It was strange. It was just another day for you, a relative nobody. Sure, you had some skill, but no more than anyone else you knew. You weren't a mighty warrior, a grand mage, a great thief, or anything else that was very spectacular. However, it seemed the heavens called upon you. You watched as the sky opened up. The clouds parted and the stars themselves aligned themselves, almost as they were calling you. This was two weeks ago. No one else could see it, but yourself. Every night passed with the same event happening, each time the stars seemd slightly brighter, slighlty closer.
Then today, instead of the stars lining up, the sky became bright. It filled with light, brighter and brighter, until it was nothing but white. The last thing you remember is your vision filled with the light and a sense of weightlessness.
Welcome, folks, to my first attempt at a PBB and it is a doozy! I've run a multitude of adventures, campaigns, and adventure paths, before, so I'm not worried about being up to the challenge. In fact, it will be easier, I have time on my side when it comes to the PBB format. Enough about me, though, let's get to the meat of things.
Expect planet hopping, quite a bit of it in fact. No Golarion this time around. I am very interested in intriguing characters and backgrounds. Your character can be whoever from wherever you like on Golarion, but know you won't be home anytime during this game. Details about where you end up, why you're there, and what is expected of you will be revealed once the game starts. I'm looking for fun characters, be they fun from a combat or roleplay standpoint. No worries about party makeup here!
Character Requirements:
- Level 1 Character

The recruitment starts now! Recruitment is open until Friday, March 2nd at 7 PM US Central Time, with players decided on Sunday, March 4th at 5PM. I will be taken in five players of my chossing based on arbritary qualifications. Expect to post daily, save for weekends. Best of luck to all! Hop to it!

Very cool! Definitely interested. I'll be putting together a magus I think. Black blade archetype would be flavorful given the whole blackness of space.
Edit: So I had a different Magus concept ready to roll and then I realized I had Quentin Marshall, cowboy magus already written up. I also realized that cowboys in space is a concept that has been conclusively proven to be awesome. So here's Marshall. I'll be updating his backstory some for this campaign.
I'll post when that's done. Cowboys...in...spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!!!!!!
Edit 2: What's your feeling on harsh language? They got away with it on Firefly by speaking Chinese but I don't think it makes a lot of sense in this context. I'm not thinking as bad as Deadwood but more along the lines of True Grit. The Dude one, not the Duke one.

Anything within PG-13 is acceptable. Bonus points if you can come up with cool cowboy slang instead of using straight up curse words.

I can do this. The backstory in the profile is more R but I can tone it down for gameplay. It's no problem to call someone a pig loving no good piece of dung instead of a pig ******* no good piece of ****.

On second thought. I'm about due for a big, mean masher of a character, and seeing the Orc option there....Hmmmm
An orc druid with a boar companion? Pigs in Space!
I'm thinking I am interested in a Nagiji warrior-type. Will be brain-storming a background now.
Edit: Order of he Seal samurai is talking to me; so is a cleric of Desna who dreams to see the stars that she hung in the sky (luck and travel).

Growing up in Boodka's tribe you learned to hate humans. His tribe was stronger, more fierce, tougher, and smarter...but the human forces had one advantage. Their cussed metal armor. While his tribe entered combat armored only in their anger, the humans waded in with their armor deflecting the blows of his tribes fiercest warriors.
So slowly and secretly Boodka began to collect the pieces of his own set of armor. Finally it was time for the raid. He came out in his full suit of piecemeal armor, proud, and ready to wreak havoc. Clanking, and squealing he entered the ranks...And the laughter began.
The laughing and pointing, and calling him a coward for hiding behind steel. How could they? He pushed and shoved everyone within reach, but the derision only increased. They then began to throw things, mud, clumps of grass, stones anything they could reach, laughing and calling him a coward. Finally their blows drove him to the ground, then to the grasp of unconciousness. And they left him there, sure he was dead.
He awoke with one of the ugly humans standing over him. He hurt all over, but he would at least take his hated enemy with him. He lurched forward, but found that his wounds, and the fact he was shackled kept him from acheiving his goal, and led him to black out again. He awoke once again, and this time decided not to fight, but to regain his strength, and gather his energy for his revenge...but something was not right. Once when they released his hands to eat, he felt his face. It was now mishapen...broken fangs, smashed nose, misssing ear, and worst of all when he felt behind the new patch applied to his eye, he found it missing.
Over time he learned the language of his captors, and in fact came to trust, and actually form bonds with his captors. Finally he bagan to fight alongside them. He was a mercernary. Finally when it came time for all the new fighters to be inducted into the company his pride reached it's peak, until he found out he would never be promoted. "He is an Orc". That is when he left the company. Since then he had been on his own. A man without a country, or a home.

