The Commander takes a step down the ladder. (5' step, bringing him partly down into the room. He is now adjacent to both Edmin and Morsum.) He looks Edmin in the eye.

"You are lost. Fallen. Evil." He raises his blade. "Justice, then." His sword and armor suddenly blaze with white and gold light. His grandfather's longsword shimmers in a silver arc... 1d20 ⇒ 15

CRASH And now it is Sir Edmin's turn to stagger. The pain of the blade is nothing compared to the searing agony of the hateful light. 1d8 + 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (8) + (3) + 21 = 32

The Commander moves forward, pressing his attack. 1d20 ⇒ 17

CRASH Sir Edmin takes another 1d8 + 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (4) + (1) + 21 = 26 damage.

I believe that puts Edmin at -3, dropping but not killing him.

With the commander in clear view, and now that Cуровую gets a good look at this, does she get a Spellcraft or Knowledge Arcane?

Spellcraft 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24 Knowledge Arcane +10 only

Grumblejack rushes up the ladder. There's no way to get past the Commander without eating an AoO, so he's going to do that. He's thinking that if he can get to the top, he'll be able to flank (and gain the benefit of the high ground. 1d20 ⇒ 10 climb check to move up the ladder quickly; that works.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Commander's AoO: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Mitra has failed you!

Well the bastard also dropped poor Edmin a round earlier than I expected but who knew his AVERAGE damage was 29 points per hit!

A Nat 1 is still a Nat 1, Xen BREAK OUT THE GOOD WINE!

Holy smokes! Go Grumblejack! Flanking the Commander is now possible!

Okay, that ends Round 3. Sir Edmin has fallen unconscious at the bottom of the ladder. Morsum and Grumblejack are in melee with the Commander. Round 4, Xen is already committed to throwing the tanglefoot bag. Also: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

ROUND FOUR

Edmin 22 Judge 21 Xen 18 Ragnar 18 Morsum 16 Dren 12 Jax 10 Zimu 9 Commander 3 Grumblejack 3

Have you used up all the CLWs in the wand yet?

DM, Grumblejack gets an attack (flanking, reach, Bless, high ground) at the end of his move action. I suck at the rules but I learn. Roll high cutie.

Well, when smiting. Presumably it's less when he's not smiting.

Zimu only:

Wow, it's a Wrathful Mantle. +2 (or more?) to all saves, and then he can dismiss it as a free action doing 2d8 force damage to everyone in a 5' radius.

You're right! Fair cop! He swings... 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 28 and hits! Another 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 7 = 18 damage on the Commander!

Dren casts CMW on Edmin and shows where the tanglefoot bag is to Xen.

He used his AOO on Grumbles, now might be the time to grapple him!I have the last wand, it has 48 charges in it.

Cast cure moderate wounds 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 8) + 5 = 20 at least that worked okay...

Get up and kill him Edmin!

As much as I would like to gamble on a Hold Person, he will have a great will save and might have consumed a potion or cast a spell of Prot. from Evil which would give him a bonus to his save and potentially and two saves...the chances of it working is very slim, I would rather give Edmin another attack.

It's a new round, which means that everyone's AoOs have recharged. So if Edmin stands up, he's going to eat an AoO from the Commander -- Edmin is currently at 15 hits, so another solid blow will probably kill him.

Of course, assuming the Commander doesn't have Combat Reflexes, the simple solution is for someone else to eat the AoO first. Seriously, it's an option. You'd take damage, but he's only smiting Edmin, so not nearly as much damage. And that would let Edmin stand up and fight. (Unless he has Combat Reflexes, of course. In which case, oh well.)

Female Aasimar Wizard 6 (HP 53/53; AC 18/18/15; CMD 16 Fort +5; Ref +7 Will +8; Init +3; Perception +11; Darkvision 60 ft)

Edmin (35), Grumblejack (18), Morsum (4) dealt 57 damage, hopefully we can finish this this round! May the dice favor the bold (or at least the villains).

