notice them stretching and preparing for another day of civil duty, mostly with jokes. In his corner of the room he has a bit more room to stretch, as he doesn't sleep there alone, but soon this barrack will be busy and bustling.

Not sure if you meant the specific elves of the church or elves in general, but Aroden is still very much the god of Atlantis. This world also allows for Polytheism so people paying respect to Aroden, the god of Atlantis, while being a disciple of Prismire aren't necessarily even giving up their faith so much as expanding it. Think the greek pantheon. Also no worries on the delay. Before my post there wasn't a campaign thread to dot so that's probably why it failed.

Azeban and Ligeia:
The inn is one of the more comfortable ones. The small shelters provided for sleep in each room serve too give one a sense of privacy and are lined with something soft and comfortable to lean against. The features of doorways and hallways and private rooms is not so strange to a Kua Toa, one of the few creatures in the world that has homes on both land and sea. Though Azeban may have never visited some of those far reaching cities he knows from the ones he has gone to that despite their differences the Sea Elves and Kua Toa seem to have similar tastes in architecture.

Out in the hallway Azeban would be greeted by a few other new comers. This place was good and cheap for those who were looking for more then a single nights stay. Some were travelers taking a break before their caravan left again. Others were new comers to the city like Azeban himself. It was easy to tell them apart because the former showed a familiarity with the staff that was almost familial to a Kua Toa's sensibilities.

The food was... Lacking in some ways though. There wasn't nearly as much meat and spice for a native of the culture Azeban came from. However it might make up for it in other ways. Today it seemed like it might have a chance, with fish being served having been cooked by one of the heat vents that probably kept this inn warm in the cooler months. The common room could ruin it, though nothing said Azeban couldn't take the food back too his shared room with Ligeia.

For her part, Ligeia got some strange and wondering looks at first, but if she chose to greet anyone she would get surprised and mostly friendly responses. The innkeeper and her staff were the ones that seemed the most accepting of an intelligent creature such as Ligeia, barely batting an eye when the pair had come in the day before.

Azeban and Ligeia:
'From the High Priest of the Church of Prismire, Ardonis Ventes

First, this letter is a welcome for you. The city of Atlantis accepts all who wish to find a place of peace. Secondly I wish to extend an invitation to you to come and visit the church of Prismire. I am aware that your race might make it difficult for you to find a home. Though Atlantis prides itself on acceptance and knowledge there are some who succumb to baser fears. If you ever have any concerns, questions or are even in need of work the Church of Prismire will always be willing to offer a hand.'

It's hard to say for certain but it is rare that a high priest of any church, even one as small as a former cult such as Prismire, would be personally greeting new comers with a letter. Before Azeban has a chance to explain what he read though a second knock came and this one was much less hesitant. "Breakfast will be served shortly." A somewhat feminine voice said through the door. "Grub comes with the room if you want some." And then more retreating footsteps, though it was followed shortly by another knock a few doors down.

Valauthiel:
'Valauthiel Brightsong, Wielder of Laermornenion and Daughter of the Brightsong line

Greetings wielder of Dark water song, protector of Atlantis. I write this message in the hopes that we might find a chance to speak before duty draws you away once more. As a disciple of Prismire my goals align with your own. Though I imagine we might have different skills that are put into use in protecting Atlantis I feel we have enough common ground to be, if little else, allies.

If you are open to this invitation I have made time today to speak with you. Simply reply to this message and give it to the courier who brought it. He will remain at the gate until you've made your decision. I thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish you the best of mornings.

From the High Priest of the Church of Prismire, Ardonis Ventes, Son of the Ventes line.

Though not as formal as it could have been the letter was clearly written with the normal respects paid. It is telling that before respects to her line, Ardonis paid respect to her new position as the wielder of the last remaining Black Blade. Such priorities are often seen in more military minded folk then a noble. The letter itself is of quality and it seems like Valauthiel may take her time in replying.

Alright, I'm going to give Emissary another couple hours to reply and then I'll post.

Alright, the first post is up! Thank you all for your patience. It's been a trying few days but now that I have a good source of food again things should get easier.

Atlantis. One of the greatest cities beneath the waters and perhaps even above. It's so large a city as to appear, to outsider, to be several small cities grouped around one large center. One could travel for days from one end to the other. So it is no surprise that many a visitor might come here, if for nothing other then the unusual column like structures forged of stone, made in an image that does not fit with the conventional thoughts of architecture that would last beneath the depths. And yet last it does.

Many born here consider it the greatest city in the world and while Mercare is certainly a proud symbol of it's people, it does not hold a candle to even the simple vastness of this city. The fact that it is a cultural hub where any could come, find refuge and create a new life has only brightened the many paths through this massive city.

