Im mostly just gauging interest right now but most likely it would be somewhere in the 5-10th level range.
I don't have a very fleshed out world yet but I'm thinking of a military setting. Pcs would be highly trained operatives on an elite team sent out for only the most critical of missions.

I'm totally open to ideas so if there is a specific type of campaign you would like me to run feel free to suggest it. I'm not going to run an existing campaign though so don't ask.

Silver Crusade

Dot.

Ooh sounds fun. Like Marvel agents of shield in a fantasy setting. me likes. are you planning on using golarion or some other setting?

This could be a great deal of fun, I've always wanted to run a professional military campaign!

Sounds interesting and you'll probably have a lot of optimizers come out of the woodwork to jump on board. :)

None of the games I've played in has gone on long enough for me to get a sorcerer up to a decent level and I'd love to play one when he/she 'comes into' his/her own.

In terms of suggestions, I'd say don't go too crazy with the 'high power' setting. A generous point buy and higher level start is fantastic but be leery of throwing things open to any race including the ARG custom builds, gestalt, unlimited dipping, etc. Just about every high power 'anything goes' game I've seen on this board has gone awry pretty quickly when all the stops are pulled out. Just my two cents.

@Stormraven - I wasn't planning on really crazy. i have played a few custom race, high level, gestalt campaign and they didn't last long. My plan is to start at level 7 probably with a generous point buy, but other than that it will be pretty standard in terms of classes/races.

Silver Crusade

Sounds fun

Sounds great, 7th level provides us with a ton of options.

I'll have to think long and hard about what I'd want to play!

Sczarni

I'm interested. I have a few characters I haven't been able to push in terms of level and/or play after the campaign died.

A couple would be a Cleric of Iomedae and A Druid with a T-Rex companion. My personal favorite would be a Trophy Hunter Ranger I was gonna use in a Shadow of the Colossus game. I still have all the character sheets on the Paizo forums, just need an update or two.

A few more are available, but there would be one catch for me.

My computer is kaput. If I post, it would be fairly erratic and would be done either on my phone with the Wayfinder app(which hasn't been working since the recent site update) or my wife's computer.

And I run a couple of my own games. Those hurt too, but not bad.

If you'd like a complete list of my available characters and needed changes, give me a shoutout.

As for ideas, I like things simple. However you like to run things, go for it.

Sweet! Sounds like a very fun game then!

Sczarni

Another thing I would like to point out, if we are going over the terms of overpowered stuff, I will definitely be asking a lot of questions regarding magic items and possible firearm use.

Very much interested. Dotting for interest.

Ok there seems to be a decent amount of interest right now here are the character creation rules.

Here is an idea that i have seen go both well and terribly, let me know what you think.
Each PC may take one template (CR +1 or +0). while it might seem strange it adds a more unique feeling to the characters and gives them a fun little edge.

Creation rules:

NO 3RD PARTY
classes: any classes or archetypes are allowed including play test classes
Race: any core or common races.
Alignment: no evil
Level: level 7
wealth: level 7 starting wealth + max for class
common firearms

Because this is a military campaign crunch is important, but fluff is still more important for selecting characters. I will probably choose a half crunched dwarven bard with a fantastic backstory over a min maxed half-orc barbarian who can one shot everything but doesn't have a past.

Well, this sounds quite interesting. ^^ Military role, eh? I'll see what I can come up with.

Question: I'm attempting to build a samuri but an issue I've run into before is Samuris get a free mount but a lot of Campaigns or DMs say "Sorry, you're mount can't enter X dungeon" and so he loses some of his bonuses. Obviously I can take an archetype and I'm cool with that I'm just curious to if that's needed or not.

Sczarni

I like the idea of including a backstory. Even if I don't try, I usually end up with one.

I will say though, one thing I usually do with my campaigns when it involves a lot of starting gold, I will limit the amount of gold that can be spent on items. My usual rule is you can't spend more than 1/2 your starting gold on one item. it keeps you from using a +5 sword and masterwork everything else. Rounds out your spending.

Silver Crusade

Common firearms= musket? Ar rifle?

Also. Point buy?

Edit: advanced creature template us usable?

Point buy is 25
The template is largely just for flavor so probably no advanced creature. Im just going to wave the whole template idea though, it gets complicated.

Commonplace Guns: While still expensive and tricky to wield, early firearms are readily available. Instead of requiring the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat, all firearms are martial weapons. Early firearms and their ammunition cost 25% of the amounts listed in this book, but advanced firearms and their ammunition are still rare and cost the full price to purchase or craft.

Wait, so no templates after all? Drat. XD Ah, well. Back to character creation!

I'm into this idea, but I'd like to hear more about the world itself? It'll help a lot for coming up with the backstory.

Silver Crusade

I will go gunslinger. Woohoo

The campaign will be set in golarion. you will be traveling all over so backstory can pretty much be from anywhere.

Silver Crusade

Gnome gunslinger/inventor. I love it!

