Redbeard the Overseer |
It's not that big a deal.
Marcus destroys one of the soldier ants on Mickey, and before Mickey can thank him, Spencer plugs the other with his rifle, fully cutting the number of ants on Mickey in half.
Rufus and Mickey still up before ants.
Mickey Rios |
Spirit: 1d8 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Wild: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Wow. Critical fail on a spirit check. That just can't be good.
Mickey was reeling from the last attack and it was all he could do to stay standing.
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
Rufus snarls as he sights again, this time on the Worker ant that seems to be menacing Fitz.
Guns!: 1d10 ⇒ 9 and Wild!: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Damage: 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6
Edit: Raise?: 1d10 ⇒ 8
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
Someone please correct me, but I think if you get a raise you add 1d6 to damage, not your gun dice, am I right?
Redbeard the Overseer |
the gun shot was indeed a raise, but a raise always gives 1d6 damage extra, no matter what the qualifying die is, nor the original damage, so...
1d6 ⇒ 4
For a total of 10 damage vs Toughness 7, which shakes it (so close to a kill)
Redbeard the Overseer |
I hope you are taking into account range of your gun, Rufus. You haven't been moving north at all this entire time, and I would hate to have to audit that. Remember, moving is a free action and can be done any time you aren't spending a round to aim, causing no multi-action penalties as long as you don't run.
UnshakeWorker: 1d6 ⇒ 4
The worker on Fitz snaps out of it's briefly stunned state and tries to bite him.
Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 3
But simply cannot connect...again.
Meanwhile, down to two workers on Mickey, they again try to get him, less overwhelming without their soldier bretheren.
worker1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
worker2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
and without their swarming numbers, they just cannot connect.
Fitz, and then new initiative:
Fitz again (this time with Joker)
Ants again - Queen
Everyone else - Less than a Queen
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
No, I haven't! Thanks for the reminder. I'll have Rufus be moving steadily north while firing, then.
Redbeard the Overseer |
No, I haven't! Thanks for the reminder. I'll have Rufus be moving steadily north while firing, then.
Feel free to edit the map as if he has been. Anyone can edit on computer or even on phone with the free Google docs app.
Fitz Fitzpatrick |
Round 1:
Fitz (hopefully) finishes off the worker in front of him.
STOMP: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 5
STOMP: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Wild: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4
Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Tow hits, no Raises looks like.
Damage 1: 1d8 + 1d4 ⇒ (3) + (2) = 5
Damage 2: 1d8 + 1d4 ⇒ (4) + (4) = 8
Enough to Shake the Worker at least, I think.
Round 2:
Fitz, at least stunning the ant, moves away and tries to help Mickey.
Double Tap 1: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Double Tap 2: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Attack 1 Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Attack 2 Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 5
So, 10 and 11, pair of Raises. One shot to each (in the hopes I can at least Shake both).
Damage Attack 1: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1, 5) + 3 = 11
Damage Attack 2: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) + 3 = 21
JIGGITY JACKPOT
WHY CAN'T I HOLD ALL THESE ACES?: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) = 9
IT KEEPS HAPPENING: 1d6 ⇒ 3
So, 11 to 1 and 43 to the other. WA two is d e a d.
Edit: Forgot Raise dice.
Raise 1: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Raise 2: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Final Total: 13 to one, 48 to the other. AP 2.
"Oh, 'It fires a little to the left' indeed." Fitz scoffs.
Redbeard the Overseer |
Fitz toasts the last two ants on Mickey, and eventually one of you finishes the last ant(because it's a single worker and not really a threat, and this combat has been going on for a bloody long time).
The factory seems eerily quiet, and you think that was all of them, but you think one of the workers said it was less than two days after the factory was cleared and the hole filled that a new hole busted open and they were overrun again.
Spencer, Mickey and Fitz now no longer have the heat of battle to prevent them from wondering where these two newcomers come from.