Today in particular the water is warm and comfortable for it's inhabitants. The city rings with peaceful sounds of the life that fills it. The currents flow gently, allowing many to be on their way with little trouble. The city is just awakening now. It is early in the morning and the world just seems right. But those who know the truth of the world know there's always trouble to be found... somewhere.

Azeban and Ligeia:
Azeban and Liegeia find themselves on the outskirts of one of the newer districts, formed around those like them that don't fit the particular mold that the sea elves do. For the most part it is Merfolk that live here but despite this and... other problems Azeban finds that his welcome is not too sour.

The professionals at least, the innkeeper and the merchants, seem to care little about race when gold is in play. Liegeia in particular, despite her abnormalities, actually finds that a few people are even more receptive to her then her guardian. You awake in the shelter you stayed in, as much for privacy as anything else, and find that someone is knocking on your door.

After only one try though the knocking stops, a note is slid under the door, and the person can be heard departing rather quickly. Not all want to meet the new arrival it seems. The letter has an unusual seal on it.

Ssekhith the White:
Ssekhith, having lost a home already, has found that those he fought beside are not quick to forget their friends. Over the last few weeks he has found a welcome shelter in the military barracks of Atlantis itself. He is invited on hunts, to training and even to their suppers.

The custom of standing around wooden pieces of furniture while eating ones share is strange but the sea elves seemed to hold to it, finding the camaraderie that is often shared at such 'tables'. Other then as a fixture though they don't seem to hold much in the way of usefulness in this weightless environment.

Today the light from above the waves greets Ssekhith through a 'window', another oddity in the Sea Elven structure, before the sounds of awaking can ring through the barracks. At his feet, standing a bit more warily then the elves Ssekhith has come to know, is a small little fellow, likely a child of the elven people, with a satchel around his waist.

When he notices that Ssekhith is awakening he startles back even further, dropping a letter with a strange seal holding it closed.

Valauthiel Brightsong:
Valauthiel and Laermornenion call Atlantis home. But since taking up the mantle of her passed father, she has had many a cause that would pull her away from it. So it is a rare time for her to find peace, a day to herself. Today is supposed to be such a day.

Her home is not as opulent as some of the nobles of today but it is one of the oldest homes in Atlantis, one of those close to the center and the seat of power that is the council. Her families service too the people of this city has also earned such things that other noble families might even lack. Servants move about the halls with daily tasks, seeing to the minutia of keeping such a storied home clean and intact.

As is common though the early day shows that not all will go as planned. A simple letter as been slipped beneath the door of her home, the parchment carefully bound by an official looking seal. Not of the council, but still opulent enough to draw the eye.

Religion Check DC 5:
It is the seal used by the local church of Prismire. The 'church' and it's followers are seen as little more then a cult worshiping a massive beast of silver scales.

Religion or Local Check DC 10:
It is the seal used by the local church of Prismire. The 'church' and it's followers are seen as little more then a cult worshiping a massive beast of silver scales. That is, they were, until about one hundred years ago when a Sea Elf proved through prayer to have been touched by divinity.

Religion or Local Check DC 15:
It is the seal used by the local church of Prismire. The 'church' and it's followers are seen as little more then a cult worshiping a massive beast of silver scales. That is, they were, until about one hundred years ago when a Sea Elf proved through prayer to have been touched by divinity.

Since then the church has been given certain rights and responsibilities. One of those is assisting in over seeing the protection of local affairs near Atlantis.

Wonderful! That is everyone.

@Azeban: The last thing I need you to do is put your stats up like the others have beneath their name. Here's a quick guide I'm borrowing from GM rednal for it.

Organize your quick reference bar - the Gender/Race/Classes part of your alias (they display in that order if you need more room) - with the following format:

Level(s)/Tier | HP: XX/XX | AC: XX / T: XX / FF: XX / DR: X, SR: X, Resist: X, Immune: X | Fort: +X, Ref: +X, Will: +X | M. Atk: +X, R. Atk: +X, M. Touch: +X, R. Touch: +X | CMB: +X, CMD: X | Init: +X, Perception: +X

If there are things you don't use or don't have, such as any elemental resistances, ranged attacks, or non-touch attacks, remove those. CMB and CMD stay. Do not hide this information behind a spoiler tab - that defeats the purpose of a quick-reference bar.

This will let me see what your stats are while we play. I'll be finishing my post. It should come later today after I get food delivered and get to eat. XD Been a few days since I've done that.

@Azeban: I'm actually looking forward to testing out the archetype. I've seen a Vitalist used as an in combat healer too and while he did little else he had a blast keeping the party from near death. It probably will need tweaking too. I plan on putting you guys up against hefty odds at times and while smart thinking will get your way out of some of it a fight won't always be avoidable.

