About Daris to'Evaryth

One of the younger members of the fealwe' of to'Evaryth, a group of elves interrelated by blood and political affiliation. They're more than a 'clan' of elves and slightly less than a political party.

They follow the teachings of the Law-weaver, and understand that it is their duty to stand in the darkness and shed light, to protect those who lack the vision to plan for the future.

Politically, the Silver Elves of the Great Forest claim that they're a 'loose knit' federation of villages ruled by the High Council. In practice, they're a bunch of long lived scheming machiavellians, with each family effectively running a loosely allied clan. Their regard for the Evaryth is roughly comparable to the way Lenin saw some of the revolutionaries: Useful idiots.

The Evaryth are too hide-bound to fit nicely into the polite fiction of Elven politics, and are too likely to take offense at the fluid nature of Elven agreements. Luckily, the Evaryth are also unlikely to employ assassins, poisons, or much in the way of political slander either.

Which makes them ideal for certain roles - those who man the battlements and the ramparts, those who lead expeditions to rid the fringes of Orcs and Goblinoids, and those who get sent as diplomats and couriers to bargain or deliver ultimatums in the name of the Council.

Which is why Daris is en route to Lumberton. Nearly seventy years ago, the first Baron Tallifer swore troth to the Elves in return for use of the land. It's only recently that the Elves noticed that there's a fourth Baron Tallifer. Daris has been sent to accept his fealty, and to make certain that expectations are met to keep relationships harmonious.

The Baronial Wedding that's impending is news to her as she arrives.
