Perhaps even warning their brethren that the Rovagugites lair nearby." When the group heads out again, Andre keeps a watchful eye on their surroundings.

Before leaving, Sazu takes a quick charcoal imprint of the sign for later referencing on one of his extra pieces of parchment.

"It is odd...that the warning would specifically be in Celestial. I mean, it leads me to believe either the message is for those who commonly read celestial or rather the one who know's celestial is warning others."

He lets his words hang in the air as they continue on, wondering if his companions have any input on the observation.

Sorry I was out of town for the weekend at a Medieval Reenactment festival.

I look at the sign and then shocked at everyone else, "How can you not read that? It says 'Danger. Go no further.' Have none of you studied other tongues? If you really want to proceed, then caution is the best bet, but why not go around where it is safer?"

Seeing that everyone is intent on going forwards I shake my head, touch the sign with my hand and lower my head slightly and speak quietly in the same tongue the sign is written in, "Sorry."

With that I walk forwards, both hands on my blade and ready to react to the aforementioned danger.

Sazu strikes up an oratory that acts as bardic performance to Inspire Courage.

I place the tip of my blade on the floor and stand it upright, so the handle is by my chest and speak in the same language as the sign.

Celestial:
"I mean no insult or to trespass, if you could tell us of another way to reach the camp of the Rovagugs, then I shall gladly take it. I do not wish to break a peace that can be kept intact."

I think the only word that anyone would understand is the word Rovagugs. I make no offensive actions this turn. Sorry for not coming up with some actual words for Celestial yet, I normally can but just finished a long day at work and am knackered.


Round 1

The creature moves 60 ft forward, seemingly uninfluenced by the Diplomacy checks. It doesn't seem to even understand the words that Rona is saying.

Once the creature finishes its movement, you see what looks like a grotesquely obese orc with a distended stomach. It is holding a longsword and looks like it plans to continue its approach.


Oh, and because I'm dumb and didn't type this - Knowledge (Planes) is now appropriate at this distance. The creature is no longer attempting to disguise its nature.

Ihon, you know the creature is a demon called a Vermlek and typically has a habit of inhabiting corpses to use as a form of armor and disguise. It is resistant to spells, elements, and has damage reduction against weapons that aren't cold iron or good. It does take damage from positive energy, however. It can do negative energy damage a limited number of times to those around it, but otherwise has limited damage ability despite its toughness.

Vermlek, demon. Resistant to attacks, magical or otherwise. Susceptible to holy power, but harms others with its unholy presence, he says in a monotone voice, as if reciting from a book.

Ihon then suddenly shouts a harsh magical word and points at the creature.

The creature, miraculously, doesn't seem to tumble due to the Grease.

Sazu will cast Grease in front of the creature to hopefully trip it up or at least delay it's advance.

"A demon, eh? And susceptible to the light of Erastil?" Andre growls dangerously. "Well, if that's the case..." He holds his holy symbol high.

"BEGONE, SCUM INFESTING THIS CORPSE! I ABJURE THEE TO THE ABYSS FROM WHENCE YOU CAME! HENCE AND TROUBLE NOT THESE HUNTING GROUNDS!"

Light floods out of the holy symbol, bathing the area in eerie shadows.

Channel positive energy: 1d6 ⇒ 3 damage. DC 12 Will save halves the damage, assuming it acts like an undead creature.

Note that if it's not within 30', Andre will ready the action to do that once it has approached that far.


It is currently 40 ft away, so I'll hold a readied action for you Andre. And Sazu, Ihon has cast Grease under it, so I'm assuming your Grease is in front of that Grease.

Round 2

Acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 11

The demon steps carefully out of the Grease Ihon cast and seeing the other pool in front of it, curves around the side to continue its advance.

Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

The creature winces, but takes little damage as it is hit by Andre's burst of energy. It stops 25 feet from your group and channels energy of its own.

Sazu, Andre, and Ihon, you are hit with Mass Inflict Light Wounds and can take a DC 16 Will Save for half damage.

Inflict Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Seeing that the creature is not wanting to settle this peacefully I walk to the creature, placing it between Phaedra and myself. I crouch slightly so that I am in a more defensive stance and bring my blade up with both hands.

The creature seems damaged by Rona's attack, but snarles and seems perfectly content continuing combat.

The bolt from the crossbow strike the demon, but it buries itself in the rotten flesh of the creature and seems to do no damage.

Didn't realize we were waiting on Round 3, sorry!

Andre grits his teeth as the pain washes over him, but raises his holy symbol and, murmuring, begins to channel energy once more. This time, wounds on his body and his allies' begin to close. Having done so, he drops his bow and grimly strides toward the creature, drawing his quarterstaff.

Might as well make use of this channel smite when I can...channeling to heal and then moving into position, flanking it if possible!

"Argh! Damn you, fiend!" Andre spits as the creature's sword opens a terrifying gash in his side. He grits his teeth. I'll not leave my companions now... Trying desperately to avoid the creature seeing how little he's paying attention to it, he lays his hand on his side...

Crap on a cracker.

But its hate-filled eyes see his weakness, and the priest cries out desperately to his god. "Heal me, Erastil! Hear your servant's cry!"

Due to the failed roll, I provoke an AoO when I burn burning disarm to cast cure light wounds. Another concentration check below in case he hits me--if he does, though, I'm probably unconscious. Currently at 3 hit points. :(

"Is this thing working?" Sazu cries in frustration as he lets loose another oversized crossbow bolt.

His gut gets pushed in a bit from the force of the shot, but Sazu maintains his inspire courage.

Making sure to keep someone on the other side of the creature the whole time I continue my barrage of strikes whilst keeping my defensive posture.

Andre, failing to cast defensively doesn't provoke an AoO, it just loses the spell with no effect. So you don't provoke, but you also don't get any healing.

Round 4

Rona strikes the creature twice and continues to wear it down slowly. Sazu is able to hit it with a bolt, but it again seems to do no damage at all. Phaedra's strike minimally harms the thing, but it continues to fight back.

The demon swings a longsword at Rona and attempts to bite Andre.
