Demon Hunters ala Fabian (Inactive)

Game Master Fabian Benavente

Telling the interactive story of a group of 'demon hunters' and their incursion into the Worldwound.

1 to 50 of 142 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

All-out war has erupted on the long-contested border between the crusader nation of Mendev and the demon-infested Worldwound. With the magical defenses that once held the demons at bay failing, defense of the region now falls to small patrols of mobile specialists to resupply, reinforce, and communicate between the border's many fortresses and outposts. These small groups are paramount to both protect the border and to prevent the onrushing tide of demonic attackers from plunging the entire Inner Sea region into chaos.

This is their story...
---------------

I am looking for one or two characters to star in a PBP (Play By Post) homebrew campaign. The game 'just started' but a player has dropped out leaving us with only three players. We've put the game on hold until we recruit one or two more players. The current players are: human female bloodrager, half-orc male unchained rogue, and human male arcanist (black blade).

The PBP will be run a little bit differently than most. I am currently running a Hell's Rebels game in this manner. Please see this game for game format; the turn recaps there show what my intention is with regards to gameplay, use of maps, how combat is handled, etc. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Character selection will NOT be first come first serve, and we will take time to develop characters. The game will have action as well as problem solving so a good mix of characters is recommended. The pace will be about two turn recaps per week, and I will do all the ‘passive’ dice rolling (in the interest of speed, I’ll roll things like saving throws, perception checks, etc.). I am looking for "roleplayers" (no uber builds) whose posts are NOT a one sentence reply. All players are expected to write a couple of paragraphs per turn recap within 48 hours after the recap is issued so if you can't meet that schedule please do not bother applying to the game.

If this sounds like a game for you, then post a character with the following sections: a) appearance, b) background, c) personality, and d) portrait or picture. Please make the characters interesting, the strong and silent types just don't cut it in this type of game. See the page above if you would like to see a sample character as a reference on the type of submission I'm looking for.

Once players are selected, we will work on a common background to determine if/how the PCs know each other (and may have even worked together in the past).

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: core races strongly preferred, anything Paizo, 4th level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average gold, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, two traits. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

I will accept character submissions until Friday October 30, 2015 but may close the recruitment early (I'll give a 48 hour notice).

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

Game on!

Fabian

Wouldn't mind at all to try your format, since I think it could improve me both as a player and as a GM. Currently I'm a little bit overwhelmed with recruitments though, if I'll have enough time, I'm surely going to submit a character for consideration!

This actually looks quite interesting; I'm intrigued by the game style. (It certainly does lend itself to neatness in the gameplay thread.) I've actually got a character put together already that may be a good fit.

For the last three years, she's been living and training in combat at a temple of Arshea, after being sent away from home due to a disagreement with her mother. She was led to her new home by a strange new friend, a swan named Torin who comforted her at her forced departure from home and guided her to Arshea's faith and to the temple that became her new home. Some time ago, the temple received a missive from Mendev, asking for crusaders to aid in the fight against the hordes of the Worldwound, and Lena decided to take up the call, with Torin by her side.

Lena is an angel-blooded aasimar chosen one paladin of Arshea, and Torin is her familiar. Swans are not one of the listed familiar possibilities, but they're similar in power to pigs and monkeys stat-wise. I've got the swan's statistics in my character sheet, and he gives Lena a +3 bonus to Diplomacy. (Edit: I'm happy to change to one of the usual suspects as well, if you prefer. The swan's Arshea's sacred animal, though, which is why I went with it.)

She's at level 3 right now, but I'll rebuild her with the extra level and confirm that the point buy is correct over the next day or so. I'll also refine her story a bit - it's there now, but I'll spruce it up, expand on her personality, and find a portrait. I just wanted to get a post in here to express my definite interest in the campaign, and to give you a chance to look over what I've got while I work to improve it.