Fitz Fitzpatrick |
"Well, not that I'm not grateful for your help, but would you two mind introducing yourselves? We were not expecting aid."
"Also, I warn you we should move quickly. I doubt this was all of them, given the workers' statements. They were renewed in less than two days. I assume their queen, wherever she is, simply births more. We plan to kill her."
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"I don't know who this guy is."
Says Papa while gesturing to Rufus
"Name's Marcus, but call me Papa, everybody does. And I'm from the Brotherhood. Jameson sent me cus the Elders are more than worried about the "delivery". What the heck is that delivery? They didn't even tell me, man! Just "Papa, this. Papa, that. Papa make sure those darn outsiders come back alive. Bla bla bla..."
After the big man sprouts and vents, he starts reloading his las pistol.
"Now, what's the plan and when do we kill them bugs?"
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
"That guy talks too much." spits out the ghoul with a long, scratchy voiced drawl. "Name's Rufus Atherton, acclaimed cowboy and trick shooter on the Southern Wild Circuit, not that any of you pinkskins would know about that. Heard there was a bounty on ants. Didn't hear nothin' 'bout savin' no pinkskins."
Mickey Rios |
"Well, any help is appreciated. We - we lost one of ours about an hour ago," Mickey said with a grimace as he sat against a wall. He sighed and took a deep breath, wincing with each movement.
"For this second assault we tried a two-pronged hit-and-run. But they swarmed us faster than we thought. Thanks, for the help, by the way."
"Don't suppose any of you know how to use a first aid kit. I'm a little banged up here."
Mickey gingerly removed a kit from his pink "My Little Pony" backpack.
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
Rufus stares at the backpack for a moment. "I always liked Applejack m'self." He takes the first aid kit and begins to open it, murmuring to himself. "Hipbones connected to the...other bone."
Healing: 1d4 ⇒ 1 or Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"I'm good at fixing stuff, no people, I'm sorry. And sorry too about your friend... damn ants.
Papa gets out a cigarrette pack and offers everybody one.
"Let's burn this one for him. May he find plenty of caps and none of dust in the afterlife."
Redbeard the Overseer |
While the healing kit provides a bonus, remember you also take a penalty equal to the person being healed's wounds. This may be a good idea to throw some aid anothers in. Go the new players, my house rule for aid another is if you have at least a d4, it automatically succeeds and gives +1 with no roll required, but you can't attempt if you have no skill.
Mickey, Spencer, and Fitz all remember they were free to loot the building, and that the hole to the hive itself was in the Fine Details Room...you also have the keys to the Foreman's office.
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
Okey dokey! What's the mark I need to pass? And what are the penalties if I don't get my dope often? How often do I have to smoke if addicted? I bought a carton plus a reserve cigarette & lighter so I'll have enough, I think.
Tobaaaaacco: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Casual smoker, it seems
Redbeard the Overseer |
It's a 4 unless otherwise stated for almost any roll in Savage Worlds; and HAD you failed, you'd need at least 1 a day or you'd get a fatigue...can be cured by a doctor as long as it's not an addiction you chose on purpose at character creation.
Spencer Collin |
Spencer nods to the newcomers. "I'm Spencer Collin, this is Fitz and Mickey. We're pretty fresh from our Vault, as you might guess by my outfit. Thanks for the help."
The man sits back for a moment, reloading his guns, as their new ghoul acquaintance moves forward to take up the medical kit. Hearing his little ditty and seeing him start to grab the wrong tools, though, he leans forward. "I think it's the thigh bone," he says. "May I?"
Healing (Mickey): 1d6 - 2 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) - 2 - 2 + 1 = 2
Wild: 1d6 - 2 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) - 2 - 2 + 1 = 3 Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Total 7. An Ace was what I was hoping for.
In fairly short order, Spencer has the wounds mostly cleaned and held shut with gauze. "Little buggers got us pretty good, but I think you'll be mostly okay," he comments, snapping the kit shut and handing it back. "Let's take a look around. Stay sharp." With that, he moves in with Fitz, looking around and keeping a sharp ear for trouble.
