As Doran pulls the book, it flashes brightly, and he collapses.
Doran:
You see Ulric, a very old man, at his desk, his movements fast, as if time had sped up. A woman enters the room, a fast paced conversation takes place, she leaves. Ulric sits down, then hunches over, turns towards the lever, fist clenched over his heart. He collapses and doesn't move. Quickly, he begins to decay, then turns to dust. Nothing happens for sometime, then part of the ceiling collapses, striking the lever, dust blows around from time to time, then you and your companions enter.
Doran looks up from the ground and blinks. "...huh." He rubs his eyes. "I saw an old fellow speak with a woman, die and decay into dust. And... something about a lever." He lies there for a moment, pondering, then quickly gets up and starts eagerly searching through the bookcase. "Okay, everyone keep an eye out for books marked with hedonistic, gluttonous, secret treasure location or dragon!"
At the end of the chain is a golden Hydra head, roughly the size of the heads on Nebari's shield, with a tiny ruby inset for the eye. It gleamed in the soft light.
GM Scary, does Tiriael recognize the amulet at all?
"He's probably treasure hunting..." Alaeron will get up from the seat and go lean against the wall next to Terra with Nemesis still in hand. The cat is purring rather loudly as he tends to keep his mouth open while purring.
"Well, we were sent for an amulet and we have found an amulet. It's got the same hydra motif as the shield." Piers said looking to the others. "I think we have what we're looking for."
"I cannot be completely certain of that, but I am inclined to agree" - Tiriael nods.
Looking around the room, she continues - "We should search this place carefully - on the one hand, there is a vast wealth of information on this place, and on the other we have already come across magical items that may be helpful to us"
Upon kicking the side as hard as he could, Doran caused the chest lid to pop open. As soon as it did, there came a hissing sound that didn't quite sound natural. Before anyone could peer inside the chest, a metallic figure rose up from the chest. It was clad in, what looked like, plate mail, but various gears were visible through the gaps. In the right hand was a halberd that almost gleamed in the light from outside. This imposing figure stood erect at attention, completely motionless.
Alaeron falls backwards as the figure emerges from chest. He grabs out his sword before realizing that it sits motionless. He looks at the thing with interest.
"It almost looks like the inside of a clock..." Pointing at the gears.
The creature is known as a Clockwork Soldier. A wind-up construct that fights to the death for it's master. It can last for days after being wound-up. Fairly armored and can withstand most weapons not made of adamantine. One of their main flaws is they are inadequately shielded against Electricity. One last point you remember, is that they stay on standby for who knows how long.
Doran blinks in surprise and shifts nervously in the creature's grip. "Okay... Okay." he tilts his head back. "As long as its holding me it's not fighting you- could ya help me out of this? Calm please! And someone grab that sword!" He looks back. "Robbie, sleep!"
"Robbie!" Piers called out before rattling off several words in the Ancient Script. He too drew his blade but did not bring it to bear upon the device just yet.
At first, there appears to be no response. Then once you put on the amulet, Robbie's head turns to you and locks it gaze upon you. But the construct does not release Doran, as a matter of fact, it's 'eyes' start glowing red.

I don't have the amulet I was telling whoever did to do that.
