Alaric and Kyrademon:
... Well in that case...

After a few hours of wandering through the palace. Mel tentatively touches Gansukh's shoulder. |This place is... amazing.| A pause, |But I'm a getting hungry.| She smiles, |Can you lead me back to...| She looks around, mostly lost, |... to where Alaric is?|

She smiles, |And after, maybe some of the places you thought might work for our shopping, please?|

|At once,| Gansukh says, bowing. And leads onwards towards lunch and shopping.

Mel is quite happy to provide background singing for Ameiko. She watches Zaiobe's play with attentive interest. And listens attentively to whichever story Kalimac chooses to tell.

Just so that it is clear, at this point I am waiting for either the story Lio suggested to be adopted as the one being used, or for an alternative to be proposed and adopted if it is not. Once a majority of the party has weighed in on the issue, I will move forward.

Now, a confirmation. I want to make 100% sure that my armor has been ordered. I thought it was confirmed before, but it wasn't. So I need to be crystal clear.

Alaric:
Your armor has been ordered. I am sorry for the confusion. I was just trying to keep the timeline straight, as I was assuming that your character would not wish to wait until after a morning of shopping to save someone from being tortured. etc.

GM:
Ah. Was not sure when the timeline was of concern and when it wasn't.

Goblin probably not available (they are relatively unknown in Tian Xia), although hobgoblin would be (they are common). Call it a silver piece for a nice one, double the price for every jump up in quality from "nice".

Most of the rather vague questions you ask receive unhelpful answers. But after a few hours of asking, you do learn the following:

An ancient place called the Forest of Spirits lies between Hongal and Minkai. The forest is known to be haunted, so the road to Minkai, called the Spirit Road, skirts the forest to the south and west. Loyal samurai of Minkai's Jade Regent patrol the Spirit Road in great numbers to keep it open and safe.

I would prefer that you did, although you can specifically ask an NPC to do so instead if you would prefer. Jorun is still quite shy, so may not be the best choice for such a task, however, if you wish to ask and NPC to do it.

At some point on the first morning, Lio and Shae look for each of you. If and when they find you, you will be asked, in halfling, not to send your servants away and to check if any have been switched out since yesterday because if that is the case, they are being punished for displeasing you. If you have new servants, Lio suggests you request the previous servants as well as your current ones, so that they cease being punished and so that your new servants aren't punished as well.

Gozran 29 - FEAST OF THE ANCIENTS

Ameiko begins singing a haunting melody to set the tone for the Tale of the Red King's Son.

GM Only:
Shalelu, Kelda, Uksahkka: 1d20 ⇒ 51d20 ⇒ 141d20 ⇒ 8

Ameiko's Perform (Sing) Check DC 30: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

Hrunndalf's roll to assist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Hrunndalf adds +2 to the roll, as do Melinda, Liothonae, Myriana, and Kelda, for a total of 46.

The counterpoint harmony added by the others enhances the effect. The singing soon draws the entire room into the strange world of the ancient tale. 300 guests fall silent.

Gozran 29 - FEAST OF THE ANCIENTS

And then Kalimac begins telling the ancient Varisian tale:

|The son of the Red King sought to escape from death. He journeyed for eight years and came to the queen of all the birds that fly ...|

GM Only:
Sandru, Reta, Ulf: 1d20 ⇒ 81d20 ⇒ 131d20 ⇒ 15

Kalimac's Peform (Oratory) Check DC 25: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Reta, Ulf, and Rhost each add +2 to the roll, for a total of 25.

He is perhaps not used to performing before so many, but his practiced voice, aided by the sound effects provided by his fellows, soon come together to weave a compelling tale.

Gozran 29 - FEAST OF THE ANCIENTS

Zaiobe begins passing the puppets she has selected before the hooded lantern, projecting the tale onto the wall as it is told.

GM Only:
Spivey, Buttersnips, Jorun: 1d20 ⇒ 151d20 ⇒ 31d20 ⇒ 15

Zaiobe's Perform (Act) Check, DC 35: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32

Spivey and Jorun each add +2 to the roll for a total of 36.

Zaiobe's extensive theatrical training, along with the deft work of the others manipulating secondary puppets, create the story like a living shadowy world projected cast upon wall, even with the unfamiliar tools they are using.

... I seriously did not expect you all to do this well on all three of these tasks. Nice.

Gozran 29 - FEAST OF THE ANCIENTS

There are tears in the Prince's eyes by the time the story is completed. He applauds for a solid five minutes, as do all 300 of the other guests present, not stopping until the Prince does.

"That was lovely, simply lovely," the Prince finally says, overcome. "The simple elegance of the story, the surpassing loveliness of the music of far away - you have a particularly lovely voice, I could not help but notice," he adds to Myriana. "You show how decrepit and moribund the arts are in this land," he continues, shaking his head sadly.

He snaps his fingers, and an attendant brings him a finely carved and decorated masterwork morin khuur.

"This is one of my own instruments. I insist you take it," he says, as his attendant brings you the traditional horsehead fiddle of the Hongali people. "I am certain that you could make better use of it than I ever could."

At a quick, rough estimate, it appears to be worth somewhere between 500 and 1,000 pieces of gold.
