Okay, caught up on life and health, so back to this!

The party waits for Artemus to satisfy his curiosity about the spherical room. After about 10 minutes of practice and experimentation, Artemus finishes his studies and the party continues on, heading towards the other closed door.

The clockwork door is locked, but Faeros feels like he can unlock it with a few minutes time.

After some time, Faeros hears a click and steps back, letting Nilfyr take point as usual.

With a nod, the door is opened.

Wide tables piled high with clockwork limbs, gears, and mounds of emerald crystal fragments line this large room. The north and south walls each hold a single door.

Nilfyr's eyes gaze upon a trio of what was once humans, but their heads are not of flesh but of green crystal, with a similar green crystal embedded in each person's robed chest. Further details are hard to tell as there are several images of each robed... thing standing in place. Instantly, the trio finishes an arcane incantation and several spells go off!

Artemus recognizes the spells as grease, glitterdust, and black tentacles.

Nilfyr: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Thunderstealer: 1d20 ⇒ 13

The onslaught of spells.... only mildly annoys the party as they resist blinding and grabbing the party, although a layer of grease separates the group from the spellslinging foes.

The group looks mildly annoyed, but continue their magical assault, now focusing a dozen magic missiles at Nilfyr!

Blue magic missile: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 1) + 4 = 13

White magic missile: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 3) + 4 = 14

Bloodied and pummeled by magical force, Nilfyr still stands, leaving the wizards to back up slightly.

Dark Archive

Thunderstealer will join Nilfyr, change into an Ankylosaurus and ready to vital strike the first enemy wizard that dares to cast a spell.

Thunderstealer orders Belcher to airwalk above the white wizard and to attack if they attack.

One of the wizards manages to resist Artemus' electricity, but the other two are savagely electrocuted.

Nilfyr removes two of the images, making one less blurry.

Faeros steps into sight and fires a barrage of arrows at the enemies.

Faeros' arrows finishes off two of the casters, leaving the white-robed one remaining. It turns its crystalline head, perhaps staring the party down, but on Thunderstealer's words, it kneels down in defeat.

Each wizard has a lesser metamagic rod, a headband of intellect +2 (Linguistics), tied around their necks, and a cloak of resistance +1. There are also 2 remaining scrolls of black tentacles.

Dark Archive

"Who are you and what can you tell us of this place?" Thunderstealer asks the white-robed wizard.

Thunderstealer will take one of the headbands.

Lesser metamagic rod of ...?

Fort Inevitable Map map Gardens map

Whoops, silence!

Thunderstealer asks his question, but the white robed wizard points to its crystalline head and its lack of a mouth now seems obvious out of the heat of battle. It then points to a nearby table laden with various arcane notes that are above Thunderstealer's knowledge... but he can surprisingly read the strange new language for Thunderstealer, it's Azlanti.

Artemus reviews the notes and finds various documents detailing using shards from the Emerald Spire core to retether souls back to their bodies, a unique and somewhat horrific form of resurrection.

Fort Inevitable Map map Gardens map

Hey guys,

So hopefully everyone is holding up with the craziness in the world right now.

First, I must apologize for taking a month to get the will to post here. Although I am physically ok as can be, my mental health has taken a toll but I think I have adjusted enough to get back to doing things again. Including this game.

Second, since I haven't heard from you guys in a while, just want to do a roll call in case anyone gave up on the game (understandable) or may not be in good health or situation.

So reply back when you can, but I will post again tomorrow afternoon.

Cheers,
GM Dave

Good to hear you guys are doing alright and that everyone has passed their Fort saves!

@Artemus: It is kind of an arcane resurrection; it does not involve any divine magic, but because the Spire core is such a strange and nearly alien material, it is hard to say what effect that has on the process. In either case, the fact that Nhur Athemon was able to use it to reconnect souls to dead bodies is a miracle of research in itself if you disregard the unnaturalness of it.

Any preparations or gathering of knowledge/materials before kicking down the next door? Updating tomorrow evening regardless

Fort Inevitable Map map Gardens map

Sorry it took so long, the prep for this next room took longer than I thought and RL stuff came up to get my store ready for reopening

The party prepares itself then goes through the next door.

More than a dozen door-sized, green crystal mirrors line the walls of this huge chamber. A balcony looms over the eastern extent of the room, with double doors on the east wall below it.

The Emerald Spire passes through the center of the room, though the spire here has been carved into an elaborate clockwork throne marked with ancient Azlanti symbols. The throne sits at the center of an intricate crystal mechanism situated between massive gears at the floor and ceiling. Sitting in the throne is an emaciated, obviously undead figure, one you have seen much of through this floor on various statues. "Ah, it seems the first of my subjects have arrived to do me homage. Be welcome, heroes! You are here just in time to stand witness to my finest hour.", greets Nhur Athemon from his throne.

