Male Human Paladin 1

Brotherhood:

"Good, eyes open don't let these little bastards nip our heels and lets move out!"

Again Kora gained what momentum he could safely and cursed his way down he hill. Power jogging as far as he could before slowing down once more. However he kept an eye out as he watched for he mutants of the waste. He hoped they found something useful in that vault...

Brotherhood:
As Kora and Sagittarii quickly move down to the vault, Sagittarii tactically scans left to right with his rifle up to the ready.

They are doing something like what is shown in the picture...

I see the link doesn't work. Any way, both Sagittarii and Kora moved down to the Vault tactically. Sagittarii will adjust to Kora's movement.

Gulchbottom Group:

After regrouping and sharing information, you all swing by the Cavern and the Guard outpost, where you retrieve your caps from Ian and Mia, respectively. "Just make sure and find out what you can," Ian growls as he hands over the caps, shooting a scowl at the little ghoul who demanded extra up front. "Last thing we need is greedy mercenaries running off with our money." If you want to make any last-minute store stops, do that now.

That said, you head out of town up the road to the Vault. It's a few hours past lunch by the time you're heading out--maybe between three and four in the afternoon. The trip itself is mostly uneventful--the heat is strong on your backs, but not unbearable, and you make pretty good time. As you near the Vault, you begin to see small graves and markers by the roadside, usually a dozen or two feet off the path. Most markers are simple affairs of scavenged wood, stone, or metal, often without any particular designation as to who's buried there. The narrow path winds its way up the hill, and you can see, set by the hillside, the same "sh*tty little shack" that Gramp mentioned. Propped to one side of the door is the motionless chassy of an old Protectron bot...

On a DC 15 Perception check (this counts with the 20 spoiler below) you also notice two humanoids appearing to be made of metal--either robots or wearing armor.

Brotherhood:

One. Last. Hill. The damn hills are everywhere, but according to your coordinates, this is the last one you have to cross.

As you crest it, you see a shack a ways forward, built against the side of a cliff--presumably, this is the front for the Vault. You also see a path leading up to this shack, some different graves and markers around the path, and a group of people--five tall, one shorter, child-sized, and a dog--moving up the path toward the shack.

Perception DC 20:

You also notice two still forms just outside the half-open door of the shack. They appear to be humanoid, and it looks like a dark liquid--blood?--is seeping out from under them.

I need two Perception checks from everyone, actually; the first for the spoiler above, and the second on its own. No taking 20. Also, congratulations! You've finally hooked up as a full group!... Let's hope you don't start shooting each other.

Perception Check - DC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Perception Check - DC 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

If the first checks means unknown or enemy contact, Sagittarii quickly gets down in the kneeling position ... "Unknown contact, Sir!" ... Sagittarii aims for the one who is most armed and the action of kneeling forced Sagittarii to miss the 2nd observation ... Or the second perception (DC20) check.

Finally they crested that last, g+% d++med, hill and if it hadn't been for being clad in powered armor he'd have been damned tired by now. With thoughts of the LAT or an APC on his mind he damn near walked right into the vault and the approaching crowd of people. Had it not been for Sagi's prompt warning he probably would have...

Kora holds his hand, palm down, over his head to signal that he wants Sagi to cover this area as he steps forward into full view of the approaching group. He doesn't pull off his helmet, but he does temporarily lower his laser rifle as he speaks up through his helmets dead pan enunciation. "Greetings, I'm Junior Paladin Kirion from Delta Bunker, I've got orders to ensure this place is cleared out and would like to know who you are and your business here?" He eyed them, looking them over for any ill intent as he waited for their response...

Kora puts both hands on his Laser Rifle at the strange man and dog's reactions, while simultaneously stepping back and to the side to stay out of Sagi's way if he needed to take a shot. He wasn't outright hostile yet but the sudden reaction of ducking for cover was leading him to believe this was some sort of setup...

The tiny ghoul, not paying close enough attention to his surroundings, takes a few steps beyond the dreadlocked doctor and his dog before noticing they had ducked behind cover.

Oh, sugar.

With the paladin now in sight, Gergg freezes, then slides slowly off to the side of the path, hoping one of the smoothskins will take the lead in conversation with the stranger.

Sagittarii scans left and right covering all of the contacts just in case one or all of them twitch ... "I have your back, Sir!" ... Sagittarii smiled when he saw Kora purposely taking time of being aware of Sagittarii's field of fire.