I've got a ranger running in a midnight mirror campaign at the moment that I'd love to tweak for this. He's a dhampir undead hunter, but I think a few adjustments could change him to a fine human demon hunter. I'll post a full submission asap, the posting length and style is really appealing. I'm new to pbp, but I think this is exactly the kind of thing I'd love to sink my teeth into.

Grand Lodge

Definitely interested. Loving the higher level of role-playing and narrative style you're incorporating. It's exactly what I was wanting from a PbP setting.
I'll have to tweak some character things to get my submission for this all the way ready, but very enthusiastically dotting this.

Great to see that there's interest for this type of game!

Yes, it's a little bit more work but the results are well worth it.

@Lena: I'll look at the stats in detail later today but I didn't see any red flags.

@others: get that fluff written up!

Remember that you are good at 'dealing with demons' and have been selected to be a part of an 'A-team'. You don't need to be great demon fighters (it doesn't hurt) but should be able to contribute in a significant way to this 'team'.

BTW, I expect we'll reach around 10th level when this is all said and done but those are 'high levels' in my world so you'll get a chance to contribute significantly to the eradicate the demon blight.

Other questions?

Game on!

Cool. The fluff about where you need it, or would you like some more?

Lena Variane wrote:

It's about what I'm looking for. I don't want to make the application process too difficult so the application as it stands will be given full consideration.

That being said, I am trying to pick the best roleplayers who are not afraid to write so anything that you can show to convince me of this will be to your advantage.

And you are 4th level so maybe a little bit more of your 'recent background' would be helpful.

I mean, why did she get picked to be part of this 'elite demon hunter unit'?

Got it, thanks! I can vouch for Bantamweight, too; it's my Midnight Mirror game he's playing in now, and doing well. :)

Oh, hey Rennai! Thanks for the vote of confidence! I definitely support Lena's application, as a GM her (his?) posts are always in depth, descriptive and really engaging. Definitely an asset in this type of game, I'm sure :)

So I really like the whole "cursed to hunt your own kind" vibe. How do you feel about a tiefling in this campaign?

Bantamweight wrote:

Tieflings would be fine for this campaign. The bloodrager's bloodline is Abyssal so there's some synergy there.

I'm fine with unusual races, but we may have to play around to make them 'balanced' with regards to the core races (normally 10 race points), but I'm confident we'll figure something out that satisfies everyone involved.

There's a trait from Council of Thieves that's designed to do exactly that (Infernal Bastard). I'd be glad to do something similar for my aasimar if it would set your mind at ease (although I'd ask for at least disguise self 1/day for a spell-like ability, since it's so integral to her story).

EDIT: Actually, I think I prefer her having disguise self 1/day instead of alter self 1/day...can I go ahead and make that change? And I'll go ahead and make the Infernal Bastard-esque change as well, trade out her resistances for +2 to saves v. acid, cold, and electricity. So basically, I'll be using the following created-by-me trait:

Blessing Ignored:
Growing up among others that looked down upon your celestial traits, you learned quickly to suppress the differences between you and others.

Benefit: You lack an aasimar's standard resistances to acid, cold, and electricity - instead, you merely gain +2 to saves against such effects. Likewise, you do not have the 1/day second level spell-like ability customary for aasimar. Instead, you gain either a first level spell 1/day or a zero level spell at will as a spell-like ability.

Yeah, I'm happy to make whatever changes are necessary for the sake of balance. I was hoping to take the soul seer alternate trait. I'm looking at the divine hunter archetype with the knowledge domain, hoping to play my character out as if he's plagued by visions and unnatural sight. Infernal bastard works fine though, I'm not too worried about the mechanics of the race

I really like your game format. You will basically end up with a collaborative novel in the end and that is super cool.

Are you okay if I draw a portrait of my character myself? It's something I often do when creating a character anyway, but I am not the most skilled artist.

Infernal Bastard is a trait as in a half-feat, not a racial trait. It'd still take a little figuring as to how Soul Seer interacted with it.

