Oh no!
All you Players will still be on. Bring your 1000 aliasesii and all the things you've already been doing. We'll just do it in the gameplay thread. Like normal people. ^_^

Weirdo.

I think Trask has just cemented himself as my favorite character to write. The die rolls he gets just make for such rich choices for his weird little personality.
Also, 3 votes for theory talk please!
So, the thing about Dungeon World is that it is rules lite. Very much so. You get a bunch of basic moves(Move=Thing you can do), one for each of the six basic stats, and then a few more based on your class, and that's it. It's supposed to free the game for storytelling.
And it has categories of success. You can roll Poorly, roll Average, or roll really Well1) But that's the first problem. But it's too lite. You don't really know what affect your Move will have on the world.
EVEN IF YOU ROLL A SUCCESS SOMETHING BAD STILL HAPPENS TO YOU. (You get a "soft" bad move on an Average success.)
Unless you roll REALLY well, something bad -is- going to happen to you.
2) It also gives out XP in a really odd way. You get an XP if you fail a roll.
Sounds nice, right? "Oh, your rolling sucks? Here's some XP for the next level. Maybe then you'll be competent."
But then you get the "good" players farming useless rolls for things their characters do bad just to get XP.
And if you don't do that? THEN YOU LAG BEHIND.
So the guy who's rolling ALL the time is gonna level more, whether he's helping the story or not!
So, it's a combination of rewarding suck and rewarding success with more suckage. You do average? Something bad is gonna keep happening to you and you'll fall behind in levels.
(Some people have said that levels don't matter in the game. My answer: Levels ALWAYS matter in a game. Nobody likes to lose, everyone wants to win. Simple as that.)
My solution? Meh. If I ran DW I'd take out the XP for sucking and just double XP for End of Session, like normal games. And maybe make the suck for bad rolls worse, but not do bad things if someone succeeds. (Seriously, it's the only game that punches you in the dick for rolling decent.)
Anyway, that's my rant. I always wanted to say that, but I always thought "It's not my game, I should just stay quiet."
But now I have one. It's my party and I'll cry about that other party I went to that one time if I wanna. =)
ZenFox will probably disagree. I kinda got him in to DW, and then he started running it. Meh. More power to him. I still like playing, but I understand why other people don't like it.

Actually, I hadn't thought about all the points you raised, being so new to DW, but they make sense.
My only counter-thought at this point is : when you totally fail and get XP, you also get something *really* bad happening to you as well (a "hard" bad move), so you run the risk of dying sooner if you're rolling a lot at things you're bad at just to get XP.

Mowing down innocents, getting a platter of curly fries...it's like the same thing, right? =)

Alright, I wasn't gonna, but now I am.
If you want a chance to play with Lord Borak the Despoiler, there's a Recruitment going on for an Evil Starfinder campaign.
I'm already in, Jelloarm is probably in. I think I can get the GM to take a couple more.

I posted the dice before writing the post. Not sure what I was going to do until after seeing the dice...so I won't do that no more
We can talk about this.
What I do for my posts, and this is only just for me, when I'm a player, so you can take it as you will, is that I'll first say what I want to do, them roll the dice, then finish with an allusion to a result.
i.e:
Lord Borak bears down on the captured man, "Tell us where the money is your precious Snicckerdoodle will never hump another pant leg again!"
Intimidation! = d20 + 4 = (2) + 4 = 6.
Even Lord Borak had to admit that threatening anything named Snickerdoodle just made the whole dam sentence sound weak. He even tried suppressing a smile of his own, and the aura of terror he had worked so hard for just evaporated.

Also!
Here's another game that is recruiting for 2 or 3 more. It's 5E, so you know it'll be quick and fun.
The thing is that the DM is new, and probably kinda young, so he's making some mistakes. Oh but he's trying so hard! I feel sorry for the guy.
I have a bunch of 5E characters and alias just sitting around so I threw in a Ranger I like and I'm just having fun with it. If any of you guys felt like taking a flyer on a 5E, feel free to try it out. See how it goes. =)

I've kinda given up at this point as all that happens is a bunch of conflicting statements and then you roll well and still don't succeed xD. I think I'm just going to watch a while and see if it improves but I can't follow the plot right now.

Zanbabe |

Still here too. If someone has an idea that might jump the next hurdle, I can have all my alts help. ... And yeah, hear you Riven, but maybe we just need a good idea. Or maybe it's a horror story where everyone dies in the end. :)

I don't see this as an accurate statement. You helped a drone bot stand up, and then wondered if it had vital data on the end boss. That's like asking a stripper in Cincinnati if she knows how to get in to Bill Gate's personal bathroom.
I had hoped that I'd been fair (if, admittedly, tough) in all the rolls. But I've not honored actions that clearly had no chance of success. You can't shoot down a satellite no matter how well you roll.

"And in local news, a local man was killed when a satellite fell on him. He was found with a rifle in his hand as he lay on the ground, staring at the sky. His last words were reported to be 'Totally....worth it.'"

Ooooh. I think Johnny Panic has the key. New characters can't catch the virus since the ruling was we aren't contagious anymore... so new characters are golden and *not* dying. There is a whole new world out there for them that doesn't necessarily end in 5 minutes.

ALL - FWIW, I typically skim the vast amounts of posts, just trying to get the big picture, rather than keep track of every PC's status. Then I jump in when I think I can do some good.
And Zanbabe - that's one of the reasons I created MiS as already on the station (I *think* she was the first non-infected PC)...

I just gotta say, that LONG list of grenade throwing made me LOL, literally. I was just imagining how Atlas was going to handle all those missed rolls (can you say "blow up your comrades"?) when GCU jumped in and solved the problem.
Also, you probably want Borak *alive* so that he can tell you where the antidote is...
Also also, shooting projectile weapons in a space station surrounded by vacuum is probably a VERY BAD idea, in case you miss and puncture the shell. Not to mention the damage a stray bullet could do to the engines.

Ditto - the ol' "What other aliases I got lying around" made me laugh. I was real nervous about seeing 30+ missed posts until I saw what had been done.

Mrmmph.
I've suffered a personal setback. Nothing permanent, but it's cut short my posting time.
I can either do something quick now, or I can work on something more satisfying in a week or so.
Thoughts?
