Dervak can see the rage in Kat's eyes at these words, and says, "One moment. Stand back."
Assuming the party gives him some space, he casts Enlarge Person, Str-rages, and kicks the door down.
Strength, +4 from size to break doors: 1d20 + 9 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 4 = 31
DM_Delmoth |
Unlike most of the combat encounters you've diplomacized away this one actually gives me advice on what happens if you do. I find it funny that they do that after the events in Cassomir. Will have a combat set up in a few hours.
DM_Delmoth |
Dervak lowers his massive shoulder and slams into the door sending it flying open along with the heavy table placed behind the door. This room is in disarray. An alchemist’s lab is set up on one of the tables, and a few of the shelves have been cleared of books. Throughout the room, a chaotic swirl of yellow hues has been painted, daubed, and scratched into the walls, on the spines of books, and across the floor. Not one but two versions of Mun populate this corner of the Mysterium.
Miacknian Mun wears thick layers of soiled clothing. He has wild blonde hair. From behind his glasses, Mun’s beady eyes seem almost ready to pop from his skull. He is lithe and pale, and his body shows signs of recent injury and past self-abuse. His actions are furtive, and his eyes dart about like those of a hunting lizard. The version of Mun in the back of the room has sharp spines protruding from his skin.
The Mun standing near the door when it’s busted down clambers over the table and swipes at Dervak with razor sharp claws, but Dervak able to step back just in time.

Mind-affecting, so "Mun" could be immune.
Kat Brewer |
There's "Mun" too many
Dervak |
Dervak's Init actually drops to a +4 with Enlarge, but I don't think it makes a difference here.
The giant Dervak swings his falchion at "Akie."

I don't think he's used any Destined Strikes today... will start using those on the iteratives next round.
DM_Delmoth |
Oops you're right, that actually puts you after Mun. But that doesn't matter this round.
The mun with the thorn skin drinks something. Dervak slices Akie with a sweeping arc but it does little to slow it down. Cutting through Akie feels like cutting through a mass of rubber, it doesn't bleed nor does it appear to have any discernible organs. Akie is clearly a construct and cares little for Mara's curse.

Snake Style: 1d20 + 29 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 29 + (3) = 37
She takes up a position near Mun and stares him down, flashing a grin that is nothing but bitter and vicious. "Eh, bruv. Been looking for you. You've got a lot to answer for, and I'm here to collect." She spins her spear over her shoulders and swacks his legs out from under him.

As he moves up to her, Kat sees that her position does not offer her many opportunities to keep dancing around him with her spear. That's just fine for her, though. She stands back and upright. "Oh, that how you wanna go, bruv? I can do that." She drops her spear. She cracks her knuckles and sizes him up. "Yeah, I really think I should do this with my bare hands, don't you?" Dervak |
The Mun in the back was described as having spiny skin, so Kat might take some damage hitting him with unarmed strikes. Might be she is just so mad at him that she doesn't care.
Dervak lets Kat handle the other Mun while he fights the construct.

DM_Delmoth |
@Dervak yes, but Kat has clay skin up still I think. Not sure how much damage its absorbed. Then again they're really long and sharp thorns.
Thorn body, piercing: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Thorn body, piercing: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Kat trips the man and then brutally beats him. It feels like she's kicking adamantine spikes. Kat feels like his face should look like a hot-headed mule kicked him but he only looks like he's been in a barroom brawl. Turns out he has DR 10.
Dervak, used to fighting Mun's constructs, tears the one standing in his way to ribbons. It doesn't die per se but it is so badly damaged that it can't move in any meaningful way.

Those two hits take out the last of her clay skin, actually. And yes, she is mad enough at this guy that she doesn't care about getting hurt. Probably not the smartest call atm, but I always hate it when smart characters are smart *all the time*. Nobody is anything all the time imo. What makes people interesting is learning when and why those exceptions happen. Besides, at this moment, she might hate Mun even more than Lowls, which is saying something
I also figure that Dervak is probably gonna come in and start beating on him, too, so might as well have some fun with it!

DM_Delmoth |
Mun will vs Misfortune: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Mun’s eyes go wide when Kat drops her spear in front of him, he quickly scrambles for it and then stands up, ignoring her taunting. Mun’s nose sets itself before Kat’s eyes and he isn’t holding his side as much. Standard: pick up spear, move: stand up, this provokes from Kat twice.
PCs go for bottom of round 3 and top of round 4
Kat Brewer |
Reminder that Kat’s spear is on a weapon cord
Kat shakes her head, disgusted at Mun’s refusal to even give her a decent fight hand-to-hand.
”You really are just a bloody arse all the way through, eh?”
As he reaches for the spear, she snatches for it back.
Disarm (studied combat, haste, heroism): 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 21
That miiiight do it with his prone CMD but in case it doesn’t she’ll use her other AoO for a disarm as well. She doesn’t have improved disarm, so he’ll get an AoO if he has one, which she will then snake style
Disarm (studied combat, haste, heroism): 1d20 + 11 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 4 + 1 + 2 = 36
If by some miracle that first roll was enough, then she’ll forgo the second AoO. She gave him the chance for her to softball him, and he blew it!
Gonna wait to see how all this resolves before I do her actual turn cause it’s a lot of if-thens
DM_Delmoth |
Kat wouldn't be able to disarm on the first provoke because he doesn't have the weapon yet, its the same reason you can't trip someone when they stand up. She can take another attack action using the 3 that she rolled. Disarming Mun would also provoke from Mun if that matters since Kat doesn't have imp. disarm.

