I'm done crunch and fluff, I think.

Yay tomorrow!

Warforged Cleric 6 | AC 21/23 | HP 51 | HD 5/5 |1st 4/4, 2nd 3/3, 3rd 3/3

Just about done, fiddling with some background details and perhaps trying to buy something with the last remaining 200g, but then again, apart from armor and weapons (of which he has plenty), Palisade's supposed to travel light.

Hey - as regards weight; could they mean the x8 is instead of the x4 normal weight multiplier for a warforged?
That would mean squeak would only weigh 600lbs.
I ask because I'm a bit worried a lot of they flying stuff in the city might not be rated for a 1.2 ton warforged, and want to know whether that should be a worry for Squeak.

Just to confirm: 'met with Vi' in this case meaning met up again, right? Not met for the first time. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think that would be a much different scene, and we already have a relationship.

let's say the following:

current day - 2 days: party (Bronwyn and warforged) arrive in Sharn and contacts 'contact' to hire a guide
current day - 1 day: you meet Vi 'briefly' and set a date for the next night
current day - you meet Vi again at nighttime so Brownyn can get her first taste of Sharn nightlife

I'm Ok with Squeak weighing 600 lbs

Palisade: What orisons and spells are memorized?

Squeak: You have to repeat after me, "I shall not optimize my PCs in Fabian's games..." :)
Why do you have 3 feats?
I don't like 'elemental redundancy' since it makes you lose some classical warforged resistances; one alternate racial trait is enough. I don't like vestigial arm; too gimmicky to throw extra bombs. Warforged are freaky enough without an extra arm.
What extracts are prepared?
You have two abilities at 8; please raise one of those to at least 10.

Vi: no comment

Bronwyn: What spells are in your spellbook?
FYI, bracers of armor and mage armor do NOT stack.
What is your 3rd feat?

Action 1:

Bronwyn’s body was thrumming with excitement. If she had been younger, she probably would have been jumping and clapping her hands. She had spent a lot of grueling years studying at the Twelve and she felt she had earned the opportunity to have a little fun and see the world – and what better place to start than Sharn? Her head moved from one side to the other as she took in the wonders of the City of Towers. Had she been alone, she would have been an easy mark for anyone taking advantage of naïve visitors but lucky for her she was flanked by two towering warforged. It’s not that she was entirely pleased by their presence but she was getting used to them. They meant well and treated her with the appropriate reverence. She still didn’t know why her father, Kavros, had told them to protect her. She was perfectly capable of wielding enough magic to protect herself even though her father never saw it that way. Seems like you almost burn down your family home or make a few extravagant purchases and suddenly you’re in need of protection. It didn’t make any sense to the mage.

As they rode the magical lift, Bronwyn was almost entranced by the other woman’s dress. It was truly spectacular how the colours changed as the woman moved. The wizard imagined that a similar dress that only used reds, oranges, and yellows would give the appearance of wearing fire. The idea appealed to her and when they exited the elevator she told their guide as much. ”Arleth, do you have any idea where that lady would have bought her dress? I would like to find one with a specific colour spectrum. I think it would be fabulous, don’t you agree?”

tag Arleth

In expectation of enjoying the Sharn nightlife, Bronwyn had worn one of her best dresses. It was a deep burnt orange colour with intricate embroidery on the bodice. It was modest in cut but very well-tailored to her form. Even though she still had her hair pulled back in her usual ponytail with her accompanying silver flower barrettes, she had taken the time to curl her hair so that dark waves cascaded around her shoulders. However, the most striking thing that Bronwyn wore was an important part of her. On her neck slightly below her left ear was the dragonmark of House Deneith.

”So where are you taking us first, Arleth? Oooh, if we’re going dancing then you can dance with me! It’s not like Squeaky or Palisades are going to whirl me around the dance floor, am I right? And food, we need to find good food and lots of it. I’m star-ved!” she says dramatically. ”We don’t want me fainting from hunger, do we?”

Her 3rd feat is Spell Specialization with Burning Hands for now. Forgot that Mage Armor and the bracers don't stack. I may rethink the bracers and try to finalize equipment/magical stuffs either tonight or tomorrow. I'll add the spells in my spellbook into her profile shortly.

