For the record, I meant pre-craft *potions*, not lotions...

1. Concept - Click to see my profile. Note the "Background" spoiler.

2. Posting - I can usually post multiple times a day. I've probably had about 10 days in the past year I couldn't post.

3. Familiarity with AP - Heard of it. Just downloaded the Player's Guide. No other knowledge.

4. Mechanics - I have 7 skills, most notably several knowledge skills, spellcraft, and craft(alchemy) at high bonuses. I also bring potion crafting and disguise to the table. I also have a wide variety of spells for different situations.
In combat, I can throw some javelins into folk when need be, or I can Daze or Evil Eye. I can also use Cause Fear or Ray of Enfeeblement if things get really dicey. Mostly supportive in combat until I get a wand of Magic Missile. Or I can get a wand of CLW and be the party healer, because witches rock that stuff.

5. The Scenario:
The Rusty Dragon is filled with patrons gleefully drinking, eating and conversing. A visiting Varisian bard is one corner, singing a crude song about a Hellknight and halfling sailor, while in the corner across the room, a game of liar's dice is being played by several rough-looking characters. Suddenly, a large, tattooed thug stands from the game and bellows, "Ya filthy cheat! You think you can just smile at me and take my gold? I don' think so!" He lifts his accused from his seat - a slight Varisian male seemingly less than half his size.

The bard stops playing immediately and points at the scene. "Someone, help my brother from that brute!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Terflynn sneaks around the edge of the tavern to the bard. "I take payment in advance." he speaks from beneath the hood obscuring his face. A rough hand extends from the end of a heavy woolen sleeve, clearly awaiting payment. The bard quickly empties his tip bowl into Terflynn's hand as the large man begins to drag the apparent cheat towards the exit. Terflynn patiently counts the coins, pockets them, and holds out his hand again, unsatisfied. As the bard hurries to empty his own pockets, the small Varisian and his accuser reach the door. Finally Terflynn looks down at the second payment, jingles it a moment, then pockets that as well, satisfied. He mumbles a few arcane words and makes an impossible-looking hand motion, and suddenly the large thug's eyes go wide while his pupils go pinpoint small. A look of terror shadows his face as he leaves the Varisian and bolts out the door, wailing. "Thanks much." Terflynn says to the Bard as he goes out the back way and disappears into the night.

When the terrible music stopped, Avan knew that something has gone wrong, He was glad he didn't have to tune it out anymore, but then again he was used to tuning out even less appealing sounds, he looked at the source of this abrupt change of environment with the back of his eye, then the turned his head to what was in front of him.

"Ahem, I think its time for you to do your job" Said Ameiko calmly as she grabbed a mug and began cleaning it, the sight of her alone would indicate that she never had a care in the world.

Avan turns in his stool to fully grasp the scene that was unfolding here, it was then he noticed the dice at the "trouble maker's" table "Maybe the small one was cheating, you are always telling me that if you get caught cheating it is your own fault" Said Avan in an extremely nonchalant tone of speech.

"That doesn't mean that my place should become a fighting pit, besides can you really prove that he was cheating?" The owner of the rusty dragon placed the mug down, and pushed the martial artist off the stool and gave him a look that clearly said "get to it".

The blond man walked towards the two men, his footsteps slow and quiet. Once he was in range of them, he looked at the large man "I am sure that you can take whatever problems you have with this man outside" Said the martial artist, his voice soaked with indifference.

"Its none of your business, shove off!" Replied the large man.

Avan lost interest in the man and looked at the table, and the people wondered what was the man who was supposed to keep this place fight-free doing. He walked closer to the table grabbed the dice and calmly threw them at thug's feet. The large man looked at Avan once more.

"I really don't understand these types of games, but I am guessing that luck is involved, and if you lose you lose your gold...but that's not why your angry, your angry because you think this man was trying to outsmart you, your angry because your used to getting your way and when someone stops you from getting your way and makes you look like a fool in the process..." Avan stopped as the thug got closer to him, while dragging the varisian man with only one hand "You must think very highly of your self" Continued Avan, as he locked glares with the tattooed man, who's pupils were clearly mirroring the anger he felt inside.

"Here is what is going to happen, I'll start with your nose, it will hurt, and you'll have trouble breathing, then I'll go for your ribs, it will hurt more and you'll have more trouble breathing, finally I'll go for your leg, you'll be on the ground, broken, barely breathing, and it will give me enough time to make sure that the last thing you ever worry about is your pride...actually, I think I'll be doing you a favor " Avan's words moved at a very calm and relaxed pace, it almost felt like he was giving someone directions, his face showed no sign of anger and his eyes while trained on thug seemed to look past him.

The large man never realized that he took a step back until he made another, the hand that turned the smaller man into a captive of his was shaking slightly, and then almost without warning he unhanded the smaller man and the thug was walking at a very quick pace towards the exit.

