Squeak Warforged |

Action 1
Squeak peered in through the window with more curiosity than reverence. In truth he wasn't sure Palisade really understood what a goddess was, but humans - humanoids he corrected himself mentally - were strangely sensitive about religion.
Action 2
Vi moved like greased lightning in the rain. Squeak signalled to Palisade, then started to shuffle carefully forward. "She has point." he noted.
if he can get near enough to the body.
"Severe damage. It may be possible to repair." a quick glance at Palisade, then back at Vi.
"Arleth. Return to group immediately. We need you on lookout." Squeak ordered, then added a question not *quite* aimed at Bronwyn. "This could be a trap. Should we render aid, or leave the area?"

Palisade |

Arleth stood staring for a moment. "Goddess-creator? I thought you were built by people? Wizards or something?" Her brain just could not compute what had just happened. She wondered if the machine was broken or malfunctioning.
"Explanation. Melindri d'Cannith was the magewright resposbile for overseeing the final stages of the creation of the patch of Warforged this unit belonged to. When this one emerged from the flames of the Creation Forge, she was there to welcome it. She built upon the knowledge granted to this one at the moment of its creation. She taught this one of the world outside the Cannith enclave."
"Statement. Most beings believe themselves made in the image of their creator. This one knows it to be true and can offer concrete proof of the fact. Statement. Strong belief in gods results in magic classified 'divine'. This one's belief in its creator results in similar magic."
"Conclusion. Melindri d'Cannith is a goddess."
I welcome debate on the matter during the coming months ;^)

Palisade |

"This could be a trap. Should we render aid, or leave the area?"
"Statement. Advise we leave. This one sees no immediate benefit in attempting to render assistance. Protection of the Lady d'Deneith remains paramount." Palisade declared, staring down at the body impassively - it had seen more dead bodies that even it could remember, many of them killed for no good reason. Seeing one more had very little impact on it.
Will, of course, defer to Bronwyn's decision, but only up to a point. She might need to be protected despite herself ;^)

"Arleth. Return to group immediately. We need you on lookout." Squeak ordered, then added a question not *quite* aimed at Bronwyn. "This could be a trap. Should we render aid, or leave the area?"
Ignoring the warforged's order, Arleth moved cautiously towards the body, body tense, alert for anything. The pouring rain made it hard to see or hear anything. Crouching beside the body, she checked to see if he was still alive.

"Khyberlover!" The curse slipped out of Arleth as the massive 'forged came from nowhere and started to rip them up. Feeling incredibly vulnerable, she reached to her belt and grabbed the slim wand she had tied there. Triggering it with a word, she felt a rush of magical energy surround her.
Mage armour or not, she was still MUCH too close to that massive blade. Arleth threw herself backwards into a tumble, hoping to get out of reach before she found herself skewered.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Unfortunately, the heavy rain and the body behind her ruined her movement, and she ended up sprawled in a puddle. The enemy 'forged took advantage of her unlucky position, swinging his greataxe at her legs with an hostforsaken amount of strength. Arleth scrambled backwards, hoping to remain in one piece.
Trigger wand of mage armour, AC +4, acrobatics to move backwards 10 feet.

Squeak Warforged |

dang, just realised had not specified mutatgen: ok, 1= str, 2 =dex, 3=con. 1d3 ⇒ 3. Nuts, con. I was hoping for str, or at least dex.
@Fabian: Does the +2 nat armour stack?
Squeak stumbled back. His desperate step back to avoid the axe had left him perilously close to the edge. 'Don't fall down, don't fall down!
He stabbed the acceleration fluid into the port built into his left chest socket - just over where a human's heart would be. The effect was instant. The ever-present THRUMMMMMM of magic kicked up a notch. His eyes flared, burning green. "Friend..." he said, in a deep voice with an eerie double harmonic "Friend, your intel is bad. No owner here. Disengage or be thrown off. No 'forged need be scrapped tonight." To emphasise the threat of his words, he gripped the scrapper's hammer he carried in both hands.

