I actually use a google form typically with my games. I like the auto-generated spreadsheets it makes when I fill out the chronicles.
I just copied your slide deck over and reformatted the shared ones a little to reduce the work you'd have to do. :-P
For those unaware... Example of my Questionnaire.
I stole the idea from someone...GM Granta I think.

GM Hmm |

That is a nice form!

GM RePete |

When Granta did it, I was intrigued. Then when the forums started being down more than they were up, I started using it.
The spreadsheet it creates for me keeps all the players information nice and organized. However the best part I've found is I can access it even when Paizo is down to make the chronicles.
I like organization...I like spreadsheets...I like computers and math. It works for me. :-P

Yes, I changed it so it would sort near the other Flaxseed, rather than the pseudo campaigns being all over the campaigns page. It's also more clear now what it is.
I wouldn't mind seeing both of these changes so that they always sort to the beginning of our Campaigns tab. (Not sure how the board sorts these, but often an underscore "_" or other special character at the beginning of the name will do it.)

GM DevilDoc |

Just got my GM schedule for Gencon.. Looks like I will be on the overnight crew! Any night owls want to come say hi, I am sure that we can work something out!

GM Ladile |

Alas, no PaizoCon or GenCon or Origins for me...but I should be at DieCon next month if we've got anyone here from the IL/MO area :)

GM DevilDoc |

That's only 2 hrs or so from me.. but alas I had no idea it existed so no way to get that into the budget :-(

Where in IL/MO? I'm originally from south central MO, and it would be cool to combine a family visit with some dice rolling.

GM Ladile |

Collinsville! I'm not GMing or anything and I'm not even local (I'll be driving in from TN) but I'll be there, assuming my time-off request gets approved :)

GM RePete |

Oooo Never heard of it, but I'm from the Central IL area. Sadly, I don't believe I'll be able to make it.
Rumor is I'll be at a company training those days...Here's hoping the rumors are true.

GM DevilDoc |

So I just finished my first game since they changed up the site and rearranged the reporting page and I am having fits with it. Could someone help me please?
I have created my event, listed the scenario, and filled in just about every check box I can find, but it still does not give me an option to report the game.. the edit button takes me back in to edit the event, and the "download scenario sheets" is not what I want. How do I make it let me report the scenario completion???

GM RePete |

Under the 'Edit the Event' section, click on the 'edit' button next to "description". The last check box above the "Event Description" section states "Reporting is complete for this event."
If you are closing the event, you check that and save when you are done reporting.
If you are keeping the event open to add more games in throughout the year, you'll wait until you are done with the event.

I'm in MO the weekend before visiting family. Man I would have loved to stay longer, and hit this for a day.

Hi folks, I'm ready to GM my first PbP game. Just looking for some guidance for the forum setup.
I'm running Confirmation and have all the material I need: PDF in google drive, pre-formatted dialogue in a doc, and some other tools I've picked up from here and other places.
Where do I start the game thread to recruit?
How soon do I need to report or register that I'm running a game with organized play?
Other than that, I think i'm good to go. Thanks in advance.

Hi! In order to create your campaign you'll need to:
(1) Go to Online Campaigns
(2) Go to the Play-by-Post subsection
(3) Click 'Add New Thread' near the top of the page
This will prompt you to create your 'Gameplay' thread - give it a title, make sure you post it under whatever alias you want to use (if you want to use a specific GM alias) and post whatever sort of introduction you want.
***There is (was? not sure if it's been squished yet) a bug where you and everyone else will be unable to add further posts to the Gameplay thread if you try the dot-and-delete trick for the very first post! So be sure your very first post contains something!***
Once you create your thread it'll ask you if you want to create a campaign for the thread - do so and it'll prompt you to create a Discussion thread. Give it a title and post something like 'All OOC discussion goes here!' or whatever suits you, just like you did with the Gameplay thread. If I'm remembering my steps right this will automatically create a campaign. You'll see all the usual tabs at the top - Campaign Info, Gameplay, Discussion, Recruitment, Players, and Characters. To create a recruitment thread for the campaign just go to the 'Recruitment' tab and click on the prompt to create a thread. And that's it!
As far as reporting/registering goes, you don't have to worry about any of that until the game is finished and you're ready to report it on the website.