One feat was a misctaegorised discovery (Vestigial Arm), I have changed it to Preserve Organs (additional redundancy). I know I want a discovery around messing with his own structure, was tossing up between the two.
Other was a bonus from Grenadier (replacing Brew Potion)

Vi awoke, and as was her habit, immediately checked her calendar. Zol. Second day of the week. Bappy first. Vi stretched and smiled. Nothing like starting the day with chocolate.

Arising out of bed, she Changed into Bapneerer Zamwish, gnome chocolatier. He dressed in his standard cook's clothes and stained apron. Moving quietly through the deserted attic he slept in three days a week, Bappy made his way down the secret stairs and silently slipped into the alley. Rubbing Bappy's bulbous nose, he followed it a few minutes walk away to Chastogar Chettle's Chocolaterie.

He arrived just before sunup, as was his custom. Chastogar greeted Bappy with a grunt and a cup of hot chocolate, as was his custom. Bappy drank it, Heavenly!, tucked his blue wispy hair up into his chef's hat, and got to work.

Six hours and several hundred truffles later, Bappy ate four pan-chocolate for his lunch, hung up his hat, and waved goodbye to Chastogar. Making his way back to the alley, he checked to make sure it was empty and stepped into the hidden door. Not bothering with light, Vi Changed, then traded Bappy's clothes for Amelia's. Exiting the alley from the other direction, she enjoyed a leisurely half-hour stroll from the gnome district of Deniyas, out of Mid-Menthis, up the lifts and across the bridges to Ocean View. There, she checked in at Halli's Housekeeping and got the afternoon's cleaning assignment.

Ensuring that her maid's bun was tidy and secure, she carried her bucket of cleaning supplies to the mansion. Her eyes widened - it was a new address to her, and one of the larger she's been to. Once inside, she knew that she'd be returning as Jorlyn to raid the place in a month or two. And after being shouted at twice for not cleaning the floors well enough (unfounded- Amelia was extremely particular), she knew she wouldn't even feel bad about robbing them.

Checking the time, she realized she had to hustle if she was to meet the rich girl on time. Heading back to the Halli's, she turned in her supplies and made use of the facilities. Once alone, she quickly changed from Amelia's uniform to Arleth's leather trousers and close-fitting vest. Slipping her Sleeves on, she triggered them so that it appeared she was still dressed as Amelia. She left, and once she was out, found a quiet alley in which to Change. Keeping the now-invisible Sleeves on, and wearing Arleth's face, she hurried out to collect the rest of her stash and find her clients.

Finally properly attired with a well-worn crossbow across her back, a dagger at her hip and a second poking up out of her boot, and a worn canvas satchel over her shoulder, Vi consulted her sketch of Arleth and compared it with her reflection. Earrings! Pulling a handful of various silver rings from her pants pocket, she Changed her ears to include pierced holes, and quickly put the earrings in.

Another look in the mirror, and she felt confidant she was ready to go. Brown hair in braids, black tattoo twisting across one shoulder and out of sight. She'd only been Arleth a few times and was still getting used to the half-elf guide. It wasn't the same as Changing into Bappy or Tiatha; she'd been playing them for years. Clearing her throat and saying her name thrice (as was her ritual after Changing), she walked up to meet her clients - the strange rich mage and her two hulking bodyguards.

Quote:
”Arleth, do you have any idea where that lady would have bought her dress? I would like to find one with a specific colour spectrum. I think it would be fabulous, don’t you agree?”

Thinking of Zoë and her many shopping sprees, Arleth smiled. "One of the dressmakers in Platinum Heights, I would guess. I can take you there tomorrow, if you like. It won't be cheap, I'll warn you now." She watched the mage carefully - she was trying to assess just how rich she was.

Arleth was unable to resist smiling at the girl. Woman, she supposed, though it was hard to think of her as a woman grown. "I don't dance much, ma'am, but you won't lack for partners, I promise. But if it's food you want first, I know a few places. Tell me, do you like spicy food?"

Craning her head up to look at the tall warforged, Squeak, and the even taller one, Palisade, she said, "What of you, gentlemen. Gentleforged? Forgive me, I don't know the proper terms of address. We've seen few Warforged in Upper Sharn, especially since the end of the War. Do you eat?"

