Nathan:

They were not, until Sora monkeyed around up there. They do not know you are there. No One Looks Up only applies to you, not her.

That said there is nothing on the roof between you and the orcs, with your weird ability to walk on the ceiling you should be bale to just walk out there. It is about 10 feet from the floor to the ceiling inside the room, not sure if you can make that high of a jump or not.

Reno catches on to the deception that Sora's trying on the whipmaster and tries to help, himself. He stands in the doorway leading into the room that the orcs are standing in, and points off behind him.

"It was a slave uprising, sir!" he says to the large orc, trying to sound like he used to when he worked as Drazhu's lackey. "A few of the stronger ones rose up against the goblin guards - but I took up arms against them! Can we help you get the rest of them and be rewarded?" he brandishes his hammer and looks eagerly at the big orc.

ok there are so many posts we are confused. Reno Sora and Nathan are in the whipmaster room. Nathan has not been seen due to No One Looks Up, but since that only applies to him I have said that Sora was seen. Sora and Reno are blabbing about whatever as a distraction.

Meanwhile Nox is off in the killing pit room, while our other heroes are undecided at the moment.

Our fire lady has just arrived on the other end of the whipmaster room.

In that room there are 3 orcs and the whipmaster

Everyone on the same page?

Oh, poor Reno, you're doing your best. But you aren't helping here. She flies down and clamps her hands down on his shoulders. "Reno! Where the hell were you? Is THAT what happened? How did they make that glow?" She looks back at the Whipmaster. "Could I help as well? I don't want any trouble because of the rest of them!"

It's not that you're the best to have, just that I was pretty sure Mini said you were holding it. Which, as it turns out as I look, isn't the case.

If we're going by optimising the team, you ought to have grabbed the chain, and I'd have that stick. That would bring us both to a +1 on Hack and Slash.

Edit: If Reno had Wayfarer, I had the pointed stick, and you had the chain, Reno could H&S at +2 and use his shield (though I don't think we have stats for Wayfarer other than 1 load), and we'd H&S at +1 with our respective weapons. Sound fine?

Amaranth:

Recently there was an earthquake, this caused cracks in the floor, and the whipmaster and his guards to be on high alert. Now some of the slaves, some that you recognize have entered the room and are talking to the master, who is apparently interested a beat down. Two of the orcs are hiding nets behind their backs

Male(?) I am not sure Star Mage 1 | HP 19/19 | d6 | AR 0 | LOAD 3/7

I would rather have my knife and the spikes. I am more about harassing foes from a distance and shenanigans with altering space. The main reason that I am fine with being alone right now is because of my earlier bargain.

M Wall-walker L:1.06 | d8 | A:1* | HP:6/16 | STR:+2 ~ DEX:+1 ~ CHA:+1 ~ WIS:0 ~ INT:0 ~ CON:-1

What are they doing? They're literally ruining everything. They really never should have followed me. Now we can't do this the tidy way. I could have delivered these guys to them one at a time, dragged them into a kill box. They should have known what I was doing, they're the smart ones. There's no way this is my fault.

Nathan maneuvers over the Whipmaster and drops down, knife in hand, hoping to use the Whipmaster's body to break his fall.

Death From Above: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10

I would like "No one notices you dropping in, and your target doesn't make a sound." but if that 7 gets me spotted somehow, I'd gladly "Kidnap them - you retreat to somewhere nearby, taking them with you" and drag him into the whip-master's chamber. If there's a door, he'll try to close it.

Fair enough then. Add the spikes to your profile if you like, they should be in my gear. I do have to admit what weapon you have might not make so drastic a difference as it would to anyone else though with regard to ranges. Your portals can take your attacks out to the same range you or anyone else could reach with the spikes. As long as your weapon had more range than theirs you could go nuts with that.

Male(?) I am not sure Star Mage 1 | HP 19/19 | d6 | AR 0 | LOAD 3/7

Actually, they can attack me back thru my portals. There is an advanced move that grants me armor if they do.

Female Skyfolk Sky Dancer | Lvl 3 | XP 3 | HP: 18/18 | Armour - 2, not that you can reach me. | Damage 1d8 | STR 0 | DEX 2 | CON 0 | INT 1 | WIS 0 | CHA 2

I know. You make it a little harder given the fact you don't put the info for your moves on your profile, but I noticed. I was just saying that didn't matter as much as long as your weapon had a greater range than theirs, since you could probably adjust portal placement to abuse that - tell me if I'm wrong. The chain does reach further than your knife would.

Reno and Sora talk over each other a bit, and while they do not succeed in pulling them out of the room, they do manage to completely distract everyone from Nathan.

