Morrow is wounded badly by the flying shards of the shattered skull, but is quickly healed of the worst of his injury by Verdan's magic. But as the duskblade closes in on the statue, it swings its heavy scythe as Morrow tries to slip through its mighty reach and the healing he'd received is undone in an instant as the blade opens a terrible wound in his side! In truth, the duskblade doubts he could survive another blow like that one, but he does his level best and strikes with his sword, chipping off a bit of the forearm (7 damage, immune to crits.) Fash avoids most of the damage and The gnome casts a spell that he hopes will blind it as he creates the illusion of thick ice forming over the statue's head and upper body, then slinks away like the whisper of a shadow - he doesn't think the statue even notices him, but who can really tell? Reonnyn fires an eldritch blast at the thing, which seems to have some effect, though not much. The statue swings at Morrow again, apparently having some idea at least where there is one foe within reach, but the duskblade easily ducks under the wild swing of the enormous and deadly scythe!

EVERYONE can post your actions for the rest of Round 1 and the start of Round 2. OK, interesting idea Fash and it is NOT immune to figments, though it is immune to most other illusion-type magic with the mind-affecting tag. So consider it effectively blind from the ice crystals around its skull, but NOT deaf, as the illusion itself can create sound (like the crackle of ice, etc) but cannot negate sound. Reonnyn, I didn't see anything about an Eldritch Blast (Called Shot). Can you give me a link?

No link for this GM West, Reonnyn was thinking old school here. I did pull the penalties for the called shot from THIS though. My thinking here is to sever the wrist/arm, effectively disarming the statue. Not sure if it is indeed possible but considering what that scythe does, definitely worth the effort!

He whispers to the others "Move after you attack it, it's blinded"
Using his message active message spell. Remember folks, as blinded it first has to guess which square you are in, and then it gets a miss chance, so try to move after you attack from a given square... Hopefully the noise effects of the illusion will make any Listen checks more difficult.

An instants concentration keeps up his illusion as Fash thinks to himself "I think it's blind and I've hasted everyone. What else can I do to help with a giant animated statue? Well, I guess it's old faithful... Thank you Kelviernan." He draws and aims his runestaff ...

Sobok moves down the steps and breaths a gout of fire (11 fire damage) at the massive statue as he stands next to Morrow while Verdan hustles quickly down the steps and touches the badly wounded Morrow, healing the duskblade of the worst of his wounds (CSW for 45 HP healing) and Neb sends three creackling bolts of electricity at the statue (52 electricity damage) that can't miss - given the size of the construct!

Morrow, feeling much stronger now thanks to the cleric's divine magic, summons his own magic and strikes ferociously at the statue, and though the last blow glances off harmlessly, the duskblade is certain that his blade dealt a decent amount of damage (70 -16 = 54 damage). Fash draws his runestaff, trying to invoke the magic within - but alas it fails to respond in the heat of the moment. Reonnyn sends a blast at the thing (15 damage), which takes off another chunk of its arm, but it continues to fight despite its blindness!

The statue again swings at Morrow, or at least where it thinks the duskblade is standing, and though the giant curved blade comes close to chopping him down like a stalk of wheat, he is able to avoid the blow!

EVERYONE can post your actions for the rest of Round 2 and the start of Round 3. Sobok, I had you move next to Morrow, as the duskblade would have been affected by the cone in your previous position. Reonnyn, it's an intriguing thought, but no called shots in this game - sorry about that. I might be convinced to let you use something similar if you succeed on a critical hit INSTEAD of taking the extra damage, though (against creatures that are not immune to crits.) But it wouldn't lop off the hand or anything - probably a penalty to attack/damage rolls or something similar.

Minor adjustment to the combat notes - Fash is not hasted (he had to pick between himself and Nebuzaradan being in the area of effect, and he picked Neb...

Fash slips forward past the giant statue, towards the fog-shrouded stairway... Great skill allows him to keep up his illusion, protecting his comrades. Meanwhile, he lets his ears do the thinking...

I believe using Stealth requires movement to accomplish, and I'm going to rule that a 5' step is not subject to that since it isn't really movement at all but rather a tactical shift in position that doesn't require an action. You can definitely move around a bit if you'd like, but if you do, you cannot take a full attack action. You can take a standard attack, then move at half your current movement (which is hasted) and roll a Stealth check to oppose the statue's Listen check.

EDIT:
Looking into this a bit further, it appears my ruling is correct, but that I was actually a bit off in setting the DC for the statue to perceive someone it can't see that just attacked it, which should apparently be 0 and not 5. But you can be somewhat comforted by the fact that the thing has an AWFUL Listen/Spot skill, so it's an 80% chance it'll pinpoint you after a 5' step, and then another 50% miss chance even if it DOES figure out where you are.