Unless told to do otherwise, i'm going to hold off onposting further until the rest of them get a chance to post. ;)

If nobody stops him in time

Winter, having been so cruelly disappointed at the site of the Pre-War man, steps forward, pulling a grubby pamphlet from the recesses of his costume.

"Atom's blessing upon you, traveller! We are Good Samaritans, spreading the White Father's Word about the waste and presently lending a helping hand to the people of Gulchbottom. Tell me, are you saved?"

**RESERVED FOR FALLOUT or TECH**

Keeping eye on the contacts, Sagittarii whispers to Kora, "Sir, What do think, Followers of the Apocalypse or Hubologists?"

Wow, I role played that correctly since Sagittarii does not have the Knowledge - Religion skill and I thought it was either the Followers or Hubologists.

Female Human (vanilla) Wasteland Sovereign 1 [Machinesmith(CombatEngineer/Bombadier)/Scholar]

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
And the other... 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

"Guuuuhhhhllll....." says the cheerful sprite in a state of alarm, trailed with an Ooooh damn. This could get sticky.

Is it obvious that they are Brotherhood?

Deirdre facepalmed herself and shook her head when Winter started evangelizing. She steps forward, attempting to interrupt him as courteously as possible.

"Please excuse the spiritual molestation. He speaks for only 20% of the group... which is himself. The name's Deidre." She displays a friendly wave and flashes a conspicuous smile of pearls. "What exactly do you mean by clear out, if you don't mind me asking? It's an indoor graveyard. Not sure you'll find much. We're here on a rescue mission, so our two objectives might clash. You know.... purge... saving lives... water and fire. Perhaps if we knew more about what you're trying to do, we could maybe make each others' lives easier without tampering with either party's objectives."

Male Human Paladin 1

Editing as Deidre chimed in the same time I did. lol

Kora doesn't know of the Hubologists and he didn't expect nor hear that the Followers were in the area. The way they were scattering though wasn't a good indication of their possible intention's either. "Neither, this one is a CoA."

With all the movement his sensor's were going absolutely looney, several pings rang quietly in his helmet as his HUD tried to keep track of the various movements. With how closely they were bunched together though it made the attempt useless for the most part. He raises his laser rifle slightly, in an attempt to stop this Good Samaritan from stepping any closer. "Don't come any closer preacher and please tell me how your lending Gulchbottom...." He paused as the woman, Deidre, spoke up. After a moment he shifted his attention to her instead and lowered his laser rifle a fraction as her information sounded interesting.

"We have information that this area was seeing strange activity, possible SM's in the area, we came to scout out the area and the vault to ensure this place remained secure and the general populace wasn't endangered."

Note: Kora isn't aim his laser rifle at anyone, more towards the ground in a fashion to show he's ready to use it if needed but not outright threatening anyone with it. Besides accidental discharges are known to happen. Who says technology is reliable! :p

M Half-elf Gunslinger (Siege Gunner) 1/ Alchemist (Grenaider) 1

You notice Darius edging away from the knights hand on his pistol. He looks around everywhere but then but the whole group can tell thats where he is focused.

Lets go we don't have time to waste on the brotherhood folks

If the brotherhood gents are watching they noticed his pistol is rather advanced bit of weaponry.

**RESERVED FOR FALLOUT or TECH**

Sagittarii thinks in his head, "Who the h*ll is CoA?", but will ask about it later. Frivolous questions are not needed at this time. Sagittarii aims his laser rifle in the general direction of Darius since he is twitching too close to that PPK12 Gauss Pistol.

GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

Amidst all of your talking...

Winter and Deidre:

You notice some forms lurking behind some of the rocks and markers closer to the Vault, higher up the hill, some fifty feet away. They look a little smaller than humans, and bent close to the ground. There are three of them, and one looks a bit bigger than the others.

If you want, you have one move action now before initiative count starts. I'd suggest pulling a weapon. You can also warn your allies, of course.

Gergg:

You notice three forms lurking behind some rocks and markers closer to the Vault, higher up the hill. They're about fifty feet away. Peering closer, you can see that two of the shapes are those of wild dogs--one normal sized, the other larger than usual. The third form looks to be similar, but you can't be positive as to its nature.

You have a move action here, Gergg, before initiative starts for the encounter. I'd suggest that you pull a weapon. You can also warn your allies, of course.