Nathan creeps across the ceiling, spider like, and use as he is about to drop down he scrapes his blade on the ceiling causing everyone to look up. He drops down quickly plunging his knife into the whip master, though it is slowed by the armor, and shoves him into the smaller room next door and chases into it. The whip master stumbles and turns as Nathan closes the door, though it does not latch.

The whip master stands all the way across the room reach and he snaps the whip at Nathan it wraps around his neck and begins to cut off his air. if you don't avoid take d8 damage ignores armor

One of two remaining orcs in the room throws his net onto Reno, while another throws his onto Sora. The third moves up and attacks Sora, aiming for the still bloody leg, slamming its club against her avoid the nets or take -1 ongoing on anything requiring a Dex or Str check and Sora avoid the attack or take d6 damage

What do you do?

Nox stands in the quiet, and hears...nothing. There is absolutely no sound in this room at all. No movement either.

of course those of you who have not picked a room are welcome to enter

That's a whole lot of bad stuff for a 7-9. Admittedly, that's what it'll take to have a chance putting down Nathan. I mean, he's dead as soon as he gets a 6, but until then...

Mirror's Edge: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4) + 2 = 11
Nathan is inside the man's carefully calculated reach before the whip cracks, knife protecting his exposed neck. His feet and free hand pull at the lavishly decorated wall as he corkscrews through the room, gaining speed with each powerful step.
"Avoid or knock aside an enemy attack and keep moving", and either "leap around, over, or through an obstacle or enemy in your path", or "get up somewhere out of reach or out of sight" depending on if you need me to spend a hold to get close and/or above him. He'll lose them in a sec anyway.

Death from Above: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12
Stabbity: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Nathan lifts the whipmaster from the floor as his knife connects with thick armor, and drives the sadist down back into his bed, pinning him down with his knees. "When I get you, you stay got!" Nathan pulls the bits of rope from his belt with his free hand. "Are you gonna make this a fight?"

I'll bet there's nothing but arid desert outside. Not a wall or tree for miles. We'll never see another ceiling again.

Things worked out on some level. Nathan managed to get the Whipmaster out of the area, which is just what she needed. On the other hand they were being attacked by the other orcs, which is decidedly not what she needed. No way. Nooo way.

Sora attempts to evade the net, but her reaction is delayed enough to be caught anyway, leaving her entangled by it.

No effect to "Kidnap them - you retreat to somewhere nearby, taking them with you"? Not even for narrative fluff? I'm sorry I didn't reference the line directly, but with that 12, I would get two actions.

Wherever they are, Nathan, knife in teeth, uses his long limbs, freedom of movement, and strength (and the fact that he's well inside the range of any described weapons) to grapple the whipmaster into submission and begin tying him down.

yea...im not as versed as mooshy, if you don't reference it, Im probably not going to get it Nathan. I have never DM'd this system before, pretty much exclusively pathfinder so it will take some time for me to get used to it.

In any event you should make another roll if you are going to try to grapple the fella, im reading that as using STR to bat aside any attack that comes your way, as you don't know but I do, that his particular whip has a range of hand, close and reach.

Narrate our actions to ridiculous levels. Got it.

But seriously, even if it's just ooc text, I agree with Reno. We should really make explicitly clear what we're doing here, until GM-Thumpy gets the hang of things at least. I hope you don't mind if we chime in from time to time...like, for example, how you can use a whip practically in a whip-y fashion when the target is just about within arm's reach. As far as I recall, that's what hand is as ranges go. It might be worth leaving this here for reference. Just because you can hit something further away doesn't necessarily mean it's practical when closer than that. It really wants a bit of common sense.

Ahhh, magic. "Suddenly, as you get close, the whip's tail starts coming for you of its own accord!" Bypasses so many logical issues as long as you have a proper description.

What would the complication be, may I ask, if Amaranth *doesn't* consider that an order? As I read the move she was using, she still gets to do something from the list, but you get to throw a spanner in the works. It's not just as if they didn't use it.

Even if that just means acknowledging what they did and replacing the issue with something worse.

Edit: Yep, something worse. Dammit.

I may still be at risk for repercussions from the living whip with a hack and slash, but it would be fairly easy to find a joint in his armor, or stab him in his neck from up close if he can't move.

Thank you sir may I have another: 1d8 ⇒ 4
12 HP as of this post.

Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

You have grappled him. And closed the distance. You closed to grapple range and defied the danger of closing that gap. Then you initiated a grapple with him. You succeeded but didn't get a 10 so you took damage. Had you rolled 2 7-9's you would have been hit twice