I am still working on his backstory, but here is DukeRuckley's Nagaji Lore Warden Fighter. The basic premise behind him is that he is an Interrogator for the Naga in Nagajin. He sees his job as a necessary thing, and does not cause any lasting harm during his interrogations. The worst criminals and traitors get is a very bad bruising. I'll work on sprucing up and expanding his backstory over the next day.
For now, you can check out his stats in his profile. He uses a whip primarily. Due to the Enforcer feat, he is able to intimidate as a free action when using his whip. He probably won't be the primary damage dealer in a battle, but he'll be good for tripping (especially after a few more levels) and demoralizing, so he's a great support role.
If anyone has any suggestions for a better avatar, let me know.

Here is some crunch to start off with.
Looks fine, but make sure you use 25 point-buy. Otherwise, looking forward to the rest.
I'm more concerned with what you think of the backstory.
I like it! I'm a fan of Cayden myself, so there might be a slight bias. :) Just make sure to complete your stats. I noticed you're missing the physical stats from your info, but otherwise, keep it up!
Here's the outline, and brief history of Boodka.
Two things with this character. First, I can't find the traits you picked. Second, I think you may want to recalculate your skills. Otherwise, seems good so far.
Here is DukeRuckley's Nagaji Lore Warden Fighter.
Minor things here as well. Your Perception modifier should be -1, if I'm not mistaken. Also, you have your HP calculated correctly, but your statblock states you have a d12 hit die. Just minor typos. Looking great otherwise.
On a second thought i have to drop out, sorry, too many other engagements in RL. Thanks for the opportunity.
No worries, bud. Best of luck with the life!

Here is a rough bio for Zarz. I will adjust him to a 25 point buy and complete his skills etc...
Zarzuq Lucerne likes to make an impression on people. Whether he is in a social club, gambling hall, tavern or caravan wagon, Zarq will take nearly any opportuniy to impress others with his wit, knowledge or charm. He is not overbearing and pays attention to the concerns of his company but if he is not careful he tends to monopolize conversations and lose sight of the fact that others might not immediately agree with his point of view. Despite this shortcoming, he does listen intently to any interesting tale someone else tells him, even if he believes it to be entirely false. "After all" he says "who says that the truth has a monoloply on value?"
The only thing that Zarq likes more thanimpressing others is to be impressed. To this end he seeks out new experiences with a zeal that exceeds that of a typical gnome. He does not measure rewards in terms of practical gains but rather by the quality of the experience itself. To Zarq, life is to lived vivaciously; there is so much to be done and so many possibilities that it would be unthinkable to stand by and let them pass. He abhors boredom and grows anxious and uncomfortable with mudane tasks. "The evil of banality" he calls them.
Nothing fascinates Zarq more than magic. To be able to change the very condition of existence thrills him. Zarq pursues magical power and knowledge with a zell that disregards most notions of structure or prudence. As a result, his spellcasting ability can have wildly unpredictable results. Sometimes he will lose control of a spell and loose pure chaos into the world. When this happens Zarq's skin goes stark white for a few moments until he comes to his senses. In those moments others have mistaken him for a victim of the Bleaching.