"Thank you, Thank you for saving my brother" Said the Bard, gratitude clinging to every word she uttered.

"Your singing is terrible, its harder to tune out then the voices of everyone in this room" Said Avan as he left the poor girl with an open mouth and a look of complete shock on her face.

Here's my alias, but I'm still deciding on an avatar-- of all things I could be indecisive about...

@Terflynn - That makes way more sense. I thought maybe your witch was going to go down the "Cook People" line of hexes and needed to soften the skin of his victims first. Which, while morbid, would certainly be creative.

@Everyone - I intend to close recruitment this afternoon and hopefully announce the party this evening. So if you've expressed interest (or simply lurked the thread), get the app in as soon as you can!

For those who've already applied, I'll be going through your submissions today. I may have questions, but if you don't see my question before recruitment is closed, I don't think it should hurt you too much.

The list of applicants is unchanged from my previous post, but here it is again:

Well, I'll throw my hat in the ring. Caerwyn is a martially focused Rogue who has been in a couple of different JR campaigns that have fizzled before the goblin encampment scenario or shortly thereafter.

Concept: Caerwyn is a Rogue, Scout archetype who is attached to the Sandpoint militia. As a child he and a group of local boys were rescued by Shalelu form a goblin band and he developed a crush on her ever since then. I see him taking a few (2-3) levels of Fighter to augment his fighting ability.

Posting: I do a majority of my posting from work where I have plenty of downtime to post. I'm able to post at least once a day if not more if the action requires it.

Familiarity with AP: As I said above, Caerwyn has been in this AP before but they never seemed to make it past the first couple of encounters before the died out (maybe it's me?)

Mechanics: I see Caerwyn as a mobile fighter type, dodging and ducking his way around the battlefield to support other fighter types with a "flank buddy" which will also help with his Sneak Attack damage, as well as a lone point man proceeding the party as a lookout/scout with the ability to stand toe-to-toe if until help arrives if things go south on a patrol.

Scenario: Caerwyn stands up from his table, thinking to himself "Why does this always seem to happen while I'm off duty". Turning to one of his drinking buddies he says "Why don't you get the Sheriff in case this doesn't turn out well."
Walking over to the scene of the altercation Caerwyn clears his throat "Take it easy there, big fella. What makes you think that this man has been cheating you? We've all had a bad day at the dice every now and then." Turning to look at the slight varisian man "Cheating is a very serious accusation and I'm afraid as a Sheriff's Deputy I'm going to have to confiscate your dice until this whole mess can be resolved."
Looking up into the big man's eyes Caerwyn tells him "Now if you would be so kind as to let him down before the Sheriff and his men arrive and I have to arrest you as well for being drunk and disorderly".

Character Concept
There has been a character concept I've been wanting to try for awhile -

Essentially a mobile tactical fighter. He is intelligent, great at reading a battlefield, and tricking his enemies.

Name - Falcon Dragorian.
Chaotic Good - Human - Fighter (Two Handed Archetype).
Starting XP - 10 :)

I did a big write-up from a higher level perspective which you can find here if you are interested. Though the details have changed slightly since then, the 'standard action fighter' part of it remains the same. I can crunch him down to level 1 very quick. First level feats would probably be Power Attack, Combat Expertise, and Improved Feint.

Quick Background
He has been a wanderer, working as a guard or a soldier where he can to feed his belly. He doesn't feel that his skills have been really appreciated but has recently he has heard about rumors and rumblings in Varsia and thought it might be a good place to go to earn some coin and the travel might settle his wanderlust.

Eventually he came to Magnimar, but the hustle of the major city was unsettling after a prolonged stay and apart from some criminals to be caught he didn't find much work. He went a bit north to Sandpoint, a smaller town but still rich in history, wondering where fate will take him.

Posting
I can easily post once a day, usually more and I can almost always post on weekends except for the very occasional weekend trip.

AP Knowledge
I only know about the Jade Regent from what is posted on the Paizo website. It does sound like an interesting AP and I look forward to exploring Varsia.

Contributions
Combat wise - Damage and trips (eventually Greater Trip), and eventually greater feints (AKA - rogue's best friend).

Non combat - Bluff would probably be his most useful out of combat skill.

Response:
Falcon puts down his drink of ale, it wasn't good anyway and he wonders if The Rusty Dragon waters down the drinks, he goes and see's what the commotion is about. Recognizing that the bard is in trouble he will come to his defense.

I just got here and I already found trouble

Hey buddy, you picking on my friend over there? Might not be such a good idea. Besides I have a couple more friends waiting just outside

Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Hopefully the thuggish brute will back down but just in case Falcon adopts a fighting stance in case things get ugly. Besides, he really doesn't have any backup.