@Ssekith: Yeah, one of the downsides of the shark. Though don't worry too much. There are ways to get your shark bigger. Perhaps one of your 'magic items' might come in that form.

Reg does tend to post a bit later so I'm going to post a few things now for him to reply to when he gets on with Valauthiel.

Each of you will receive a minor bonus of a kind (or already have) that will fit with your backstory. These bonuses aren't going to be the be all end all but they'll be in place of the normal magic item you would normally have acquired by this point in your adventures. They are also to reward you for fan-fricking-tastic character concepts.

Azeban: Your bonus is the new and improved Octupus, for making igeia such an interesting character. She also gets the improved 4th lvl advancement I sent to you.

Ssekhith: Your bonus is two fold. First your character is pretty much what I envision of a 'Blessed One', touched by a more primal god. So you get 'Blessed Resistance: You have acid resistance 5, cold resistance 5, and electricity resistance 5.'

And when you hit fourth level and your shark gets his Animal Companion advancement, he will also gain the powerful bite ability because it's awfully thematic for a shark.

Valauthiel: You will get the Battle Mage feat we discussed as a bonus feat, gaining int to damage on ranged spellcasting. In addition at 4th level she will gain both Hex Magus (Su) and Spell Recall to represent her years of training towards using the blade she now wields. She was more physically inclined originally but learning under her father has, at least in part, given her some skills in magic beyond the norm.

And lastly there is the fourth member of your party played by moi. The party does not have a dedicated healer so the character I'll be taking up will serve as one for the party. I'll be using an archetype I made to make a Healer Cleric a real thing so you guys will get real in combat healing, but the sacrifice the archetype makes to do this means she won't be able to actually do anything to the enemy. Aside from keeping your characters alive to beat them down that is.

Again if there are any questions feel free to ask!

@Ssekhith: That works! Though I'll need you to either post as Jawshsh for his actions or add his stats to Ssekhith as a spoiler. XD I will, not on purpose, likely forget where they are.

@Ssekhith: I'd say it's your choice. I enjoy different things about both and consider each of them a valid take on the barbarian.

@Emissary: Works for me! Multiclassing is fun because it lets you really flesh out a character. Also I've always really liked the Tome of battle and path of war take on martial characters. So yeah, multiclass away.

Speaking of! If anyone does want to make adjustments now is the time. Once you've got a build nailed down say so and I'll start up the game.

@Emissary: Don't forget you get quite a few skill points to do with what you will. We're using the background skills rules and you get an additional 2 skill points for adventuring skills. I always liked the idea of characters being skilled in and out of battle.

The other characters already have their skills chosen so if you'd like to make yourself versatile in comparison to them feel free. Don't worry to much about not having different skills or overlapping though. With things like aid another, having two people with a skill means being that much more likely to succeed. I've even seen things like friendly rivalries form between two with high survival, always trying to best the other as hunters.

@Azeban: Thank you for joining us!

I'll be waiting for everyone to check in over the next day or so (and writing the first post) before I go into too much detail. In the mean time if you have any questions for me feel free to ask!

As I often hear and no only truly understand, this decision was harder then I thought it would be. At the end everyone put in fantastic ideas. Unfortunately I do not have the skill or mental stability to run a game for all of you and I'm not crazy enough to try!

The three who I will be accepting are

Yorick's Azeban and Ligeia
Reg Tyrsman's Valauthiel Brightsong
EmissaryoftheNorth's Ssekhith the White

To those chosen come join me in the discussion thread! For the rest thank you for the time and effort you put into this!

And the discussion is open!

@Emissary: Aside from one or two minor spelling errors (and I mean literally one or two) I like it. Short but sweet and still gives me plenty to work with. I also like your use of Albino. Among surface Lizard folks it's a danger because it means you stand out too much but such things are less of an issue under water, particularly the further down you go. You even added a powerful god like being which I love to see to help flesh out the world.

As with everyone else you are free to expand upon the story, as I do love the detail, but consider your submission accepted as is for looking at.

@BLC: Interesting. You are not too late, in fact, and have all day tomorrow as well. The character concept is good! I like the culture you hint at and the character herself. If you want to add more too the backstory that will rarely hurt my opinion of it but as is I'd accept that submission for consideration!

Alright! Recruitment will be closing at the end of Sunday night or more likely whenever I wake up on Monday. For those who expressed interest or who are just finding this that gives you guys the weekend to write up a background. For those uncertain or new I don't need much in the way of mechanics, just a general concept. What I'm looking for is a background. Normally I'd say a full background but if you feel rushed the 10 minute background option is still an option, so long as you're willing to refine it if you get picked.

To those who have already submitted their characters I thank you for your patience! We shall be gaming soon!