Cуровую eyes widen, and she shouts to the group.

'WE MUST BREAK HIM BEFORE HE ACTS! He can cause an retributive explosion with the spell surrounding him!'

And STILL MAKE his FULL ATTACK!

Female Aasimar Wizard 6 (HP 53/53; AC 18/18/15; CMD 16 Fort +5; Ref +7 Will +8; Init +3; Perception +11; Darkvision 60 ft)

Cуровую's round 4 actions on her turn

Spoiler:
but she master her anger, and channels it another way.

All those who live through the day will remember an incredible site, Cуровую had cast Shocking Grasp the charged straight through the commander.

Charge touch attack +Bless + Shocking Grasp bonus 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 25

Damage 5d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 6, 5) + 3 = 26

That's so cool I'm tempted to let you do it. Unfortunately, IIUC, for everyone but a magus you have to cast Shocking Grasp in advance. Then you can "hold the charge" and make the touch attack on any subsequent round. (You've probably gotten a different idea from watching Jax, but he's a magus.)

I believe the rules are that you can discharge a touch spell on the same round you cast it with a touch attack otherwise I could never cure someone in the same round as I cast it or cast an inflict spell and discharge it in the same round. The advantage of the Magus is that he gets a sword attack on top of the touch attack damage. Same thing with scroching ray. You cast the spell but you get a ranged touch attack as well to deliver.

Male Human Oracle (FC) 15 Init: +8 Perc: +0 AC:24/14/20 F:+13 R:+14 W:+15 HP:124/124 Freedom of movement, Resist Cold/30, Air Walk 30'

Core: Touch Spells and Holding the Charge: In most cases, if you don't discharge a touch spell on the round you cast it, you can hold the charge (postpone the discharge of the spell) indefinitely. You can make touch attacks round after round until the spell is discharged. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates.
Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets as part of the spell. You can't hold the charge of such a spell; you must touch all targets of the spell in the same round that you finish casting the spell.
Discharge: Occasionally a spells lasts for a set duration or until triggered or discharged. I believe its the first sentence that really supports the way I have interpreted touch spells for many years.

Female Aasimar Wizard 6 (HP 53/53; AC 18/18/15; CMD 16 Fort +5; Ref +7 Will +8; Init +3; Perception +11; Darkvision 60 ft)

Well in theory all of you guys get to attack as well before me!

DM if that's your ruling but strictly by the rules, casting Shocking Grasp still allows for a touch attack action, the only difference here is Cуровую charged, and I am not sure if a charge is allowed. In other words she wanted to use it this round NOT the next.

----

To make it simpler Cуровую will just cast Ye Olde Scorching Ray at the dear commander when it's her turn so she goes this round, fair?

Ranged to hit + Bless

To hit 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 = 27

Damage 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 2) + 4 = 10

Let's go with that for now. Okay, assuming Zimu can do it, the good news is the Commander is zapped for 26 points of damage! That's actually pretty impressive, because he doesn't have any resistance to electricity. So, ouch.

The less good news is, now she's standing right next to a pissed off paladin.

Technically there is a chance Cуровую won't even go this round as she acts after all of the above, I just posted actions because I really need to sleep.

Also Edmin can strike while on the ground without getting up but at a negative right?

Round Four

Random OOC note, Most of the posting occurs overnight/early morning for me. I check around 9/10 AM my time after I get to work.

Jax casts Vanish and moves up the stairs, moving through the Commander's square.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Acrobatics if needed. He's invisible though, so..
1d20 + 29 ⇒ (14) + 29 = 43 stealth as well.
That gets another melee person up and next to the commander. Also invisible and able to full attack next round.

As a question, how did the Commander manage to make a 5-foot step down a ladder? Shouldn't that be difficult terrain which would not allow 5-foot steps?

If he had to make a normal move, this would have drawn AoO from Edmin, Grumbles and Morsum and only allowed a single attack.
