Sorry for the delay, all; my work has been especially distracting the past few weeks, and my fun has suffered as a result. Thanks for botting Nilfyr in the meantime.

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

Thanks for your patience! Family stuff is good and now caught up on things.
Leaving the deranged serpent man to himself, the party continues on. Turning the corner, they see an open chamber full of statues. In the center is a basalt statue of a serpentine figure, its head wreathed in flame. A dozen smaller statues are clustered on the floor. These depict a different serpentine figure, but all of the heads have been chopped off. A pathway through the statuary leads to double doors on the north left wall.

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

A better Kn: Religion would give that to you! I'll wait a bit longer, than move on moving on :)

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

At Artemus' best guess, the fallen statues are that of Ydersius, the snake god patron of serpentfolk. Ydersius was supposedly slain in an epic battle with Aroden when the snake god was beheaded by the Last Azlanti. However, the deity still lives in an raging form with head and legends say that if Ydersius' lost skull can be reunited with its body, the god will rise back to power ushering a new age for the serpentfolk.
Anything else? Otherwise, next door!

Nilfyr and Faeros find a hidden door against the west bottom wall!
Marked on map by the big S :)

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

Thunderstealer opens the door, revealing a hallway that curves to the north left. Letting Nilfyr take the lead, the party comes across a door. Taking their normal preparations, they find the door is untrapped, but there is the sound of footpacing on the other side.

The party hears in their heads...
Intruders! The only talking you will do is cries of mercy as I prepare you for Kro'akoth!
Nilfyr's blow strikes true, cutting into the serpent man!
Out from under the bed, fair-sized boa slithers out and bites Belcher, its blackened scales and feral horn-like protrusions showing that this is not an ordinary snake!

That was a dominate person the snake man just cast.
Kill your friends; slow them down, and slow down this brute and the archer.
You've been dominated! I'll trust you to RP this appropriately and to do so within your utmost lethality. You do get a new Will save with a +2 bonus each turn to end the effect, otherwise, I expect some tripping an' killing. This also means your allies will provoke AoO's from you, too, so have fun with that :)
Finally, the snake man seems to appear twice now, two forms of him sharing the same space!
This is like a mirror image, but he did it innately, as if a higher power called it.
Yes, this guy has Spell Resistance, so I'll need a SR check with any spell cast that allows it... of course I can guess what Artemus' next plan is.

Huh, I did miss that, well, cocky snake man's error is hopefully good for the party because bad stuff will happen otherwise!
While Thunderstealer fails to hit the snake man and by more than 5 so no auto popping the image, Belcher eventually rips into his snake captor, ending him.

Hmm. I cannot guess it. Art does not know Dispel Magic, yet. And now I need to wait to see Nilfyr's hit disuprts the full round spell casting. It was a fine hit but might have taken out the image, right?

Before Nilfyr can get to Faeros =)
You've had your chance, fiend, Faeros calls out, loosing two arrows with bane

Of course, killing the guy before the spell goes off also works!
@Artemus: I'd figure you'd summon something, since summoned monsters don't care about SR :)
Before the deadly spell would go off, Nilfyr and Faeros finish off the snake man, the arrows ending his life after the fauchard's staggering blow!
Now with some time to explore, they find the room has several bits of treasure. A leather pouch contains 55 platinum coins, 160 gold crowns, and a trio of rubies that are worth at least 100 gold apiece. There are a number of books, mostly old historical tomes, written in Aklo as Artemus notes to the others. Also, on the desk is a large serpent's fang made of stone that looks to be pried from something.
On the snakeman himself, you find a pair of matching +1 rapiers with red and green embellishments, a pearl of power (1st), and a gold unholy symbol of Kro'akoth.
Finally, Thunderstealer and Nilfyr note a secret door to the east upper wall.

Art packs away the books as he comments Nice job guys. That was a Dominate Person he was casting. Glad Nilfyr was not turned against us. Art considers the other gear and pockets the fang. I am betting we find a snake mouth to put this. he speculates.
Don't think Art can use the pearl he is sorta a spontaneous caster.

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

Thunderstealer almost pushes the Desnan into position and after the usual checks, open the door!
Double doors stand in the south wall of this huge temple. On the left and right of the door are six alcoves, some empty and some with rough bedding on the floor. In the center of the main chamber is an enormous pillar of green crystal. A stone serpent is wrapped around it, its head aflame. In the back of the chamber is a raised altar, and behind it a wall mosaic pulses with green light.
The alcoves contain nothing but bedding and other deritus. The room otherwise seems unoccupied.

Nilfyr peers around the room, confirming there is nothing else of interest evident, then moves to open the door on the west wall.

GM is here, just recovering from a rough martial arts lesson and a lack of sleep!
As Nilfyr begins to peer around, Thunderstealer asks about the statue, but they see that all of its teeth are intact. Nilfyr spies that the gray area around the green pillar is a bit that seems to have a hissing sound; he looks down and sees that is filled with writhing serpents! Before he can do anything else though, a voice echoes in the room in Common.
"Have you come to seek the wisdom of the prophet? Swear allegiance to the Awakener and my prophecy will be but the first of the gifts you receive!"

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

Artemus finds an aura in the center of the room. Another 2 rounds before you can pinpoint and identify it!
"You wish to deny the Awakener's gifts? Then you shall be his next sacrifices!"

GM BPChocobo TK2 |

@Faeros: Kn: Arcana, and unfortunately, you can guess naga, but that's it.
This is a Dark Naga, a serpent-like creature with the head of a human and a dangerous stinger. They can cast magic like sorcerors while the stinger is capable of causing sleep. They can also read throughts natively, but are immune to such effects themselves!
Thunderstealer illuminates the foe, allowing Faeros and Belcher to strike unerringly!
Artemus moves up and throws a snowball at the serpent, hoping its cold blood does not take kindly to the magic.
Artemus snowball: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 7 - 4 = 23

Extra damage on crit: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 6, 2) = 21
??? Fort on hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
The snake-thing shudders violently as the cold rocks is slithery body.
Cast defensively: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
In anger, it retaliates at Artemus with a bolt of lightning!
Lightning damage: 7d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 5, 4, 5, 1) = 25
Artemus Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Artemus is caught off-guard and is quite burned by the attack!
At this point, calling combat as the creature cannot handle a full attack from Faeros and Belcher, on top of what Thunderstealer and Nilfyr can do in a single hit.
The party then gangs up and thoroughly defeats the serpent creature!
Among the swarm of snakes are several jeweled death masks, although getting them without jumping into the pit does seem hazardous without clever ideas.
Technically, there is a snake swarm in the pit, too, but unless you go INTO the pit, then you're safe. The treasure is non-magical, and I won't penalize you for leaving it be for the sake of time.
A single door remains unopened.

Nice Attack on my part. :) FYI I am here and I guess did not realize it was my turn. I think I was waiting for it to act.
