Wren belches a huge cone of fire that engulfs both of the hounds. Eponine feels the heat and both dogs fail to avoid the full brunt of the flames. Upstairs Sophy chases after Victor also driven by fear. From the hall come a loud shrill ringing sound that is uncomfortable to the ears and Orik cries out as his bastard sword vibrates furiously in his hand like a tuning fork, but it holds and remains solid. Kern hustles up the rest of the stairs trying to flee as fast as he can, he can see Sophy and Victor on the bridge from the doorway of the stockade.

Belril, furious at being so ineffective, feels the taunts of the Andoran warriors once more in his mind, from so many years ago.

You? A warrior! But your a Halfling!

Ahahahaha... Look at him swinging that sword, looks like my son Matthias!

Why do you even bother? Just settle down here in the city, get a job... You are just wasting your life trying to fight with the real men!

His fury at the comments is unleashed as a white hot focus in his mind. Despite his fatigue, he aims his sling staff at the least wounded of the Yeth Hounds and lets fly, anger powering his shots.

Rangers Focus on the least wounded Yeth Hound.

Is this a third hound howling we need to save against? Having made two saves Belril should be immune if not? Is it the one through the two doors? If so, perception checks to hear through both doors are pretty steep (+5 to DC per door so +10). Maybe we need to pass our perception checks to be affected? I like the thought of hoping for a 1 on a perception roll for once lol. Rolling my will save anyway to save time but interestingly, i noted the ability has a 3oo foot radius spread. Any surviving goblins in other rooms would have to roll perception to see if they hear it, or better yet if simply auto-affected it pretty much affects the entire fort...

Belril stands his ground as he watches Wren's will crumple, clutching his sling staff and almost laughing at the tragic humour of the situation; he had almost ventured in alone and now he was all but alone anyway.

I won't let them forget this day. Belril thinks grimly as his stout halfling heart resists the baying once again and he is left standing with only Orik beside him. Such a rout is in itself, an incentive to regain their honour and harden themselves against such tactics in the future.

Ameiko, can you walk? Belril asks bluntly of the bard. Orik, which way now?

Fear creeps into your mind, you have to get away from the hound outside those doors. Yes the hound in the hall is the third one to Bay, you only become immune to the ones that have already bayed and they are now dead. It does affect the pretty much the whole fort (and I have accounted for that), though I opt to say that Nualia is immune, it is her hounds given as gifts from her goddess. The other NPC's have all run off. I made one roll for Ameiko on the first hound, but am allowing that to account for all her rolls, it helps you all with the Courage and is one less roll I Had to make each round. The walls are stone, at the time of the bay only one door was closed, but the other door leading out (where the other two dogs came from is open) and the sound can carry though there as well.

DM

Spoiler:
Do I need to keep fleeing toward the demon armed woman, or will seeing her allow me to realize this is even worse, and flee in a different direction?

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

Wren:
Sorry; I'm reading spoilers since I've nothing else to do in this battle. :)

Quote:
A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. It can't take any other actions. In addition, the creature takes a –2 penalty on all saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. If cornered, a panicked creature cowers and does not attack, typically using the total defense action in combat. A panicked creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.

So if you can't flee from both, you have to cower and not attack.

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

What Sophy said, but you can do it in a way that is in character can alert other pcs. I think you still have a blast of the spell and if she thinks that might clear her a path she can use it.

The special abilities to flee are things like dimension door, expeditious retreat, teleport, etc. Or is this DM Fiat to avoid our total ignominious defeat?

Sophy, Wren, DM:

Agree 100%. Letting someone with the panicked condition attack is clearly against the intent and RAW.

Ok, I am cool with cowering. My next question, where do I cower? I know the door is shut between me and the last dog. So should I stay at the 15' mark, where I saw the woman, or do I run backwards, like to where the cell is with Ameiko?

