Wayreth |
Wayreth sighs and sneaks down the Northern passage, wondering why for just the briefest moment thoughts of rainbows and ponies filled his head.
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis watches Wayreth sneak forwards and cleans the end of the blade of both the remains of the rats and from searching their nest. He is giving Daylight a quick check over for bites when he hears the quiet plop of waters surface being broken and shivers inside his armor as he gets goosebumps for some reason.
GM Engleaktig |
Room B4: A few torches wedged into niches in this cave's rocky walls burn fitfully. This area is obviously used for labor-intensive tasks such as making rope from vines, drying meat, and tanning hides, but the working conditions are squalid at best.
1d20 ⇒ 1, 1d20 ⇒ 4, 1d20 ⇒ 6, 1d20 ⇒ 8
There are four kobolds here. They do not notice Wayreth. It looks like they're holding three humans prisoner here. They are all shackled via chains and manacles driven into the rock with iron spikes. It looks like the humans are being forced to build... something...
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril strides apprehensively into the room, concerned about the safety of the prisoners should things go south.
"We wish to parlay with your leader!" he says. "There need not be any bloodshed!"

Ethendril steps forward, hoping to settle things peaceably, but is hit by two sling stones for 4 HP of damage!
Harlis is up!
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur tries to move into position for a clear shot and then fires her musket at the shortest kobold.
musket point-blank touch attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Sorry, the map isn't loading on my mobile so I can't be more specific.
Edit:
crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
additional crit damage: 3d12 ⇒ (6, 12, 4) = 22
Total possible damage = 35.
Should have saved that for a boss fight.
Harlis Underbough |
Seeing the kobolds aren't taking to melee weapons yet Harlis directs Daylight around behind them, interposing himself between the prisoners and retribution. Holding his blade before him he forcefully proclaims "You are trapped, throw down your weapons!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril nods. "A wise choice. Lay down your weapons and we will spare your lives."
After the kobolds have surrendered, the paladin removes a length of rope from his pack and proceeds to tie the kobolds.
He then moves to ensure the prisoners are safe.
"Are you alright?" he asks them. "What are they having you build here?"
GM Engleaktig |
The slaves are all shackled via chains and manacles driven into the rock with iron spikes—one of the kobolds carries the key. Of the three slaves, Bophre Malak has been here the longest. She's a farmhand from the Malak dairy in Belhaim who went out for a walk one day a few months ago, only to be captured by the kobolds. Carlo and Sela Bellathi are a married couple, peddlers of religious charms. They were caught 2 months ago while traveling east on the Verduran Highway, just having plied their wares in Belhaim. Needless to say, all three welcome rescue. Though brutalized, they've been kept relatively healthy—the kobolds prefer productive slaves. They spend most of their time in this cave, and have never been beyond. What they make seems to change every day. Sometimes it's a statue/effigy in the likeness of a dragon. Sometimes its a mural, sometimes it's other things.
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis asks them further of things about the kobolds while tending their wounds and seeing they have food. "Do you know of their tribe and its leaders or factions? We seek to find why they are now intruding upon more civilized lands." Looking at the artwork around them. "Also of the being they call their god..?"
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril considers the situation of both the human slaves and the kobolds they have taken captive.
"I do not think it would be safe for you to go back to town on your own," Ethendril tells the townspeople. "There are kobolds watching all their lands, and I fear that once we let you go, they would fall upon you. Perhaps you should wait in this room until we can escort you back."
Looking at the now tied-up kobolds, he says "Perhaps you could also help ensure that these three do not escape their bonds. We need to continue our explorations...could you watch these three in this room?"
GM Engleaktig |
To the east! (Map updated)
Room B5: Straw is strewn across the floor of this large cave. The ceiling vaults to a height of twelve feet. Three ledges, eight feet off the ground, look out over the main cavern. A five-foot-wide, twenty-foot-deep trench runs north to south through the western half of the cavern, with just one five-foot wide bridge of natural stone allowing passage from one side to the other.
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril inches forward until he has a better look at the room. Given the kobolds' propensity for traps, the paladin proceeded with caution.
"What do you think, Wayreth?" he whispered. "Does it look safe to enter?"
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Once he looks around, particularly in the trenches and at the 5' section of ground between the trenches, the paladin enters the room.
