Professor Ettinmoor is up next, isn't he?
Yes - I'll assume he delays if there's no post within 6 more hours.
This encounter is taking a lot longer than I expected and the guys on the other side of the building will have to wait for it to play out as in game time it's literally only seconds so far.
GM Birch
22 hours on and only three people have responded. Daily posting was a prerequisite - and even with the fragmentation of the actions at present, I would expect a daily check of posts.
If we have to progress with three of you, I'll do it for the time being - and adjust the situations accordingly. I'll give players the remainder of today to confirm they still want to participate.
Wilthorn Gwanae
Whoops, sorry, here! I've been checking the gameplay page, but forgot to check discussion. I haven't been posting, since the action was focused on the guys with the shark, but if we're all back together, I'll be keeping active.
Eltanin Titansglade
Yeah, same as Wilthorn - just updated the map, going to update gameplay. I apologize for my distractedness, and I should note that the Professor might be in the same shape I was a couple of weeks ago - stuck in a game without a computer. I'd say this weekend will tell the tale.
GM Birch
Birch - Here is the map using Google Drive (can everyone see it?)
I placed our tokens where they are based on your description above (although the map does say that the top point is East for some reason).
Everyone should be able to move the tokens around. It is easy to offset the whole map by accidentally dragging, if that happens, just use the back arrow to correct.
If you want one with "Fog of War" where you cannot see the unexplored areas, we can do that too, but it's a little more time consuming to keep updated.
Here is the map link...

Sorry, I missed yesterday's post because the Paizo messageboards seemed to be down during the one hour I had access. From now on I'll try to check in before work in the morning; that won't give me much time to post, but it'll give me all day to think about the options.
Anyone heard from the Professor?
Gwernach Nickelbeard
Can you update the room to put the gnome and human in? We also need Tamat's icon so we can avoid having more than one creature occupying the same square during combat.
Gwernach Nickelbeard
Don't sweat it. You can easily add images to the map; I've just added an icon for Tamat - feel free to move it where you see him being Matam :)
GM, if you have access to icons or can find something on the web resembling the creatures we need to see, simply copy the image and paste it on the page and adjust for size.
As for the absence of Galen and the professor, you could send them a private message to poke a response. Don't know if that will work, but its worth a try. In the meantime, I have no problem pushing on without them.

Ok, short of putting every single non-combatant on the map, can someone quickly tell me if the two on the catwalk are in splash range of the innocent bystanders? Ellie's action will pretty much depend on the answer. I reeeally want to bomb something, but Ellie won't do that if any of the 'little Lamms' are in harms way.
GM Birch
I am here and will be posting in game soon. sorry for the delay. The map is fully editable by anyone. In my game I add the link to the upper margin space by editing the campaign info tab.
I added bad guys to the map, but DM will have to place them.
My firewall at work won't let me access the map. I can log in tonight - or someone else can put them at the top of the staircase as described in the post. That would be c.30 feet from the doorway you were standing at. And the're on the upper floor too.

The children are against the wall at the top of the map.

I'm not really sure what I should do. Would you prefer I be posting before or after you, GM Birch? Since what I do might be affected by what the NPCs do, it would make sense, but I'm not really sure on the "protocol", if that makes sense. This is my first PbP, so I apologize if this is a dumb question.

It's often best to post an action rather than hold play up if we are waiting for you. Then keep an eye on posts. If someone else does something that affects what you want to do, then you can change your mind.
As a rule - if you say you want to attack orc 1 of 3 and someone else kills orc 1, I'd switch your attack automatically to orc 2. Sometimes it's best to post a generic action e.g. attack the nearest orc - unless there is a specific reason you want to take a particular orc out (the magic user of the group for example).
It's certainly not a dumb question.

Alright, thanks. I was just sorta concerned because I move after the NPCs in initiative, but I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

Tamat, don't forget, the map is free for anyone to edit. Feel free to move your token :)
I moved the Gnome around the corner just to get him out of the way and move Gwernach up. GM Birch still has yet to place the gnome.
GM Birch Eltanin earlier indirectly raises a good question. When using a splash weapon, if its hits the target, it deals damage to that target as per its descriptor AND splash damage to creatures within 5ft. A miss means the affect of that weapon are directed to a random area near the intended target. Do you see this applying vertically as well? or should we presume that the catwalk floor is sufficiently 'sealed' to prevent any liquids from spilling down on the children?
A splash weapon is a ranged weapon that breaks on impact, splashing or scattering its contents over its target and nearby creatures or objects. To attack with a splash weapon, make a ranged touch attack against the target. Thrown splash weapons require no weapon proficiency, so you don’t take the –4 nonproficiency penalty. A hit deals direct hit damage
to the target and splash damage to all creatures within 5 feet of the target. If the target is Large or larger, you choose one of its squares and the splash damage affects creatures within 5 feet of that square. Splash weapons cannot deal precision-based damage (such as sneak attack). You can instead target a specific grid intersection. Treat
this as a ranged attack against AC 5. However, if you target a grid intersection, creatures in all adjacent squares are dealt the splash damage, and the direct hit damage is not dealt to any creature. You can’t target a grid intersection occupied by a creature, such as a Large or larger creature; in this case, you’re aiming at the creature.
If you miss the target (whether aiming at a creature or a grid intersection), roll 1d8. This determines the misdirection of the throw, with 1 falling short (off-target in a straight line toward the thrower), and 2 through 8 rotating around the target creature or grid intersection in a clockwise direction. Then, count a number of squares in the indicated direction equal to the range increment of the throw. After you determine where the weapon landed, it deals splash damage to all creatures in that square and in all adjacent squares.