Female Human Lore Oracle 5

Wren, DM, whoever's reading these:
Ooh, also, she dropped her bonded object (wand) so would have to make a Concentration check or lose the spell without it.

I'd probably go to the far corner of the dungeon, in P 11. It's as far as you can get from the scary things, in the spirit of fleeing from the source(s) of your fear.

Female Halfling | Psychic (Faith) 8 | AC (17 with Mage Armor)14/13/12| HP 49/49 | Init.+4 | Perc.+14 | CMD 14 |F+5, R+6 W+10(+2 vs Fear) | SenseMotive+6 | Phrenic Pool 6 points/day

That sounds fine to me, if the DM is cool with it.

Wren passes by both Orik and Belril as her nerves finally give out. "Forget thi......," her voice trails off mid sentence as she passes through the open door and sees something inhuman coming toward the few remaining members of the group. She immediately turns on her heels and heads as far away from the creature and the noises at her back as possible. "Everyone stay back!"

Take total defense action at P 11. And yep, Wren dropped her wand, so things are even tougher!

Mid Morning Day 2 Total earned XP: 15,000

Yes the RAW say can not attack, it also says they must use spells to help them flee. I don't think I would allow her to cast the spell new and attack, but here she has one round left of the effect for a spell cast 2 rounds back and I can justify using it to try and scare open a path to freedom before going to cower in the corner. Plus it just looks cool, Wren screams fire, literally, in her panic. Also, the woman is not the source of the fear.

You dropped your bonded object. If a wizard attempts to cast a spell without his bonded object worn or in hand, he must make a concentration check or lose the spell. The DC for this check is equal to 20 + the spell's level. If the object is a ring or amulet, it occupies the ring or neck slot accordingly. Sophy mentioned it earlier.

Victor, Sophy, and Kern...see the info on the the FEAR effect in the OOC thread and then feel free to make a post of what you have been doing for the past two rounds upstairs in the entrance room to the stockade.

Wren leaps to flee from the hound beyond the doors by rushing towards the only open door in the prison chamber. Suddenly she sees they way blocked by a beautiful woman carrying a bastard sword. She has a scared belly, and a demonic arm. Wren gasp in surprise and the last burst of fire blazes from her mouth before she cries out, "Everyone stay back!" Wren then turns and tries to hide in the final jail cell, cowering in fear.

In the original post I rolled 7 damage for the fire burst and Nualia failed the save, I have that detail already saved on my Map so I am going to keep those results.

Belril this action preempted your question to Orik, your save roll counts, and it is your action.

Ameiko weakly says, "I am not sure."

Sophy gasps in horror and shame as she reaches the top of the stairs and realizes they've left their companions below and defenseless, but the thought of going back down where the dogs are makes her knees wobble with fear. "Victor!" she delegates, calling after the fleeing archer. "You have to go back down!"

Also, +4 morale bonus on saving throws against mind-affecting effects that rely on negative emotions (such as crushing despair, rage, or fear effects) or that would force him to harm an ally (such as confusion) for those 4 rounds.

Orik, carry the Elf. Ameiko, follow him. Head out the east door and hook up with the others, just run. I'll catch up. Don't look back. Wren- RUN you cantankerous hag, follow the others!

He moves to N13, closing the door and hurling his weight against it, attempting to brace it against anyone trying to open it from the other side.

To help catch this all up I am going to DMNPC Kern and Victor back into the action.

Sophy becomes a pillar of calm for Victor and Kern who both can not fathom the reason they are running. Victor pulls out his bow and rushes back down the stairs, he sees the dog scratching at the door and takes a shot. The arrow flies true and tags the hound in the rump. Pulling a hand axe from his belt, Kern follows. Once the arrow pierces the hound, it turns to face the on coming threat and Kern is there in it's face. He rears back the axe and drops it on the hounds neck, spaying about some blood.

Belril starts barking out commands and moves across the chamber and slams the door shut. Ameiko keeps up her song, while struggling to get to her feet.