GM Engleaktig |
I'm just going to have the enemy all go together and you guys all go together. Otherwise, there's too much to track.
When Ethendril steps onto the bridge, 8 kobolds pop out of hiding, and he takes 6 HP of damage:
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19, Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18, Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6, Miss!

Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12, Miss!
The party is up!
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Not one to shrink from combat even when seriously wounded, Ethendril charges the nearest kobolds.
"Lay down your weapons and we will spare your lives!" he yells to them.
greatsword atk, charge, PA: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 192d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 3) + 9 = 14
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis directs Daylight around the trench carefully while already muttering a spell. He pauses between Ethendril and the group on the far side of the room giving cover to his companion with himself and his steed. The spell finishes as he reaches the point and with a prayer to Iomedae to aid her warriors in need he taps Ethendril on the shoulder.
Converting bless to cure light wounds
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
But Iomedae seems busy helping people with a bigger badder evil.
Wayreth |
Ok, so the important question is...have they seen me?
If they Kobolds have not noticed Wayreth yet, he moves closer to within 30ft of the nearest kobold. If not he stands where he is. Either way, he fires a bolt at the nearest Kobold not in melee.
attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
damage roll: 1d8 ⇒ 5
sneak attack?: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur advances and fires at one of the orange kobolds.
Point-blank single barrel touch attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
GM Engleaktig |
Ehtendril, Wayreth, and Hostpur put down three of the kobolds.
Harlis heals the paladin a bit.
Agnes delays.
The remaining kobolds attack:
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17, Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17, Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The paladin is down to 4 HP. The party is up! (Agnes can post two actions, if she so chooses.)
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Wow...that kobold is GONE! :p
Lol, wow, I just saw that. apparently I typed 1d12 = 1 instead of 1d12 + 1 and it rolled a 1d121! Corrected it. Only 2 points, GM, so not sure if that still takes one down, but I'll fire again either at the same one or the guy next to him if he really is down.
Hotspur shoots again...
musket attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril, despite his wounds continues to try to cleave into the kobolds with his greatsword.
greatsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 102d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 6 = 11
climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8 do I need to climb up on the ledge? If so, here's a roll...
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis rode around the trenchs up next to Ethendril and behind him. He and Daylight stopping to interpose themselves between Ethendril and the yellow kobold group so that he would take fire from them instead. If they were shooting at Ethendril it would be at -4 attack or giving Ethendril effectively +4 AC, 21. Of course if Ethendril still that is another penalty again.
Harlis Underbough |
Sorry, wasn't trying to be argumentative, more spreading damage around and loading slings is a move.
Harlis calls upon Iomedae's light once more to aid her champion. "May the blessings of Iomedae let you battle onwards Ethendril." Before directing Daylight over to the kobold who scampered across the middle of the room.
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Agnes-Emberkin |
Sorry, I didn't get home until tonight.
Agnes will double move for turn one to get into the area with the kobolds, and then she'll magic missile one of the kobolds on her end of the cave.
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Wayreth |
Oops, I didn't realise we were up again.
Wayreth reloads his crossbow and fires at the nearest kobold not in melee and that he has a clear shot at.
attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
damage roll: 1d8 ⇒ 4
GM Engleaktig |
Agnes delivers a serious hurt to one of the kobolds. Wayreth misses with his attack.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The kobolds continue to pepper the brawny paladin, to no effect.
The party is up!
Harlis Underbough |
Harlis nudges Daylight the last step to follow the kobold that just danced back to sling at Ethendril and lashes out with his blade. "Lay down your arms, or we shall finish you all. He says with conviction, but not anger.
Longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Ride: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Following Harlis' wide swing and orders Daylight follows up with a pair of lashes from his hooves.
Hoof: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Hoof: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Hoof Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Ethendril h'Caramore |
Ethendril's greatsword hits the side of the passage as he swings in the tight quarters.
greatsword atk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 62d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
Hotspur the Unsettled |
Hotspur reloads (move action) and fires...
musket touch attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The Gunslinger realizes she must have accidentally shot the kobold with a paintball.
Wayreth |
Nothing really interesting for me to do here.
Wayreth reloads his crossbow and fires at the kobold at the far end not engaged in melee.
attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
damage roll: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Ooo...that might be a kobold kill!
