Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian will ask the creature about the tome that the party is in search of. Still moving so sorry for the quick and somewhat bland post. We are looking for a book here, right? I'm losing track.
GM Batpony |
No worries Xavian, you actually found a book. And now you are talking to the book. So I'll assume if you ask what you're in search for, you ask "How can we free Ranginori?"
"My time within the book has left me with more than enough time to study. I have collected many theories, but the one I feel is most credible involves the creation of a hammer crafted from the purest elements of fire, water, and earth. Metal from the core of Aryzul’s kingdom must be forged in fire hotter than Ymeri’s hatred and then quenched in water colder than Kelizandri’s heart. When such a weapon is applied to the Untouchable Opal, the gem should break and release my lord. Ostensibly, a similar treatment using equally powerful components might also suffice. For further reading about this subject, please refer to page 109.”
Before you turn the page, please finish asking her your questions.
Korez |
"Have you any idea where we might find a certain Jamila? Perhaps not in your book, but you might hear rumors from those who visit the library? We need to find her urgently and know she is somewhere in this grand city."
Jian Sheng |
"How fascinating..."Jian Sheng murmurs to herself as she studies the creature Not an illusion...but a real being? I must look into this.
Upon hearing Ilyralene's answers, Jian Sheng nods and asks another question "What about the Concordance of Elements? What can you tell us about them?"
GM Batpony |
She pauses for a moment as if to examine her own thoughts, "While I know nothing of Jamila, or about the lives of individuals, I have heard of the Concordance. The Concordance is a society of individuals dedicated to preserving neutrality and balance among the elemental planes. There are five leaders known as the Five Seats: the Seat of Earth, the Seat of Air, the Seat of Fire, and the Seat of Water. The fifth leader is the Seat of Balance, who is responsible for moderating discussions and overseeing the decisions of the others.”
While you chat with the book, at the entrance, an upset familiar djinni walks in hastily. You recognize her from the Gala nad know that she in factwork here. Fairuza Bereket walks up to the group and speaks. It is clear she is upset about the matter of you being here, and knows more about you that you think. "What are you doing here!? Why do you seek Ranginori's release?"
Glorin Too-Tall |
Glorin steps in to interfere, his beefy body interposed between the party and the djinni.
"Well, I'm just looking around. I keep getting confused around here, what with the flying and lightheadedness and everything. But seriously, now, why would anyone want to release Ranginori?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Xavian Slingblade |
Deciding to play innocent and naive, Xavian speaks up as well. Glorin is right. Why would it matter to you what we were seeking?
Diplo: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Korez |
"I'm sorry Fairuza, I don't understand. Is there some reason Ranginori should not be released?"
diplomacy AA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
GM Batpony |
She sighs, looks at the group funnily, but speaks without prejudice. "Please do not take me for a fool Pathfinders. The Concordance has been tracking your every movement in Armun Kelisk. What you wish to do will create a great danger to not only the elemental planes but also to the material world. By nature, the balance among the elements depends upon the balance of power among the elemental planes. For tens of thousands of years, one elemental lord has reigned supreme over each plane. To release a second in the Plane of Air would disrupt that balance. It would bring about chaos, with the promise of war and suffering." It seems that Fairuza is part of the Concordance, but at the moment she seems to bear no violence towards you.
I've added some pictures to the map link so you'd know how the people look like.
Jian Sheng |
Jian Sheng hands rests casually on her hilt as she speaks "We have our orders. We take note of your concern and will relay the information to our superiors. However, it will be up to them to decide what our actions will be, not you."
Korez |
"The Pathfinder Society has no interest in bringing chaos or suffering to anyone. But isn't Ranginori a more beneficial lord? Your fears seem somewhat overstated from our perspective. However, if there is truly danger in our quest, we may be able to find a solution which is more amenable to both the Society and your Concordance."
Inira McCullagh |
"I do wonder why we are on this path. Perhaps we should her words? And we don't seem to be getting any closer to finding Jamila."
GM Batpony |
As you attempt to explain yourselves further to Fairuza, your voices are all drowned by a thunderous sound. A roaring wind seems to cackle through the corridor leading to the entryway of the gallery.
Lifted by the wind, three unlikely creatures flying, at about 15 ft height, with a look to kill float into the room.
An air elemental, a pegasus, an a Slyph caster. The Slyph speaks up in the common tongue. "So it seems the Concordance has decided to work with the pathfinders in this blasphemous act against Hshurha. Be met with death!"
Fairuza sighs but wastes no time, she beckons you to deal with the other two while she engages with the elemental. She rolls out the entrance and the elemental follows in pursuit.