@Lena and Bantamweight: you are both on the right track. Work on the fluff and be open-minded regarding any mechanics adjustments, and we'll find something agreeable by everyone involved. The idea is not to penalize you for selecting a 'weird race' but rather to balance them out when compared to the other PCs.

So 'fluff' comes first and foremost.

@The Pale King: that's the idea. Every once in a while, I go back and re-read the turn recaps of previous games, and they do read like a collaborative novel (amateur but novel nonetheless). And you may of course draw a portrait of your PC.

@all: If you follow the gameplay thread, you'll notice that the game started (you can read a couple of turn recaps). I'm not sure at this time whether you'll join the existing game or whether we'll start over. I'm leaning towards the first option since I don't want to do away with some pretty decent roleplaying but we'll see.

I have a character concept I have been tossing around for a while, I almost applied with him to another game (I believe you too applied to that campaign Fabian), but it didn't feel quite right. I think he might fit in here, but we shall see.

Basic Backstory:

I was born into a small elven tribe of the Mwangi Expanse. For as long as I knew it had been difficult from decade to decade to gather enough food for everyone, and we only managed because of the large amount of unfortunate deaths that left us with less mouths to feed. When I was young my tribe was taken over by the Ekujae. It was not an overtly violent affair. Only one elf died. Our greatest warrior, our chieftain, my father. It was that duel that decided things, if he had won we would have stayed independent, but it was not to be. My father was known to be one of the greatest fighters on the expanse so it was no simple warrior they sent to face him. The war chieftain of the Ekujae himself fought my father for the future of our tribe. That same chieftain slew my father in front of my eyes after an extended and 'glorious' combat that will likely be remembered by our people for untold centuries to come. I only remember it as the day I lost my path. I will not deny that under the Ekujae we have prospered, life is no longer the struggle it once was. We always have enough food to go around and the number of 'accidental' deaths have fallen greatly, being under the protection of the Ekujae has many perks. But it has not felt like home since that day. Perhaps it is strange that I have kept this bitterness inside of me, no one else of our tribe has and it is not common for my people to hold grudges for so long. It did not go unnoticed, but I was simply pitied for it, perhaps even looked down upon as weak and bizarre. Recently I was 'advised' by the chieftains to leave the tribes for a time, to seek the Brightness and leave my hostility behind.

Not many of my people, -aptly called the wild elves by some- seek the Brightness in the way the other elves of Golarion do, but I have seen those who have found it and I can feel its pull. I believe the chieftains whom I silently disdained have given me the one thing that could melt this bitterness away. Freedom, and a chance. A chance to find who I am. The world outside of Mwangi Expanse is a strange one, the kingdoms of men are not what I expected, but I am adapting quickly. I decided to travel far. Many caravans and many ships took me from the place I should have called home. Ever onwards to somewhere I did not know, but felt so strongly drawn. There is a destiny for me in these lands, just waiting for me to seize it.

From there he would end up in Mendev and find a calling in slaying the denizens of the abyss. Surely there is no truer task than wiping evil from the face of Golarion? No better place to be than surrounded by other men and women also seeking their purpose at the edge of a blade and through the deaths of demons.

The half feat works fluff-wise in place of soul seer (I would just describe an ability to see faint magical auras with detect magic in place of life essence with deathwatch). I'll hold off on finalising the crunch, I'll concentrate on a backstory first and figure the rest out later.

Are you opposed to all 3rd party material?

Ok, my fluff's about where it's going to be. I just need to finish shopping and I should be good to go, although I'll review everything once more to be sure.

Lena came to Mendev two years ago as a conscript in response to a plea for help sent by the crusaders. She was posted on guard duty at one of the more out-of-the-way outposts, but distinguished herself after single-handedly slaying an abrikandilu demon that slipped through the defences. It earned her a promotion, as well as a new assignment on the front-line resupply and reinforcement task force.