Hmm.. perhaps an elf or halfnl elf instead... decisions decisions.

I meant like, you said it would be military-based, so is it a lot of combat? Is there political intrigue and subterfuge? Exploration? What's the basis of the military itself? Is it based on a particular region or religion or against a common enemy? I suppose we've probably served a while, so some of us might know each other? Were we recruited or did we volunteer?

You are part of a top secret group of highly trained operatives. most of your missions involve taking down very specific people or groups of people. expect to be trekking a lot but also a good bit of time in cities. how you originally joined the military is up to you. you backstory should describe how you got into the military and why you were selected to be a part of this team.
yes you all know each other.

Billybrainpan wrote:

Good call. Ok, this is a really minor question - for which I apologize. Are we using traits?

Also, any limits on the magic gear purchasing?

Two traits, you can take a drawback for an additional one.

You may not spend more than 50% of your wealth on any one item magical or otherwise. Also once i have selected players (probably 4-6) I will give each player a semi-powerful custom item designed for their character.

How should HP rolls be handled?

True random?
Minimum Half?
All average?

etc.

Are we a unique organization or more like an elite branch of the Aspis Consortium or something similar? I'm fine with either, just curious.

Everything looks great thus far, I'm still excitedly considering character ideas.

Sadly the the concept that had initially sprung to mind was a spell sundering barbarian based on Glorion from JourneyQuest but I think this campaign is a little too serious for Glory's brand of adventuring...

There is no such thing as too much firepower for a military team, so here's a character to help out with that. XD

Haven't heard about HP yet, so I'll modify that if necessary.

Alari is one of the more... colorful operatives of the group. Like many of her kind, she has a serious fetish for fire, but she tempers it with a sharp mind and a whole lot of training. The main reason she's on the team is the little fact that, well, there are few operations where the ability to set everything ablaze won't be useful at some point in time. If nothing else, a sudden barrage of fire is enough to get most pursuers to stop long enough for everyone else to get away.

Somewhat surprisingly, Alari is very careful about how she spends her money. She's a bit of a hoarder, and prefers rare (and expensive) things over their common variants. However, she does have a practical streak as well, and occasionally makes purchases to help with the mission - this is the main reason she bought a Ring of Sustenance. Losing the need to forage for food is one heck of a benefit, and quite helpful on those extended trips.

Which she recognizes that a number of jobs could be seen as "dirty", she honestly believes that her actions are contributing to the greater good, and that's enough to satisfy her conscience. In fact, that's most of the reason she became a soldier at all - she has a natural talent for mayhem and destruction, and putting it to use helping others is something she's okay with.

When she's not busy igniting everything in sight, Alari can often be found performing as a singer and dancer at local establishments, which is mainly a way of expressing her creative side (especially after a long, boring trip). She strongly discourages people who get too rowdy, though, in the way that she does best... incidentally, the work for getting in and out of places like that discreetly has helped to make her surprisingly capable at disguising herself, though she's not too good at stealth. That tends to happen when your hair is literally on fire.

Hey, how are you?

Do you use maps for your campaigns?

Also, have you GMed before?

HP is max at first level half+1 for everything else (d8=5, d10=6, etc.)

@Walter - I'm well, thanks for asking.
I don't use maps.
I have GMed before but as I'm sure you can tell I'm still fairly new.

Sczarni

I'm thinking of just starting a new character.

We already have a sorc, so I'm thinking a divine caster, probably a Cleric. I had one once and he was pretty good. Only problem is I replaced his info with that of a Barbarian. I'll rebuild and get him submitted ASAP.

Interested as well, but unless I am mistaken, are not core and common races the same? Did you mean featured(Aasimar, Drow, Goblin, etc), or just straight up what's in the CRB??

Also, where are we headquartered, and will that also be where we start out?

Yes featured races. I get confused because there is core, featured and uncommon.

You will begin at your headquarters which is hidden beneath the Kodar Mountains

--------------------
Felix was born and raised in Minkai under the strict tutelage of his father, a samurai of great renown. Felix enjoyed the training, but the oppressiveness of his father's Order grated against his own free spirit. The constant demand that one turn from their own desires in order to serve the lord got him in trouble more times than he cared to admit. While his skill with the katana improved rapidly during the day, many nights were spent doing penitence for some slight or other under his father's watchful eye.

One day it simply became too much and Felix set out on his own to create his own path and form his own edicts, being called a Ronin and disowned by his father. He continued to be loyal to a fault but his experiences with his father and other authority figures caused him to treat most with disrespect. However he has made it his goal in life to be the most honourable man he can be and to never flee in the face of terror and to this day he has maintained those stances.

He spent many of the early days of his freedom wondering the land, searching for a purpose. Eventually, he found on in the military's elite squad, having caught the attention of the man in charge while fighting against mob "protection money" collectors in defense of an old woman running an inn he was currently staying at.

Third times a charm for berry.

