Yagga Nightquill

Yagga's nervous energy subsides somewhat as the group is reunited. He continues to blink and look around warily. While the others investigate the door, he paces the room, studying the walls to see if anything is unusual.

There's no trap on the door that Tarra can find, and nothing unusual in the room apart from the hidden entrance as far as Yagga can tell. However, the keen-eared halfling hears something strange from beyond the stone door. It's like... a squelching, wet, sliding sound, kind of like a mop being dragged back and forth across a floor.

mayhaps it would be in our best interest to explore the rest if the facility before irritating those who lurk beyond. If they had the means to exit the door they would have most certainly done so when we made such a racket entering the premises Imperia whispers to the group and the last thing I want is to be stabbed in the back ... No offence Tarra
Tarra Spindlethorn

Tarra shudders and winces when she hears the squishy sounds, all manner of unpleasant thoughts run amok through her imagination...
" None taken, Imperia. Why would that offend me? i don't stab people in the back...The butt or knee maybe..." She responds with a nervous laugh.
" I agree lets check the rest of the cellar first."
Yagga Nightquill
|
"All right, it's a plan." Yagga goes to the first door on the right in the hallway and checks it before opening.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
| GM Alice |
Yagga, as you enter the hallway, you notice something strange in the north wall just above the desk: there's a brick sticking out maybe half an inch, and it's clear the mortar hasn't been sealed around it. Probably a loose brick.
Most of the doors along this hallway are cell doors, each with a small window at eye level blocked by three vertical iron bars that allow you to peek inside. Matted straw is strewn across the floor of the cell, and a set of manacles hangs affixed to the wall opposite the entrance. In the first cell you peek into, two buckets sit at the very centre of the prison, and nothing else. However, in the cell opposite it, you spy a dwarven woman bound to the wall by the manacles hanging there. Dressed in nothing but dirtied and tattered undergarments, her skin is purpled with bruises and her cheeks gaunt from malnourishment. Two more dwarves hang in a similar state in the two cells below her--one, a dark-skinned male who looks not dissimilar to Amauhak, and the other, a burly man with lashes down his bare chest.
The dwarves appear to be alive, if barely.

Elvis draws his sword in preparation to defend the birdmen should anything attack from the front. He whispers,

with a loud clattering sound Imperia unlocks the doors to the cells holding the prisoners "is this all of them?she asks as she struggles to undo the manacles that hold them.

"Stars above!" Yagga exclaims at the odd findings in the box, but his attention goes to the prisoners. "Don't worry, we are friends. Does someone have a healing wand?" He offers the prisoners some water.

Why can't they put the windows at MY level....
" You found them? Great!" Tarra hustles over and peers at the prisoner's chains.

With a bit of trial and error to determine the correct key, Imperia is able to unlock the door into the female dwarf's cell. The door swings open with a loud and piercing screech of creaking metal, a noise that causes the cell's occupant to slowly raise her head and look up at you. Though her gaze seems at first to be stoically neutral, upon seeing the group, a flicker of confusion flashes across her weathered features. "Who... Who are--" she manages to croak, voice raspy from dehydration.
However, before you can do much to help her and her companions, there's a dull thud from behind you, down the hallway. A section of the wall, previously appearing to have been mortar, has been pushed open, revealing two slimy, roiling masses of flesh practically falling over themselves to emerge into the corridor. Amid the fatty surge wriggle half-formed limbs and a dripping tumorous face, and when the bulging, cancerous eyes spot you, the creatures gurgle in delight!

Ryskovich, Yagga, and Aparctias are up.

"Eurgh, it's that sound. Digusting." Aparctias manages to tear his gaze from the ugly creatures to look at where they came from. "I guess we figured out where that secret door led to."
Aparctias frowns, in no position to aid the others and not trusting his aim enough to fire in such a cramped position.
"I can't do anything here. Ryskovich, with me!"
He turns, moving through two halflings to enter the room they came from.
Double move back a room to the secret door. Aparctias sheathes his fighting fan while moving in order to free his hands. What kind of action is required to open the door? Because he'll open it next round. This is assuming we hadn't closed the door behind us because then I'll have to spend another action to open that door.

