Praetus belly crawls to end near the Tech-Priest.

His zeal is to be commended, but suicidal last stands where not the job of the Adeptus Mechanicus

"Brother Vaughan, what is your command?"

From behind cover, Vasyl speaks clearly but quickly into the microbead:

"They should be going off any time now!"

I'm certain that I judged the time right. It's a simple detonator. Could the tech-priest have fiddled with it? Or Praetus? Seems unlikely but I'd better make plans in case this all goes to hell.

There was a faint thud from the heavy transport as the explosives detonated, sending a brief scream of static through combeads and voxcasters as the tainted machine spirit was vaporised along with the corrupted equipment behind it.

The explosion blew out some of the ships power network, causing one of the heavy turrets on its side to erupt in an explosion of metal and crackling power, showering the advancing troops with shards of ceramite and hull fragments. Although it was difficult to say how much damage it caused, and how badly wounded they were likely to be, it certainly forced the plant-tainted troops to pause and take cover.

The acolytes withdrew to the tunnels without futher trouble, although no doubt trouble would soon follow.

Assuming Vasyl is correct, how close is the primary reactor to here? Is this the primary reactor for the Hive City or something else? Basically would our characters think they could have a chance of stopping this?

Male. Mostly. Human. Mostly. Archaeologist

May I suggest a Tech-Use or Low Gothic roll to try and decipher more of the message? There are several heavy duty reactors within the hive, as Hieronymous would know, that run the the power for that section of the Hive.
The closest one to the attack site is two levels below the Mechanicaus shrine, and therefore reasonably close to your location if you can navigate the tunnels.

While the others crowded and worked, Aenarius cautiously kept his shotgun trained behind them, to ensure that the others could do this safely. Being the rear guard wasn't exactly the safest of occupations, especially as they were looking to flee from a thematically appropriate explosion...but someone had to do it. he just hoped that the others would work quickly.

Magos, how far is this reactor and would you potentially be able to stabilize it if we can reach it? And I know little of such things, but I trust the loss of this reactor would take months, if not years, to recover from?"

The Atmospheric processing facilities are on the edge of the Hive's structures, a level down. Without first-hand knowledge, it might be impossible to repair them.

Roll once, and open up all the spoilers to your best success.

Tech Use (Routine +20):
Shutting down the facility and sending its wounded machine spirits to sleep untilt the proper rituals to tend to them can be performed is a relatively simple process, and shouldn't be too hard.

Tech Use (Ordinary +10):
The reactor is a smaller one, and even if its machine spirit was tormented into overload, would only do moderate damage to the Hive as a whole.

Tech Use (Challening +0):
The fact they're attacking the processor, rather than a larger, more powerful generatorium suggest that they want to use the Atmospheric system to pump something into the hive.

Alternatively, exiting the Hive has several choices. Exacuating the shuttle port, where no doubt the efforts will be most focused, mean climbing several levels but they are unlikely to be too heavily fought over by either side.

Heading down and finding a vehicle to drive out is another option. Since this is a relatively small hive on an Imperial world, the area around the Hive is actually used to grow food under normal conditions, and the road ways to Primaris should be viable.

The advance to the atmospheric facility was a relatively simple one, leading the Acolytes out onto a balcony on the upper reaches of a large cavern within the skin of the hive itself. Below the plant itself sits, the hum of machines at there dedicated task loud enough to make the metal of the gantry vibrate with there song.

In the wall itself, however, holes have been smashed and what looks at first glance like a giant seed pod sits among the debris of the facility. A closer glance shows it to be a plant encrusted drop of twisted but ancient design, although how such plants could survive the screaming descent of an Astartes drop pod staggers the mind.

The hiss and crack of bolters and the ionizing snap of lasgun fire suggests you are neither the only ones nor the first ones to ignore the orders to retreat. The ladder leading down to the facility looks sound enough, but exposed.
