Background:
He sat there staring at the backpack laying on his table, he didn’t know how long he had been in the bar or how many drinks he had taken but he was unfortunately still sober. It had been quite a long time since he had acted like this, but he couldn’t think of anything else to ease his pain. The somber man quietly accepted another drink as he recalled the days events that had led to his miserable state.
The day had started out so normal for him a simple breakfast with his wife and daughter before his daily routine. He worked at a temple and although he was no priest his healing abilities and knowledge were welcomed. A few hours tending to patients before heading out for lunch. It was there that he overheard some patrons discussing some quest and a crazy scheme to be rid of the tower. The man thought is was a crazy idea and probably just another rumor much like all of the theories about the tower that had sprung up over the years.
It wasn’t until he got home that he realized that he should have been worried. He wasn’t greeted by his family like all the other times he returned home. Instead he found his house in shambles and his wife and daughter missing. He spent hours looking for them asking all around town but he found no leads to follow so he returned home hoping to find some clues.
“Hello Nebari. It’s been such a long time, it’s good to see you again.” came a voice from somewhere in the home. The now named Nebari turned to find a man dressed in black bearing a symbol of a tower standing in front of a pale moon.
”You!” Nebari shouted.”You took my family? Why? How did you find me?” He asked His grief quickly replaced with rage.
”Not me Nebari, but us. We didn’t find you so much as we never lost you to begin with.” The man answered. ”Why you ask. Well now you owe us Nebari. We gave you life and a purpose and although you were a failure we allowed you to leave, but only if you repaid your debt when we asked. It’s time Nebari.”
”Where is my family?”
”Safe. Do as we ask and no harm shall come to them. They are our insurance.” the man in black responded.
”What in the nine hells could you possibly want from me?” Nebari asked.
”You’ve heard about it haven’t you? This quest to end the tower. We want you to join, find these amulets then bring them to us.” The man answered. Nebari’s confused expression prompted the man to continue. ”We have our own plans for the tower Nebari you know that, and though I don’t think that even the world eater could harm it we don’t want to take that chance. Do this and your family will be returned to you.”
The man pointed to a backpack sitting against the wall. ”We provided you with some supplies, I know it’s been awhile having retired and all so we took the liberty. There is a scroll inside with instructions once you found the amulet. Stay safe old friend.” With that the man faded from view .Leaving a stunned Nebari alone in an empty house with a dozen more unanswered questions.
Memories came back to him as Nebari recalled his time in the cult he was born into. The drugs, rituals and experiments designed to force visions into his psyche, visions that still gave him nightmares. He was certain that no good would come from the tower but neither would releasing such a creature as the tarasque, but the only thing he had left was his family and he would do anything for them. So he grabbed the pack and headed for the bar where he had first learned of the quest to track down the source.
Appearance:
Nebari has fiery red hair and a pair of silver eyes. He has a slim build and stands at around 5'8.