I realize I'm somewhat late to the party, but I would like to apply with Liu Na Pei, tavern waitress and secret bodyguard for the Kaijitsu family.

1. Character Concept:
Background:
Liu Na Pei, or “Luna” as the folks of Sandpoint call her, currently works as a waitress at the Rusty Dragon.

Luna wasn’t always a tavern waitress. Luna’s mother, Kasuri Pei, was a servant of the Kaijitsu family, one of the noble families of Sandpoint. Kasuri’s ancestors were servants of the Kaijitus, and immigrated with them to Sandpoint. Luna resulted from an affair Kasuri had with a visiting elf glass merchant from Magnimar - Kasuri never told Luna his name, nor would anyone else in the Kaijitsu household.

Two years after Luna’s birth, the Kaijitsus gave birth to their daughter Ameiko. As children Luna and Ameiko played together and were as close as sisters, even though Luna was destined to be Ameiko’s servant when they both grew to maturity. Luna was quite upset when Ameiko ran away to become an adventurer with Sandru Vhiski, blaming the Varisian for taking her near-sister away from Sandpoint while she was left behind to lead the life of a servant. She was even more upset with Sandru when Ameiko came back a year later changed - purchasing the Rusty Dragon and living in the tavern instead of the Kaijitsu manor, and refusing to talk about what happened to her or her companions during their adventures. Still, when Luna’s mother was killed in a goblin raid on the town and Ameiko’s father was murdered a few days later, Ameiko quickly offered Luna a job as a waitress and a place to live at the Rusty Dragon. Since that time the two young women have become good friends again, although Luna still holds a grudge against Sandru Vhiski and refuses to serve the man or even speak to him whenever his travels bring him back to Sandpoint and the Rusty Dragon. To Luna, Sandru is little better than his Sczarni older brother Jubrayl.

What no one living today other than Luna knows is that her ancestors, the Pei family, were more than just servants for the Kaijitsus. For centuries the Pei family were a clan of ninja, serving as secret bodyguards and protectors of the Kaijitsu family. Prior to Luna’s birth, her mother Kasuri was the last of the line. Kasuri taught Luna some of the secrets of the clan, disabling locks and hidden traps throughout the Kaijitsu manor, moving silently across Sandpoint’s rooftops at night, and practicing the beautiful yet deadly combat techniques of the clan’s ancestral fighting fans. With her mother dead, Luna now bears the mantle of secret protector of the last of the Kaijitsus.

Appearance:
Age: 26
Height: 5'-4"
Weight: 110 lbs
Despite her elven heritage, Luna bears more resemblance to her Tian mother than her unknown elven father. Like her mother, Luna is smaller and slighter in stature than most of the residents of Sandpoint, with yellowish skin and almond-shaped, violet eyes. Unlike her mother, Luna has pointed ears and silvery-white hair, which her mother always said was an omen of greatness.

2. Posting Frequency:
I can usually post a couple of times in the day (in the morning before work and in the evening after the kids go to bed). My posting frequency should increase after mid-August when I drop down to a part-time work schedule.

3. Familiarity with Jade Regent:
I have the AP, but I have not read it in hopes of participating in it as a player.

I have participated in 2 Jade Regent PbP's here on the Paizo site - I had to drop out of the first one due to work commitments just after finishing up in the marshes, and the second one stalled just as we reached Brinewall Castle.

4. Contribution to the Game:
Liu Na would serve primarily as the party skill monkey (perception, stealth, disable device, diplomacy, some knowledge, etc.) and as a secondary combat character. As her abilities increase and she has more ability to deal sneak attack damage, her damage output will hopefully increase.

5. Scenario Response: To be submitted shortly.

Thanks for your consideration, and good luck to all applicants!

Okay, so 'shortly' turned into 2.5 hours later. I will be so happy when my work schedule drops to part-time.

5. Scenario Response:
GM Cello wrote:

5. Provide an in-character response to the following "scenario." This is designed to give me a sense of your voice as a player and your personality as a character. Your response will have no bearing on the story or future implications for your character.

The Scenario

Liu Na glides nimbly about the Rusty Dragon's common room; the tavern clientele barely noticing the unassuming presence of the slight waitress. Her violet eyes dart perceptively about the room, reading the mood of the crowd and the body language of the various patrons. Noticing the altercation almost before it begins, she sets down her tray and silently slides up behind the tattooed thug. With a barely audible *snik* a dagger appears in her hand as if by magic, its needle-sharp tip pricking the thug's lower back just above his right kidney.

"Settle down, Jorland," she says calmly. "You know Ameiko doesn't tolerate fighting in the Dragon, and she'll dock my pay if I spill your blood on the floor again - she just had it cleaned and polished from the last time."

