"There is never a perfect plan, so perhaps we should take what we have and do the best with it... While Molly's spell is more effective with more enemies, too many and the whole thing could end in a blood mess on our side!" He adds quickly already anticipating Storn's comment.

"With the information that the slaves do have somewhere to go, I believe we can start with freeing them. Whatever we do it could cause the giants to reinforce the security around the slaves, so the most we can free at once the better." Pyrrhus points out. "If we need to strike from different sides each time and on different targets, any target or side is a good one to start and we already know we can attack the giants guarding the slaves."


Knowing that your next step was going to be freeing the slaves, you made your plans. You kept careful watch on the slaves the next day, seeing how many giants came down to the fields with them, and watching the process. You struck on the third day. From the gully where you watched on the first day, you planned your assault. There was normally at least one giant nearby, and when the day started, most of the giant guards were near this spot. Other than ambushing the giants as they came down the mountain path - and endangering all of the slaves who were sure to be bunched up between the giants - this was your best shot.

Here is the map. I have placed you in the gully. If you have a Stealth modifier of +15 or better, you can place yourselves anywhere on the map at least 30 feet away from a giant. There are 5 giants in the area, but only 3 that are close to your ambush spot.

I've got barkskin and mutagen and shield extracts that I'll drink right before we get started, plus will use my displacement extract in my coat when I'm close. I'll also take an extract of flight. Then I'll start at N-10. I'll plan to fire a confusion bomb at the one to the northwest, then fly back to AC-18 area, and use damaging bomb after that. (If the northeast one gets closer to us but no one is engaging him in combat, I'll use a confusion bomb on him too.)

Storn dresses up in his giant's nail scale armour and grabs a hold of heartspit, nodding to the others as they fan out. He crouches and just waits for the group to get into position.

Buffing myself with ironskin, the group with communal protection from evil, and Chwaer with Heart of Carnage.

Heart of Carnage:

At 10th level, you can touch an ally and bless it with even greater destructive power. For 1 minute, the ally gains a +4 insight bonus on attack rolls made to confirm critical hits and has a 50% chance to treat any critical hit or sneak attack against it as a normal hit.


With your forward-deployed ambushers in place, you all wait for the proper moment. Sander had a bit of a scare as a female frost giant walked within 20 feet of him, but she did not see the halfling hiding among the tall barley. At the signal - the sound of one of Sander's bombs exploding - you all burst into motion.

Prior to Combat

Pyrrhus grabs his axe, eager to fight one of the ancient enemies of his people and soon speaks two strange power words in a strange language that Molly can recognize as terran. "Tesifa. Fit’ineti." As the word is spoken, a small vibration on the ground can be felt and soon after you are filled with two distinct feelings, one of hope and the other of urgency.

Casting Good Hope on everyone before they move. It will last for 10 minutes. Each affected creature gains a +2 morale bonus on saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls.

Casting Haste on everyone before they move. It will last for 10 rounds. Each affected creature gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves, has its movement increased by 30ft and can make an additional attack as a full-round action.

Surprise

Once the battle begins, Pyrrhus moves as fast as he can after Chwaer, unwilling to leaf her alone.

Chwaer stands a little taller at the strange words and grins back at Pyrrhus. When the bomb goes off she darts forward, her axe spinning back and forth, reflecting the light. She slides the last 5' on her knees to try and duck under the giant's reach and come to stand next to its leg, adopting Pirana Style as her spinning axe starts taking small bites.

Before combat begins, Molly activates her Flight Hex. When the bombs go off, the Witch breaks cover and flies into position, chanting as she goes. When she stops - she hurls a bolt of lightning that lashes the two leftmost Giants!

Sander's bomb exploded in a cloud of mauve mist, and the farthest giant's eyes seemed to glaze over for a moment, but then it shook off the effects. The others moved into position, ready to attack.

Pyrrhus continues to move forward, focusing the hatred of his kin and getting ready to avenge countless grudges against the giantkin. Once within reach, he utters another power word, this one easier to feel than to understand. "T’orineti."

The ground quakes and a tremor starts, however all can feel these vibrations are not harmful to them. Only to them.

Standard Action: Prepairing to activate Bardic Performance (war chant) once Sven comes within 30ft. 24/26 rounds.

With War Chant, Chwaer and Sven will receive the Outflank and Improved Outflank feats. Due to his Quake ability, the closest giant needs to make DC 19 Reflex save to avoid falling prone. Due to his Tremor ability, enemies within 30 ft. takes a -2 penalty to AC (no save). All these abilities are described in Pyrrhus alias under "Special Abilites".