I figure if I'm going to be up late and I see a question (or if I just happen to be free), I should do my best to answer it if I can. As OG3 says, it takes a village :)

GM RePete |

As CariMac said, best of luck and enjoy it!
The drug gets most of us at some point or another. I started GMing regularly a little over a year ago and went from 6 tables to 37 of credit in just under 18 months. I think 17 of them were PbP...
At this point I GM more often than I play.
If you come across any questions during your scenario, don't hesitate to ask here.

I usually run them unless there's no narrative reason to run them. For example, if it's a purely combat scene that doesn't add to the player's understanding of the story or their enjoyment, for example if they've been diplomatic up to this point and resolved everything through talking and roleplay and this would just be the 'obligatory combat scene', then I ignore it.

GM Ladile |

It depends; sometimes I'll ask the group if they want the optional encounter and other times I've skipped it if it didn't seem like running it would add anything to the story.

(sorry I didn't get back to you sooner when you PM'ed me about this, Zin Z'arin. I have a lot going on behind the scenes right now.)
I've never done this, either, but if I was GM asked to document this, here is how I would go about it.
1. Check that the player owns Ultimate Campaign. I might just ask if they do, or I might ask to see proof.
2. Calculate the costs based on what's in the Guide.
3. Include an entry on the chronicle sheet along the lines of:
retrained archetype for 10 PP, one skill point for 5 PP
and then I would initial that line.

![]() |

So in a PbP context, the easiest way would be to annotate my pdfs, send them to my next GM, and have that GM initial the pdf and return it to me?
This is honestly the largest hurdle for me. In a local game store I feel like this is a lot easier, but in our environment, it's now a technological hurdle.

GM RePete |

My recommendation is as GM Ewok said.
I did do this with my -1 character a while back. I was retraining a class level.
I went ahead and notated my changes on the characters sheet and my personal notes. Then when I arrived at his next session (this was in a F2F setting) I advised the GM prior to starting what I was doing.
He notated it on my new Chronicle sheet (as if it had been an in session purchase) and initialed it.

I hope to see all of you offer cool stuff! Remember that we’re looking for GMs to cover both PFS and SFS specials this year. If you’ve ever been interested in doing a PBP special, now is the time!

Thought I'd share a little trick I'm using to stay up to date on my game.
Using ifttt.com I have created a trigger for any time a post is made to the Gameplay thread of my game (using the xml feeds in the top right corner) it sends me an email. Here is an example using this discussion thread.
You can configure the app to alert you as well, which comes in the form of a push notification on my phone. I've also set my smartwatch to notify me when one of these notifications comes in.
The notifications come in pretty close to real time so I'm super up to date on my games.
Enjoy!

GM Ladile |

Woohoo, congrats! Now that you've gotten your first taste, you'll never look back :)
@GM Weenerton (lawl at that name btw) - Thanks for the link and the suggestion! While I do make use of the Paizo Campaign Tools add-on for Chrome, getting triggers - especially phone notices - for games every time there's a new post might just drive me batty because I generally can't update much/at all during work hours.
(And have you seen my Campaigns page lately? Whoo...)
Still, it's a tempting thought!

I had it going for all campaigns i was playing in for Gameplay and Discussion. It was too much. I'm only GMing one game at a time, so I only have the alerts active for that.

It's been a long time coming, and the babiest of baby steps (one quest from Silverhex Chronicles), but I want to announce that I just completed my first GMing session on these boards.
Thanks for the guidance, whether direct or just by being a good example in games you've run for me. I posted my reflections in the Discussion thread over there.