Palisade |

Nice link!
The new forged’s armor glistened with silvery hues under the rain; it laughed, “You both are flesh-lovers and deserve to die. Which one of these weak-fleshed is your owner?”
"Statement. You are not worthy of cleaning the rust from owner-commander's greaves," Palisade declared as it drew its heavy blade and raised it to a high guard. "Stand down and prepare to be dismembered."
Draw a weapon as a move action... could try to take a 5' step but it'd be hard to block the enemy from Bronwyn completely so won't bother.
Alchemical fluids from its its inner reservoirs dripped from the wound the enemy's axe had cut into its body. A formidable blow, particularly given it was delivered even as the 'forged made its approach. Palisade was aware of the wound, as it aware of the rain pelting its head, but there was no pain to go with the trauma. It was severely injured, but it could still function.
Without further words it brought its greatsword around in a quick chop, intending to cut off the enemy's head with its first swing, but the other 'forged stepped back smartly, avoiding the blade.

Arleth was torn. This was not her fight. Clearly their crazed opponent had some sort of issue with Squeak and Palisade, and now that they had their weapons in hand, they seemed more than perfectly capable of handling the opponent themselves. Never mind the flames that the girl-wizard had at her command!
Also, that whistle meant the capes would be here soon. If it wasn't finished by then, they'd take care of it.
On the other hand, if she helped, there might be a bonus in it for her...
She knew she could do more damage if she got in flanking position, but it was too dangerous. A wrong move and she'd be split in half, or worse, take a dive over the edge. On the other hand, she wasn't very familiar with her second-hand crossbow, and if she fired it from this range she probably had a good chance of hitting one of her clients.
Too many hands... Self-preservation won, and Arleth grabbed the crossbow from her side and slid a bolt into it.
I don't think I can shoot as well this turn? Move equivalent to draw, and again to load? But just in case I can...
to hit: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 4 = 5
Arleth pulled the trigger, but the driving rain and her unfamiliarity with the weapon worked against her, and the bolt disappeared harmlessly over the side of the bridge.
Phew! Glad I didn't use that roll on tumble...

Palisade |

I can see where this is going ;^)
The axe-wielding foe made a tactical mistake in opening itself from attack from opposive sides, Palisade notes as it took a step to position himself behind the enemy and swung its blunt-tipped gratsword, and this time the enemy could not so easily evade the blow.
Melee, greatsword: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + (4) + 2 = 21 Action point time, pride requires at least one hit ;^) Plus flank.
Damage, greatsword: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 = 10
The blade cut a long diagonal wound into the enemy 'forged's armor and body plating, cutting through metal and lifewood, severing alchemical fluid ducts, and Palisade felt a fierce pleasure in repaying injury with injury.

I'm back from my turkey coma :) If Bronwyn casts Burning Hands at Cutter, will she also catch Squeak? If so, she'd cast Fire Jet again. Just wondering.
The way things are right now, it would be fine. However, we need to take a look at initiatives because if Palisade steps up to swing his sword then he would get caught.
I'm OK with you guys delaying actions but let's do that IC.
Squeak...
I intend to recap later today.

The only one slower than Palisade is Squak, and he's already in melee range.
If you don't move before she casts, she can miss Squeak.
Burning Hands is a 15' cone; see here for the shape that she can give it.

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

Bronwyn was still flabbergasted that someone would have the gall to attack complete strangers with no provocation. Squeak and Palisade unsurprisingly went to her defense but it was nice that Arleth hadn't run off. Seeing the crazied warforge go for Squeak, she demands, "Leave him alone!" With a couple quick movements and odd sounding words, flames erupt from her hands which she directs to engulf Cutter while missing Squeak.

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

The wizard still couldn't understand what had made the warforged so angry but he was spoiling her planned evening of fun. For that reason, and the fact that she was getting soaked in the rain, she would make him continue to burn.
She pointed her finger at him and once again unleashed a line of fire towards the singed warforged.
Casting another fire jet at Cutter. Since it's a line of fire, it shouldn't affect either Squeak or Palisade. She doesn't have to make an attack roll so it should be ok.