Bantamweight here, with my rough draft submission. Introducing Melanthius, a tiefling divine hunter of Sarenrae.

As I said, this is pretty rough and has deviated a little from my first envisioning of the character. I've decided against the 'plagued by strange visions' angle and am leaning more toward the misguided hero . Melanthius has spent less than a decade among the civilised races, so although he won't be much help at a dinner party his upbringing among the denizens of Drezen will hopefully provide an opportunity to enlighten his fellows on demonic behaviours and habits.

Background:
Melanthius suffered as a child. Unwanted and abandoned among the refuse of the streets of Drezen, he was quickly snatched up and traded into slavery. Years of torturous abuse and maltreatment hardened his will, and he longed for a way out of his perpetual hell. Hope came in the form of a vision; an angel with hair of flame and kindness in her eyes. He would later learn that this woman who seemed to only exist in his dreams was Sarenrae, and though she never spoke he knew she offered salvation.

Eventually, the visions led him to a ruined temple of The Dawnflower. During a routine day of foraging among the rubble seeking baubles for his master, he found the object which would lead him to his freedom. Wrapped in a dirty blanket, he uncovered a scimitar of masterful construction. As the young tiefling drew the blade, the dretch overseer tried to snatch it greedily. A blinding flash burst forth from the blade and a voice seemed to whisper to Melanthius; “Go!”. Taking heed, he fled past the blinded demon and into the woods. He ran until his legs could no longer hold his weight, and when he collapsed he began to crawl. It wasn’t until he crossed the West Sellen river that sleep took him.

With nothing but the sword in hand, Melanthius followed the river south for weeks. He foraged whatever food he could find, always looking over his shoulder in case of pursuit. When he finally reached Kenabres, he was fearful of approaching the strange and foreign city. He stayed within the surrounding woods, and before long a routine patrol found him close to death. He had been drifting in and out of consciousness for days, and when he finally awoke he was in Kenabres, at the temple of Sarenrae.

Life among the Sarenites was good to Melanthius. They taught him many things; the common tongue, swordplay, the tenets of their faith and most importantly, kindness. He thrived in his newfound environment, but never truly felt at home. After a few months, he requested to leave in order to make his home outside of the city. And so it was; by day he would attend service and lessons at the temple but by night he was free to roam the wilds. He found solitude among the forest, and the time to reflect taught him much about himself.

Melanthius became an adept hunter, developing his skills both as a faithful member of the church and a hardy warrior. His burning desire to prove himself to the citizens of the town which had saved his life led him to enlist in the crusades, where his skills and knowledge have served him well in the hunt for demonkind. His greatest challenge is yet to come; an assignment to the one of the mobile supply and reinforcement patrol groups.

@Fabian so please hit me with the feedback stick as much as you feel the need to. I'm willing to add as much detail as you recommend, if you could let me know how I'm doing so far though that would be great. I've started on the appearance, personality and crunch, but I really wanted to have the story elements perfect before I nail anything down.

All finished! I'll definitely still be lurking, so let me know if there's anything else you need from me.

Given that I'm not big on uber builds, I think Paizo has plenty of mechanics to fit whatever concept you may have.

What were you thinking?

Here comes the feedback stick! :)

DISCLAIMER: I really enjoy character creation and will get involved with all character submissions BUT this doesn't mean that you will be selected. The truth is that only two characters will get picked, and I'm hoping that I have a few good ones to choose from. So if at any point, you feel that I'm asking too much with no guarantees of being selected, you are, of course, free to ignore my requests and call your PC done.

With that out of the way, I have to say that I really like the start of this PC. It's got redemption theme and nice vibe of a tiefling ruthless hunter.

Questions: will this be an archetype of the the hunter class? If so, you will take an animal companion and you'll have to deal with demon DR so keep that in mind. But you could just be a ranger or some other wilderness class and still call yourself hunter.

