I will let you ret-con that decision.
If you recall - the spider is 50 feet off the ground - and 60 feet away from you.
Ariarh's range for that spell is 25 feet +5 feet every 2 levels (40 feet). She cannot hit the creature, and would know it - even if she was standing directly under it - which she couldn't because of the stalagmites.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

dang, mis-read that, thought it was +5/level, not +5/2 levels. my bad, thanks.
Anyway, instead she'll Produce FLame and throw the touch attack:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
for 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

WAIT! You really want to use a flame spell on a creature that is surrounded by extremely flamable spider web? I mean - normally that would be cool - but Dior is caught right in the web! He'd go up in a poof - and I know Ariarh wouldn't want that...
One more try for the ret-con?

You believe it is a highly poisonous spider - some form of giant (Technically - Gargantuan) tarantula - if your theory is correct - you're in big trouble!
You also are afraid that the spider may be able to fling poisonous barbs form its body at you - which means you may be in range.
Finally - I literally don't understand what you mean when you wrote "SNA 3 burning her use of Burst of Nettles" - she wouldn't have used a spell that she can't use if she's not in range - which she isn't - and anyway - what is SNA 3? What did you burn? I actually just don't understand what you are talking about.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

oh man, the edit didn't go through
SHe spends the prepared spell Burst of Nettles to spontaniously cast Summon Nature Ally III to summon 1d3 (3) small AIr elementals between herself and the spider, but they won't appear until after the spider has taken its turn.
she also lets the party know that it can shoot poison barbs.

Damn, excellent choice! Those Air Elementals should give the spider a run for it's money - of course - correct me if I'm wrong - Air Elementals are especially susceptible to poisons, am I right?
Oh wait - just checked the rules - and it says (I quote):
Elementals are immune to Bleed, Paralysis, Sleep, Stunning and Poison - except if the poisoner happens to be a Gargantuan Spider type creature - in which case Elementals suffer double the effects of all poisons, and gain no saving throws for them!
Wow! Who knew?
;)
Sorry - it's late - I am having a damn hard time sleeping - just tossing and turning for some reason and am a little silly now - anyhow... When you mention the notation that the creature can use poison barbs - at range - well... then it is a very good thing that the people who are on full defense took that action!

Dain GM |

Well – the spider is attacking – it is going to remain in its web – confident that you are not able to hit it – and it is preferring to chuck barbs at you. For now – only two of you were able to do anything remotely constructive to it – namely – shoot arrows (or at least – try to shoot arrows…). Even though Ariarh is casting that won’t make a formal difference to the spider until next round – and Arsinian has not had a chance to do anything to warrant the spider’s attention – yet.
Therefore – it is attacking both Dire – and Ironhorse.
For the sake of speed I shall tell you that this creature is using poison barbs – they are a Ranged Touch Attack.
If you are hit – you must make a Fortitude Save – DC 22 – or be nauseated for 1d6 Rounds. I should note – the range increment on these things is 20 feet (I normally don’t tell that detail – but – to make this combat a wee bit simpler) – this means that sense the creature is 50 feet of the ground and 60 feet away from you - you are 85 Feet away for purposes of Range Increment (thank goodness for MapTools to figure that out!)
The creature takes a 5 foot step[/oo] (now only 80 feet away – if anyone wants to know for range – although, to be fair, it’s body alone takes up a 20x20 “Cube” at this size – for purposes of spells – but it’s “front” is still 80 feet away). Therefore the creature has a -6 penalty to hit.
So…
Attack against Ironhorse –
1d20 + 8 - 6 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 6 = 4
IF Dire is hit – and fails his Fortitude Roll of DC 22 – he is [ooc]Nauseated – 1d6 ⇒ 1 rounds.
Second attack against Dire for even attempting to take a shot at it!
1d20 + 3 - 6 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 6 = 16
IF Ironhorse is hit – and fails his Fortitude Roll of DC 22 – he is Nauseated – 1d6 ⇒ 5 rounds.
NOTE: Ironhorse has a Dex of 17 – but he only is wearing Studded Leather – not that it matters against Touch Attacks, however.
Ah! It seems Ironhorse has not been hit - thank goodness for him! Dire - I need you to make a Fortitude roll of 22 - or be Nauseated for 5 rounds

It is now the top of the round - when do the "Summon Elementals" appear? Now - or on Ariarh's formal Initiative - also - Kae - as you summoned them - would you do the honors of attacking with them also?
And - just to speed this up - the Spider's AC is 22.

If there is any space then the elementals swarm Dior add attempt to rip him free of he webs

and I think Ry will ask the non-range attackers move off with her and hide in her obscuring mist moving 20 ft from those with bows, so they can step into the mist with a 5' step to gain partial concealment for a round. asking the others without ranged attacks to come into the mist for a 50% miss chance

Ry - the druid - would not do that - because her character is played by a girl who at least watched Spider Man - and knows the relative strength of spider webs are strong enough to hold the Incredible Hulk bound - provided the web was at least a quarter inch thick - which this seems to be.
Also - Dior is more "Cocooned" then anything - the web may be able to be cut - but not ripped apart - and she would know that.
Also - the spider has sort of left Dior hanging - and is formally ten feet from him.
However - Ry will use a Free Action to announce that the Melee Range for this bruiser is 20 feet; and anyone attempting to engage it in melee (really - step within 20 feet of its body) has to make a Reflex Save to avoid hitting the barbs jutting from its body.
However - the elementals are free to attack the spider, if they wish - and Ariarh will cast Obscuring Mist on her turn; as suggested.

Brett Rowan |

Brett is using both pistols at this time –
Brett lifts his pistols and fires them both in the cavern – he knows it is loud – but he is worried for Dior and acting rashly – as he hates spiders!
He is now using some modest powers to hit this creature – hopefully – he shall succeed! Currently he is moving up 20 feet and firing – and using a Grit Point to extend his range increment for a range touch attack – he is also using an ability or two do some extra damage.
The following are Touch Attacks - and cost Brett some Grit!
Attack 1
1d20 + 9 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 2 - 4 = 17
Damage – if hit
1d6 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 4 + (3) = 12
Attack 2

Of COURSE you want to run away - but - you can't leave Dior to be manhandled and eaten! Besides - those Elementals may gain some bonuses in a moment - they do go AFTER Anuk-su - which reminds me...
Here is what else happens before the elementals...

Anuk-su Seti |

Anuk-su is in Dragon Form – she is acting recklessly to help her friend Dior. She is no fool – well debatably) and assumes a spider is immune to most poisons – so she is actually going to try to attack it – with her claws! She has made double move so she is theoretically able to provide flanking with the elementals (when they pop in – knowing Ariarh’s plan). Her size modifier gives her huge bonus’s to hit – but you all know – even if she hits – she will be lucky to do only 1 point of damage, at best!
You all deduce – though she may love Dior and is a loyal friend to Ariarh – this chick’s nuts!
She must first make a Reflex Save of 22 to avoid the barbs – then she can attack, if she avoids the barbs.
Anuk-su’s Reflex Save in Dragon Form –
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Her Pounce attack – vs. this creature (note – assuming anything hits – all it does is 1 damage).
Bite –
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Claw –
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Claw –
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Dain GM |

Theoretically - two of your guys hit!
But - I will need them all to make Reflex Saves of 22 before they are able to - oh wait that doesn't matter - because they can't be poisoned!
Therefore - they don't need no stinking save - and are able to make their two attacks - with Anuk-su Flanking - and do a total of 9 more damage!

Dain GM |

Aright – now the spider is really pissed! But – it is also not thinking clearly. Brett has done the most damage to it – so it is firing a poisoned barb at Brett. If it hits Brett – Brett must make a Fortitude Save or be Nauseated.
It intends to do the following (and shall roll the following) – but – before it can do so – it is now formally using a Ranged Attack in Melee – and, it does not have Combat Reflexes. Therefore – all three Elementals – as well as Anuk-su – are free to attack it again.
Remember – the elementals do not have to make a save verses poison – and are still flanking with Anuk-su (and – for connivance sake – each other).
Spider Attacks Brett! Note – I had read this wrong before – the spider has only a +4 to hit at range – but it is a “Touch Attack!” and it cannot do this more then onc a round.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 – to see if it can “Touch Brett” with the barb.
If so – Brett must make a Fortitude Save of 22 – or be nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 2 rounds.
Remember: though this all happens – now matter what the results - the elementals and Anuk-su go first, as this thing doesn't have "Combat Reflexes"!
Oh my God - this missed Brett. Anuk-su remains holding action - Elementals - do your thing!

