About Arthur Balond, "Blackjack"

Character sheet

Appearance:
Arthur Balond is a slender man with brown eyes and neatly combed black hair, and expensive, fashionable clothing.

As Blackjack, he wears flowing black clothing and a skull mask. He appears as a strange, shadowy figure as he ducks and weaves across the battlefield.

Personality:
Arthur is friendly and outgoing, but somewhat greedy. He takes great pride in his business, and genuinely cares for his customers just as much as he cares for their money.

Blackjack, on the other hand, is quiet and aloof. He cares only about vanquishing evildoers, by any means necessary.

Backstory:
Arthur lived a carefree life for most of his youth. His father was a wealthy entrepreneur, and Arthur was content to spend that fortune on drink and games. When his father demanded that he start up a business to earn some income of his own, Arthur bought a modest bar in Sommweir, and converted it into a gambling house. Led by his charm and knowledge of gambling, the Lucky Rabbit turned out to be quite successful business.

One evening, as he was walking down the street, Arthur saw an elderly woman being robbed. Without thinking, he immediately apprehended the robber and recovered the woman's belongings. She revealed herself to be a fortune teller and, as thanks, she offered to give Arthur a free Harrow reading, which he accepted with some bemusement. When she began drawing the cards, Arthur felt a strange energy building in the room. With an almost mischievous look in her eyes, she told Arthur to put his hands on the cards which had been laid out. When he did so, he instantly blacked out. He came to sprawled outside the Lucky Rabbit, with no sign of the woman. But Arthur noticed that a Harrow deck had been neatly bound and placed in his pocket. More importantly, he felt like a new man - faster, smarter, and even a little more charming. He decided that he could do more with his life than run a simple business, and he began training himself in swordfighting and acrobatics. By day he would continue to run the Lucky Rabbit, but by night he would take upon a fearsome guise, and rid the streets of crime as Blackjack!