Regarding your background, it would seem that the tiefling would be killed on site as soon as it set foot east of the river so you have to think of some way of why he was spared. Why did the patrol take him to the Sarenrae temple and NOT kill him?

Other than that, I'm looking forward to reading some more.

Hey Lena,

Please see my disclaimer above regarding PC feedback.

I also like this PC. Her personality is well defined and she has a unique background. Her gender issues doesn't exactly match the mood I'm thinking for this campaign, but it should not be a hindrance. It's a fantasy world so for someone to chose what gender they are every morning is not that far of a stretch. However, the disguise self has a limited duration so it may not accomplish what you want.

I also saw that you took a trait to downplay your racial abilities and that's not really fair. With regards to racial abilities, what we will do is ask you to 'cut down' the race so that it is equivalent to 10 racial points, but we'll cross that bridge once we get to it. For now, all I need is your understanding that the bridge is there.

The swan is appropriate, but we need to look at its stats. Most familiar don't do much damage and this fellow has three attacks so we need some adjustments there.

Other than that, I'm good with the submission.

If anyone wants, you can write up a little scene to showcase their PC in action but that is totally optional.

DISCLAIMER: I totally understand about not being able to take everyone. Running a game myself, I get that the best problem you can have is too many good submissions. Any work I do on her now is work I can take to another campaign later if she isn't your choice, and I'm really quite addicted to character creation anyway, so I'm having fun even if she doesn't get picked. :)

On to answering concerns!

On the spell-like ability:
Disguise self works for times when she wants/needs a more complete transformation (and it's what sparked her initial exploration), but from day to day it'll usually play out more in choice of dress, possibly mannerisms, that sort of thing - more mundane channels. (That's the reason one of the first magic items she got was sleeves of many garments - it means she's able to carry an infinitely varied wardrobe while on the road battling demons.)

On being the center of attention:
I definitely am not going to insist that the campaign center around her exploration. It's not what defines who she is; it just informs and influences who she is, her faith, why she fights, and all such interesting facets of personality.

(Really, I'm trying to understand the issue more complexly myself, and would honestly appreciate if her character interactions didn't focus solely on her transgenderism. No one's defined solely by gender, and I'm trying to learn more about what that means by playing someone different from me in a realistic, nuanced, multifaceted way. Don't know if I'll succeed, but hopefully the attempt is beneficial regardless.)

On racial options:
I can take a look at the race builder and play with racial options. I want to keep the disguise self spell-like ability for obvious reasons, but pretty much everything else I'm fine with being mutable. (Even just dropping from alter self to disguise self may drop a race point or two; I haven't looked yet.) I just went with the trait since it's the example Paizo's given for bringing an aasimar-like race more in line with the core races - I know it's not the end-all-be-all solution.

On the familiar:
I hadn't thought about the extra wing attacks adding significant power - dropping it to just the bite attack would be totally fine with me. That puts it fairly on par with the pig according to my very back-of-a-napkin comparison. (Again, if you prefer I change to or re-skin another familiar, that's totally fine as well.) I'd like the swan to stay in the fluff, but whatever that looks like in terms of crunch doesn't bother me.

Hopefully this helps to address some of your concerns. Again, totally understand if she's not for this campaign - I'm having a blast with her story regardless. :)

Agreeing with Lena, character creation is just good fun!
Anyway, I've revised Shadrick so he's ready for your consideration. He's an elven skald with a one level dip into the feral hunter archetype of the hunter. Looking forward to reading your feedback.

I'm glad that's everyone's understanding and I do really mean when I say that character creation is one my favorite parts of the game.

I'm fine with the answers, thank you.

Lena is someone who I could see being part of this story so we'll see.

Thanks for your submission. I hope you read the 'disclaimer' above.

A few questions:

- where's the feral hunter in his story?
- why would he picked to be in an elite demon hunting group?