A trio of arrows are aimed at the center of the warrior, although the crystalline exterior seemed to deflect some of the force from the initial arrow. It still stands although numerous cracks are visible throughout the unarmored form.

With Thunderstealer at the front, a trio of warriors block his entrance into the room and swing with their blades, one of them swinging twice.

However, the unnaturally hardened skin of the druid protects the soft squishy bits from harm!

Nhur Athemon laughs between spellcasting and now a green fog comes out at Thunderstealer's feet, its sickening scent showing signs of something worse from the fog.

@Nilfyr: Not to burst your bubble, the cloudkill will obscure your sight into the room so no hopping there. The life bubble makes you immune to the poison, but doesn't allow sight through. Now if you delay after Art and he finds a way to get rid of that pesky green fog then you're in the clear!

@Art: They are treated as constructs, bearing all of those immunities. Also, you surmise that bludgeoning weapons will be needed to thoroughly damage the crystalline exterior. Give the power of Nhur Athemon's magic, you wouldn't put it past you that there is some modicum of magical resistance built into his warriors, too.

And Nhur Athemon sure sounds like a lich. Will we have an arcane-off?

In this particular case, the power has the following description (emphasis mine):

Dimensional Hop wrote:
At 10th level, you can teleport up to 20 feet as a move action. You can increase this distance by expending another use of your blessing—each use spent grants an additional 20 feet. You must have line of sight to your destination. This teleportation doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity. You can bring other willing creatures with you, but each such creature requires expending one additional use of your blessing, regardless of the distance traveled. (For example, transporting yourself 40 feet costs 2 uses of your blessing, and transporting an additional creature this distance costs 1 more use.)

Given that, I expect the GM's ruling stands

Don't worry, there will be plenty of things to lightning soon enough!

Nilfyr and Thunderstealer nod at each other with a battle plan in mind, knowing the group's intellectual will have devised a plan to remove the offending poison cloud. Seconds later, a holy being is called forth and uses their magic to clear the gas.

Nilfyr moves the duo in, then rips into the crowd of warriors. Nilfyr knocks into one so hard that it practically falls to the ground on its own, although looking to fight. Unfortunately, that is its last thought as the giant club tail of a now transformed Thunderstealer ends its existence. Moving Thunderstealer into the desired location.

An oddly flustered Faeros only lands a single arrow against the foe, knowing he'll have to call upon greater powers soon to stave off the horde.

The warriors begin to pile into the adventurers, assaulting Faeros and Artemus with their blades!

Blue solid warrior blade @ Artemus: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 10 + 2 = 18
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6

Damage on hit: 1d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6

Faeros narrowly dodges his strike, while the other warrior manages to land a blow against Artemus!

One warrior approaches Thunderstealer, who gives it a mighty whack!

Thunder AoO: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (20) + 19 = 39
Damage on hit: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 4) + 28 = 41
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22
Extra damage on crit: 4d6 + 28 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 4) + 28 = 40

At the same time another warrior comes up, Nilfyr sending it crashing to the ground with his polearm! Thunderstealer doesn't have Combat reflexes so only 1 AoO for him, so I'll have you use yours to strike if possible. He tries to smash it as well, but he is thrown off as Thunderstealer's responsive strike utterly destroys his incoming foe, sending crystalline shards everywhere.

The black toned warrior moves to Nilfyr who introduces him to the floor with a flourish of his weapon. Both of the tripped warriors return to their feet.

The archers along the side pepper the ankylosaur with arrows!

Blue archer arrow @ Thunderstealer: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 2 = 16
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Blue red arrow @ Thunderstealer: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 2 = 20
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Both projectiles harmlessly bounce off Thunderstealer's thick hide.

The lich continues to cackle. "You amuse me with your antics. You might even be worthy adversaries!"

He works more arcane magic which precludes a barrier of ice separating Thunderstealer and Nilfyr from the rest of the party!

Nilfyr Reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Nilfyr tries to use his weapon to leave an opening in the wall before it finishes forming, but fails to stop it before it reaches the ceiling.

"Wouldn't you prefer to not play with my toys and rather deal with me?", the undead Azlanti cackles.

The fact that I only have 1 AoO is that I would usually save it for the Boss and not a mere minion :-P

Thunderstealer readies to disrupt Nhur Athemon's next spell (with a Vital Strike).

Male Human Arcanist (Occult) 12 [ HP 89/79 | AC 17/21/FF14/T14/18 | Fort +10, Ref +11, Will +12 | Init +5 | Perception +25

[ooc[ You forgot the second Azata who had readied a shot to disrupt any spell casting. Shall I roll for that or do you want to?[/ooc]

Art tries to counterspell the wall being cast. First he needs to identify the spell.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (13) + 27 = 40

If that succeeds, and it should he uses an arcane point to do a dispel check.

Dispel check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

If he is succesful his Counterdrain ability restores an arcane point back to his pool

I was reading the rules, and it looks like Artemus would've had to ready an action to counterspell the lich; since he was summoning at the time, I'm guessing that's a no-go, sorry. However, the Azata's arrow might do the trick (he said hopefully?).

If I'm reading correctly, Nilfyr still had an AoO available to smash one of the warriors that was tripped. If that's the case...
AoO (+2 Adamantine Fauchard (2H), Power Attack): 1d20 + 19 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 19 - 3 = 22 It's prone, but meh...
Damage (+2 Adamantine Fauchard (2H), Power Attack): 1d10 + 11 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 9 = 28 Just in case...

"I don't think you'll appreciate that..." Nilfyr quickly prays for Desna's favor, then casts another spell, at which point all sound ceases around the lich.

Swift action: Cast divine favor on himself (+3 to hit/damage)
Standard action: Cast silence (blue circle)

Did you read up on Arcanists? Art has the Counterspell Arcane Exploit. Immediate Action to counter - uses his swift next round but no need to ready.

No, I didn't, but sweeeet :-)

Just note that depending on the spell, you may have to be in the room with the lich to be able to dispel it, but since you can see the wall, you are good. Don't forget that it will eat up a level 5 spell slot, but you still have plenty of slots.

The azata tries to fire an arrow at the lich... but an invisible barrier blocks the arrow as it would cross the gear base of the throne!

The ice wall that forms is immediately disrupted by Artemus' quick thinking, causing the lich's cackle to turn into a bemused chuckle. "So you wish to make this a duel of magics, you inferior excuse for a wizard?"

@Nilfyr: I used up all of your AoOs previously, but since one of your attack rolls was a Nat 1, you only tripped 2 of the incoming foes. But if you wish to preroll some more again, go for it!

Nilfyr casts a spell to silence the lich's taunts, but a pale sphere becomes semi-opaque when the silence aura would envelop him. "Oh, you think I wouldn't have something prepared for such a feeble attempt while you were waiting outside my door, foolish elf?"

DC 19 Spellcraft check for sphere:

Looks like a globe of invulernability.

DC 20 Spellcraft check for barrier:

Given his love of walls, guessing that is a wall of force

@Thunderstealer: Because you will see that the azata's arrow failed to approach Nhur Athemon before your turn, you can change your action.

Also forgot to note the minor damage to Artemus. And can you put the azata's on the map? They may attract some attention/heat off of you Art!

Ok. I have added tokens for the Branali Azata to the map. Here are their stats. Note since at least one needed to threaten the lich I have them in the room with the lich. Is that good?

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Whirlwind Blast (Su)

When in wind form, a bralani can attack with a scouring blast of wind, dealing 3d6 points of damage in a 20-foot line (Reflex DC 17 half). The save DC is Constitution-based.
Wind Form (Su)

A Bralani can shift between its humanoid body and a body made of wind and mist as a standard action. In humanoid form, it cannot fly or use its whirlwind blast. In wind form, it functions as if under the effects of a wind walk spell. It can make slam attacks and use spell-like abilities in either form. A bralani remains in one form until it chooses to assume its other form. A change in form cannot be dispelled, nor does the bralani revert to any particular form when killed (both shapes are its true form). A true seeing spell reveals both forms simultaneously.

Seeing the lich protected from arrows, both Bralani cast mirror Image on themselves, put up their bows, their scimitars and step to threaten the minions.

As a move action Art Dimensionally steps away from the threat and casts a heightened +2 to DC of saves Chain Lightning striking all the warriors and possible arcing to the lich.

Chain Lightning: 12d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 3, 6, 4, 2, 2, 5, 4, 6, 3) = 46 DC26 Reflex for primary target and 24 for the rest. Primary is dotted line yellow

Lightning courses through the horde of green warriors, causing one to explode, but others still remain standing. The bolt is aimed at the lich, but the same invisible barrier that blocked the arrows stops the bolt in its track. "Truly, it is a shame that I will have to snuff your potential. But perhaps I shall reign you in rebirth as I have Lady Estrekan.", Nhur taunts.

Two points - 1 the DC was 26 for primary and 24 for secondary. Damage was 46 or 23. I was never saying secondary damage was 24. And 2) Chain Lightning is a 6th level spell and not normally blocked by Globe of Invulnerability.
