Celeste Aiden |

Celeste asks Lucius for permission to use the bathing facilities and not-so-politely suggests that the rest of the party should do so, so as to keep Lucius's place clean, before settling down for the night.

![]() |

"They are somewhat spartan I am afraid, but the servants can at least provide hot water." Lucius shows Celeste the way and then arranges for large amounts of hot water to be provided for bathing purposes.
Once his guests are fed and watered (and washed!) Lucius retires for the night, he spends some time in prayer and meditates upon certain bible passages, particularly the Revelation of St John, before falling into an uneasy sleep.

GM Cody |

Resting for the night, its relatively peaceful night.
Lucius: 1d20 + 3 - 10 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 10 = 8
Celeste: 1d20 + 4 - 10 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 10 = 5
Maud: 1d20 + 6 - 10 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 10 = 12
Elek: 1d20 + 4 - 10 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 10 = 13
In the middle of the night, Maud and Elek hear a noise, like someone is trying to open the door or even pick the lock to the Cardinal's apartments.
Maud: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Celeste: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Elek: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Lucius: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Unknown: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Whoever it is continues jingling the lock, trying to pick the door. Maud and Elek are both just barely coming out of being asleep, presumably unarmored.

ack, I forgot to keep light armor for when Elek is resting! GM Cody, is there some sort of buffcoat that came with the breastplate that Elek would be wearing?
'What is that.' Sleeping on his bedroll against the door Elek hears someone fidgeting with the door. Grasping the handle of his longsword, Elek calls out loudly, "Alarm, Alarm, Zere is somevone at za door!"

Maud rolling over and rubbing her eyes. what the, its the middle of the night. Elek did you head it too? Hey everyone wake up, someone is at the door.." she reaches down to grab she long spear.
AC w/o Armour is 11

GM Cody |

Hah okay, I did my best to find a somewhat RPG map that sort-of came close to what was described.
Elek jumps up shouting, alarm, waking up just about everyone in the apartment, Maud springs into action grabbing her longspear.

Lucius rolls out of his bed and lands heavily on his feet. Grasping a robe he shrugs it on and belts it before fumbling for his candle.
I'm guessing that will be my round?

Celeste Aiden |

Celeste gets out of her sofa, looking around blearily. "Lucius -is it common for you have visitors at night? If that's so - I'd trade off the privileges of rank for a good nights sleep." She snaps her fingers and the room is filled with light.

Then she turns to Lucius, "Where were we supposed to sleep again?"People will need to sleep on sofas etc but it should work.
With your permission GM Cody, I moved Elek in front of the doorway. Assuming there was only one door going into the apartment, Elek would have slept in front of it. He has become extremely paranoid.

GM Cody |

Ah yeah, I wasn't sure if you were serious about sleeping in front of the door or just joking around
With Elek laying so close to the door he hears someone swear on the other side of the door, a clatter of tools falls to the ground and the sound of running!

I was serious, It can't be more uncomfortable than sleeping outside, and I want Elek to be paranoid. Hopefully we haven't ruined and plot points...
'What...who...' Holding on to the sword as he Jumps to his feet, Elek tears the door open, trying to see what's going on. 'Who's out here?"

"maybe it's not a thief and it's just a poor soul needing to confess his sins to the cardinal in these times of unrest?" she asks unsteadily.
Maud moves up about 15feet closer to Elek

Celeste Aiden |

"If he wanted to confess his sins, he should have knocked and not tried to pick open the door."Celeste mutters darkly.
Celeste gets out of the sofa and peers of of the door to see if she can spot anyone.

GM Cody |

Maud and Celeste move up, and Elek opens the door peering out he sees a rogue-ish looking figure at the end of the hallway making a break for the stairs. He is dressed in blacks and grays and his face is covered.

Lucius leaves his room just in time to see Maud and Elek rushing out of the apartment. He hurries to the window and calls out.
"Guards - a thief in Cardinal Borgia's rooms. Stop him if you can!"
This is going to go badly wrong...
Having called loudly he waits at the window to see what happens next.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

GM Cody |

Oh hunh, I was wondering when Lucius was gonna post, turns out he did, like two days ago! Damn you Paizo!! *Shakes fist angrily at the screen*
As Lucius calls for the guards, Maud, Elek and Celeste notice two slumped over figures, presumably the guards, unconscious.
The Rogue glares at Maud, pulls a Hand crossbow out from beneath his cloak, the bolt glistens a sickly green.
He grins as he fires at her.
Crossbow + PBS: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 1 = 22

Grimacing as she fights off the poison, and wiping her hand on her gut, smearing the green slime. "nice, try, may God be with you, during your demise, you will wish you were just here for penance."

He quickly asks Celeste, "May I have une Qvuarrel?"
two move actions, picks up crossbow moves to window.
edit: just realized it's a hand crossbow, maybe he throw it at him next round... or could use it to track down the assassin, it can't be very common and I'm sure the Italian Mafia won't like the fact that someone is using one of their weapons for killing the only people willing to go outside the city and fight demons ;)

GM Cody |

He isn't neccesarily 40 feet ahead of you, just uh 40 feet down from you guys, I also wasn't expecting him to survive the fall so easily. Maud you're up by the way, are you gonna dive out after him lol

![]() |

yeeeaah I'm not gonna jump out the window lol
Moving up Maud taps her long spear on the ground. "well unless one of you wants to jump after him we might have to just let him get away. Maybe we can get some more guards for the Cardinal's rooms or take some watch shifts. My crossbow is back in the room. "
move action move 30feet up.