Ah gotcha. She’ll take the swipe at him with the first attack and disarm with the second. She’ll still try to disarm it back from him and snake style the AoO if possible. Also I’m not sure how he can even wield it in the first place since it’s still attached to her weapon cord

While Kat and Mun were fighting over the spear, Mara went around behind Kat and attacked the alchemist from the other side, hoping to provide a flank for Dervak. "You won't be doing any more of that kind of 'research'!"
Greataxe, heroism: 1d20 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 3 = 18
Slashing Damage: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Dervak |
Dervak takes a 5' step, uses his Pugnacious trait to increase his reach to 15', and attacks.
Since that is an immediate action it means I cannot use Arcane Strike. But it allows an extra attack this round since I can just 5' step. Will use Destined Strike on the iterative.
Attack, Heroism: 1d20 + 17 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 17 + 3 = 37

Iterative, Destined Strike 1 of 3: 1d20 + 12 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 3 + 5 = 21
Using 1/rage Certain Strike to reroll that.
Iterative, Destined Strike 1 of 3: 1d20 + 12 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 12 + 3 + 5 = 33
Damage: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (1, 5) + 25 = 31
Since he is attacking with 15' reach, does he take damage from the thorns?
DM_Delmoth |
Also I’m not sure how he can even wield it in the first place since it’s still attached to her weapon cord
He's not wielding it, just holding it in one hand but I don't think anything would prevent him from trying to use it if you hadn't disarmed him. The weapon cord only allows you to retrieve a weapon as a move action rather than a standard and prevents the weapon from being more than 5ft from you. By grabbing it Mun has allowed you to attempt to retrieve it as a opportunity action so net win for Kat. Things would get not be covered by the rules if you tried to move away while he was holding it.
Kat punches: 1d3 + 4 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 5 + 6 = 18
Thorn body vs Kat: 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Mun AoO vs Kat's disarm: 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 - 4 = 10
Mun AoO vs Kat's disarm, misfortune: 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 1 - 4 = 9
Kat gives Mun another kick in the head and then manages to grab her spear back as he stands. Mara sneaks around the perimeter while Dervak closes. Mara has little luck penetrating the layers of liquid protections he has imbibed but Dervak's strength punches right through. No thorn damage for Dervak, but he is still dealing with DR/???.
Time for Kat's action proper. Which I will assume entails a full attack with her spear.
Kat Brewer |
With her spear back in her hands, Kat takes a step back and scowls at him, the side of her lip turning up in absolute disgust.
"By the way? That kitchen wench you were whining and moaning about? She's why you're going to die. Ain't that funny? Bloody barrel of laughs, I say. Make you feel like you've got needles in your stomach."
She thrusts towards his stomach, knowing that injuries to that area are among the most painful.
Primary Attack with +1 Adamantine Longspear (studied combat, heroism, haste, power attack): 1d20 + 13 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 24
Primary Damage (studied combat, power attack): 1d8 + 7 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 5 + 6 = 24
She pulls back, pauses, then suddenly jumps forward again with another thrust, hoping he feels every bit of it.
Haste Attack with +1 Adamantine Longspear (studied combat, heroism, haste, power attack): 1d20 + 13 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 13 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 34
Haste Damage (studied combat, power attack): 1d8 + 7 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 5 + 6 = 23
And then once more before he can react, another needle in the gut.
Secondary Attack with +1 Adamantine Longspear (studied combat, heroism, haste, power attack): 1d20 + 8 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 22
Fortune Second Roll (take the higher): 1d20 + 8 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 31
Secondary Damage (studied combat, power attack): 1d8 + 7 + 5 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 5 + 6 = 23
If the third attack hits, she will use studied strike on it
Studied Strike: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5) = 15
DM_Delmoth |
Kat brutally disembowels Mun, her spear sharp enough to cut through stone. He sputters and coughs up blood before the light of his crazed eyes goes out forever.
combat over. I'll get loot up later today.
Dervak |
Dervak end his Rage and looks at the carnage.
Gorum would be pleased. But I think Kat's motivation was more the domain of Calistria. Vengeance.
As the party looks over Mun's remains, Dervak says, "When we are done here, should we go around the corridor to the other side of this wall? I think there is one more area we have not explored. Might want to make use of my giant size while we have it."

