["Well if we're only going to lose eventually anyway, you might as well give us the scoop on what is going to happen. "
"As we speak, Kyuss' general amasses his undead army to await the appearance of Kyuss in your world as the Age of Worms is but weeks away. And you wish to know his general?" The tiefling smiles as his eyes continue to scan each of you for your reactions, "I guess there is no harm. Either you die or I die today. It is none other than Dragotha, former mighty red dragon and the first ever dracolich and former consort of Tiamat! Even if you defeat me, your might will never equal his. I die happy that there is no preventing the Age of Worms!" He pauses for effect, stretches his back, then continues. "Well, you and I have learned all we can. I think it is time...there is no stopping destiny, let's have it!"
6 rounds have passed in game time, while you were talking.
Initiative:
Elise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Kaydanna: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Oreana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Ravarel: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Siggut: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Kilros: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Round 1:
Kilros moves so fast, before any of you can even react, as if he could predict your movements. He flies effortlessly 30' up, his multiple images and eyes scanning the party and pondering decisions in milliseconds. "Seems none of you, except the wizard, can fly. Bad tactical decision, if you don't mind me saying. Now, every good unit is only as strong as its healer. So, the quiet priest has got to go....for now."
The tiefling spouts arcane incantations and waves his hand at Elise. There is a tear in the fabric of reality next to the cleric and she gets sucked in and disappears from sight! Ravarel recognizes the spell as Maze. Elise appears in an extradimensional labyrinth, alone, the walls appearing to shift and confound the cleric.
Party is up! No Air Walk and only Ravarel can fly. Elise may try a DC 20 Intelligence check (or natural 20 in her case) as a full-round action. Kilros has 8 images and himself (total: 9), is 30' up and 50' away from the party, and 58' on the diagonal. Remember if you do manage to fly, you fly up at half speed.

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

Oreana draws her scroll of flying and casts the scribed spell.
GM, Oreana's divine bond lasts for 13 minutes and she used it during the fight with the big worm... it looks like we wasted no time so far so I'd like to know if it is still up.

Ravarel Darkwood |

does Kaydanna have any means of flying? Scroll or potion? If not I can use my arcane bond 1/day spell to cast FLY. If not needed I'll save it to cast a Greater Dispel Magic on the Prophet at some point
@DL if this could be considered metagaming let me know and Rav will cast fly on Kaydanna this round regardless of any input from Kaydanna unless she obviously starts flying before Rav can act as she is ahead of Rav in the initiative order

Elise Sunwake |

sry folks im on vacation so posting is limited.. Looks thats fine with me needing a 20 so..
1d20 ⇒ 7 nope..

Ravarel Darkwood |

sry folks im on vacation so posting is limited.. Looks thats fine with me needing a 20 so..
1d20 nope..
enjoy the vacation...looks like Elise will be out of this fight...Hope we're still alive when she figures her way out of that Maze

Kaydanna Krysstalla |

no flight for Kaydanna, i guess she can buff folks until the foe is in reach...
Kaydanna spends a fervor to cast Death Ward on herself as a swift action and then casts Death Ward on anyone else who needs it as her standard action...

Ravarel Darkwood |

Rav casts Fly upon Kaydanna using his 1/day spell from his arcane bond
After that he uses 4 charges from his staff to add Quicken to a Ward Shield spell which he applies to his buckler. Spending 1pt from his Arcanist reservoir to increase caster lvl by 2
Rav and all of his images then fly away from the group to the side of the room creating space so that he can't be caught in an AOE centered on the group
Ravarel now has SR 24. not very intimidating for a high level wizard... But better than nothing
Arcane bond spell 0/1
Arcanist reservoir 10/15
4th-Level spells 3/5
Staff charges 4/10

Kaydanna Krysstalla |

well then
Once given the gift of flight Kay will use a quicken blessing to holy her sword and advance towards the foe with her sword...
BS1+PA+FF: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29...DMG: 1d10 + 19 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 19 + (6) = 30
"Bring Elise back NOW!"

Death-Lok |

Kaydanna, you cannot charge and you move at half speed flying up (30 ft per round), so I will say you double move up to the wizard but no attack.
Round 2: Kilros
The tiefling smiles at the warpriest, "You are cute, but you are not the danger here. The elf mage and his helpfulness is getting annoying. Time to take care of him."
Kilros flies 20' away from Kaydanna, provoking an AoO (we will use Kaydanna's prior attack roll and roll to see if it hims him or an image: 1d9 ⇒ 6...he is always the maximum on the die, so the blow takes out an image, leaving 8.
Now that he is safely away from the warpriest, the tiefling spews more incantations and directs the magic at the mage!
Spell resistance check: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35...Success!
Ravarel, you recognize the magic immediately, as you determine that Kilros is trying to turn you to stone! As the magic hits you, you immediately realize it is altered by metamagic and very powerful. Please make 3 Fortitude Saves; I will explain why so many afterwards as it just speeds up the results.