@Jesse: Ah! In that case the adventuring spirit is a fine motivation. A character wanting to explore and see the world will work just fine. It's merely that there aren't any organized groups exactly fitting to what people consider 'adventurers' in DnD.

For further info for everyone:

There are mercenaries, bounty hunters, researchers and even explorer groups but a typical adventurer tends to end up being all of these things. Which is also something to consider. You could be any one of these or even all of them, but take into account that each group has their own goals, and each group is also only a part of the many people in that profession.

Sorry for the delay to everyone! PT yesterday was both a big step forward and a very draining experience.

@Jesse: There was no response because you didn't ask a question.

@Reg: Looks good!

@Fliarah: That works too! Reading it again I do get that vibe this time. That just makes it more likely she could make friends outside those she worked with, professionally. XD

@Reg: Powerful stuff! If you want to add more about her training or day to day life up till that point, feel free. The more details like that I have the more I can weave her into the story if you get chosen. The thread will be open till the 3rd for anything, even submission tweaks. Otherwise it looks like you're good to go.

In this thread alone we have seen ideas for Lizardfolk that wish too elevate their culture, Elves maintaining a dangerous yet noble and even magical legacy to protect their realm, wizards with ambition beyond simple scholarly pursuits and even a creature touched by an evil god seeking a better and less blood stained life. These are what make and drive characters into the world. History, ambition, life, duty, responsibility, hope and even fear. Inspire your character as you would a person.

@Jesse: Not really sure I understand you. The entire premise is an Underwater campaign so, from the start, the lack of land was apparent. More over others have asked and gotten that answer. Secondly, there is no organized adventuring, no Adventurers guild, no questing. This is a more realistic setting in which the military commonly handles a lot of the problems an adventurer might do in a more fantastical world, because they're cheaper and more efficient. It doesn't stop the rare person that wants to become an adventurer but there's certainly no area you can go for a quest board. Heck, most of the pathfinder modules don't even have something that silly.

@Sylvanus: The assumption was in case a player wanted to invent the thing. Since no players have, there's no such thing as a 'gun' in this setting. And there's no questing. Adventuring isn't a profession in actual empires and kingdoms. They have their highly trained military for most of their needs. It's usually mercenary work that brings out those with a wanderlust but even their jobs can be as mundane as guarding traders from one city to the next. And yeah, the school might be well known, but if they're admitting so many it not be because their prestigious. XD

@Tuvarkz: I like the idea of the Cagebreakers. If they do anything like their namesake suggest, they'd have their hands full dealing with nobles in Mercare and Atlantis using their position to hide their 'slaves', on top of just taking out slavers from the Kua Toa empire. If you would like to write more about them and their origin that would be great! If not I can weave it into the world if you get chosen.

@Fliarah and Sylvanus: Please put some space between paragraphs. It'll make it easier to reread come the 3rd. Otherwise individual notes to follow.

@Fliarah: A good backstory! I would suggest that not everyone in the scholarly world would be unkind to her knew developments. Some, particularly those in charge, might prefer the traditional methods of learning and study but Atlantis worships a god of knowledge. So perhaps a few contacts within various fields have taken an interest in her work? Just a suggestion!

@Sylvanus: As far as the world is concerned 'guns' aren't a thing and their mechanics are about as mysterious as a radio or something similar, so actually learning it's called a gun wouldn't work. Atop that, the school of arcane magic your character went to is fine, but it isn't the only school in even the capital. There's probably have a dozen. As for a wizard finding a job after completing their studies and achieving the first level of spellcasting there is always those searching for apprentices. So does your character have a particular reason for wanting to go into the army instead?

@Jessie: Aside from mentions of Land the story is fine. In the Era that we'll be playing in, in this setting, the only land based creatures with any real power are the dragons and their slaves or wild tribes of barbarian humans. The former has ports but they are definitely the kind to capture and either kill or enslave sentient life of any kind.

@Sylvanus: The last background I wrote was the character writing his life in a journal. The one before that, telling his tail at a bar for free beer. Whatever floats your boat and makes a good story I'd say!

Hrrrm... I'd say...

This thread will be closing for applications on the 3rd. I will make my decision over the two days following.

@Tuvarkz: Hrrrm... The world is not quite the same as flying... I'd say if it allows a jump of a certain exact distance, you can move that much. However if it allows a jump based on a roll then you roll (swim probably), and you can move as normal in that regard. Don't quote me, since I have to look at the exact numbers, but it seems reasonable that a martially trained warrior from a society under the water would have developed martial maneuvers using their environment.

As for language there is actually no common and that is purposeful. These are two entirely separate nations. They have a lot of trade between them but you'll have to spend one of the background skill points on a linguistics rank to know what they're saying if you don't have the intelligence modifier for it.