M Half-elf Gunslinger (Siege Gunner) 1/ Alchemist (Grenaider) 1

Looks at SagittariI and assesses him wondering if he can hit that little chink in his power armor before he is gunned down.

I wouldn't do it you brotherhood lackey. Its not worth your life. I was taking down men tougher than you long before you were born. Let us go and we will let you go.

His hand rests on his pistol. In his mind he has already picked which way to move for cover and is thinking about how far to over chare the capacitors on his pistol for better penetration.

Female Human (vanilla) Wasteland Sovereign 1 [Machinesmith(CombatEngineer/Bombadier)/Scholar]

Taking a free action to speak while taking a move action to draw my sniper rifle to get a better look at the creatures. Also, I'd like to forego my initiative and do a readied action instead. If so...

Readied Action: If the larger unidentified creature takes a move action toward the party or the brotherhood, she'll make an attack against it.

If this is a no, then I'll roll initiative when you say to.

"Hey, come on D. We're here for basically the same reason. Why provo... ooo... one second... " peers through scope at moving objects. "I got something up on the hill."

**RESERVED FOR FALLOUT or TECH**

Sagittarii does not respond nor appears to be concern with Darius' threats nor changes his apparent concentration at this time.

Is the Brotherhood above the group so the crest of the hill can be used for cover? How far are they away? Is there other cover nearby? Of course, I am not truly looking for a fight hence why Sagittarii is playing it cool. Also, did Sagittarii hear or notice what Deidre is looking at?

GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

Sagittarii: The Brotherhood members have crested the hill and even taken some steps toward the other group, so no cover. Your two groups are maybe forty feet apart, and there are various rocks and burial markers in the vicinity which you could duck behind if need be. You didn't see what she's looking at.

Deidre: No readying outside of combat is a rule I hate, but in this case, I'm sticking with it, because initiative will determine how close it gets before you take the shot and that sort of deal. If you beat initiative, you'll definitely get the scope-in and a shot if you like. If not, you'll get to after its turn.

I'm going to wait on Gergg and Winter for their decisions in regards to what they noticed, or tomorrow morning, whichever comes first.

As his dog starts to barking, getting a wiff or a sound of something on the wind. He looks about behind his rock under full 100% cover, seeing nothing Camper calls out,

"De Channel be changing viewers, now this shows an old style maxi-can standoff, but viewers with unseen bandits all around its going to be a rootin toootin shoot out real soon"

He hunkers down with his dog he muzzlesnot knowing where the danger is and to scared to get up for fear of all the guns.

Male Human Paladin 1

The moment he hears Darius's words to Sagi his Laser Rifle is up and aimed. There is no hesitation, Kora doesn't give a frag about this man and his tone make's him no better then a raider in his mind. "Hand off your weapon! And we will lower ours. I won't say it again!" If their insignia's weren't emblazoned on their power armor he'd understand their edginess but he was astounded with how ignorant a stand off would be...

Command was going to burn him alive if this came to a head. Especially if Sagi gets killed because of some unhinged wastelander hate for the brotherhood...

I dislike PVP but the above warrants a heavy handed response from Kora. Sorry Darius. ;)

**RESERVED FOR FALLOUT or TECH**

Once Sagittarii hears Kora's words, he changes weapons to reinforce them. This next weapon that Sagittarri brings to bear has (3) green glowing electromagnetic barrels pointing in the Gulchbottom group's general direction and Darius knows that a well placed shot from this weapon will bring the target a bubbling demise. However, the well trained Midwest Brotherhood of Steel Knight remains cool.

M Half-elf Gunslinger (Siege Gunner) 1/ Alchemist (Grenaider) 1

[B] Boy you dont threaten. I have dealt with too many of the thieving brotherhood to be scared of you. You might be different but I doubt it. The brotherhood pretends to he something they were never worthy to be and have forgotten the meaning of.... but we have other problems. I suggest we take care of them and then deal with our problems. I won't shoot you and you won't steal from me until whoever is trying to bushwack us is dealt with. This is about to go from a snafu to fubar..... if we don't. So how say you? [B]

He clicks a button on his pistol and the capacitors whine under the overcharge as he slips from his shoulder with an ease that bespeaks long training a laser rifle and readies it.

Grand Lodge

M Ghoul "halfling" Ranger 2 (Deep Walker), Urban Barbarian 1, Rogue 1

"Uhh, hate to interrupt your tough-talk competition, but we've got company. Looks like 3 wild dogs coming our way. One of them looks suspiciously big, though."