Ravarel Darkwood |

fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Please make sure no pigeons s@$@ on my statue!
oh well. I knew there was only a small chance that Ward Shield would have any effect vs this high level caster. But it was worth a shot. 3 saves OUCH...Penetrating metamagic plus?
sorry guys...my bad for not spending some gold on scrolls of Rope Trick etc...Ideally I'd have put up a Wall of Force, then a Ropetrick where we'd hide out till Elise could find her way out of the Maze and then we could resume the attack full force. Alas, hindsight 20/20
Khepresh of Refuge
Source Pathfinder #84: Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh pg. 61 (Amazon)
Aura strong abjuration; CL 15th
Slot head; Price 63,000 gp; Weight 3 lbs.
Description
This traditional Osirian crown—known as a khepresh, or “war crown”—made of hardened blue leather and adorned with discs of blue-tinted electrum and a rearing, hooded cobra of gold, was crafted specifically for the Sky Pharaoh Hakotep I. The khepresh of refuge grants its wearer a +3 deflection bonus to AC and fire resistance 10. In addition, the crown has 3 charges per day. When struck by a critical hit or sneak attack, the wearer can spend 1 charge as an immediate action to negate the critical hit or sneak attack (as the fortification armor special ability, but without requiring a roll). The damage is instead rolled normally. Alternatively, the wearer can spend 1 charge as an immediate action to reroll a failed saving throw. He must take the result of the reroll, even if it’s worse.
Construction
Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, moment of prescience, resist energy, shield of faith; Cost 31,500 gp

Death-Lok |

The reason for the 3 saves was that the spell has persistent metamagic requiring 2 saves. You failed the first one, use your Fate Point to reroll the save successfully but the second save failed, so alas Ravarel turns to stone.
Ravarel tries to resist but the force of the tiefling's magic is too much and he petrifies into a statue. "Three against one is better odds."
Siggut and Oreanna can double move and surround the wizard but no attacks. Kay can move and attack. Elise can roll Intelligence check.

Kaydanna Krysstalla |

Kaydanna continues to fly awkwardly at the foe and swings her blade when she gets in range using a fervor to cast Divine Power as a swift action...
BS1+PA+FF+Buffs: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 16 + 4 = 35...DMG: 1d10 + 19 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 19 + 4 + (6) = 31

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

Death-lok, I've searched the boards and it looks like Oreana can use Smite Evil against the wizard even if he doesn't know which is him, meaning that he would not waste a smite if he hits a image first... do you agree with this ruling?

Ravarel Darkwood |

the casters are SOL...hope you melee brutes can chase this guy down

Elise Sunwake |

Ok sorry folks but its been a busy weekend for me. I have time to post finally though.. My 1st round in the maze I had a spell to cast that I forgot about called Cleromancy. She will cast it 2nd round to try and help her get out of the maze..
Link to Spell You can also see that it was indeed on my spells for the day..
Rolls: 13d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 3, 2, 1, 4, 4, 2, 4, 3, 2, 1) = 35 Ill choose the 4's
Round 2 Maze Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Another 7 really? 4 more rounds of the +4
If you're ok with it will roll the next 4 rounds to determine if the +4 will get her out without a 20..
4d20 ⇒ (11, 2, 19, 3) = 35
Looks like the 5th round in she would roll good enough and would still have 1 +4 left..

Death-Lok |

Actually, Elise, casting the spell is a full-round action, so that is your action in Round 2 (no maze roll). So at the end of Round 6, you will get out and can act in Round 7.
1d8 ⇒ 1
Kaydanna's attack this round strikes an image; leaving 7.
Siggut and Oreanna fly up to the mage and the 3 warriors surround the mage.
Round 3:
Cast defensively: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (14) + 27 = 41 vs. DC of 35 (adding +4 for Siggut's disruptive feat...success
Despite being surrounded, the tiefling's will is so strong that he is able to cast defensively without having his magic interrupted, and he focuses his magic on Oreanna.
3 Fort saves Oreanna, so you use a Fate point in case you fail either of the first 2.

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

Crap... looks like this site ate my last post where I drew my longbow and shot the mage... Are you ok for me to do this? Oreana would not be surround the mage but would be able to eat 3 illusions/round. I'll roll the saves now, since this is my first post after you requested them but will wait your answer regarding the last action to properly act this round.
Fortitude Save DC ?: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (19) + 21 = 40 +4 vs. death effects, +2 vs. energy drain, negative energy or necromancy spells
Fortitude Save DC ?: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (15) + 21 = 36 +4 vs. death effects, +2 vs. energy drain, negative energy or necromancy spells
Fortitude Save DC ?: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31 +4 vs. death effects, +2 vs. energy drain, negative energy or necromancy spells