Just read all the profiles - it's great that Palisade is going to be festooned with small animals, and Vi doesn't like animals. Love that Bronwyn has either given the 'forged nicknames or is just getting them wrong. And "that damn warforged with the squeak" has got to be the best full name I've ever seen. And don't worry, my posts won't all be chapter books. I'm just really enjoying Vi already. :)

”Correction. This one is not equipped with reproductive organs, thus reference to sexual orientation is incorrent. Nor has this unit ever been referred to as ‘gentle’.” The small ironwork’s weight of metal in weapons and armour Palisade wore clattered as it took a heavy step forward. ”Statement. Please refer to this one with its official designation. Namely, Palisade.” The single-eyes warforged’s gravelly voice issued forth from the thin slit on the bottom of its faceplate. It didn’t turn to regard the half-elf as it spoke; instead, it kept scanning the crowds milling around them for potential assassins. ” Sustenance not required. The very concept of consuming living organisms, while intriguing, remains distasteful.”

A quiet chirp seemed to agree with the towering ‘forged’s assessment. Palisade rotated his head left a full 90 degrees to peer at a small bird perched on his shoulder. The bird returned the warforged’s silent regard, tilting its head this way and that as it stared right into Palisade’s single eye from point-blank distance. Reflexively, it tried pecking at the red-glowing orb but recoiled when its beak struck hard crystal. Blinking its own tiny eyes, it seemed to decide the invitingly red sphere wasn’t a ripe fruit after all and went back to preening its feathers, suddenly oblivious to Palisade’s presence. The ‘forged considered the little creature for another moment before returning the courtesy. It seemed unlikely the bird presented a threat to Lady d’Deneith. Thus, elimination was not necessary at this point.

It briefly considered killing the winged little creature and offering it to Lady d’Deneith so she could sate her announced hunger, but it deemed it likely the young human had been exaggerating her state of famishment. Instead, Palisade turned his attention back to the mile-high massive towers around them, the passive village-square-sized platforms hanging from them, and to the disturbingly large and varied crowd of people all around them. It kept constantly shifting its position relative to the others, trying to keep itself between the V.I.P under its protection and the closest person it regarded as the most likely threat at a given moment. A hopeless task, it understood, but that was no reason not to attempt it. At least its old squad mate provided one trustworthy ally – Palisade kept itself to Bronwyn’s left, leaving the right flank for Squeak to see to.

It was concerned with the constant closeness of the half-elf to Lady d’Deneith, however – Bronwyn had for some reason objected to the strip search Palisade had requested the moment the Arleth joined their company. It had tried to explain at length how the female’s clothes offered ample opportunities for hiding small sharp implements, potentially coated with deadly or debilitating poison, but the young Lady had been adamant, and Palisade couldn’t quite bring itself to go against her wishes, not when it had no definite proof of the strange female’s imminent ill intentions.

That didn’t mean Palisade trusted Arleth as far as it could throw her – considerably less, in fact, given its approximation of the half-elven female’s weight. Limited as it was with its options, it resorted to spending every second in ten observing the female for signs of betrayal.

”Regretful admission. This one is not able to guarantee your safety in these surroundings, Lady d’Deneith,” Palisade rumbled. ”Returning to a more secure location is advised.”

Angie, you were a Steven Erikson fan, right? When tossing around the idea of a ‘forged that wanted to downplay its own individuality, I immediately thought of a particular ugly little familiar from the Book of the Fallen. Try to bear with me as I massacre Greyfrog’s “accent” ;^)

Oh yeah… Fabian, I assume Sharn still insists on peace-bonding weapons within city limits? I can see Palisade being a veritable walking ribbon with all the violent sharp things it carries around the place ;^)

Great start everyone!

Weapons/armor in Sharn is OK but some places will frown on them. Heck, some places will frown on warforged out in the open.

@Angie: I don't know how you will keep up with these personas but it's fun to read about them.

I'll look at crunch later tonight at home.

Get your initial RPing done because Eberron is all about 'pulpy action' and I'm going to throw some your way soon.

I intend to recap later tonight.