Ryskovich lingers back, looking for a chance to engage, while Aparctias dashes around to get behind the strange, gooey creatures. Yagga's bruise begins to slowly fade as he lays into the enemies before him - alas, in these cramped quarters he finds it difficult to swing his sword. Luckily, tengu come equipped with their own weaponry, and he sinks his beak into the fleshy mound. Alas, despite pulling in an attempt to rip part of it off, he just can't muster enough force to do any long-lasting damage. There's something about the bizarre make-up of this creature that seems to be resisting his attack... (Damage Reduction blocked that damage, sorry.)
Just before Yagga draws his face away from the pile of writhing, pinkish flesh, it reaches up and grabs his beak, attempting to tug it out of his skull! The tengu is able to easily pull away, but that still hurt a little bit. (1 damage) Elvis, meanwhile, suffers a minor blow to the sternum as the second weakly pummels into him. (1 damage)

Elvis manages to cut open a small gash in the strange, slimy creature's defenses, stepping aside to allow Imperia to take good use of his efforts. The paladin sinks her blade right in the same place Elvis had cut through, struggling only momentarily against the evil forces defending it before bisecting right through the middle of the strange little fiend. It gurgles and creels before melting into a pool of foul-smelling goo on the ground.

With Imperia and Yagga's simultaneous sword-strikes, the second roiling mound of flesh creels before blubbing away into a sticky puddle of tar on the ground.
Meanwhile, the dwarven woman gratefully accepts the waterskin and takes a minute or so relishing the opportunity to hydrate herself. "Thank you, missy," she says after a turn, already sounding much better after even a few mouthfuls of water. "They really haven't been treating us well here..." She looks over Tarra appraisingly, then glances over the halfling's shoulder at those figures she can spy in the corridor beyond. "I'm impressed that you Pathfinders managed to find us. Tarra moves along the cells and finds the keys to unlock the other two dwarves. Both dwarven men are in an equally as exhausted state, gladly accepting any food and water offered to them. Of the two, Pechas Domri appears to be a sand dwarf much like Amauhak, and he has the faint scent of alchemical reagents about him, while the other, Holfist Sendstrom, has a burly and muscular physique. Pechas murmurs to you as his chains are broken, "Thank you, thank you--may the blessings of the Diamond Sage be upon you..."
As the dwarves get their bearings, recover from dry lips and rub the chafing spots on their arms where the manacles had restrained them, Rakuska explains their story. "We tried to bypass Xer in the hopes that it would help us save the money from the tolls--well, that was a terrible idea... we got waylaid by a faith barge somewhere down the river. They tried to extort all our funds from us, which, of course, we refused. So... they came on board for a fight." She grins toothily. "We took down quite a few of them before they managed to overwhelm us with numbers, though. F**k them, hope they all rot."
"They chained us up and threw dark hoods over our heads, and didn't take 'em off until we were at the inn. We saw the smiling old ladies only when we first arrived, and that mute boy that brings us food from time to time. Snuck us some pastries once or twice, bless his soul."
"But we've been interrogated twice by a merciless Razimiri cleric. She calls herself Holy Ahendile, whatever that bloody means. She's convinced we're here for some 'subversive, nefarious purpose'... she's a total nutter, in other words."
Imperia Lexia

" Wull, regardless of who killed who and did what, WE also had a run in with dock guards and aren't on anybody's birthday list! So I suggest we stop jabbing at one another and leave. Quickly!"
Grinning mischievously Tarra continues..
" After we rob them blind of course..."
Winking at Imperia she gathers her gear and starts herding the dwarves to the stable exit.
She pauses on the way remembering something...
" Oh. Hey! Does this necklace belong to one of you?"
She asks holding up the symbol of Torag she found.
Aparctias

I have neither, and no one in our group seems to have it. I'll most likely ask Pechas Domri, who smells alchemical, or someone else though.
"Would you happen to know what these are?" Aparctias says, showing the box and its contents to Pechas. He adds to the other dwarves, "That cleric sounds like trouble. Most likely to come after us, so we'd best leave soon."
"While they recover, let's look for anything else of use," he says to Tarra.
I kind of want to explore the rest of the place. Just a quick go in, look around, grab whatever is useful, move on, then get out. Especially any other components. I have a suspicion on what they are, but whatever the case is, better with us than left behind.

"That... that is my hair," he says, picking up one of the tiny bundles of hair tied up with a piece of string. Holding it up to his beard hair shows that it is indeed a perfect match. "The other hair looks to be from Rakuska and Holfist as well... and I can only guess with the blood." The sand dwarf grimaces. "I cannot tell you what this is for, but I imagine it is not entirely pleasant. Is there magic that needs a sample of its target...?"