![]() |

Assuming we're up now, I will use shatterspell to pop the mirror image.
Spell Sunder from barbarian rage powers is what describes how this works.
(on a sunder check, you get all relevant bonuses from the weapon you use, so focus, training, and enhancement all apply)
sunder: 1d20 + 18 + 2 + 2 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 18 + 2 + 2 + 5 + 1 = 36

Death-Lok |

Crap... looks like this site ate my last post where I drew my longbow and shot the mage... Are you ok for me to do this? Oreana would not be surround the mage but would be able to eat 3 illusions/round. [dice=Fortitude Save DC ?]1d20+21 +4 vs. death effects, +2 vs. energy drain, negative energy or necromancy spells
[dice=Fortitude Save DC ?]1d20+21 +4 vs. death effects, +2 vs. energy drain, negative energy or necromancy spells
[dice=Fortitude Save DC ?]1d20+21 +4 vs. death effects, +2 vs. energy drain, negative energy or necromancy spells
Oreana, first you would drop your long sword and shield as free actions, draw bow as a move action and get one shot, which you can post. Your first two saves were successful, so you did not expend your Fate point.

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

You are right, GM... completely forgot how cumbersome is to change weapons when you have a shield... Oreana will then do as you said, double moving towards the wizard. Are we within reach of the wizard and his copies?

Death-Lok |

Siggut resists the magic initially, but the spell's insistence overcomes the dwarf's natural magic resistance and he petrifies in mid-air!
That was his other 8th level slot, so pretty powerful spell!
Kaydanna and Oreana have the mage surrounded and flanked, if they take 5' steps, but there are still 6 images and the real wizard (for a total of 7) to contend with. If you're going to roll the image chance of hitting, remember, he is the maximum number on the die.
Oreana and Kaydanna are up, as it is now 2 vs. 1!

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

Looks like we are pretty much screwed... Oreana could try to teleport everyone out but we'd need to be touching each other and Elise would be left behind...
Her rage boiling inside her, Oreana strikes the wizard, hoping to kill him before he is able to harm anymore of her companions.

Kaydanna Krysstalla |

Kaydanna moves to flank with the Paladin...doing a full round on the foe...
assuming Oreanas attacks hit and destroyed an image
BS1+PA+FF: 1d20 + 16 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 16 + 4 + 2 = 33...DMG: 1d10 + 19 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 19 + 4 + (4) = 35

Image: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Ravarel Darkwood |

psssst....Kay don't you have a 3rd attack from Divine Power?
cheering stone-faced from the sidelines

Death-Lok |

Kaydanna's last attack targets the real tiefling, but his armor and force effects deflect the blow before it lands.
Round 4: Kilros
"Time to even the odds." Kilros smiles as his ring flashes for a second and he starts casting magic.
Casting defensively (he uses "7" as his roll): 34 vs. DC 31...success!
The wizard finishes his incantation and smiles at Oreana as she disappears from the fabric of reality, similar to how Elise vanished. She reappears in a complicated labyrinth! :)
Kilros smiles at Kaydanna, "Just you and me now, honey." He then flies 20' away from Kaydanna, provoking AoO.
Two images still left: image and the real one.
Kaydanna, you have an AoO and then your action.
Oreana, Intelligence DC 20 checks to get out.

Oreana Del'Aandarth |

Oreana screams in frustration once she sees herself trapped away from her battle. "There is no time to waste... Heironeous, guide me to my companions... I beg you my Lord..." The paladin wanders, trying to find a way out.
Intelligence DC 20: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Kaydanna Krysstalla |

AoO: 1d20 + 16 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 16 + 4 + 2 = 34...DMG: 1d10 + 19 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 19 + 4 + (1) = 28
Image: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Kaydanna uses a quicken blessing to summon a Bralani Azata as a companion as a swift action... instructing the Bralani to shoot at the foe..
Lightning bolt: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
DMG: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 1, 4, 1) = 18 REF save vs DC15 for 1/2
Image: 1d2 ⇒ 1 if still needed
Kaydana flies to strike at the foe again...
AoO: 1d20 + 16 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 16 + 4 + 2 = 23...DMG: 1d10 + 19 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 19 + 4 + (3) = 31

Ravarel Darkwood |

Houston we have a problem! I truly hope we get lucky and Oreana miraculously escapes the Maze the same round as Elise.

Elise Sunwake |

Thats 4 8th level spells.. You kinda built this encounter as a no win man..

Elise Sunwake |

Man i didnt mean to derail.. Maybe we can still pull this off.

Death-Lok |

Sorry guys, I was out for the weekend. Back to the action...
Kay's AoO hits the last image.
The Bralani's lightning bolt does not faze the mage.
Kay charges the mage but the sword almost slips from her hand and she awkwardly misses.
Round 5:
"I got lucky there warrior, you could have struck me. Time to end your threat."
The tiefling steps back 5' and casts magic, auto-making Concentration check.
3 Fort saves, Kay.