I felt that your PC was very focused on build without having 'story backup' to it (like the maestro of the society trait)

If I was going elven, I would definitely work in the Tanglebriar. The elves have been fighting demons for a very long time so they know a thing or two about doing just that.

In general, the tone of your PC seems a little 'light' whereas I'm going for a more gritty, survival type feel for the game.

These missions will entail interning yourselves into the demon-infested lands, and I just don't see this PC doing that.

Let me know if you have any questions.

** spoiler omitted **...

Thanks for your submission. I read it last night and forgot to give you feedback on it. :(

Your PC reads sort of generic. Yes, he's had a tragic life (show me one adventurer that hasn't) but the backstory doesn't tell me much else.

What role will he fill?
What's he good at?
What does he fear?
Why would he picked as a demon hunter?
How am I going to tie in an elf with a story in the Mwangi Expanse to the Worldwound?

I think if you start answering these questions, your PC will come to its own but he's not there yet.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. I'll review the character build and idea and see if I can make it fit this scenario more effectively. My first thought while reading your comments was that I think I got more caught up in the fun of the skald and didn't portray as much of the depth I saw in the character. I'll either rework this character or try a different entry. Thanks again for the specific feedback!

Duly noted Fabian; I think we all understand it's never a sure thing, but exploring character creation concepts is heaps of fun, and it helps if something similar comes up.

In terms of justifying why my character wasn't killed on sight, would you be Ok with me submitting this information as a journal entry from one of the scouts who found him in the woods?

Mechanically I haven't put too much thought in yet. I was looking at the divine hunter archetype with a celestial dog for a companion (I know he'll be pretty useless in combat, but having him around to help track would be handy) but again, I'm flexible on this. I guess I'll make a firm choice if I'm chosen based on what suits party needs while keeping in line with my backstory.

A journal entry would be fine for why he wasn't killed on sight.

A celestial dog would be far from useless in a fight. A 4th level dog (18 STR) bites for +7 (1d6+6). If you add the power attack feat, it becomes +6 (1d6+9). That's not ideal but should be Ok for DR 5/cold iron or good. If you take 'improved trip, I'll probably let your dog trip as a wolf (melee attack and try trip if it hits).

Oh and it also gets to smite evil (bypass DR) once per day.

So if a celestial dog fits your character concept, it's not too bad from a mechanical POV. A min/maxer would probably laugh at us but it's not that kind of game. :)

Dark Archive

Hi, since some time ago I have been thinking about playing a satyr that has little talent for music and thus is driven to wander around and is more 'civilized'.

Do you have any thoughts about it? (Looking for the fluff aspect of playing a satyr, not the mechanical)

The major problem that I see is his "power level", since he is a monster of CR 4. Looking at the monster advancement rules, it says that to take classes, a monster get some modified stats and na adjustment in his CR if the class in question is favorable or not. My intention is to make him a ranger.

Not being able to use his "pan pipes" would drop his CR from 4 to 3, kind of equivalent in power to a 4th level PC. He would start with no PC class.

Scarab Sages

Decided I like the levity of this character, so I'll just shelf him and wait for a more fitting game for him. I'm working on putting together a new character, but wanted to just double-check that you were okay with a few things. She'll be a sylph. Any issues with the less common races? If I'm reading your comments accurately, the backstory making it logical and interesting is the only real requirement with less common races, but just wanted to make sure I was reading you correctly on that.
Additionally, she'll be an occultist focused on summoning. Will the addition of summoned beasties be viewed as a negative? I just know some GM's are less keen on summoning builds, so I thought I'd double check that it wouldn't be an issue.

A satyr would not be my first choice for a race for this campaign, but, if you write a kick-ass background, motivations, and personality, then I would certainly consider him/her.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if two PCs have similar 'fluff', I would probably go with the core (more common) race.

I'm an easy GM so there shouldn't be a problem reaching something suitable for stats.