Surprise round
Molly draws power from a memory; the dreadful memory of ever-frozen Irrisen. The memory, she turns into words, and words become power. Underneath a Giant marching along, the earth remembers an age of cold unending... and great spears of ice lance upwards!

In round 1, Molly casts Ice spears at the lower left Giant. Two spears stab up into her. Spear #1: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 piercing, 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 cold damage; Spear #2: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 piercing, 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 cold damage. Reflex save DC 18 for half damage. If Reflex save fails, the spears make a trip attempt: Combat Maneuver 1d20 + 8 + 5 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 5 + 10 = 37 to knock the Giant prone.

Storn and Pyrrhus closed with the lead giant, even as Molly sent a brace of icy spears to stab at the lead giant. The giant seemed unphased by the burning cold of the spears, though their tips pierced her skin and caused some minor bleeding. The spear entangled her legs, and she fell, right onto the tip of Storn's spear. The giant in the rear shouted out commands to attack to the other 3 giants that were too far away for you initial battle, then fired a brace of arrows at Storn. Only one hit, but it was like being struck by a ballista bolt. The shaft sticking out of Storn's shoulder was as thick around as the big man's thumb, and nearly half as tall as he was!

With the nearest giant already down, Sander pulls his new crossbow from his back and fires a bolt toward the one in yellow clothing.

The lead giant died under a hail of blows from Thellira, whose axe opened great wounds in every major artery she could reach. Sander fired a crossbow off at the next frost giant on the field, sticking the tiny bolt in a leg. That giant rushed forward, hurling a rock at the halfling. Sander stood still and watched the rock bounce far short of him.

Surprised that the giant went down so quickly, Pyrrhus turned and started to run towards the next opponent.

Charging at the giant in O20. Pyrrhus is at AA6, but I believe he should be at AA8. Nevertheless, with 50 ft move speed due to haste, he can reach it.

Pyrrhus and Storn charge towards the other frost giant while Molly engages the leader, hoping to finish off this trio before the other 3 giants arrive. Pyrrhus drove his blade through the giant's defense, but his strike was off, resulting in only a small wound. Molly's lightning bolt hit the frost giant leader, but did little damage. In return, she ducked as a hail of arrows flew her way. She lithely dodged the first, but ran fight under the second, rolled from the third, and took the fourth in her stomach. The barbed arrows, specifically made for killing unwary humans, attached the end of thumb-thick shafts ripped holes in her, and she spun in the air, limply hanging as her magics held her aloft.

With Molly down, the rest of the group went mad with fury. Sander threw a fire boms - anathema to a frost giant - and it splashed all down the yellow-shirted giant's head and torso. Then Chwaer shot forth with amazing speed, rolling under the swinging bow of the giant leader and hacking into his leg. Gouts of blood poured form the wound and the dwarf eyed the giant balefully. The fire-maimed giant swung repeatedly at Pyrrhus, but the damage to its eyes was bad enough thtat it couldn't land a hit.

As Storn charged at the nearest giant, it's face wrinkled in disgust at the man's giant-nail armor. Still, it seemed to ignore the effect and braced itself. Not enough, apparently, as Storn jabbed his spear deep into the giant's belly. While the creature was distracted with the red-hot needle burning in its guts, Pyrrhus hacked away at its legs like a frenzied lumberjack. The giant swayed on its feet, but managed to stay upright, its club swinging menacingly.

The patrol leader dropped his bow and struck at Chwaer with a massive axe. The mouser slipped under the blow, and suddenly the giant lost sight of her ans she danced between his legs!

Pyrrhus and Storn moved in on the patrol leader. Pyrrhus healed himself as Storn attacked ferociously. The giant stared at Storn's armor, turning green as he realized what the armor was made of. It distracted him enough that Storn was able to drive his spear deep into the frost giant. The giant, torn between attacking Storn and getting rid of the little pest that was trying to hack at his genitals, chose to strike at Chwaer, hitting her once with the greataxe he carried.

@Sander - You can see them on the map. There are 3 more frost giants closing on you. The original guard patrol was 6, so this is the total amount of giants on the field right now. The slaves are cowering in place.

Chwaer's attacks grew more frenzied after being injured, not less. Her axe blade dove into the giant's legs and groin, and the patrol leader collapsed with a grunt as he bled out on the soil of the barley field.