Kat is still breathing heavily through her nose as she stares at the dead Mun. All this in the name of what he called "science." B#*@$&*s. This was all about him just getting to do whatever he wanted. His bloody ego.

Dervak |
Dervak catches his breath in the time that Mara is healing Kat, and is ready to continue.
Well, needed 6 rounds, the wand was 5, but close enough. And we still have to loot.
DM_Delmoth |
Mara is certain that the Mun that Kat killed was human or an incredibly good fake. Not discounting the possibility of a clone or something similar.
Mun's Formula book: A loose collection of formulae held withing a wood-backed cover bound in a strange skin. It includes the following formulae: Cure critical wounds, cure serious wounds, cure light wounds, darkvision, elemental touch, invisibility, remove disease, resinous skin, restoration, skinsend, arcane eye, freedom of movement, stoneskin, displacement, haste, thorn body, barkskin, bull's strength, cat's grace, resist energy, disguise self, expeditious retreat, longshot, polypurpose panacea, shield, stone fist. I took the liberty of putting that on Kat's sheet since she'll very likely want it.
The other items on Mun and in the room: An alchemist's laboratory, a lacquered fan depicting soldiers fighting demonic cockerels, a paperweight that shows a black rose held aloft by a trio of devil's coach horses, wand of make whole (9 charges), mwk leather armor, mwk chain shirt, returning club, 5gp.
Laying on top of the set up alchemist's lab is a map of Katheer.

Dervak |
Dervak looks at the paperweight and tries to determine if it has any significance. Does it represent anything he recalls from a story or legend? Is it religious in nature? Or just some artist's whimsy?
He will use another charge of Shield when the party is ready to move around down the corridor to the remaining unexplored area.
Wand now at 35. He had cast a 10-minute Shield from a spell slot, but then we explored all the 1st-floor classrooms before coming back down here.
Kat Brewer |
Which knowledge(s) would it be to recognize the scene on the fan and the symbology on the paperweight?
And yes, she is going to very much enjoy that formula book! Some really good stuff there. And given that a lot them are stuff that would be most useful to share, looking like taking Infusion next level is all the more likely!
Kat scowls as she begins to suspect what the formula book may be made out of. She makes sure to not put it in the same section of her haversack as Mari's jar. "Yep, let's get on with it, then."
DM_Delmoth |
Kat examines the art objects carefully and notes the maker's mark, Chesme. She doesn't know the artist but does know the works are quite good and would fetch a fair price to an art collector. The meaning behind the depictions don't bubble to the surface of her mind immediately. If this is a reference to something in particular I don’t understand it and the AP is silent. If you understand it as a reference feel free to add in the details, or just make something up!
The party ventures to the only place they haven’t explored on this level of the mysterium. Knocked-over shelves are stacked upon one another as a makeshift barricade preventing entrance to the final chamber. It stands 8 ft high, but Dervak easily looks over the top. The inside of this room is utter chaos. Shelves are torn from the walls, books are shredded, and the place smells of nervous sweat and human waste. Six guards huddle in the room clearly distraught and sickened by the horrors here. One yells out in Kelish spying the out of proportion bloodrager, ”Go away!”

Diplomacy, heroism: 1d20 + 14 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 14 + 3 = 23
Dervak |
Dervak looks over the barrier with some curiosity. He does not try to look threatening, and replies in Kelish.
"Yeah. We've cleared a path for you. Killed a lot of nasty stuff. Those damn Hounds, probably the most helpful for you. I broke the mirror.
Are any of you hurt?"
DM_Delmoth |
Arcane words form around the guard's lips and a golden ray of fire scorches the wall near Dervak's head, a warning shot.
Dervak |
Dervak sighs, sits down on the other side of the barricade, and tries to talk.
"Look... we are here to help. If you want to leave this place now, we can escort you out. It should be safe.
If you want to stay here until we've reset the wards, and then leave, you can do so. But that's not going to be for quite a while. It would be better to come now.
I swear to you that we bear you no ill will. We are here to help.
Elder Thyrr would be pleased if we could bring you safely out. Is Elder Lythiin with you?"
Diplomacy, Heroism: 1d20 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 3 = 30
DM_Delmoth |
The voice becomes a bit more deranged, "Stop it! We're not falling for your trickery. You want to find the Elder he's not here, he abandoned us knowing that Khorvash would dissolve and attack us. He's probably dead on a lower level."
Theophilus Carter |
Theophilus shakes his head sadly.
Do you remember that time--way back when--we were at the Asylum; and we first confronted those nice, but really scared folks, who eventually we became friends with? This is like that.
Dervak |
Dervak nods.
"Well I tried.
Maybe these folks will survive until we can reset the wards."
Ready to go back to Mun's room and call it a night. Or press on.