Additionally, she'll be an occultist focused on summoning. Will the addition of summoned beasties be viewed as a negative? I just know some GM's are less keen on summoning builds, so I thought I'd double check that it wouldn't be an issue.

Same as for the satyr with regards to race.

Summoning is tricky here as I don;t want my battlefield littered with summoned creatures. What I usually do is allow the summons but only one creature at a time. You can resummon once your 'creature' is gone (killed or otherwise).

So no 1d3 creatures or two summoning spells at the same time.

More questions?

Scarab Sages

Excellent. Per RAW, the occultist can only have 1 summoned creature at a time with their focus power. Since I know it's a plausible character, I'll keep moving forward with character creation. I hope to have her posted sometime tomorrow.

Shadow Lodge

This looks great, I had a game that posted every day, but the GM had to drop us because she had taken on too many responsibilities at work. The group is trying to get another game started, but I'd like to join in this one too as it feels like just the sort of thing I look for in a PbP.

Interested in running a Kineticist, thinking about air/something for focus. Planning on being a mobile ranged attacker with some battlefield control and buffs. I am planning on grabbing Celerity as well, which will free up a spell slot or two for our fair Arcanist. Maybe I'll go Dwarf just to be contrary...

"Can ye nae picture it lads? Ye cannae?? Dwarves can too fly! Ye watch me and bloody say tha' again, then we'll see who's laughin'! You still think tha's funny do ye? Alright, put 'em up, ye lilly-livered snakebiters, we're settlin' this like real Dwarves."

Oh yeah. This is gonna be fun times.

More interesting stuff forthcoming.

Ok, so here is the journal entry for one of the scouts who found Melanthius out in the woods.

Gods above, what have I done? Three weeks ago, I was setting out on a routine patrol. Two days ago I was looking forward to a bath and a hot meal. Today, I find myself in my quarters with a child. I use the term child very loosely; truthfully, I am beginning to grow fond of the little bastard and it feels wrong to continue referring to him as “demon spawn.” We found him out in the woods, half a day’s ride from town and pretty beat up. As I write these very words he is curled up in front of the fire, half of his head wrapped in bandages and his belly bloated from what seemed like the first decent meal he has ever eaten. He is cute, in a horrible sort of way. At first glance I mistook him for a swarthy human, or maybe half-elven child until he set upon me. His face was torn up with claw marks down the right hand side, and half of his ear with it. He was dripping with blood, and screaming all of the abyssal curse words I’ve ever heard. It was the eyes that set him apart though; one look from those acidic green orbs and I knew straight away he was born of the wound. I saw hurt and desperation in those eyes, and I guess that’s when I started feeling sorry for him. He dragged his sword behind him as he ran at us, and took a pretty wild swing at me. A swift kick to the knee sorted him out though, and as he lay there screaming and crying I felt the slightest twinge of pity in my heart. I couldn’t bring myself to stick the poor boy, and leaving him alone and wounded would have been a crueller fate than death. Plus, when Keledor reached down to take the sword from him it flashed brighter than an angel’s halo. He thinks it may be some kind of relic, though it wouldn’t take a genius to figure that out. The hilt of the thing is shaped like Sarenrae herself. I’ll take him down to one of the temples tomorrow, I’m sure the Sarenites will have a place for him.

I've been looking over the crunch which may support my backstory and I'm feeling that maybe the Holy Guide Paladin archetype would suit as well.

Quick hypothetical question: would it be all right for me to submit a second character? I certainly wouldn't expect both or even either to be chosen, but I'm going to have free time and a lot on my mind this weekend, so more character creation sounds like a great idea. (Plus, I like to be able to offer to fill several different niches, depending on what the group may end up needing.)

But I also don't want to steal too much attention from anyone else, so it's completely up to you, Fabian. I completely understand either way. I may end up making the character regardless (again, looking for distraction right now); I just wanted to see if you'd be interested in looking it over once I'm done.