"And you-" she says louder, pointing toward the Varisian bard across the room with a second dagger that appears just as suddenly in her other hand; her first blade never wavering from the thug's back. "I suggest you take your hand from that merchant's purse if you don't want your singing voice to permanently become several octaves higher. You and your 'brother' may think you can trick my friend here into serving as a distraction so you can rob our patrons, but Ameiko holds an even dimmer view of pickpockets in the Dragon than she does fighting. Your boss Jubrayl knows better as well, so tell him to stop sending you amateurs in here to cause problems. I suggest you leave," she says firmly. "NOW."

"Jorland, if you would be so kind, please put the man down. Outside, along with his 'brother'," Liu Na requests of the tattooed thug as she withdraws the dagger from his back. She fixes the the bard with a stern glance, silently conveying that he has only mere seconds to depart the tavern unbloodied. "After you take out this trash I'll get you a plate of Bethanna's ginger-spiced salmon and a flagon of winterdrop mead. And Ameiko will be down in a few minutes, everyone," she announces to the now-silent crowd in a slightly louder voice. "I'm sure you all would rather hear her songs anyway instead of that hack's caterwauling. So drink up!"

** spoiler omitted **...

Your character's mother has a nice name

GM Cello wrote:
@Terflynn - That makes way more sense. I thought maybe your witch was going to go down the "Cook People" line of hexes and needed to soften the skin of his victims first. Which, while morbid, would certainly be creative.

Which would actually be darkly awesome. I never thought I'd be considering the possibility that a Pathfinder character might be using a line like 'It rubs the lotion on the skin, or else it gets the hose again'.

Unfortunately at first level I'd just be a creepy lotion peddler. No real danger there. Just a weird guy.

Mayor Kendra Deverin nodded as she passed the parchment towards Sheriff Hemlock. "I suppose this is the best we can do," she said, squeezing the bridge of her nose.

Hemlock studied his hand-picked list. "It's not ideal, no, but as you're far too aware, we can't afford to send any troops wandering through the swamp. The bounty will serve as motivation, and I'm certain these five are capable of holding their own against the dangers of Brinestump."

"You know these five better than I, tell me why you've selected them." the mayor requested, settling into her seat.

"Well, let's see here, first, we have Aldel Dresh, the boy who used to serve as a ward to Father Zantus. He's been back in Sandpoint for nearly a year now after training in Magnimar. He's grown quite a bit and looks quite handy in a fight. Next, we have Cally Pertwee."

"I'm eager to hear your rationale on this one," Kendra says, perking up a bit.

"Well, to be honest, I had little choice," Hemlock says, shaking his head. "When she heard we were reinstating the bounty, she practically assaulted me in her eagerness to join a group heading into the swamp. She's too stubborn and willful to allow anything bad to happen to her or her companions. Next there's Terflynn Pram. To be honest, I don't know much about this one. He's a solitary sort, but seems to have a way with potions and poisons. The swamp is full of strange substances and I thought it prudent to bring him along."

"A wise choice, I'm sure," Kendra nods. "And the last two?"

"Well we have Ruhk - I think many refer to him as 'The Dandy'. I'm sure you're familiar with him. If nothing else, he'll provide some entertainment to those he's traveling with. And lastly we have Caerwyn Callandriill…" The sheriff was cut short as Kendra started to object. "I know, we don't want to send any of our men, but Cal has earned this chance. He asked for the opportunity and I have granted it. We can spare one man."

Kendra nodded her agreement. "I know better than to argue," she said, rising from her chair. "Again, my compliments on your selections. I am eager to have them off and returned. Send them their notices and have them begin at once."

---

All right folks, the party will be:

Aldel Dresh
Calandra 'Cally' Pertwee
Terflynn Pram
Ruhk "The Dandy"
Caerwyn Callandriill

Congratulations to those selected. Head on over to the Discussion Thread and check in.

For those not selected, it was an incredibly tough decision to narrow it down to these five. There were some incredible applications.

I encourage you all to head over to my other recruitment thread for a Curse of the Crimson Throne game.

Cheers,
Cello

Oh well guess i can wait longer the second year could be lucky...

Already applied over there ut dont have any hopes there really

Been after a jade regent game reailly

Anyone up to run it?

Everybody try to enjoy yourselves! That's why we do this, isn't it?

Sorry, no interest in Crimson Throne. Thank you for the opportunity. I had hoped being one of the two ranged martialists (and being capable of supporting in melee) would give me an edge.

Wow thats two rejections in less than three days, must be a record or something...makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong. I'll apply for your CotCT game, third time's the charm eh?

not to worry my monk Cyx has been rejected 13 times for way of the wicked.

Lantern Lodge

Thanks for the consideration! Good luck and congrats to those selected.

Thanks for the consideration, I see my name is listed in your Crimson Throne campaign. I would like to play that if I have the chance, want me to post another application?

Yes - please head over and complete another application.
