Oh man you guys have no idea how badly I've wanted to play a game like DnD since I was like, twelve years old. Never been able to find a gaming group that'd let me join. Seriously can't begin to express how stoked I am to have discovered this website.

I'm starting my own PF group in a couple weeks, all of us newbies to the game, and this is really whetting my appetite.

Things should pick up soon. We have a good group here and my first time running Pbp so let me know if something is not working well.

I mainly am able to post at night, so that give you all day to rrespond.

Also, I do not think this applies to anyone, but since this mod is one of the few replayable if you have played it before, PM me if you have...but do not spoil the surprises for the new players.


Really I just wanted the soonest excuse to cast that spell. Check it off, xbox achievment style.

Pretty much most of what Thessel does is a comedic performance. I don't expect the roles to make much difference most times (don't know if they would anyway) just like to see how funny he is ;p

Ok this should be interesting. I think in order to give everyone a chance to act, I will roll and list initiatives for everyone that enters the room. You can then state your action for the round.

I will apply actions in the order of initiative rather than order of posting. This allows late posters a chance to act.

If you want to wait until your turn before posting, that is acceptable as well.

So for now I just need to know who is going in....

newb question on taking 20. I am assuming every one of these chests are trapped seeing this is most probably a test. (barring a wall falling down and us being attacked by a horde of goblins) that being said should I be taking 20 on perception for traps and disable device for these chests? Can I take 20?

that would be logical right?

Nope, you can not Take 20 on any skill which you might fail. Here's the rule taken straight from PRD:

Taking 20: When you have plenty of time, you are faced with no threats or distractions, and the skill being attempted carries no penalties for failure, you can take 20. In other words, if you a d20 roll enough times, eventually you will get a 20. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, just calculate your result as if you had rolled a 20.

Taking 20 means you are trying until you get it right, and it assumes that you fail many times before succeeding. Taking 20 takes 20 times as long as making a single check would take (usually 2 minutes for a skill that takes 1 round or less to perform).

Since taking 20 assumes that your character will fail many times before succeeding, your character would automatically incur any penalties for failure before he or she could complete the task (hence why it is generally not allowed with skills that carry such penalties). Common “take 20” skills include Disable Device (when used to open locks), Escape Artist, and Perception (when attempting to find traps).

So i can take 20 to find the traps but not to disable device? but i can take 10 to disable device.

To archmoon, it would be more of a kn:local for info about these specific vaults. Dungeoneering would be good in natural caves.

The actions could be correct, but taking 20 on any skill or roll will take 2+ minutes, so there could be 19 rounds of others acting before you finish searching. Just saying...

I saw one post from Elindriel and replied. Just waiting for Thessel.

Also, for future reference, I will grant a player 24 hours to post their action. After that period, in the interest of keeping things moving, I will put them into delay, defend or repeat last action as appropriate.

Once they return, I can try to backtrack their actions to the extent possible. Real life happens, so want to give everyone a chance. Let me know if this does not work out for everyone.

BTW - I have been having occasional internet issues, so I may be replacing my DSL modem tomorrow. It should not impact my ability to post...but just in case there is a delay.

Keeping track of whats going on is proving hard! Some actions after taking into account initiative will be rendered moot or conflicting with other actions, etc. I guess I'm seen now the technical difficulties a PbP game can present.

That said, im enjoying it a lot so far, looks like the group is a very diverse bunch of characters for sure!

Yes, balancing the different times that people post makes it tricky. But I found if you do not do rounds, someone that posts 10x per day could be done with with the room/combat etc before another person even gets to see the description. That is why I am willing to adjust based on prior actions if stated action no longer makes sense.

Now, lets see what kind of fun we have going in round 2...

I believe my danger action would take hold in round 2 since Thessel yelled with damage breaking all concentration I just try to open the chest.

Right, your concentration is broken...so you try to open the chest..but the lock is one of the best you have seen (edited the gameplay post for you).

Another question:

Is it possible to change class archetypes between campaigns, or add one if you are using the basic class settings? I still don't understand how the archetype system works.

I believe archetypes have to be selected when you first take a class but cannot be changed after that...it is part of the class.