![]() |

Lucius approaches the window and watches with the rest as the thief flees. "This is concerning... An overt effort like this is very uncommon in the Vatican. We tend to solve everything with politics instead."

Elek Kardforgató |
'Assassin?' Watching the man on the ground, then turning to the cardinal, then back to toward the window. "Vas ermorden his objective? He vas careful not to killen za guards. Und za dart zat he used on Maud only veakened her. Perchance it vas a varning. Or zat he vas after ein Gegenstand, eerr looking for something."
Finally looking at Maud realizing she had a bolt that fit the handbow, he cocks the weapons, "May I have za dart?"
Talking is a free action, may we assume that cocking the weapon was his first move in the next round? If Maud give him the bolt he will fire at the retreating assassin.

GM Cody |

Sure
The assassin stands up looking up at all of you in the window, offering a sneer as he runs off into the night.
You can make your attack though if you'd like

![]() |

"yes of course," handing the bolt to Elek, Maud wipes the sticky green goo on her pants. "here you go"

Elek Kardforgató |
'Blast, he's moving' Einar quickly loads the odd little hand-cross bow. Squeezing the trigger he sends the bolt flying. Placing his other hand over his eyes, trying to see into the shadows to see if it hit. "Gott im Himmel, I should have just thrown za Verdammte maschine"
attack: untrained hand crossbow... let alone the 30 ft range increment, do I get help since he is shooting down?
attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 4 = 15 for damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

GM Cody |

I don't think high ground normally applies to ranged weapons, but I'll give it to ya because you were 1 away from hitting him!
Elek fires off the hand crossbow, its tiny bolt screaming through the air and sticking in the rogue. He cries out in pain but manages to continue hobbling away.
Running off into the night and darkness, his plan, whatever it was, foiled.

Elek Kardforgató |
Thanks GM Cody, I figured it's easier to shoot in a straight line if the arrow is dropping.
'A lucky hit. I hope it bleeds profusely.' Elek smiles, "Vee may be able to follow za blood trail." Looking at the Cardinal, "Shall vee go back to za apartment to gather our gear und follow der mörder?"

Celeste Aiden |

"He's got a headstart on us - I don't think we'll be able to track him down," Celeste disagrees. "I think it's just better to return to the cardinal's chambers, but make sure someone keeps watch for the rest of the night."

![]() |

"I'll call a locksmith in the morning." Lucius muses, partly to himself. "Rodrigo will have someone I'm sure..."

Elek Kardforgató |
'Able to track him down.' Elek looks at the witch as if she insulted his mother. "Not able to track der mörder. He vill be leaving a trail of blood!"
Then looking at the Cardinal, "Unless fixing der türschloss, za doorlock, is more important, I may be able to hep vit zat."
Which ever the group wants to do, if we want to try and follow the assassin Elek has track. IF not, we can go back to the apartment.
Hey GM Cody, I hope it's ok if Elek offered to fix the lock. In his background I said "Elek was a tinker like his father before him, specializing in tin-smithy, clock repair and lock making" That is why he had 'disable device.'

Celeste Aiden |

"And I bet he has friends waiting to ambush us." Celeste answers snippily. "It's also dark - how well will you spot an ambush in the dark? And a glowing light in darkness paints you as a shiny glowing target."
Experimentally Celeste looks at the blood trail.
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Trackable?

GM Cody |

After gearing up, you guys head down to the lawn to try and find his trail.
You guys are able to find his blood trail, its a bit hard to track in the night but you guys can certainly try and press on to follow him.
Sounds like you guys are split? half want to track, other half want to rest?

![]() |

I'm am also fine either way, as long as i can get my gear back on im good to move along with following the trail of blood :)

Elek Kardforgató |
Earlier:
After discussing the likelihood of being able to track the assassin, Elek quickly returns to the Cardinals apartment, donning his gear, he takes a torch out of his pack, after lighting it he proceeds to where he thought the assassin was seen last.
now
Looking around he sees the same blood splatter that Celeste saw. 'Zere it is, I vill attempt to follow it." holding the torch close to the ground he looks for anymore signs of the culprit.
survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 ouch, I think he hit his head on something.

GM Cody |

Sorry for the delay guys, work just got a little crazy and one of my friends is going through something right now that has had me at his house for the past couple of days in the evenings.
Elek gears up and gets back to tracking the trailing, he's able to spot the faint blood trails left by the guy. Following them, the blood becomes fainter and more difficult to pick up.
elek's Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
But he's able to find some other clues, a foot depression, some broken hedges, and a few more spatters of blood.
You're eventually able to track him to what appears to be a cemetery, a bloodied hand print betrays his location as being down into a mausoleum's crypt.

Elek Kardforgató |
I like your roll better than mine!
'A tale tell hand print, could as easily be intentional as a mistake. Hope were not going into a trap.' Holding the torch near the handprint so the others can see it. Elek nods then whispers. "It appears zat der mörder has entered der Krypta."
Elek looks around, moving his torch one direction than another, not seeing anything he continues. "I believe zis vould be a good place for une Überfall, A trap. So let me go ahead a little bit und flush zem out."
Looking at Maud and Celeste then the Cardinal, "Pater, you should stay to za back, if zay are here for any of us it vould be you."
Drawing his 'acquired' axe from where it is strapped to his rucksack, he holds it in one hand, while holding the torch in the other. Elek moves down the steps and enters the crypt. Keeping a careful eye out.