Palisade |

Melee, greatsword: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
The enemy was undoubtably strong, but all too single-minded in its attack against one while ignoring the others. Despite the deep wound Palisade's sword had delivered the enemy 'forged paid it no mind as it focused on penetrating Squeak's defenses. The heavy assault 'forged took another swing at the enemy's apparently unprotected back, only to have the backswing of its axe block the blow.
'Not so inexperienced after all,' Palisade thought, updating its estimate of the enemy's threat level a notch higher. 'Perhaps enemy is experienced at fighting multiple opponents.'
You might want to stay furher than 5' from melee unless you want to take part in it ;^) The enemy might get bored with Squeak and realize it can 5' step and full attack one of you weak fleshbags ;^)

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

Bronwyn was relieved when . She would have enjoyed watching the crazy 'forged burn but because it was raining it was just smoldering - which was disappointing.
She points to the satchel. "Do we look to see why this poor soul was killed by the crazy warforged? Or do we go and finally have the meal I was promised. If we stay here, we'll never get to go dancing."

Vi Olaro |

As their destroyed opponent lay smouldering on the skybridge, Arleth's mind raced.
The 'cloaks are coming. Do we stay or run? Stay means questions, probably all evening. Identity checks. Do I have my guide papers on me? Yes, in pocket.
Run means free evening. But could be mistake. Might be witnesses. Two 'forged in town hard to miss. Could get back to us.
Wrong decision, either way, could get me fired. Need information...
Judging from the whistles, they only had one minute, maybe less, before the 'cloaks were on them.
Reaching for the satchel, Arleth started to quickly rifle through the papers. "Ma'am, can you check the dead 'forged? See if he's carrying anything? We might need to run for it, but depending on who this is, it might be better to stay and talk to the 'cloaks. If we run, and they catch us later, it could go very badly for us."
What's in the satchel? I assume that Vi has some sort of license or papers, as her guide job is legal? Is it only the wealthy/important who have papers on them?

Palisade |

"Ma'am, can you check the dead 'forged? See if he's carrying anything? We might need to run for it, but depending on who this is, it might be better to stay and talk to the 'cloaks. If we run, and they catch us later, it could go very badly for us."
As the enemy 'forged fell Palisade didn't leave anything to chance - it wasn't unknown for a fatally injured but determined enemy try to lure his prey within reach of one last suicidal attack. Thus, the warforged stepped over and stomped heavily on the fallen enemy, until its armored boot had bounded the enemy 'forged's head flat.
Satisfied, Palisade stepped clear of the body and lowered the tip of his heavy blade on the flagstones but didn't put the weapon away. Just because one threat had been eliminated didn't mean there were no others lurking in the shadows. Had it been up to it, Palisade would have insisted on escorting Lady d'Deneith away from the scene before the authorities arrived, but it was unfamiliar with the intricacies of the law in Sharn, and they had hired Arleth Fadi exactly because of her supposed expertice in the matter. If the female suggested they stay and talk things through, it seemed prudent to listen to her advice.

Fabian Benavente |

As the warforged fell, a strange contraption broke away from its torso. What appeared to a mechanical humming bird surprised everyone as it hovered about as if getting its bearings and then took off into the night.
The dead 'forged had its battleaxe, sling with 15 bullets, traveling
cloak, backpack, and an unguent or oil in a small flask.

Identification papers in the dead body’s shirt pocket provided the victim’s name (Bonal Geldem), his position at the university (provost), and his affiliation (School of Pre-Galifar Studies at Morgrave University).
A small pouch hanging on the body’s belt contained 10 silver pieces and 2 gold pieces.
The satchel, obviously well made and stylish, contained quills and inks, six blank sheets of fine Karrnathi paper, a wrapped apple, and Bonal’s journal.

Squeak Warforged |

"Very nice, Miss d'Deneith." Squeak stated in quiet approval, and lost his chance to salvage the rogue's neural matrix. His eyes - dying down as the combat faded - surged again at the creak of Palisade's foot rupturing the cutter's head.
Squeak drew another alchemical experiment from the satchel recessed into his side armour and injected it into the port in his chest. A ticking noise started up inside him, an accompaniment to the thrumm of magic. Near-effortlessly he reached over and flipped the salvage that had once been a warforged.
Actuators strained as he tried to lift the 'forged up to Bronwyn. "Palisade. Assistance?" he requested.

Actuators strained as he lifted the 'forged up to Bronwyn.
Standard action to take Ant Haul Extract. Move action? Standard action? to lift. Heavy Load is 300-450 lbs at the moment. Not sure if this thing can be lifted with that, or if it has Adamantine plating.
Lifting it to Bronwyn might make it easier for it to be searched, and might have loose goods fall from it. Certainly Squeak is hoping to run off with it, albeit at a 15ft movement.