Notice: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Wild: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Also 14.
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"Don't worry Spencer. I enlisted to help, there's no need to thank anything. Mind if I help you? This place is huge..."
Aiding Fitz. That's another +1
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
A raise... must be the Brotherhood training. What with scavenging stuff and claiming tech.
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
"Suit yerself, vaultdweller. Never got an invite to one of them vaults. Seems they found me 'unpleasant' and didn't approve of 'rampant venereal diseases'. Huh, I figured if the ladies didn't mind, why should the Vault? Their loss." Rufus declines the cigarette and instead pulls a spent shell out of his pocket and rolls it around his mouth like a cheroot.
"So, what brings you 'dwellers out of yet vault? Did it blow up? Did the overseer go nuts and try ta kill ya? I hear that happens a lot."
Redbeard the Overseer |
[b]" Seems they found me 'unpleasant' and didn't approve of 'rampant venereal diseases'.
I disruptingly laughed way too Loud at work at that. Like heads popping out of cubicles Loud. +1 Benny for that.
Spencer Collin |
"Go nuts and try to--?" Spencer shakes his head. "Nothing quite so... malicious. With overpopulation issues, we've had a lottery to send some folks out into the Wasteland to make up for population growth. It's unfortunate, but it's what the Overseers of old decided was best for the people." He grunts as he kicks a rock. "Not that I don't want to change it..."
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"That's outright evil! Man, you have to fight the power if the power try to screw you, you dig? Look, spacing people out there is bad. They could have tried and found a town outside. Or tried to trade. Or anything else. But that's easier. Tell me, when was the last time an Overseer got chosen? I bet never!"
He stops searching to look at Spencer.
"Spencer, I swear by my knight's honour that I'll help you all live out here. I promise. Nobody should be forced like that. GODAMMIT I HATE THOSE OLD BASTARDS!"
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
Rufus stares at Il Papa. "Man, you got issues. You ever tried not keeping that there rod up your arse and just shat it out?"
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"Ey, leatherface, I get you don't like humans as much as brains but you know what? I've neither shot you nor spat you. And as a 'Hood Knight I should have shot AND then spat . And I didn't. So next time you wanna complain 'bout me bein' a good person remember that's what makes me different from the ones trying to kill you on sight."
Papa goes back to searching to calm down, still a bit agitated.
Just so all you know: no bad blood here, I'm loving the RP!
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
Rufus stares at the grouchy old man, then laughs. "If yer one o' them Brotherhood nuts, where's yer shiny metal pants? Did they throw you out when the pole up yer rear interfered with the armor?"
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
Papa looks to Rufus slightly while still searching around the room "Man, I get that you don't like the 'Hood. I don't like all of the things we do neither. But thrashing against the one knight that treats you as a person isn't wise. What is it that make you so bitter? At least you are alive, lots of people can't say the same."
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
"Let out the breath and pass the stick, Il Papino. I ain't said nothin' that ain't dirt obvious. Treat me like a freak, treat me like an old man, whatever. Ain't no skin off my teeth. But yer a little too over-excited, iron-pants. Smoking that weed and getting all bent outta shape ain't good fer ya. So drop the act and try not ta take it all so serious. That sh!t'll kill ya." Rufus grins widely, showing a few gaps where teeth used to be. "So, yer all vaultdwellers and he's a bit worn about th' Brotherhood. Didja at least get a chance ta kill th'Queen o' this hive? Kill 'er and the rest'll fall aparts, right as rain."
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"Well, paint me green and sell me as a mutie... I've never heard of ghoul humour. Rufus, it will be hard but someday I may grow to like you hahahahaha!
The big man stands up and closes in to Rufus, extending his hand.
"We good? You are right about the queen too, that'd make errything easier. What do you think? Finishes him looking at the dwellers.
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
Having finished his part of the search, Marcus closes to Fitz and asks him to speak apart.