Gergg unholsters his pistol and extends his arms out to his sides to show he's not drawing his gun on the paladins.

"Relax, lead-heads, I'm just getting out my piece in case those mutts fancy a bite of ghoul jerky."

Male Human Paladin 1

Kora doesn't let the unhinged wastelander's talk distract him; he didn't know nor care about the mans claims of unjust treatment. He doesn't twitch when the ghoul draws his pistol as the former continues to ignore the fact that he has a laser rifle trained on him and talks like he could take down a pair of brotherhood soldiers. Whatever was distracting part of their group however was of growing concern and he spoke low enough for only Sagi to hear.

"Eyes high, pin point these new contacts I will cover you."

He aimed off slightly in the directionthe little ghoul pointed as he prepared to move forward a few paces. Focusing on fire and movement as he had stated earlier while keeping laser rifle in a position to return fire if it came to it.

im not actually moving forward yet. i will once the first round start and all that~ O:-)

**RESERVED FOR FALLOUT or TECH**

Like a well oiled machine, Sagittarii quickly places his back to Kora with some distance in between to form a 360 degree offense\defense position and awaits for THE DOG TARGET(s) to appear to determine what weapon should be used to engage the new contact. If either of the contacts have strong enough weapons to penetrate through one Power Armor into the other or destroy both with one blast weapon, then the Brotherhood Fire Team will have the same fate as Fang Squad.

Unfortunately, Darius, you won't get to do that for a moment.

Map, any chance GM?

**RESERVED FOR FALLOUT or TECH**

A map would definitely be nice. I or we may have to adjust depending on the current and true positioning.

GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

Okay, I'll be looking at Excel shortly. I know that it takes some time to use and is far from top-of-the-line mapping software, but I think it'll do well enough. For now, no maps; use your IMAGINATION! I promise to be very forgiving in the way of cover and concealment--i.e., unless I say "Okay, he's partially hidden behind a wall," then it doesn't matter.

Combat: Surprise Round!

As Winter swings his gun and crouches behind a nearby stone, two of the dogs charge the group.

The biggest of the creatures moves first, charging at the most prominent target nearest its location: Darius. So intent on its target that it doesn't see Winter off to the side, it lets out a bark as the bullet punches into its flank, growling as it launches itself at the military man.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
CMB Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Though his military training would normally let him dodge the clumsy biting, Darius is caught unawares and the big dog grips his leg, dragging him to the ground. Darius takes 1 point of damage and is now prone.

The other dog is nearer to the Brotherhood members and rushes toward them, though they are slightly too far away for it to reach as the battle opens.

Next up is Gergg!

Grand Lodge

M Ghoul "halfling" Ranger 2 (Deep Walker), Urban Barbarian 1, Rogue 1

"S#;t!" Gergg shouts as the huge dog whips the imposing Darius to the ground with ease.
He levels his pistol on the beast and fires wildly before diving for cover beside Camper and his dog.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5

GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

Gergg's shot goes far wide, his aim thrown off by the suddenness of the attack. Even as the gunshot rings out, the third dog comes charging in, though it is also slightly too far away to reach the group just yet.

Deidre's up, then Surprise Round's over and the first full round starts up. Also, as a note, I'm going to allow AoO's with ranged weapons within 5 feet, and any feats that normally allow that add to the range. Not sure if I want ranged weapon firing to offer an AoO, though... Anyway, the dogs are quite close, certainly within range.

Deirdre quickly switches targets as the larger dog becomes obstructed as Darius defends against it. She quickly aims her obviously "DIY" sniper rifle toward the dog at the right of the stairs, lets out a slow exhale, and then squeezes the trigger...

No problem Deidre, normally I probably wouldn't have said anything if I wasn't working on a Cisco Nexus 7K upgrade last night for (14) hours. Ouch, I hear that Winter! That's a grazing critical hit ... LOL!

GameMaster Armadillephant GameMaster

Deidre's shot punches into the animal's hide just above its right foreleg (the dog I forgot to move, by the by--oops on my part), and the animal howls in pain.

Surprise Round Sum-up
Winter shoots the Big Dog as it charges.
Big Dog bites and trips Darius, dealing 1 damage and bringing him prone.
Dog 1 moves toward the Brotherhood.
Gergg fires and misses.
Dog 2 comes out of hiding and... uh... whatever.
Deidre shoots Dog 2.

Round 1 starts now!

Init Order:
