Introduction

This is the Kingmaker Campaign, yet it is filled with many deviations from the boxed set. The "Campaign Information" page is meant as a quick resource to help sum up the thousands of posts quickly.

GM, is Dior stunned within the cocoon in the middle of the web or is he able to bite or claw his way through the tight thread?

You aren't sure - but he hasn't moved since you got here - you fear he may even be dead - but pray he is not!

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Air Elementals 1 & 2 have now vanished back to their own plane. Air Elemental 3 remains, flanking with Anuk-su.

How far is the spider from the centre of the web where Dior is?

Hard to say - the spider itself is Gargantuan - let me put up what that means exactly - here...

Uh... not good

The webbing is vast - and you have seen several "cocoons" in it - not just Dior - the spider itself takes up a "square" 20x20 feet - and has a 20 foot reach beyond that - - so it is kind of hard to tell at this time...

But you think he is roughly 15 feet from Dior - maybe...

The entire mass of stalagtites are criss-crossed with spiderwebs though - one false move can set the whole thing up in ashes - and, even worse - the stalagmites underneath - well - if you cut Dior loose - he'll fall down about 50 feet onto rock spikes!

Not a good place to be right now...

Still waiting on Arsinian...

M Human Bard (arcane duelist) 1

So Ry doesn't have to stay within 40 feet of the summons, they just appear within that distance, but can fly all over the place.

also dang, they may have landed a couple more attacks if they'd been swinging with proper stats. dang.

Arsinian starts inspire courage. So +1 to attack and damage for all!

Brett is still reloading -
Ryul is holding action -
Anuk-su maintains flank with remaining elemental -

Ariarh is UP

And then Mak Morn is holding action -
And Ironhorse will shoot -
Followed by Dire -
Then THE SPIDER
And finally - Arsinian!

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh is casting again (Summon Nature's Ally II).

The new air elemental (she was summoning last round) has appeared and Ariarh directs it toward the gargantuan spider (it moves close to Anuk-su (but not so near it hurts her accidentally), so it can replace her if need be for flanking purposes if it survives to next round).

Slam Attack by Air Elemental 3 (flanking with Anuk-su):

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 = 22
Damage, if hit: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Slam Attack by New Air Elemental (#4):

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage, if hit: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male commoner 1

you forgot arsinian's inspire courag bonus of +1

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Oops, so I did! Thanks for the reminder, Arsinian.

So, Air Elemental 3's attack is 23 and damage 5, after +1 bonus to both.

Dire fires off one more shot after retrieving his bow yet again. Touching that wall must have really did a number on his hands.

To-hit +51d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 for 1d6 ⇒ 3 if it hits.

After taking the shot, Dire says to Ariarh, "Any chance those air spirits you conjured up can get your griffon down? If so we could just burn the webs and dump that damn spider down here to us! Probably crack his skull too if he fell!"

Henry Ironhorse takes a shot!

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

IF he hits –
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Note – because this creature is so darn big – you don’t need to worry about hitting your companions who may or may not be in melee.

Wait!

I forgot - because of Arsinian's bonus - Ironhorse gains a +1 to hit and damage - which means he now hits for 11 damage!

I should add - Ariarh's elementals have hit - though Dire missed.

Now - along came a spider...

And I know - that was totally lame!

The spider rushes past the elementals - pushing forward to the group in the web. It is then going to make an Acrobatics Check so it can jump and land on - or in front of - the party. It will attempt an "Acrobatics" roll to lose a 1d6 of damage from the fall - but depending on its jump - I may either smoosh the party - or not.

Acrobatics Check to soften the blow of the damage – no skill ranks – just raw Dexterity here.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Acrobatics Check to jump forward toward the party and squish them.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Damage it takes for falling the 40 feet – it takes 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) = 7 of damage - as it managed to soften the first 1d6 damage with acrobatics.

The Spider is now considered Prone to you all. But it is now only 20 feet from you – and 5 feet from Brett!

Let me know what – if anything – you do.

Arsinian – you’re now up. Then – top of the round.

Oh yeah - the 3 remaining air elementals - and Anuk-su - all get an AoO as it leaves their space.

However - Anuk-su is doing nothing but trying to offer some flanking at this time.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

There are only two air elementals (3&4) at this time and a new elemental is appearing this round but I haven't said which variety it is. ;)

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Air Elemental 3's AoO (flanking with Anuk-su):

Slam Attack on spider:1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 28
Damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6

Air Elemental 4's AoO:

Slam Attack on spider: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Ariarh Kane wrote:

You had two to begin with - both air - then I thought you just summoned in another set of two that popped up this round to also flank with Anuk-su - which would be 3 total - since one of them had been killed.

Remember - Kae played you for a bit - and had you summon them earlier - however - I may have miscounted...

Was it really only two? If so - remember - the spider did crush the crap out of one (vaporized...)

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

The spider crushed two air elementals (1 & 2) and they both vanished back to their own plane. I had two other air elementals in play last round (3 & 4) and was casting for a new one (5) to maneuver this round. Does the brand new elemental (5) get an AoO?

To-hit +51d20+5 for d6 if it hits.

After taking the shot, Dire says to Ariarh, "Any chance those air spirits you conjured up can get your griffon down? If so we could just burn the webs and dump that damn spider down here to us! Probably crack his skull too if he fell!"

why are you shooting at a +5? don't you have a +11 to hit usually? you spend a move action to pick it up your bot, then take your standard action to shoot , and you get a +1 to hit and damage from Arsinian's bardic performance...

M Human Bard (arcane duelist) 1

Arsinian maintains performance as a swift action, readies an action to shoot it as it stands so it no longer has a penalty for shooting a prone foe, and takes a 5' step back as a non-action

his attack will be
1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 8
for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Ariarh Kane wrote:

Air Elemental 3's AoO (flanking with Anuk-su):

Damage: 1d4+3+1

Air Elemental 4's AoO:

Slam Attack on prone spider: 1d20+6
Damage: 1d4+3

Also remember - the spider isn't prone until AFTER it takes falling damage. Whenever you suffer damage from a fall - the next round you are prone!

However - it wouldn't have mattered - and your little beastie still smacked the crap out of that thing...

All we're doing now is waiting on Arsinian!

Oh - just for fun - Anuk-su was "holding action" - she is now moving behind the spider to offer flanking - however - to do so means she will have to try to avoid the spikey-spikes on it with a Reflex Save - so...

Anuk-su's Reflex Save -
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Huzzah for Anuk-su - and now Arsinian has Flanking bonuses on hims!

Arsinian Wells wrote:

Arsinian - as you have moved - even away from the spider - I need you to toss up a Reflex save to avoid getting "pricked" on the way from it.

I know - it's stupid - you're taking a 5 foot step back from it - but the spikes are the issue.

You can't move in/or through them - without making the Reflex save - in this case - 22.

Ah yeah I misunderstood. I'll have it right next time. Also if this thing is now on the ground, I'll head over there drawing swords to stick it.

Erdane Winthrope wrote:

No need to head over there - you are now twenty feet from it!

As soon as Arsinian taps in - the new round starts.

Arsinian is now "Nauseated" for 1d6 ⇒ 3 rounds.

Arsinian Wells wrote:

reflex save1d20+6

To all -

Wait - no - I read it wrong. You are NOT nauseated - at all.

Here is the ruling - via the book -

A creature that attacks a giant tarantula with a non-reach melee weapon must make a DC 22 Reflex save to avoid being struck by these hairs. The save DC is Con-based.

You did not do that - you are okay - you are free of the stuff and are able to make your move after you stepped back...

M Human Bard (arcane duelist) 1

the Arsinian steps back, and misses the spider like i rolled... big surprise there...
but yay, he not nausiated!!!

Okay – top of the round – Brett is 5 feet from this thing – and has one pistol loaded. He is taking the bloody shot - and not using a melee weapon, so - yay - no need for reflex save!

At this time – Brett is also spending some more Grit points to do some much needed extra damage – if he can – along with some other stuff he is already doing.

So – Brett is firing a ranged weapon at a prone target – though he is 5 feet away. He shall take a 5 foot step back – he will eat all the penalties – and we’ll see what happens when he fires his pistol!

To hit
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 - +1 from Point blank, +1 from Arsinian, +1 Brett’s special power, -4 for enemy being prone – minus 2 for feat.

Damage – if hit
1d6 + 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (4) + (1) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 12

Touch attack is only a "7" - so Brett just hit and did damage for 12 more points. Who's next?

Ah – that would be Ryul – he is now charging up to hit the spider with his short swords!

But first – he needs his stupid Reflex Save –
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Attack 1
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

IF he hits
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Attack 2
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

IF he hits
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

With the spider being Prone - it loses -4 to AC and its Dexterity bonus - so - Ryul needs a 16 to hit.

Okay - Ryul is getting a promotion! Meanwhile - Ariarh is now up - and I have to go back to work - be home in several hours... Hope to see some good damage done!

On the plus side - you feel you've almost chipped it down to half... No, no - I kid, I kid... Anyone with monster lore could tell you how much it has left as a free action - or, in this case - bardic knowledge - again - as a free action.

Dire attempts to wheedle around behind the spider if its possible in order to flank the creature between either Arsinian or Brett. If it doesn't look like it will happen he'll just go and attack

Reflex + 6 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

So Dire won't really help out in this fight :P

Trying to get in to attact the spider, Dire yells out,"DAMN!" One of those hairs got me!" He almost immediately develops a flop sweat and turns ashen his insides feeling like they want to come out and play.

Even though he can't attack he'll still try to get around to provide a flanking bonus if possible.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Ariarh takes a 5" step backwards and holds action.

The earth elemental she cast (last round) has appeared.