Male Warforged Artificer (Alchemist) 5. AC 21. HP 43/43. HD 5/5, 1st 4/4. 2nd 2/2.

must get post in before recap... Wow, you three set a high bar.

Squeak carefully walked off the platform - then half-jumped across as he felt the lift start to tip while he was on the edge. Internally he cringed, preparing to grab for handholds, but the delicately crafted platform held his weight.

Carefully he scanned the area, turning his head like a human. An internal inventory of potential traps, weapons and civilians filled his mind's eye. At the top of that list were three people, and these he processed first.

'd'Deneith, Bronwyn.' his thoughts here tracked through familiar grooves 'identity confirmed. Ms d'Deneith is the target. Her safety is our core mission objective. She is no Commander, as then we would have to obey her orders to leave. She is designated Objective.'

'Pallisade. Identity confirmed. Pallisade is a well trained fighter. We have worked together well. It will protect Objective, and can be trusted to guard the left flank. It is designated Squad.'

'Arleth. Identity partially confirmed. Arleth has been hired as a guide to the city and society. Arleth is known to be good at trickery. Arleth's motivations are unknown, but may be money. Arleth is to be treated with suspicion until further notice. Designated Mercenary.'

With an emotion best described as guilt Squeak continued to scan the area - not for targets or traps, but to look at the towers and architecture around him. His eyes changed from amber to gold as they soaked up the sights around them.

When the conversation suddenly paused he quickly replayed the last few seconds through his mind.

"It is inadvisable for me to dance with you Ms d'Deneith. Were I to step on your foot, surgery would be necessary. It would be possible to equip you with a steel-toed safety boot if you require dancing." Squeak's eyes glowed in pleasure as he decoded Objective's cryptic message and devised a safe alternative. They glowed even brighter at the mention of food.

"Further, I anticipated that rations would be required, and have brought a biscuit. This biscuit contains enough nutrients to stop you from fainting until we can find safe food." Squeak removed a small steel covered case, opening it to reveal six biscuits, each baked into the shape of a small vial so they would fit into the re-purposed ammunition container.

Ritually offering a biscuit to both Bronwyn and 'Arleth', he explained "I am able to eat" - eat was a strong claim considering the repurposed storage chamber connected to his jaw was originally a small safe - "and though I do not require food, eating is a human social bonding experience I am happy to participate in." He nodded happily "Thank you for your consideration mer...Arleth. Please have a biscuit."

'Note. Must be more careful about sharing designations with designatees.'

hope is okay, closest I could find to cake was travel biscuits. Have now finished background, which is in profile. If roll needed craft: cooking + tools + crafter's fortune: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 2 + 5 = 35

if Arleth takes a biscuit

'Excellent. She has taken a biscuit. We are now a class 3 acquaintance. Now I can ask a question to show interest, reveal a weakness to show trust, and then extend an offer of help. This will cause us to become friends.'

"Palisade and I disagree on whether you are designated male or female." a ghastly attempt at a self-deprecating chuckle reminiscent a millsaw hitting bronzewood emanated from the warforged. "I am afraid we have not seen very many non-humans. Would you liiiiiiiiiii..." a momentary abberation in his speech as he attempted to find something to offer "...ike me to cut your hair so it is more clearly male or female? This is no trouble and/or I would be happy to do it."

'Yes' Squeak thought to himself 'That essay by Still certainly does help with human social interactions. I almost pity Palisade his social ineptitude.'

It is very early in the morning, and I'm trying to stifle my giggles as I read Squeak's and Palisade's posts so I don't wake my kids up. Very much enjoying this so far.

It was with an equal mix of curiosity, shock, and delight that Arleth took the proffered biscuit from the giant named Squeak. She examined it closely and took a sniff - it looked and smelled good. Wondering if she was being tested, or perhaps pranked, she took an experimental nibble. A surprised smile lit her face. "This is delicious! Where did you get them? They're wonderful."

Hard to type - still laughing

Her hand paused halfway to her mouth, biscuit frozen in space, as she stared at the warforged in shock. Was she being insulted? Tested again? Traveller's Tricks! Did I make a mistake when I Changed? Trying to be subtle, she passed a hand across her crotch, and looked down to check her cleavage. All as it should be. Breathing a sigh of relief, Arleth decided to answer neutrally - if the large machine was insulting her, she could take it. It was part of her job to ignore that kind of thing.

