I'll be bringing in an Elven archery-focused Paladin; Patrick has more or less approved the concepts, and we're twiddling a few background details. Her name will be Daris to'Evaryth, and it looks like her initial interaction will be with the local Human Baron as an emissary from the Silver Elves. She's also got some direct experience with Things What Go Bump In The Night to the north of the Great Forest. (EG, things she did to get to 3rd level.)
I've got, after buying armor (MW Breastplate) and personal weapons (MW Curveblade, MW Composite Longbow for STR 14, arrows with cold iron and silver heads), a warhorse and assorted tack, bridle and barding, about 1400 GP worth of gear to allocate.
Some of that will be court clothes and a few other details - she's formally treated as a diplomat, and has to purchase things appropriate to her station.
Figure there's around 1200 to 1250 to spend.
1) What items, beyond the ubiquitous 750 GP Cleric-On-A-Stick would be useful? Do we have enough Cleric-On-A-Stick that adding more is less useful? (I believe she's limited to only using Wands with spells on the Paladin spell list.)
2) It would be particularly useful if the items suggested weren't JUST picked for combat optimization; for example, as an emissary, it might be useful to have a wand with a handful of charges of Zone of Truth.
3) Bonus points if you can work out a backstory for the item and why Daris has it, or who she got it from. Her family background stems from the idea that while Elves are mostly Chaotic Good, those who follow Lawful Good will tend to be separate clans, who perform several functions within Elven culture, but are generally regarded as 'useful blunt instruments'.
Her father is a Paladin, her brother is a cleric, domains that are appropriate are Good, Law, Knowledge, War, Animal and Plant.

AdAstra, I was thinking about this, and how about a Phylactery of Faithfulness? It might fit in with Daris' concept.
As for backstory, maybe Daris' family is a clan of ardent religionists that have protected their race and homeland in the name of the elvish deities for centuries. The Phylactery could contain a relic of one of those deities given to an ancestor, say a strand of Hanali Celani's hair, or a fragment of the Dawn Age Codex or something of that nature. A priceless family religious Icon....

I'll work through the Golarion gods first and pick one that fits best. I was thinking Iomedae - but then I might just as well have chosen a Paladin. It'll be sorted today.
I've chosen Sarenrae and updated my profile somewhat. Now I'll pick weapons, armor etc. and the final flavour.

Excellent Abstract/Corvus (White Raven, nice name BTW :)

Pretty much finished - but I'm bound to tinker until the game re-starts. One thing though - my faith requires (or best suits at least) a scimitar - but I originally planned to have a rapier for weapon finesse. As they do the same damage exactly, I presume I'm not breaking the rules too much by using a scimitar instead?
BTW most of my characters are Corvus xxx (Corax, Raaf - apparently the Dutch for raven). I like ravens...

Sweet. I'm a monkey man m'self.
Ok, the Dawnflower, one of my new favorites.
There is a big temple of the Dawnflower in Lumberton, and paladins of the Dawnflower flock to this area because of the challenges of the Silent Halls of Tharkad-Kûl. You will be able to claim a place to stay and food at the temple. The scimitar is fine.

No worries :)

Meta question:
1) How long should I presume Daris' negotiations with Baron Tallifer will go?
2) When is Mott's caravan leaving and who all is leaving with it?
3) Is anyone but Daris planning on sticking around for the wedding?
...or am I focused too much for court intrigue rather than filling Orcs full of arrows?

Umm, I would assume we can roleplay a bit, and handwaive the rest.

Mott was leaving in about a week. I left this openended so anyone could do what they needed to resupply and rest before heading off (either on the caravan or stick around Lumberton- either one works). Then of course we lost three players.
Of course, a week in PbP is a plastic subject, so we can get everyone set, and if you all decide to go on the caravan, I can handwaive the wedding and negotiations. If you stick around Lumberton I can write up more about the upcoming nuptuals and your negotiations with Vladomar Tallifer, 4th Baron Lumberton. Sunset/Crystal has an invite to the ceremony if you stay for sure, and I'm sure there will be a big party in town to celebrate the baron's wedding.

Understood. However, I know that as a player, if I'm hot to trot for 'backwoods hillbilly baron intrigue', and everyone else is going "Hey, let's go harvest orcs for XPs so we can level", I should probably put the hillbilly baron intrique on the back burner. :)
Well, I'll post a quick vote. In the next 24 hours everyine post up their preference here. You can either [A]accompany Mott's caravan through the Great Forest to the elven seaport of Aearmir OR [B] Make Lumberton your base of operations and adventure along the flanks of Tharkad and the Silent Halls. Most votes in 24 hours wins.

As a player, I'm indifferent; they both sound just fine to me.
Kolo, however, wants to get OUT of the area, so I'm voting A.

Oops left a little longer time on this but it's all good. So, looks like:
***
- Stay in Lumberton 3
- Move along 2
- Abstain 2
OK, for now we stay in Lumberton. I will get the wedding and attendant geopolitics set up. FOr those who want to move on, never fear, there's always a carvan headed Southeast. You can jump on that party train anytime.

Works for me. I brought up the "Should I table the sneaky politics stuff?" so that if people wanted to turn Orcs and undead into Chutney, they could. :)
Well actually the orcs and undead are near Lumberton, other more fey dangers await along the route to Aearmir ....
MUAHAHAHAHA!