Can't put proper tokens yet as I'm on mobile, but rectangle is Pegasus and the Slyph is circle, he's not armed at the moment but he's got a lance on him.
Xavian Slingblade |
Xavian flings a pair of cold iron daggers at the closest foe! Not sure what range penalty you'll place on me but I'll at least take a 5' step closer.

Nice, range won't matter with that effort.
GM Batpony |
Xavian, quick off his feet, attempts the first strike but his aim is ill and two daggers fly right off the right side of the foe. The pegasus attempts a slick manoeuvre to fly right at Glorin and turn around in a fly-by attack. The pegasus moves gracefully but is unable to get a clean strike on Glorin.

"So, it seems that someone has once again acted to kill without understanding the situation! I swear, I don't even know if we're releasing anyone. Not that you care, you ridiculous blowhards!"
Narrowing his eyes in fury, he adds, "What, you think I can't reach up there?"
He pulls out a potion and downs the contents. With a guttural growl, he quickly doubles in size.
Retrieve and drink a potion of enlarge person.

Jian Sheng upon seeing flying enemies digs into her pouch and retrieves a potion, which she gulps down in a one go. Jian Sheng and Glorin both drink a potion in preparation for the upcoming battle. Korez unleashes a fire from his hands but the creatures are able to move out of the way to deflect most of the damage.
The sylph laughs in your faces. "Is that all you have? You are not worthy of me." As he speaks, he cast a spell and a mist surrounds him obscuring most of your vision.
He casted obscuring mist. Area in red circle is obscuring mist.

Xavian will get onto his flying carpet and attempt to rise up to the level of the enemy. He will then draw his magic blades and try to move next to the closest enemy and prepare for hand-to-hand combat.
Not sure I can do all of that in a single turn.

Inira shoots arrows into the mist, trying to catch the Sylph.

GM Batpony |
Inira fires a bunch of arrows into where she last the Slyph. The first shot, she hears a solid thump, but the next couple seems to be lost in the mist.
Xavian, getting the on the carpet should treated as a move action. action economy wise it's not an issue but the flying may. The way you described your movement (moving up and then moving straight) is a complex move with DC 15 fly check, if you move directly to Slyph in a diagonal, it's moving less than half speed so it's a DC 10 fly check. The carpet gives you 40ft fly speed and +5 bonus to fly check.
Yliss is up.
Yliss |
Yliss draws a scroll and quickly stumbles through the incantation, but somehow manages to conjure thousands of brilliant motes. "It worked! Can you see them now, Glorin?"
Standard Activate scroll of glitterdust (DC 13 Will)
Caster Level Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
I'm assuming the white tokens are where I last saw the enemy, and that my action goes before Xavian's. If either of those isn't true, I would target a different location with the spell
Xavian Slingblade |
Since its was about 20' to get there we can move at half speed without a problem, so DC 10 it is.
Fly Check: 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 5 = 13
Umm, good thing!
GM Batpony |
I typically resolve actions in order posted but it's no big deal to make it a point that Yliss went before Xavian to avoid the glitterdust effects.
Unfortunately, Yliss spoke too soon, the sparkles outline the creatures temporarily and soon the mist blocks all light through it once again.
Will Slyph: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

The Pegasus, now disabled from sight, attempts to move a bit lower to attack an enlarged Glorin. However unable to fly accurately in the blind, the Pegasus is forced to descend all the way to the ground. Once reaching the ground, the Pegasus attempts to bite Glorin, but again affected by the blindness, is unable to do anything worthwhile.

Korez |
Korez sees the sparkle consumed by the mist and decides to try illuminating the sylph himself.
Using my Stardust class ability.
Stardust: As a standard action, the shaman causes stardust to materialize around one creature within 30 feet. This stardust causes the target to shed light as a candle, and it cannot benefit from concealment or any invisibility effects. The creature takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls and sight-based Perception checks. This penalty to attack rolls and Perception checks increases by 1 at 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter, to a maximum of –6 at 20th level. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to half the shaman’s level (minimum 1). Sightless creatures cannot be affected by this ability. The shaman can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier.
This ability specifically calls out that it defeats concealment so it should be useful here.

GM Batpony |
Jian Sheng, Korez revealed the Slyph not the Pegasus. I'll assume you intended to attack the sylph? if so you should be able to move without a fly check as you moved more than half speed in a straight line
Korez does some magic mumbo jumbo and creates a blinding light to come from the Slyph. His is illuminated that it is easy to pick out. Jian Sheng takes advantage of this and moves immediately to attack him, slicing him with his blade.

Inira, distracted by the shiny light, forces her arrows to be wasted as they fly into nothingness. Xavian does surprisingly well on the carpet getting two strikes at the creature, making him bloodied. Yliss once again complains that he needs more space, the group never seems to learn.

You're right! No AoO.