"Ey Iron Man, your name is Fitz, ain't it? Hear me, lad, I felt you angry about the rifle comment back there with the ants.
He lights another cigar.
Spirit: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"It meant nothing bad 'bout your skill. Was just a excuse to get my hands for a while in that gorgeous lady you have. It's a hobby of mine."
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"You can bet on it! Oh man, it's an AER10 Laser Rifle. They don't make em as good since the Big Mushrooms... Mind an advice from a laser freak?"
As he handles back the gun to Fitz.
"Keep it as well as you did and he will return the favour."
Fitz Fitzpatrick |
"I plan to. This Laser Rifle has served me remarkably well. Thank you for the advice." Fitz cracks a small smile.
"So, what is it like being in the Brotherhood? I found I quite liked your organization's ideals, but I was told that outsiders are not allowed to join."
"Given the incredible danger of your activities, doesn't that make keeping your population up difficult?"
Spencer Collin |
Spencer does his best to follow the quick conversation between the two new arrivals, but he gives up, ascribing them simple notes in his mind. Rufus the Ghoul, surly but good shooter and a decent guy, it seems. Marcus "Papa," Brotherhood Knight, friendly and helpful, doesn't like authority... at least when they aren't kind.
"I agree a town would be better, and I'm hoping to work something out like that. Maybe work a deal between a settlement and the Vault. Of course, that involves convincing two parties and finding the Vault again... But someday." He shoulders his guns and nods, still going through the office. "Anyway, yeah, let's finish looking around up here while it's safe, and then look for the queen. There's supposed to be a tunnel in the next room over."
Rufus Atherton, Cowpoke |
"Wait, they toss'd y'all out and you don't know where they are? Ain't that a pile of horsesh!t. You sure y'all want to help these folks? Hells, son! I bin tossed out of a heckuva lot o' places in my time, but they never toss'd me so hard I fergot where it was!"
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
"Being a Knight is an honour that I will never have enough time to pay for... but I wished we could involve us deeper in helping the people. We could make the difference!"
Marcus smiles when thinking bout it.
"But yeah, the deaths of battle brothers are hard to compensate, so we sometimes aren't enough to save everyone. I'll tell you what, I'll try to help you inside. Won't be easy, nor soon... but wouldn't be the first time an outsider make it into our ranks thanks to great deeds to the 'Hood."
Redbeard the Overseer |
Okay, as you talk and pick through upstairs you find among the wreckage of the building: (your notice found everything, so I'll just list it all out including what dead bodies have):
One suit of Combat Armor with Helmet in the security office along with a Hunting Shotgun and 25 shells (standard 12 gauge)
The main area factory floor:
One suit of Metal Armor Mark 2 with matching helmet.
8 frag grenades
2 large shields
10mm SMG with 70 bullets
Foreman's Office:
A ripper
A solar scorcher
Recon Armor and matching Helmet
Fine Details Room:
A FN Fallout with 200 of the appropriate standard bullets.
5d100 ⇒ (84, 76, 53, 99, 48) = 360 Caps
1d500 ⇒ 362 Microfusion cells
1d500 ⇒ 327 Small energy cells
1d500 ⇒ 345 electron charge
(The factory apparently made energy ammo, which was why the foreman wanted to sell to the Brotherhood)
Spencer Collin |
Spencer shakes his head and smiles at Rufus's comment. "Not a matter of so hard, as much as how they did it. You get taken in the night, bound and blindfolded, and we used an old truck to take folks out to random drop points outside the radiated zone. Not that that's any better." He sighs, reflecting on how often he knew folks who were chosen, and how often he'd been on guard to take them out. "I'm going to make a difference. It's just a matter of preparation."
That's a lot of loot! Gonna copy it over to Discussion for us to sort out who wants what without spending a ton of time in Gameplay with details like that.
Marcus "Big Papa" Edwards |
I didn't know a man could fall in love with loot. But he can.