Carefully keeping her tone as neutral as she could, Arleth said, "I am, uh, designated as female. Thank you for the offer, but a haircut isn't necessary."

Palisade considered Squeak's biscuit distribution. It was curious of its companion's efforts to imitate human behavior, something Palisade itself had never felt much interest in. Still, Squeak's habit was a constant source of stimulus - food for thought, if one will.

"Hesitant query. How does the ritual of consuming stirred unfertilized avian fetuses (eggs), bodily secretions of insects (honey) and crushed plant offsprings (flour) assist in forming social bonds between mammals?"

Arleth thought a moment. If she wasn't used to spicy food, then they'd need to start gently. Best stay away from the Adaran restaurants, and Sharn Fusion was right out. "Let's start with The Little Plate. It's Aundairian, and known for some gorgeous sauces. Their gold pheasant stuffed with sparkle mushrooms is worth the trip to Sharn alone." She began to move the group in the direction of the restaurant.

As they skirted a group of drunken university students apparently having a singing contest, Arleth puzzled over the question. It was impossible to read the 'forged's expression, because it didn't have one. She was starting to figure out that this one didn't have a sense of humour, and was possibly genuinely curious. "If you don't eat and can't taste, it's hard to explain. Mammals need to eat to survive, but the act of eating leaves us vulnerable. So I think eating with others is an act of trust, and therefore bonding. Also, food can be delicious, one of life's chief delights, and it is normal for us to want to share that delight with others." Looking at his enormous body, she asked, "If you do not eat, how are you sustained? You use energy to move, to speak, to fight. Where does that come from?"

Looking curiously at the pair of them, she asked, "Squeak, why can you eat, if Palisade does not? Can you taste? Do you have favourite foods?"

This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving so my posting will be quite spotty as family is visiting. Please bot Bronwyn as needed if you don't hear from me. Most likely I'll be in a turkey coma.

Male Warforged Artificer (Alchemist) 5. AC 21. HP 43/43. HD 5/5, 1st 4/4. 2nd 2/2.

Squeak bows slightly as he responds to Vi.
"Curious. Most female humans wear variant uniforms. Perhaps we should acquire you one when we go shopping?"
"I have learned to construct foodstuffs. The fundamental principles are very similar to alchemy, though I am careful to keep the equipment separate after... Very careful to keep them separate. I am happy you like them. Would you like another?"
"I would be very interested in your subjective opinion. While I have a sense analogous to taste, it is useless for the purposes of improving cooking. My favourite food is peanuts. I find the crunching soothing, and the crushed nut end product is a useful ingredient. Sadly eating is simply a social activity for me."
"Do you have much experience with eating? Having been raised in such a cosmopolitan city you must have much greater experiences than Ms D'Deneith."
weak tag Vi?
"Also, be aware that Ms d'Deneith is being humorous. After analysis, our orders include the preservation her mental well-being, so the plan to kidnap her and brick her up in a rural building where we could feed her food designed to extend her lifespan was not viable."

I cross-posted and did not include the above in the turn recap but I left space for it so I'll incorporate it next turn.

Action 2:

Bronwyn's mood began to wilt like the curls in her hair as the rain started pouring down. Of course water had its place and certain benefits but it wasn't the wizard's favourite thing considering it was the natural enemy of fire. She quickly pulled out her umbrella to keep the majority of the rain off of her but she was still getting soaked considering how heavy it was coming down. Even as it was, her feet were getting wet which was inconvenient to say the least. "Are we there yet? Arleth, maybe we should just find somewhere inside that's nearby. Being wet is not what I signed up for."

Smiling despite herself, Arleth said, "There are two problems with your observation, Squeak. First, I am not human. Second, clothing is culturally based, and varies drastically by region. Take care not to make assumptions about people based on another country's biases."

"Do you have much experience with eating? Having been raised in such a cosmopolitan city you must have much greater experiences than Ms D'Deneith."