Placeholder post from Me'Mori for a Human Pyrokineticist. Rao Redflame is one of those "Life of the party" types that has decided to go against common sense (because where's the fun in that?), and set out to prove to himself and the demons that they can indeed burn.

To overload on the trope, I'd have liked to make him an Ifrit, but human will do. More to come, of course.

Character attempt #2, Leevanna Voray, sylph occultist focused on summoning. Still a thing or two to tweak, but about 98% where I wanted her to be.

Dark Archive

This is my idea for Ichbalt Branched Horns, a satyr like no other! If you think it might be a good fit to your campaign, I'll continue to develop him.

Background:

Ichbalt Branched Horns was born in the chaos of the First World and, for the most part of his life, it was his home. Ichbalt is a satyr, a fey, and, like all feys, he has no soul, being immortal as long as he stays in the First World. After countless seasons of drinking, feasting and all kinds of pleasures, Ichbalt was caught in one of the unexpected surges of chaotic energy and was ‘spitted’ in Golarion.

For a couple of days Ichbalt was terrified. He was not anymore in the First World and the dangers here would probably kill him. He spent a lot of time looking for a gate back to his world but, in the meantime, like all satyrs, he could not stopping himself from having some fun. The more he looked for a way back to his plane, the more he felt in doubt if he really wanted to go back: the life in the Material World was surely dangerous, but was this that made all the pleasures more meaningful.

Ichbalt was having a pretty good time in Golarion until he found a little satyr and his father. From the woods he watched as the father was giving his pipes to the kid, a moment that all satyrs consider sacred. He looked at his own pipe and realized that he should also look for one of his sons and pass his own pipe, for he was not getting any younger. Tracking down all his former lovers, Ichbalt was shocked to discover that he was never able to sire any satyr: he only had daughters. After a couple of years searching for a son, he discovered thirty-seven daughters.

Astonished, Ichbalt went back to the First World and visited Riftwood, also know as The Bottomless Grove, looking for Magdh, one of the powerful Eldest. It was know that Magdh could see anything. Ichbalt hoped to discover why he could have no sons, but what he saw in the pools of Magdh was complete destruction: He saw the worldwound, the massacre of Mendev and even more, but it paled in comparison with what would come next, since the Eldest were planning to unleash the Tane upon Golarion to stop the demons from ultimate victory. They cared not for all the destruction of Golarion, only for the risk that the abyss would represent to the First World in case of victory.

Ichbalt threw his pipe in the pool and run from Riftwood, grabbed his gear and jumped in the first gate he found, heading for Mendev as soon has he landed in the River Kingdoms. If he had sons, he knew they would be save in the First World, but he could not guarantee the safety of his daughters. There was never much love between the First World and Golarion, but Ichbalt learned to love both and would prefer an eternal death than seeing all his daughters face the demons or the Tane.

Also, if aproved, just a little tweaks with an aasimar as base, we could create a pretty good satyr race.

ON OCCULT CLASSES (this pertains to a few of you)

I know I said I would consider them and I will. However, preference will be given to 'traditional' (non-occult) classes.

It's similar as with 'strange' races. On 'similar' level of fluff, I will select the traditional classes over the occult.

I'm fine with the submittal of a second character. Given the game's characteristics (roleplaying/writing intensive) and that it's not an AP, I don't think I will have a ton of applications to look through and I'm reviewing and ranking as I go so go for it.

The character reads fine although I still read a lot of min/maxing in your crunch.

Read above what my stance is on occult classes and 'strange' races.

Good start although this PC would have a lot more weight if you reskinned his class to a more traditional class (sorceror, silver dragon?).

Thank you for the submission, but I don't think that this PC would be a good fit for the campaign I'm envisioning.

Can you please clarify exactly what you mean by min/maxing? Not everyone uses such terms for the same character aspects, so I just want to make sure I'm refining towards what you want instead of going in completely the wrong direction.