Brett is dropping his pistols as a free action – raising his primed musket as a standard action – firing at the creature as an attack action! He is – however – using Deadly Aim.

Brett is now out of ammo – and is frantically reloading after this.

Ariarh Kane |

Thanks to Kae and the GM for running Ariarh in my absence. Appreciate the help. I shall be back on the boards and posting from later tonight my time. :) Can someone give me a quick rundown of which spells she has used/burned? I know Burst of Nettles is gone in lieu of SNA III and also Obscuring Mist. Any others I may have missed?

waiph |

still want me to post this round? or you got it covered, Ry?
those are the only spells you used, and you should save spider climb so we can save dior.
I was gonna ask if Call Lightning would work, cause that's the only offensive spell you hae right now that isn't fire based, cause that would burn the webs and hurt dior. the elementals wouldn't be able to pull him free, so burning down the web isn't much of an option...

Arsinian Wells |

hey so i jsut realized that Arsinian shooting this spider is just about pointless, can i ret-con his action so he instead starts a bardic performance?
Inspire Courage gives +1 to attack and damage, so it may change some of the outcomes of the round, and add a few points of damage...
if not then he can start it at the end of next round, i know i missed that calculation, but wanted to ask at least.

Ariarh Kane |

The spell is Spider Climb, Communal which if I have read the rules correctly, allows up to 6 people (touched) 10 min intervals each ... instead of 1 person touched 10mins/level (i.e. 60mins in this case). I can post from this round ... I'm home currently, so I'm good to go. I have a question though, can we not give the air elementals swords to cut down/hack at the webbing (they have weapon finesse as a feat)? I cannot see why we cannot direct them to do that or at least one of the elementals whilst the other two are fighting the gargantuan spider. Ariarh speaks Auran and so she can instruct them not to get the swords anywhere near Dior and hurt him .... Plus, Ariarh has the ability to wildshape into a small elemental herself and she has wildshape 2/day at this level.

Ka'etil Malas'rae |

having the elementals use a weapon seems like a good idea, can let Dior loose then hit him with produce flame, and toss a flame sphere at it if it goes to ground.
now i;m not sure if Ry gets the elementa's immunities, so she'd have to toss the save to avoid poison...
and worst case, save communal spider climb adn we can jsut walk up later, or use it, and we can walk up now and attack depending on the terrain, but we'd need to see if there is any way to climb up there...

Ariarh Kane |

Is anyone close enough to one of the air elementals to hand them a weapon -- sword, rapier etc? I'm not sure of everyone's current positions and weapons on their person. I will go back and read through the entries again. If Ry transforms into a small air elemental, this is what she gets: If the form you take is that of a Small air elemental, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Dexterity and a +2 natural armor bonus. You also gain fly 60 feet (perfect), darkvision 60 feet (which she already has), and the ability to create a whirlwind. So you may be right, she will not have poison immunity. She could transform into a giant spider ... under SNA II.. let me think on it, will post up something soon!

Ariarh Kane |

Ariarh will start casting again, dropping her burning gaze spell (level 2) for Summon Nature's Ally II. The new air elemental will not appear until end of this round just before Ry's turn next round.
The current three air elementals flanking with Anuk-su slam attack the gargantuan spider again,
Air Elemental 1:
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Air Elemental 2:
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Air Elemental 3:
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
[note: Ry has augment summoning feat, so the damage Kae put up for Ry's elementals previously goes up by +2 for each successful hit.]

I am adjusting the damage retro-actively then - however - the AC is 22 - and, also - the reach for the spider is 20 feet. As a Druid - you learned this Knowledge earlier - and shared with the party as a free action - but, technically it was me RPing for you - so - now you have it :)

Okay - now the spider is attacking. He's not happy - so he's attacking two of the air elementals on him now -
This is the first time you see the creature use a melee attack... Hmm - could be interesting... it can do this twice -
Attack against 1
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
IF he hits -
3d6 + 18 ⇒ (2, 3, 5) + 18 = 28
Attack against Air Elemental 2
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
IF he hits
3d6 + 18 ⇒ (1, 5, 4) + 18 = 28
Luckily - the air elementals cannot be poisoned too - please let me know if they went "poof".
Hmm... I have a hunch they may have.
Anyway - the spider turns and looks at you all with a
"Alright - I'm done screwing around - let's do this! kind of look - which is an amazingly impressive range of communication from scintillating eyes.
