From what Mara can glean the ooze has infested Theo. His body is slowly being destabilized and Mara suspects that he will eventually become one of those oozes eventually. She sees no natural way to prevent the infection. Theo will eventually die unless he receives magical intervention. It's like a disease but can't be cured by making daily saves.

Okay, so for Dervak that is Long Arm and Shield. He will probably re-up Shield from the wand before moving on again.

"Mara, should we search more of this level for other dangers before proceeding more? We probably should have done that in the level above. I don't want us to be trapped on our way out of here."

Dervak you should assume that shield from a wand goes away after combat. Combat usually takes around half a minute and then recovery from that is the other half. Generally when you're investigating a room it will take a minute. I'm growing to hate tracking time for buffs and would rather durations move at the speed of plot. That is 1 encounter, 1 exploration, etc.

Yes, that is what I assume. He's got a lot more wand charges than he has 1st-level spell slots, so happy to keep re-upping Shield as needed.

Can we still do heal checks to help him make his saves? My thinking is that it won't cure the disease, but we can at least keep him from failing the saves and letting it progress more

Yes. But he will eventually roll a one and take 1d4 con drain. Which won't be curable until the condition is removed. Kat knows the method, it was in the monster lore earlier. Likely the party is incapable of performing it without Mara redoing her memorized spells.

Oh I got that part. I am just sure that we can't do anything until Mara changes out her spells, so he's gonna have to make at least one more save before then

Mara advised the Hatter on precautions to slow the progression of the infestation, and treated him as best she could.

Everyone sees in their minds a vision of disturbing and disgusting mass of pulsing writhing fungal blooms and sickly tendrils reaching out to caress you. You hear a guttural and airy voice utter the name Xhamen-Dor. Everyone realizes the danger and manages to push the vision and name out of your minds before you become infected with the knowledge of it.

Kat glances around expectantly for a few moments, worried that the haunt has had some unseen effect on her and her allies. She finally calms as everyone seems to be okay. She dusts off and takes a quick look over the area before moving on, not wanting to linger long enough for the haunt to get another go of it.

"More like 'Xhamen-Dork' if you ask me."