The air elementals move around the prone spider -- flanking each other. The earth elemental is directed to attack the spider.

Air Elemental 3:

Slam Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8

Air Elemental 4:

Slam Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Earth Elemental 1:

Slam Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 1 = 26 (earth mastery: +1 bonus to attack and damage if elemental and foe are both touching the ground)
Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8

Hearing Dire call out, she quickly asks, "Dire, how badly are you hurt? Don't try anything rash, please!"

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Dire, Anuk-su is flanking with Arsinian so you would be useful flanking with Brett. :)

think you get a fort save to resist the poison.

also, arsinian doesn't have bardc knowledge or any knowledges. so if the others have it it may work.

Dire's Fort Save +8 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Le sigh

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

I believe we have now collectively managed 98 hp of damage on the spider out of a possible 115 hp.

But playing along with GM, Knowledge Nature on the number of HP a Giant Tarantula Spider (Gargantuan size) has: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Mak Morn drops his shield – wades in – and takes a two handed swing with his battleaxe!

But first – he must make a reflex save!

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 – only a natural 20 can succeed –

His to hit –
1d20 + 9 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 4 + 2 = 32 compliments of it being prone, and Arsinian’s blessing – and flanking, too.

IF he hits –
1d10 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9

Great shot - too bad he didn't succeed and was struck by the barbs - Nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 4 rounds.

Erdane Winthrope wrote:

Dire's Fort Save +8 1d20+8

Dire - regrettably- you are Nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 3 rounds.

Henry Ironhorse takes a shot!

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Penalty’s for prone vs. range – added bonuses via Arsininian’s song and flanking.

IF he hits –
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

The spider is VERY unhappy – it will begin by attacking … Brett; though, luckily – from a prone position.

Assuming it hits Brett – he will need to make a Fortitude Save of 24 to avoid being Poisoned by its fangs and venom; as opposed to the nausea from its barbs.

First – it shall Bite Brett – at a minus 4.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

IF he hits –
3d6 + 18 ⇒ (3, 2, 4) + 18 = 27.

Assuming Brett is poisoned – his Fortitude Save –
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

It is using its second attack – a Range Touch Attack against Ariarh the Druid commanding the elementals. It suffers a minus 4 – but the attack is Touch only – which means it only needs to hit 10 + Ariarh’s Dexterity bonus.

If it hits Ariarh – she needs to make Fortitude Save of 22 – or be Nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 4 rounds.

Barb attack vs. Ariarh –
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

IF it hits – Ariarh only needs to roll her Fortitude Save – failure equals nausea.

As a free action - the spider hisses in rage - green, bubbling foam dribbling from its foul maw!

In response to Ariarh’s Knowledge Nature check –

1. You have done a lot more then 98 damage – after Ironhorse – you guestimate – over 135 HP.

2. Your theory on the spider is probable – but – you have heard tales of spiders like this who’s relative health can swell as high as 150 HP. Naturally – this assumes the spider has not bothered to take any class levels – nor has it had any unknown advantages or bonuses you don’t know of… Still – you think it is nearly finished!

It has to be!

FYI – Dior has not responded in any way to your calling him.

Arsinian - you're up!

- FYI - Brett has fired his only shot at the spider - he is out of ammo for next round and must either reload - or do something rash.

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

So, the spider missed Ry! No fort save required and no nausea. Well since Ironhorse hadn't taken his action when Ry was calculating/guestimating and being she is only a druid and not a seer, she is happy to now know they have hurt the big spider some more! ;)

Ariarh Kane wrote:

Well - it took Ariarh so long to figure out what was going on - what with all the math and no abacus - by the time she realized what was what - Ironhorse had ALREADY made his shot - and her read on the damage was spot on!

Female Aasimar Druid 7 (Noble)

Speaking to her companions, visibly relieved the spider's barbs missed her, but watchful of its frothing maw, "It would seem we have dealt quite a bit of damage to this fell creature. Friends, let us finish it quickly! I need to get up to Dior and get him down! There is other work to be done, here."

Attempting to make a show of force against the spider, Dire raises his swords feebly but even this action causes his head to swim and his stomach to churl. He realizes quickly he won't be any threat and staggers back from the spider 20 feet or so, hopefully out of harms way until the nausea passes.

M Human Bard (arcane duelist) 1

i thought that you said we get a fort save to resist the poison for the nauseated effect, if we fail the reflex save...

anyway

You do have to make a Fortitude save - DC is 22 - Dire rolled a total of 10.

Sadly yes - he is still prone - though Arsinian would have otherwise smacked this guy down!

Top of the Round -

Brett is frantically reloading - not wanting to tangle with this thing with a sword!

Ryul shall then attempt to attack -

Ryul is now charging up to hit the spider with his short swords!

But first – he needs his stupid Reflex Save –
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Attack 1
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Attack 2
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

IF he hits
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Ryul fails his save - and is Nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 2 rounds.

Anuk-su remains flanking - cursing the spider in Draconic!

Ariarh - your move!