Will alter character and get her ready soon. Both GM's couldn't handle her strong will and huge....tracts of land.

When's the recruitment time up?

Silver Crusade

actually, screw the gunslinger, zen archer time.

Silver Crusade

can we sort of collaborate on our "special" item? or is that a , here, I think this fits you thing from you :3

Dotting. Just made up an alchemist with a gunslinger dip for some explosive missile fun times for my home game; I would love to put together a special rendition of that of that for this game here. I'll see what I can do.

I love the highly trained special ops team concept. The character I have in mind will be explosives and demolitions (naturally), range combat, and secondary healer via the infusion discovery and potions, and probably a secondary skill-monkey, given the Int focus.

Edit: I don't see any mention yet of whose army we will be a part of; any idea yet? Might help us when brainstorming backgrounds, and exactly why we wanted to be soldiers.

Dotting.
Drow. 6lvl Cavern Sniper. 1 level arcane archer

Just a short intro. Will expand later if GM asks more questions about it

She joined the military for the thrill of hunting people. Using her skills to target and bring down worthy or unworthy individuals. Her skill with a bow made her a shoe in as a sniper so to speak. She turned her back on her heritage a long time ago. Even with the blood in her, she denies them and what they stand for. So she left. Not looking back. Joining the military to prove her worth and skill

Billybrainpan wrote:

My favourite sub-genre within the whole super-team realm would probably be the epic-feeling, against-all-odds type story. Since you are most likely considering this a shortish game and want a discernible end-point, I think what I would suggest would be a classic impossible mission. I actually love the idea of a practical "suicide-mission" to accomplish something so unattainable, no normal squad would even think of attempting it. However, the goals here are so tempting, that the team is willing to risk their lives to have even the chance of attaining it. Great movie examples might be:

The Dirty Dozen
Uncommon Valor (great Gene Hackman movie)
Tears of the Sun
Inglorious Basterds
The Great Escape

Whether the goal is to assassinate a key figure, raise hell behind enemy lines, rescue someone of critical importance from an impenetrable prison, or carry off a massive diversion to allow some key offensive somewhere else, the at any cost feel of these kinds of plots are wonderful for higher power games. It also allows the GM to play fast an loose with challenges, as mortality is expected to be high in such a vital, but challenging mission.

Question: When I made up my gunslinging alchemist originally, he was an Android. They are not common, and are typically from Numaria (and the crashed star-ship that resides there). I think they make for very interesting characters, particularly for a semi-science based or flavoured character, like an alchemist. Would you consider allowing it?

If not, for Aasimar and Tieflings, do you allow use of the Variant Abilities tables?

This is my submission. I had him as a character in another campaign, hence the "Order of Truth" in his name. However, that does not have to apply in this campaign.

I went with a Paladin instead of a Cleric since I like more upfront combat.

I still have to give him all of his items, work out a few kinks here and there, and get his backstory written. It will involve being betrayed as a child by his mentor/loved one/someone close and having him turn to faith for guidance, eventually rising as a Holy Vindicator.

If you need me to work anything out, give me a heads up.

@Rigor - I will allow and android but know that it is less likely to be excepted. Tieflings and Aasimar may both use variant abilities. For the sake of fairness Aasimar must take an angelic heritage feat to access theirs.

@Berry - Im not sure of an exact date probably next week.

@Seth - I would flesh out that backstory a bit, but the base sounds good.

You are all part of a very select group of soldiers (similar to the White Lotus in Avatar the Last Airbender) working for a small rebellion against a quickly spreading wave of destruction caused by a massive army (who's motives are still unclear). There is no clear destination between which races or ethnicities are on which side there a people from everywhere on both sides of the conflict.

EDIT: @Sevence - Although totally except able a paladin's code of horn might make it hard to fit into a group who has to follow orders regardless of there personal thoughts. Feel free to give it a shot though, ill just want a good reason as to why his faith has brought him here.

Yeah that's why I made my samurai submission a Ronin. I get to chose my own code/edicts xD

Sczarni

As long as he feels he is doing good, there is no need to tell him otherwise. A low Sense Motive makes him believe anything you say.

If you need me to come up with a different design, I can.

EDIT: Seth, Drow are inherently Evil, so how are you getting around that?

hmm...Dotting with Intrest, I have a Dhampire Shadow dancer that I have used once that I could refluff to match the setting. I just need to relevel her.

@SinBlade: By making her CN, Assassin. Views are different from her people, how she does things etc. Hence an self proclaimed exile

Why she left:
She enjoys the hunt, but due to how her people did things, she never could get as much fun out of the hunt than she would like. so often she would let someone escape just so she could track them down. If the qaurry was exceptionally fun to try and catch, she would let them go. When she was found out, there was an entire thing around it, but due to the fact that she was from a Noble Family and she was female, she was given time to repent etc, instead she fled

@Sinblade - Paladin i fine you just have to write it well.

@Seth - should be fine. As long as she isn't like a psychopath.