Fabian Benavente |

What's in the satchel? I assume that Vi has some sort of license or papers, as her guide job is legal? Is it only the wealthy/important who have papers on them?
Most people of the middle and upper classes, at least in the most civilized areas of Khorvaire (Aundair, Breland, Karrnath, Thrane, Zilargo, and the Mror Holds) carry identification papers with them at
all times. So Bronwyn and 'Arleth' would have papers but I don't think the warforged do.
Arleth can have some sort of license if you want.

Palisade |

Actuators strained as he tried to lift the 'forged up to Bronwyn. "Palisade. Assistance?" he requested.
"Complying," Palisade replied, releasing one hand from the pommel of its sword to lift the fallen 'forged from one side while keeping its sole eye on the darkness around them.
About papers: I brought a set for Palisade - reflex action mostly. And I like the fact Palisade carries around a reminder that it owns itself now, no matter how difficult it finds the concept.

Vi Olaro |

"What in Dolurrh was that thing?" She'd never seen a mechanical/magical bird thing like that before, and she wasn't happy about it. Not at all.
Arleth pocketed the coin pouch automatically, as well as the oil the 'forged carried. Everything else she left in place, and stepped back from the body. Taking a quick look at herself, she made sure she didn't have any blood on her. The driving rain made that part easy.
Wiping water from her face, she hesitated a few precious seconds longer. She hated being unsure what to do in a situation like this. It came from using a Face she hadn't fully developed yet. Amelia would definitely stay and talk to the 'cloaks, Jorlyn would grab everything and run. Most of her regular Faces were law-abiding citizens of Sharn, and she suspected that Arleth was too.
But this whole thing was crabbed, and she didn't like it at all. She couldn't remember ever hearing about a 'forged murdering a regular citizen, and here she was, standing with two more of them.
If nobody protests, Arleth won't run away. Unless somebody objects, we can add the next bit to move things along.
The whistles were closer, then it was too late. She'd spent too long in Cloud City, trying to decide what to do, and her inaction made the decision for her. The 'cloaks had arrived.

Squeak glanced over at the fallen human.

"Some sort of construct? A messenger perhaps? It is beautifully made - I have never seen anything like it in the war."
Squeak does not have Papers, dang it, but does own a house. Must have bought it recently. Sounds like he might be about to regret waiting for the change of address before registering for new papers.
Would the papers be incinerated by fire? He'll hit himself with one of his bombs and hold out the burned remnant of something if he needs to.
Cutter DOES NOT have papers, right?

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

As the hummingbird appeared, Bronwyn shrieked and dove for cover behind Squeak. She peaked out from under his arm and studied the thing as it flew away.

It looks like I may have burned most anything useful if he was carrying papers at all." She quickly rifles through the backpack.
Anything of interest?
As she searches the backpack she asks Arleth, "You were looking in the satchel, right? Find anything interesting?"
What does the journal say?

Vi Olaro |

Action 1.
Arleth took a very quick look through the last few pages of the journal, shielding it with her body so it didn't get too wet.
Action 2.
Very slowly, Arleth placed her crossbow and both daggers on the rain-soaked bridge. Holding her hands open, she said, "We were attacked. We were on our way to The Little Plate, when I noticed this fellow here," she gestured to the corpse, "and movement by the edge of the bridge. We came to see if he needed help, but before we could, were attacked by this warforged." This time she gestured to the pulped-headed 'forged in Squeak and Palisade's arms.
"It seemed quite intent on destroying my companions, the 'forged known as Squeak and Palisade," she pointed to each by way of introduction. "Having no time to all for help, we defended ourselves, and prevailed. Then we waited for you to arrive."

This was definitely not the type of evening that Bronwyn had dressed for but it certainly hadn't been boring. She let Arleth speak for them since she was familiar with the ways of Sharn. The wizard waited to see how the law responded to the truth of Arleth's words before pulling the 'do you know who I am?' card.

Palisade |

Understanding well its own limitations where social interaction was concerned, Palisade was happy to leave the dialogue to Arleth Fadi. Instead, it focused on looking as nonthreatening as it was possible, standing silently and unmovingly to stare down at the dwarven officer of the law.