By the way, was looking at the post below for some input in how to deal with this situation. It's Pathfinder (and using invisibility instead of blinded), but pretty much the same set of rules in this instance, as far as I'm concerned. In all, it looks like making full attack actions while invisible (or when your target is blinded) is a risky thing to do. You will get the 50% miss chance, but chances are your opponent is going to have a good sense of where you are - even if you just shifted to one side or another with your free 5' step. Which makes sense to me, as you're engaged in a full on melee attack and not making quick hit-and-run strikes - trying to stay unseen between your attacks.

Sobok allows his rage to burst forth and the dragon shaman leaps forward into the fray, slashing with his falchion and connecting each time (67 -24 = 43 damage total), stone bits flying every which way as he tries to hack through its arm. Verdan readies himself to heal his allies, should anyone need it, as Neb sends an electric orb toward the thing - which smashes into its shoulder with a heavy impact (24 electric damage), rocking it back a bit. Morrow takes advantage of the statue's off-balance state and uses his magic to again bolster his fighting prowess and hacks into the elbow of the thing once, twice, three times! (100 -24 = 76 damage) This proves too much for the animated statue to endure, as Morrow's blade cleaves the arm off at the elbow with his third strike! The enormous scythe falls to the stone floor, still clutched in the curled stone hand of the statue as the rest of it slumps to the ground, apparently the magic that animated it having expired utterly.

A heavy quiet descends upon the area when the statue fails to rise again, as though the immense cavern is holding its breath. Fash finds that the rubble strewn about the cavern floor where the pyramid has been shattered is difficult to negotiate (difficult terrain on the 'rubble' squares of the map), and due mostly to the gnome's magical fog cloud, the interior of the structure is entirely concealed. The spiral staircase you glimpsed from your elevated position earlier cannot be seen at all.

Having moved a bit further into the cavern, you can see that east of the pyramid lies at least one ruined building, a second barely illuminated by Verdan's bright shield which seems to be swallowed by the immense darkness of the huge cavern - there may be others as well, but it is impossible to tell for sure. The one that is visible appears to have been almost entirely crushed when part of the enormous statue fell upon it.

Actions? Sobok, I think you should have had a third attack for Haste (as you only needed a 5' step to move up and make a full attack action), so I rolled it for you.

Verdan gives Morrow a nod and uses his wand of slow healing to treat the duskblade along with Sobok and himself (5 charges for 11 HP of healing), so that all of their injuries have now disappeared entirely. Morrow finds no magical auras in the immediate area as the the party moves toward the ruined buildings and Neb's weasel slips through the air toward the shattered pyramid and the fog cloud that conceals the spiral staircase. Neb considers sending Bart toward the pyramid, then realizes that the spell effects his familiar is enjoying will fade away once the weasel gets much farther away than arm's reach.

The party can see a couple other buildings as well, beyond the one that's been entirely crushed. The other two are partially ruined, with the smaller one further north and next to the pyramid in very bad shape, entire sections of its western and southern walls have mostly collapsed. A much longer building to the east is in better shape, but large sections of the ceilings have fallen long ago, perhaps collapsed by the ravages of time.

Further north, beyond the buildings and at the edge of the light shining forth from Verdan's shield, can be glimpsed a rather lush area of moss and fungus, but further details cannot be seen.

Actions? Neb, my reading of Share Spell is that Bart will lose the Greater Mage Armor, Overland Flight and False Life that your familiar currently has going - as its master does. He can go scouting for sure, but will no longer be flying nor protected by extra temp HP, and even when it comes back to you those spells will no longer affect it until you cast them again when your familiar is within 5' of you.

Fash moves down the avenue between the buildings, peering through the open door into the long building - the one hanging open. The entire backside of the building is ruined, revealing the stone wall of the cavern just beyond. There are ruined pieces of furniture (a table and a desk, along with a few barrels), all covered with mold, debris and the general ruin brought about through time. And, perhaps, something more... As the gnome scout considers that thought, there is a sudden rumbling of earth that sounds quite foreboding, especially considering that you are all currently deep underground in a massive cavern. Thoughts of a cave-in spring to your minds, and just as you start to wonder where you might take cover the source of the rumbling becomes quite clear.

A massive spray of dirt and stone erupts from the easternmost building, right in front of Fash who is still peering through the half-open doorway, and quite suddenly the ruined state of its ceiling is readily apparent. Not due to the ravages of time perhaps, but rather caused by the gigantic mottled worm of a dark purplish hue that bursts forth, rising up some thirty feet up even as its tail thrusts out as well, a giant deadly stinger that is roughly the size of a heavy lance carried by a mounted knight. With a roar, the gaping jaws of the monster - looking not unlike the entrance of a large cave itself - opens wide and thrusts toward the party! Only Neb is slow to react to the danger, as the dwarf had been looking up at the ceiling a little too long...