Both traits are from Orcs of Golarion.
Not sure what you see on the skill calculations. I use Hero Lab, which I find out to be very accurate. What seems to be the issue. I do have Armor penalties figured in, and traits/class abilities included.

Nagaji have a +2 racial bonus to perception (Serpent's Sense). I will correct the d12 to d10 right now. I should also note that I forgot to include a Favored Class bonus (probably will go into HP) and I made a mistake with my skills (two of them must be intelligence based, and I only have 1 int based right now).
Backstory is still forthcoming. Thanks for looking him over!

Here is a rough bio for Zarz.
Looks great!
I didn't see Goblins on the list of allowed races.
No Goblins, sorry.
Both traits are from Orcs of Golarion. Not sure what you see on the skill calculations.
Somehow, those traits weren't in the d20PFSRD. Oh well, I found them. As for your skills, I don't understand how the totals were determined for all the Dex and Str based skills. For example, the statblock states your bonus to Acrobatics is -1. However, even with no ranks, your total should be -3 due to +1 dex and -4 armor. With a rank, it would be +1.
Also, it's hard to tell what skills do or don't have ranks.
Thanks for looking him over!
I missed the bit about Perception. Thanks for clearing that up!

scranford |

scranford wrote:Aha! I missed the shield! Thanks for letting me know.Acrobatics: +1 Dex, +3 Skill, +1 Rank (-4 Armor), (-2) Shield = (-1)
I have ranks in Acrobatics, Climb, Intimidate, Knowledge(Nature), and Perception.
No problem. I'd hate to have to do these characters without Hero Lab doing all the math for me :-)

Entaro Yotori |

Here's the backstory.
Backstory:
Entaro grew up in Nagajin and lived a fairly normal life. He had two interests, one which was common for his kind and one which wasn't. His first interest involved combat and this led him to seek a life as a soldier. His other interest was that of knowledge and lore, which most Nagaji find to be pointless and uninteresting, perhaps because most Nagaji aren't very smart.
Entaro's interest in learning led many of his peers to shun him and, in some cases, bully him. He had to learn rather quickly how to defend himself. The solution he came up with was to become a more intimidating figure. He trained to increase his strength and worked out ways to make his bullies feel inferior to him. These skills that he developed translated into a career. Rather than become a warrior, Entaro became an interrogator. Using intimidation as his primary tactic, Entaro had a knack for being able to extract information from enemies of the Naga.
Despite his job verging on torture, Entaro kept a strict code. First, he would never interrogate a child or a man of simple mind. Second, he would never do lasting harm to his subject. Bruises and other minor injuries that heal quickly were the most he ever inflicted. And finally, he would immediately stop receiving information, never harming his subject more than absolutely necessary.
Entaro did not enjoy hurting people, but a job was a job and he was good at it. The code he kept to gave him a reason to continue, to justify what he had to do to protect the citizens of his native land and the Naga they served.
One night, Entaro took a stroll through the jungle to a clearing he found a few years ago. He sometimes went there to clear his head after especially trying days. Looking up, he saw the clouds part and the stars align. When he mentioned this to his friends and coworkers, they mostly laughed, thinking he was playing a joke. But the strange occurrence brought him back to the clearing the next night and the next, and the same event happened again and again. Finally, one night when the stars appeared brighter than ever, the sky went suddenly bright and he felt weightless. That is the last anyone in Nagajin has seen of Entaro.
Appearance and Personality:
Entaro is tall with very the wide shoulders that are common with the Nagaji. His scales are a very muted gray-blue, with two bright red ridges running up the sides of his back and neck and forming a "V" on his forehead. His eyes are a bright yellow that resembles a snake's eyes.
Though what Entaro does for a living may be seen as torture to some, he doesn't view it that way. He sticks to a very strict code to prevent himself from ever treading toward the Evil side of torture and interrogation and he does not take pleasure in bringing pain to anyone. He can be intimidating, especially to humanoids who have never encountered the Nagaji before. However, when one gets to know him, they find him to be trustworthy, loyal, and good-hearted.