Arleth stopped chewing, and inconspicuously dropped the last bite of her biscuit. She still wasn't sure that they weren't messing with her, but either way, she suddenly wasn't as hungry. Fortunately, the beginning of a downpour made her and Bronwyn run for cover, and she evaded the warforged's question.

Actions 2

Though Sharn's tropical climate meant that even a good downpour didn't cool the city much, getting caught in one was never pleasant. Arleth took them a slightly longer route, taking care to keep them under overhangs, bridges and platforms, and away from where the largest puddles tended to form.

"Almost there, ma'am, just on the other side of the plaza. The food is worth it, you'll see. And most finer restaurants have a drybox near the entrance." Seeing the girl's look of inquiry, she continued. "Do you not have these in Karrnath? Perhaps not necessary in a climate without daily monsoons. It's a box - well - more of a short passage. Some sort of magical being is harnessed to it. An elemental of some sort, or maybe an extra-planar creature. I can't remember. Anyway, you walk through and they dry you off. Poof, almost literally, then good as new."

Action 3

Arleth stopped mid-stride, and held an arm out, which Bronwyn promptly bumped into. Drawing the dagger from her belt, she kept it low and said softly, "Trouble ahead. Ma'am, stay put. Squeak, Palisade, can you see anything?" She pointed to where the body lay, but said nothing further yet.

Action 1
"Those are both valid points. I will remember them."

Action 2.
Squeak, all too aware of the consequences should he slip on the wet walkways, walked carefully. "Not too fast please, ladies. I build up momentum quickly, and shed it slowly. I have no desire to skid off the edge."

Action 3.
Squeak unlimbered his weapon, moving into guard position. "Rep: Neg Sight." he affirmed, falling into the economical battle cant employed by Warforged during the war. "Req: Sitch? Q: hold?"
Reporting: negative sight to hostiles. Requesting: situation report. Query: Should I hold - with an undertone of waiting for orders. Tried to work Pallisade's way of talking into it.

Busy now, will post later, but was intrigued... with their common history in the same military unit, wouldn't be far-fetched for them to know the same military shorthand for relaying relevant date in minimum time. And it would no doubt sound pretty much glibberish if one wasn't familiar with it ;^)

others.” Looking at his enormous body, she asked, “If you do not eat, how are you sustained? You use energy to move, to speak, to fight. Where does that come from?”

Palisade seemed to consider the question at length. The silence stretched, as it seemed it had decided to ignore the question. Then the ‘forged turned its softly glowing eye briefly towards the half-elf. ”Answer. Unknown. Creation process classified secret by House d’Cannith. Lofty assumption. The flames of the creation forges that birthed us sustain us still.”

Squeak wrote:

Palisade put one hand on the hilt of its sword, its lone eye scanning the darkness around them – the heavy rain seemed to swallow the light from the lanterns, causing them to highlight the darkness rather than banish it. If there was someone lurking in out there, Palisade could not tell. There was always a possibility that the female was imagining things, but with Lady d’Deneith’s life on the line, one had to err on the side of caution.

”Protection priority,” Palisade rumbled, moving closer so its broad back could serve Bronwyn as shield in case an enemy archer was even now aiming at them. ”Current position indefensible. Suggest seeking cover.”

The image of Strax from Doctor Who suddenly popped into mind. ;^) “Sir! I suggest a full-frontal assault with automated laser monkeys, scalpel mines and acid!”

The mage's dour mood perked somewhat at the mention of the drybox. It gave her hope that she wouldn't be soaked while they ate and it was fascinating from a magical standpoint. "We have something similar back home but because we're more prone to snow than rain, ours don't use air but heat. It doesn't surprise me that Sharn has harnessed the power of air elementals for such a use considering where they're situated."

Action 3:

Bronwyn thought the others were overreacting. However, she knew from their journey to Sharn that there was no reasoning with either Palisade or Squeak if they perceived the slightest hint of danger. She watched and waited, soggy boot tapping on the ground. "How much longer do we all stare into the shadows before we move on? I'm starting to actually get hungry now."

Since Arleth pointed out the body, you all get another perception check DC 12 to see it and react if desired.

Palisade: I strongly advise scissor grenades, limbo vapour and triple blast brain-splitters. Bronwyn: Whatever for? Palisade: Just generally.

Food for thought...

