When you say above Average I assume you mean Survival?

I do, yes. I'd also accept Kn. Dungeoneering on second thought, since it lets you accurately read the exact depth you are below ground; There must be some kind of navigation component to the skill. Feel free to roll, but you will have already wandered into some trouble just blindly going around for a few minutes.

You take random turns for nearly five minutes before you hear a skittering noise coming from down the corridor you were about to proceed into, as if untold numbers of tiny legs brush the floor...

Well too bad because no one has that and yes you can blame the changes to Vigilante for that.

So do you advance or retreat? The sounds are getting closer. Jasper will be unable to unerringly guide you to the most traveled routes once this is over, but who knows? Could be treasure down there.

We are heroes not zeroes

Melina refreshes the light spell on her glaive to make sure it doesn't go out during a fight. Then she advances with the others, ready for creepy-crawlie enemies.

You advance, into a PLETHORA of creepy crawly enemies.

At first, you think your lights and darkvision have failed you. The room you go into is an impenetrable pitch black.

A moment later the truth becomes apparent: There's nothing wrong with your eyes. Every square centimeter of this room is covered in spiders, in uncountable numbers.

And they're headed your way.

Inits, high is good: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Due to your surprise, the spiders get the drop on you, surging forward like a horrifying black tidal wave. Those of you not blinded by terror note there is some sort of stone box in the center of the room, now mostly uncovered. The keen eyed also note a scarlet band flashing on the underbelly of these spiders, visible on some now that they're moving.

You are in a 10 x 10 x 10 hallway 40 feet long. he spiders cover almost the entirety of it, crawling over ALL of you. Mechanically, this is four spider swarms conglomerated into one huge swarm. Kn. Nature applies for what KIND of spider.

The spiders cover all of you, biting every exposed inch of skin they can get to. The bites are excruciatingly painful, each one feeling like someone has jammed a hot poker into you and twisted it around.

Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 6) = 17

EVERYONE takes 17 damage, and must make me two Fort saves. One at DC 11 vs Distraction (Nauseated) and one at DC 16 vs poison. Additionally, everyone takes a -1 penalty to attack, damage, ability, and skill checks from the searing pain until someone can perform a Heal check to remove the condition (DC 13).

Is anyone carrying a torch, BTW? I think Blackjack is?

Everyone is up!

Rynjin wtf dude. What's next, a box full of infinite clowns?

Don't tempt me to bring back the clown that throws Deck of Many Things cards at people.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

So not nauseated, but poisoned. Also, does blessed fortitude negate that -1 penalty? This sounds like an attack that has a reduced effect (only the -1; reduced from -1 and nauseated) on successful fort save.

Male Half- Elf Vigilante(Warlock) 4/ Fighter (Trench Fighter)4 | HP 35/52| AC 24 T 17 FF 18| Fort +7 Ref +11 Will +3 | CMD 22 | Init +8 | Perception +4

Ahh Swarms the funnest creatures ever for martial characters. I assume they are diminutive?

Fine.

@Melina: No, it's three different effects. The -1 is completely independent from the poison and Distraction.

There were too many of them and his weaponry nor spells could affect such a swarm. " I am useless here like so many parts of my life. I leave this in your hands. "

He says as he leaves the area completely.

Blackjack notices his torch is flaring slightly the closer it gets to the room, as if there's some kind of fuel to make it burn hotter ahead.

Jasper gains the appearance of wearing a swarmsuit. Unfortunately, the spiders are too dumb to fall for this ruse.

Siege grunted as the little monsters crawled into her armour, although they were more of an annoyance than a danger thanks to the fact most of Siege's body was machine nowadays. Pulling a vial of Alchemist's Fire from a belt pouch, she hurled it at the largest concentration of Spider that didn't have a hysterically screaming hero in it...or any other kind, for that matter.

Going to go ahead and let Acid Splash work here, just because swarms are more BS than they need to be in this game, and it is a SPLASH after all. Ray of Frost seems a bit too focused though.

So it looks like half of you retreat, half of you stay in? And three people haven't posted yet. I'll give them a few more hours.

1d20 ⇒ 9

Due to Ice Strike's fire burning white hot, a full 1/4 of the spiders are destroyed, clearing a path for anyone who wants to flee. The rest of the attempts to hurt them are...less effective.

The spiders surge forward again, engulfing everyone but Psykoblade.