Everyone can post your actions in Round 1, save for Neb! Sobok, I figured you had the 'Senses' aura going, thus the bonus to initiative. Note that you'll need to move in order to get within melee range of the worm (Fash is currently in such a position), as it burst up from within the half-ruined long building and is rising up over the walls - which stand about 10' tall or so, which means you cannot reach the purple worm from the other side of the intact walls. You do have a couple rounds worth of Haste left, though! Don't forget that squares with rubble in them are difficult terrain, so movement cost is double normal!

No, Haste is long expired - we used wands of Lesser Vigor for the heal up, which give fast healing 1 for 11 rounds - which would expend all of the Haste spell.

I have until Sobok, Morrow and Verdan have gone to think of something useful to do... Although I am carrying the ultimate in anti swallow hole measures (Feather Token - Tree).

Neb knows the stinger contains a terribly powerful poison that is a paralytic - that is, it completely paralyzes its prey so it doesn't struggle (or try to fight back and potentially damage its innards) when swallowed.

"Well, I doubt it's a genius, but it's got to have a brain in there somewhere..." thinks Fash. Not sure that he's been spotted, he peers through the doorway (dashed pink oval), and uses the remains of the building wall for cover as he casts a spell, and then he hustles along the wall, staying tight to it and low as possible, trying to slip out of reach of retaliation...

Ok, mechanically, due to the Darkstalker feat, unless it has made a successful spot or listen check against my 29 stealth check, I am currently undetected... I can hide up against the wall, just peeking around the edge of the door, which should give me cover vs the worm. Cover keeps me from being AoO'ed, both for the spellcasting and the movement...

Standard - Cast Hold Monster, as I believe I am hidden to start, I use cloaked casting for a +1 DC, for Will save, DC 22 = 10 +5 +6 +1, or the worm is paralyzed.
move - Move 30' along the wall and behind another building (move following the dashed cyan line), whereupon I will try to hide again.

Sobok shifts his aura a bit and breathes a blast of fire at the great worm, though it doesn't seem to do much against it. Morrow casts a spell and sends three rays into the immense body of the creature, burning it somewhat more badly than did the dragon shaman - but not much more. Verdan casts a spell to bolster the resolve of his allies and everyone feels a surge of energy. The purple worm seems aware of Fash as its enormous head bobs in the gnome's direction momentarily, but despite its seeming attention it cannot resist the beguiler's powerful spell, and the enormous monster suddenly seems to lock up, frozen in place! Reonnyn sends an eldritch blast at the purple worm, wounding it further - even if it doesn't seem particularly hurt. The creature struggles to break free of its paralysis, but makes no headway...

Everyone can post your actions in Round 2 (Round 1 for Neb.) Note that the purple worm was considered flat-footed until it took its first action in Round 1, so it didn't get any AoOs (even though it could have taken at least one during that time...), so be warned! Well, except for the fact it's now paralyzed! Missed its save by 1, since the cloaked casting didn't happen - but apparently it wasn't needed!

Yes, you can! Keep in mind I will mold it into something reasonable (it's not going to blow off the stinger, for example - that's too powerful, though it could badly injure the stinger and give it a -2 to attacks with it, if you'd like) AND it will replace the 13 damage. What would you like your called shot to do?

The worm blows another save, and you can CDG next round. If it survives that (auto critical + death save at 10+DMG dealt), then I'll worry about us being in trouble.

This one does NOT have eyes (at least not that you can see!) And yes, you can try and CDG so long as you can take a full round action to do it - which those if you currently in melee can do next round if it fails its save again. Hooray for Hold Monster!

Neb hurls a fireball at the frozen worm, the explosion rocking it only slightly despite its helpless state - but the thing is enormous and will be difficult to bring down none the less. Sobok moves around the the building and strikes at the monster and hacks deeply into its side! Verdan readies himself to heal his comrades should they need it as Fash examines the area to the north - where a veritable forest of mushrooms and fungi grow wild in this section of the cavern. Their tall caps and wide blooms come in a riot of colors - greens, blues, purples and pale whites. Some of the mushroom caps rise to a height of more than ten feet, while smaller ones cover the floor between these giants. A few of the other fungus patches emit a phosphorescent glow, bathing the area in a dim, eerie light. The gnome spots a few large hillocks that he at first believes are natural, but then realizes they appear to be man-built structures complete with scarcely glimpsed windows and doors. Reonnyn sends an eldritch blast at the worm, which tears into its exposed tail, damaging the stinger.

Purple Worm’s Reflex Save (0 DEX): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 vs DC 19 = Failure!

Purple Worm’s Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 vs DC 21 = Failure!

The purple worm remains helpless as Sobok and Morrow cut it into smallish pieces until it looks as though it won't ever be moving again...

A search of the building indicate it served as a barracks of some kind, with mold covering the remains of several bunk beds that are completely rotted away, as well as a couple of heavy tables that are in slightly better condition. Under one of the tables is an iron box, that is locked.

It only had 27 HP left after its failed save, so yeah - I'm handwaving this and calling it dead. I can't believe you killed my purple worm before it even got a single attack! :)

Detect Magic.