So we have established that Kravos d'Deneith (Bronwyn's father) has asked/ordered our two warforged to 'protect' his daughter.

What do the warforged think about this? Is this another task for them? Are they slaves/property? Are they under contract? Are they getting paid? Do they do out of loyalty?

What about Bronwyn? Does she feel like she can order the warforged around? Does she get any privacy? What would happen if a oily-looking shifter 'makes a move' on Bronwyn?

And why does Li have so many personas? Is she trying them out? Is it just part of her con activities? Why change so much, even changes during the same day?

You may just rant here or rant with internal thought for the game proper.

Game on!

Another Dr Who fan! Lovely. So which of the 12 types are you? ;^)

The last mission from its last owner, and since Palisade considers itself property (rather like a self-propelled greatsword), those orders are adamant. It *might* have feelings about the situation, but it doesn't yet realize it... plenty of room for character development there. Since Bronwyn is Kravos's daughter, Palisade would have elevated her to a quasi-owner status by now, most likely, as not belonging to anyone is a disturbing thought.

Palisade ignored Lady d'Deneith's complaint for the moment, focusing on where the half-elven female was pointing. A moment later it had to admit it could not decide if it did indeed see a darker shadow among the darkness or whether it assumed there was one to see and its mind was filling in the blanks.

"Query. Arleth Fadi. Describe the exact nature of the threat," it asked, while considering the Lady d'Deneith's suggestion anew. Hunger. Restaurant. Many people present. The location being their choice, so chances for an ambush were limited, considering the total number of establishments to choose from. Presence of noncombatants likely to limit the risk of open enemy assault, and if assault happened regardless, the noncombatants would provide living shields for Lady d'Deneith.

'Note: suggestion has unforeseen merit. As expected of the progeny of owner-commander.'

Action 2

Suddenly got the urge to do this... let's see... Memphis, Upper... so we might very well have passes Seventh Tower district...

The rain fell like a heavy curtain, limiting visibility but also driving a lot of the casual bystanders to seek shelter. A slight net profit in Palisade's mind. The weather did not bother the bulky 'forged - it had fared heavier storms, and at least this time it wasn't hiding int he trenched with its squad, and there were no Lyrandar Stormships floating above, hidden amidst the clouds except for the glowing bands of the ships' elemental rings, competing with lightning for brilliance. And there were no gunners ready to rain fire and explosive death on top of them.

It swept its gaze up and down the streets, trying to decide if people watching the street from within the many expensive-looking shops were simply keeping themselves dry or shopkeepers hoping for a customer he or she might be able to persuade to part with some Galifars before leaving. Or assassins waiting for spring their ambush. Suddenly, the 'forged stopped cold, turned to face a shop they had just passed.

'Window on Yesterday,' Palisade thought with deep reverence, reading the aged sign handing over the door. It hesitated for a moment, then fell down on its knees before the storefront and bowed its head down in a gesture of utter respect. It's single eye seemed to gleam more brightly as it spied the a short shape beyond the window.

It maintained its position for exactly one minute, before suddenly rising back to its feet, turning around the joining its perplexed temporary squad-mates.

"Explanation. The Window on Yesterday. Proprietor, one Kidro Osanak. Goddess-creator once worked in this establishment to fund her schooling. She remembered the venerable gnome owner fondly and told many stories of her daily adventures cataloguing his latest purchases in the storerooms. Proud statement. The place is holy. Veneration is expected. Observation. Veneration now completed. Ready to resume the mission."

Arleth cocked her head, listening. Nothing. Slowly lowering her arm she said, "I'm not sure. I think there's somebody lying in the street up ahead. And another person....jumped off, I think." Looking around for danger, she saw none. I assume Part of her wanted to just turn and walk away. But if somebody needed help...

Making up her mind, she said, "I'm going to check it out." She began to move towards the person lying on the bridge.

Arleth stood staring for a moment. "Goddess-creator? I thought you were built by people? Wizards or something?" Her brain just could not compute what had just happened. She wondered if the machine was broken or malfunctioning.

I know the 'forged aren't machines, but Vi doesn't really get the difference.

re: Doctor Who - Must admit I only started with the reboot. My favourite is, of course, David 10nent.