Goblin? or did you mean gnome?
I'm sure we can work through your firewall :)
Once Tamat enters the same room, just let me (or one of us) know where you would like the gnome to be and we can move the token. Eg. How far did he travel from his position on the catwalk (Gwernach is there now)? Let me know if he makes any turns or is heading for a specific room, landmarks, that sort of thing.
Oh, added a dog token on the side, hope that's alright :)

I did mean gnome. And I'll make sure I describe where people go. The dog is great, thanks.

If the DM Birch can't hit the map, he's going to have to give much better descriptions of where things are relative to each other, so either we can keep the tac map running, or just picture the scene in our heads. Right now, I'm struggling with trying to figure out the map and relative positions.
My second concern is the initiative order. Are we using any sequence besides posting? Can you list it? I'm unclear when it's my turn to act and when it's not and hate to be a story hog.
Sorry if that feels like complaining; only trying to improve it.

Near the end of Page 4,
So order for round one is: Matam, Gwernach, Eltanin, Giggles, Wilthorn, Tamat
Giggles has been replaced by the other NPCs.
Numerically, 22, 20, 18, ??, 5, 2. From where you've been on the updates, you're moving before the NPCs, after Eltanin.
GM Birch
Just to say I'm happy to ditch maps if it helps - and just use descriptions. This is the only game I'm GMing that is using maps. My concern is that the map dominates the combat rather than helps it.
From a descriptive point of view, I left you pondering a dilemma. Stay in a room that is empty, waiting for something to come through a door - or go into the next room (which is hidden from you at present). In truth the map should be a red-herring at this point.
I will continue to use pictures when I can - and if you want to use a map for your benefit that's great - but I'll rely on words from this point on.
Gwernach Nickelbeard
Although I would include myself as one of those players quite dependent on maps; especially for combat, I'm willing to forego maps in the spirit of trying something new :)
Wilthorn Gwanae
I can play with or without the map. I think it being posted would be nice, just to get a feel for what the room is like, and to avoid confusion, but tracking combat on a grid could certainly be phased out.
Gwernach Nickelbeard
Let's finish this encounter with the map. GM Birch can provide the descriptions the same way he has been doing with his other campaigns. Should the need arise, and it is Ok with GM Birch, perhaps Dr. Evil could post future maps for our imaginations to feed off.
I'm not sure what Matam is waiting for, can we press on with him bringing up the rear? Eltanin should be back up and running by now as well, perhaps she's watching the game play for anything new. :)

Good idea - and good idea...

Ok, I posted yesterday and now my post is not visible on the adventure thread. This is getting slightly crazy. Apparently I'm going to have to back up everything before I post, then check back an hour later to see if it needs to be reposted. Sorry about that.
It's been happening a lot to me recently too...

I will be traveling all day Sunday in the car and prepping most of the day tomorrow. My ability to check in on the game will be limited (but perhaps not non-existent) this weekend. While I'll be away from home until after New Year's, I should be able to post semi-regularly except on travel days.
Wilthorn Gwanae
Letting you know, I will be out of town, and unable to access the internet until the 6th of January. If Combat happens, just have Wilthorn go after the most important thing, otherwise assume he follows everyone else. His attacks are listed in his statblock. Thanks.
Gwernach Nickelbeard
I've been checking everyday, nothing's going on. Seems as though we are in a holding pattern until after Jan 6th...

All - apologies but I will be withdrawing from this game. I am slowing down my playing to concentrate on running another game. Having to make tough choices, I have chosen to withdraw from this game, which has only barely started. Perhaps you will have luck finding another player to fill the role and hopefully you'll have a long and fruitful campaign.
Thanks for choosing me. Sorry to bail on you, but I'm sure you'll understand.

I appreciate you letting us know - and if circumstances change, just let me know.
I'll see how we progress with the players we have before deciding to add another player.
